I would like to experience the real local indigenous culture of North Dakota, Can somebody give me advice?

2m ago

So context, I recently lived like a local in the Navajo Reservation with the members of the Diné tribe. I got to see the real side of what life on the reservation is like, the good (the nature, fresh air, beautiful cultural sites), the bad (rampant alcoholism, drugs, danger, lawlessness) and ugly (the political divide, in-tribe fighting, spiritual threats, cultural extinction, the impacts of colonization, the long walk, the trauma from Indian schools). I ate, slept, did chores and learnt with them. I laughed at their cultural jokes, cried with them with their traumatic pasts (a grandma who went through the Indian school system shared their story with me) and celebrated Thanks giving with th...

Small superhero story

Some call me a mad woman. Some call me crazy. Some call me the most insane lady ever. But no one can call me unintelligent. Hi, my name is Jury Square but most know me as “ahem” Sr. Intergalactic. The name comes from my many many achievements in advancing humanity's domination in space. Not to boast but some of those very achievements are building sustainable colonies on every planet in our solar system, making space travel cheap enough even for the poorest of people in our society to go, and my personal favorite, merging our sun with another star to prolong its life span. I like that one since the math for it is about a 1000 pages long. But anyway, enough about me. I'm som...

Trying to find peace

6m ago

My wife 32f wants a divorce from me 32m after 12 years together, 7 married. She told me last Tuesday. So much of our relationship was predicated upon a dynamic that no longer works for her, and as I have grown in the last week, I realize no longer works for me. She has been going through a grief journey, and I was not able to be there for her during this time in the way that she needed me to be. She found someone linked to her grief that was able to help her find answers that she has been seeking since she was a child. It felt like she turned away from me, and I was scared, unable to regulate myself. I came out sideways at her, made her feel shame, so she withdrew. If anything, this only a...

Am I overreacting???

I (M20) and my girlfriend (F21). My girlfriend has spoke to me about a co worker of hers that has been bugging her. This place is a grocery store and her work place is a different company but a booth where no where to walk away. This co worker is constantly trying to hit on her and even going to a back room where she was going knowing she was headed there to talk to her. She ignores him. I’ve told her several times to tell him off or tell the store mangers. She refused and told me to talk to him. So I headed there seen the guy and asked for 2 minutes of his time outside. In the conversation I referred to her as my “sister” to not make it odd that her boyfriend is there. Now my girlfrie...

Random shoe advices

11m ago

I see a lot of posts here from new climbers and I see a lot of very similar questions. I thought it would be helpful to layout a few basic things for people to look over before they post for help. -the grade you climb doesn't have anything to do, at all, with what shoe you should buy. Perhaps you can say a brand new climber should avoid more expensive pairs, but it's mainly because of cost and the risk of maybe not sticking with climbing, and the fact that aggressive shoes can be much easier to wear out with poor footwork. I'd recommend the same shoe to a v4 climber that I recommend a v11 if said shoe is comfortable and enjoyable to climb in for both climbers -Flat shoes ar...

Best Dream In A Long Time

12m ago

Took a nap today cause I was up much earlier than usual and anxious driving a big moving truck with car tow attached so that anxiety for an hour or so really tuckered me out. Plus, you were probably asleep as well and I was like, maybe I'll sleep a tad too. I've only had three dreams about you the whole time I've known you. First was when you weren't talking to me and I was so sad and missed you so much and had no idea why you stopped speaking to me at that time. The dream was me at some place (idk what yours looks like so I'm sure my brain made something up lol) and I was talking to what I think my brain probably also made up as to what your sister looked like...

The Beginning of the Ash stories Explained

14m ago

Many of you haven’t read my Ash stories, especially from the beginning, book 1 which is comprised of 50 chapters. I’ve put this together as an introduction to give anyone a sense what made this woman who was born between 12 and 15,000 years ago. Yes it’s fiction but has a little bit of what we know of our ancestors woven between the lines. Cave paintings of humans warring against each other date back 12,000 years. The earliest archeological evidence we have of humans at war dates back 10,500 years ago. About the same time the Aquarian society was taking over and cities being formed. I point this out only because it was physical destruction that brought Ash into being formed. Sm...

So I just got back from Japan and I want to vent about my experience being out “in the wild” in kimono. Sorry this is a bit of a vent/request for confidence boosting 🙈 One of the things I really wanted to do while I was there was go out to one of the gardens we were visiting wearing kimono. I had just picked up the denim kimono I ordered from Kurashiki Kimono Komachi which is my first custom ordered kimono and was excited to wear it out and take pictures at Korakuen in Okayama. My friend I was traveling with was waiting for me to finish getting dressed so we could check out of our hotel, and I knew I needed to change the position of my koshihimo because my ohashori was too long and...

Cold Vegetable storage

15m ago

So I've been getting into food preservation over the last 5 years. So far so good. But.. there are some things that just don't store very well. Because I don't really have a cold dark room like a root cellar. I do have an unfinished part of my basement. So I put things in there like onions. But it's not ideal. It's more like about 60 degrees in there. A few degrees cooler in the winter and a few degrees warmer in the summer. What do you all do for a substitute root cellar? The main things I have trouble storing are potatoes, onions, garlic, and carrots.

Finally joining after decades of unprotected high risk behavior ;)

After flying low for decades (last ticket was over 2 years ago), I finally decided to go beyond Waze and my aging eyesight this Cyber Monday. Just picked up a factory certified Uniden R8, intending to have Best Buy use it with the [Highway Radar](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.highwayradar.app&hl=en_US) app (looks like the Uniden R/TACH app is universally poor across platforms). Also ordered the Hardwire Kit for R-Series & DFR-Series in Used - Like New condition from Amazon Resale. Gonna have Best Buy install them as I'm not handy at all. Was originally going to go with a Valentine V1 Gen 2, but the lack of discounts and 0% interest BNPL really turned...
