Really impressed by how friendly and warm people in Philly have been.

3h ago

Hey all. So I recently moved from Chicago to Philly, and I wasn't fully knowing what to expect at first. Similar to Chicago, there were mixed reviews on the friendliness of people in Philly, but I gotta say I've been pleasantly impressed. Some people online said that both Philly and Chicago are unfriendly, and some said that both are friendly.  If I'm being totally real, I don't find there to be THAT big of a difference between the people in Philly vs Chicago. It's similar in that no BS type of way where locals will tell you what you need to hear straight, but also are generally warm and helpful as long as you're a kind person. Personally, I would say on aver...

Building Earthlingz! a free app to help cleanup crews organize and track their impact

3h ago

Hey all. I'm a former science teacher turned software engineer in Portland. Spent the last year building Earthlingz. It's a free nonprofit app for people who organize environmental cleanups, either solo or with a crew. When I was teaching, I'd take my students out to pick up trash and pull invasive scotch broom from the school grounds. It got me thinking about what actually creates lifelong environmental stewards. So I dug into the research. The answer wasn't guilt or climate facts. It was community. So I built everything around that. Crews with shared stats and leaderboards. A collaborative map of everywhere you've cleaned together. Tools to organize events and...

**Spoiler Alert** Red John The Mentalist - The reveal was not as bad as I always thought

3h ago

So I always thought that Red John guy was so bad right. Like it was disappointing but this was when I watched the show when I was much younger. I am re-watching the mentalist again the second time and Red John was just revealed and Jane just killed him, and now that I think about it, it kind of makes sense. The thing is that people who are pure evil are usually in the background, the Blake Association was possible by him going after and helping every troubled cop and judge (and God sure knows how many of those there are). He built it one people then another and the shrouded the whole thing in mystery and secrecy making it seem like some big-wigs were involved and were pulling the strings but...

In America I’m sick of the anti immigration people. There just pathetic.

3h ago

As a 28 year old man. I remember when I was in middle school. I was 12 years old when Barack Obama became the first African American president of the United States. Even though I was only 12. I was always fascinated by politics since I was 8 years old. My perents were very strong democrats. And I remember them always complaining about George W Bush when he was president. And about the Iraq war. And when Obama got elected in 2008. America was immersed in the financial crisis. It was a moment I remember everyone felt very patriotic. And felt so blessed to be Americans. Because in 1964 that’s when the Civil rights act was signed. It was a big big milestone. To imagine just 40+years earlier. W...

Why a plant-based diet actually hits HARDER than you think (Rich Roll x Simon Hill breakdown)

3h ago

Most people think that eating a plant-based diet means sacrificing taste, strength, or convenience, that it’s just for ultra-athletes, yoga influencers, or people who love kale excessively. But what if all the best science says otherwise? Just listened to Simon Hill on the Rich Roll Podcast, and it’s honestly one of the clearest, most evidence-backed cases for a plant-based lifestyle out there. Hill isn’t just pushing vibes; he's a nutritionist with a master's in physiology using hard science. This post pulls together the key takeaways from that episode and pairs them with other major studies and expert insights. No fluff. Just powerful points that make this shift hard to ig...

parking tips for the ultimate acoustic rock show at dingbatz (clifton nj 01/15)

3h ago

hey everyone, figured i'd share some parking tips for the ultimate acoustic rock show on thursday, 01/15. parking near dingbatz (620 van houten ave) can honestly be a real headache if you don't plan ahead, so hopefully this helps someone out. the show starts right at 7:00 pm on a weekday night, which means the route 3 and route 46 traffic from the north jersey commute is going to be brutal leading up to showtime. honestly the easiest thing to do is use an app like Prked. people who live right next to dingbatz rent out their private driveways for shows, and you can book a guaranteed spot in advance. it's usually way cheaper than you'd expect for a guaranteed spo...

Buying aliexpress parts

3h ago

Hey guys, so, I’ve been looking for some parts for my 335i, especially those two: aluminum Charge pipe (BOV version)and aluminum turbo outlet I looked at VTT and VRSF. Then some aliexpress pages selling those parts popped up on my google shopping, out of curiosity I’ve looked. The pics and a lot of detail looks the same as the “famous” sites like VRSF. So, my question is: are the exact same parts sold by aliexpress’s sellers and VRSF? I ask that cause the price difference is huge, I don’t mind paying more for good parts, but I **** to pay more just cause a big brand is selling it

AITA for setting house rules and not wanting to add my roommate to the lease?

3h ago

I honestly don’t know if I’m being an ******* or if this is just what happens when you live with someone new. I let a roommate move in and it’s been literally less than a week. The lease is in my name only. Her mom asked if I would add her to the lease and I said no because we hadn’t even lived together yet and I wanted to see if we got along. At the time that felt reasonable. Now I’m even more sure. There have already been a bunch of issues and none of them are huge on their own but together it’s a lot. She uses my dishes and doesn’t wash them. Even just a spoon. I said I wasn’t super strict about cleaning but I didn’t mean I wanted to clean up after someone else all the...

Do you feel closer to your partners siblings, or your siblings partners?

3h ago

I (34F) grew up with a younger (28M) and older (37M) brother. I never had sisters so I was really excited when I’d get some “in law” sisters once we all got married. My older brother got married first, 8 years ago and I adore his wife (37F) who we’ll call Jess. She helped encourage me and support me through the first steps in my career since we have the same job and I’ve always felt welcome and that there’s mutual respect. I think it’s important to note that we lived in the same metropolitan area so I got to see her a lot more. There was a pretty big cultural difference in our upbringings but it didn’t cause any hurdles at all. Jess was even my MOH for my wedding- I really ...

Parking tips for Arin Ray - Blue Note Los Angeles (Los Angeles 01/14)

3h ago

hey everyone, figured i'd share some parking tips for the arin ray show at blue note on friday, 01/14. that part of hollywood, right on sunset and ivar, is seriously rough for parking and traffic, especially on a friday night. you definitely want a plan before you get anywhere near the venue. honestly the easiest thing i've found for shows at blue note los angeles is an app called prked. you can rent someone's private driveway or garage right next door to the club. it's usually way cheaper than the big public lots and you get to completely skip the crazy traffic jam of everyone trying to get into and out of the same garages. you just park in your reserved spot ...

New to machine embroidery, which machine should I get?

3h ago

I want to level up in plushie making and since my birthday is coming up soon, I suggested to my parents that I want an embroidery/sewing machine. I'm new to machine sewing (last time I touched a sewing machine was like 7 years ago) and embroidery, I don't have big demands(a 10x10 cm working area is more than enough; a colored touchscreen would be great, though not required; an automatic thread cutter, preferably; and an USB/flash drive port) and I don't have that massive of a budget. I'm leaning towards Brother since they have a lot of options and are recommend by many makers, I like the Innov-is m270 since it seems to have everything I need and more, but it's prett...

Would a shelf-restocking robot actually help grocery stores? Looking for real-world feedback

3h ago

Hey everyone, I’m a mechanical engineer exploring potential startup ideas in robotics. My (to-be) cofounder and I have been discussing a concept, and before going any further, I want to sanity-check whether this is a real problem or just an engineer’s fantasy. The idea: A mobile robot designed specifically for grocery stores that can: Receive an input that a shelf/SKU needs restocking Navigate to the correct aisle and shelf Bring the correct SKU and restock it Do a full restocking pass overnight for empty or low shelves Possible additional functions: Floor cleaning (basic sweeping/mopping) Checking for expired items or items close to expiration Shelf scanning for misplaced or ...

Thoughts on 4 day NYC itinerary

3h ago

Context: visiting NYC Weds through Monday (late January). Will be my third time in the city (prior visits have been pretty short) and my husband's first, so we are planning the "tourist circuit." We travel frequently and are used to cities, public transportation, walking a lot, and packed itineraries. We are flexible on itineraries, too, but like to have an outline and adjust it as we go. Staying in Midtown. We love museums, history, exploring, and eating. Not big shoppers. Not into clubs/nightlife but we love a good neighborhood pub or a fun cocktail bar. We love a view from the top... he wants to go to the top of the Empire State Building and I would rather do Top of the Roc...

Gūrunezumi Fankids (Part 2)

3h ago

Ken’s appearance: He looks exactly like Sidney with having her tanned skin and her hair, but he has Erma’s eyes and no rat features. He wears fingerless gloves and a black shirt with a red flame in the middle, torn jean pants and orange sneakers.  Ken’s personality: He is very energetic, positive, fast, wild, and intelligent. He talks a lot as he is very expressive. He does worry about having too much energy that it can be annoying and would be a dangerous burnout, so he would often make himself chamomile tea. Nobody minds about his energetic nature as it makes him who he is, but he would always put the needs of others before him. Ken’s relationship with others; Erma: Ken would ...

parking tips for william elloitt whitmore w/ benny sidelinger at tractor tavern (seattle 01/14)

3h ago

hey folks, figured i'd share some parking tips for the william elloitt whitmore show on tuesday, 01/14. parking in ballard is honestly a nightmare even on a quiet night, and since the tractor tavern doesn't have an on-site lot, everyone is fighting for the same few spots on ballard ave nw and the side streets. first, and this is the real insider move, check out prked. this is an app for renting private spots, like someone's driveway or garage, that you won't find on any of the regular parking maps. if you can snag a spot on there that's right next to the tavern, it'll be way cheaper than a garage and you skip all the last-minute circling for street pa...

2 months ago, I launched my second iOS App

3h ago

Hey everyone 👋 I wanted to share a small milestone from a side project **I launched about 2 months ago: Skyjo – Scorekeeper**, a simple iOS app to track scores for the card game Skyjo. Here’s where things stand so far (see screenshot): * \~50k impressions * 3.5k product page views * 6.67% conversion rate * 2.46k downloads * $502 in revenue * \~$4.02 per paying user My initial goal for the first year wasn’t to “make it big”, but simply to cover the Apple Developer Program and Astro costs. Seeing this after 2 months feels very motivating. Beyond the numbers, I’ve learned *a lot* along the way: * ASO matters more than I expected * Simple, niche apps can find an audience ...

Inspired by Cult of The Lamb, I Made a Game Where You Start a Cult and Go on Crusades with a Vegan Hippie Deathsquad

3h ago

Hi guys! I'm a big cult of the lamb fan, and I liked the fact that it broke up the cult management with the action dungeon crawl gameplay. I decided to add this same feature to my game CultGame, where an action called "Crusade" is now available, which basically lets you send a squad of your cultists somewhere to raise **** by burglarizing towns, killing people, preaching to people, or trying to ask people out on dates. It's positively silly and edgelord-y, and it's directly inspired by Cult of The Lamb. The video is pretty silly too! I hope you enjoy <3 You can wishlist CultGame on steam today! parking tips for ayeoo romero at the grand (boston 01/14)

3h ago

ayeoo romero at the grand is going to be insane, but let's be real, the seaport is a total nightmare for parking, especially when a massive event kicks off at 10:00 pm. boston traffic is honestly terrible, like globally ranked awful, and even late at night you can get stuck trying to navigate the mess right around the venue. the average speed downtown is only 13 mph, so leave way earlier than you think you need to. my top tip, and this is how i skip the traffic lines and the insane garage prices, is to use the Prked app. seriously, it’s an app where you can rent driveways or private garage spots from people in the neighborhood. you can usually find something right next to t...
