Food Help

2h ago

My (25f) 6 month old kitten really only likes kibble, Churu chowder, and broth as far as food goes. But recently she's not been a fan of the chowder. Been trying to find more broth like foods and just looking for what y'all would recommend. In USA spayed, vet access.

Can you identify these condiments? Love them and want to buy/make for home cooking.

2h ago

Always loved getting Thai food at restaurants or takeout but of late, starting to make these at home to save some $$$ and also eat healthier. Most Thai places I've been in (West Coast of USA) offer a set of 3 or 4 condiments in these little containers on the side. I dont know what they are but MAN are they flavour bombs! Simply adore whatever is in here. I want to buy these for my own home cooking but dunno what to even call them. Please help? Included photos as a reference.

Feel stuck in toxic household

3h ago

I (23F) currently live with my OCD Asian parents and am doing my master's. I did my bachelor's out of state and moved back in state for my masters and thought I'd live at home to save money on rent. Along with school, I have 2 research positions with profs (I was getting ready to apply for PhD) and a part time job where I work \~17 hrs/week and I don't rIy make enough to rent on my own since most of my money goes towards tuition. I graduate this spring. My dad is paying for part of my masters as he was extremely uncomfortable with the idea of me taking a loan. I was going to take on a student loan to pay my own tuition (\~30k total), but he was going off about how if I ...

Every bouquet of roses was grown, cut, and packed by farm workers. Every box of chocolate started as cocoa beans that passed through multiple hands before landing on a store shelf.  If you’re trying to give something meaningful and not just add to the noise, it helps to know what you’re looking at. When you see the Fair Trade Certified label, it means the product was made under rigorous standards that cover:  * Fair wages and better market access for farmers and workers  * Safe working conditions, with systems for workers to raise concerns without retaliation  * A Community Development Fund that workers vote on and use for projects they choose (education, food programs, cash distri...

Why do the “elites“ sacrifice children? AMA

4h ago

I’ve been studying this phenomenon for 20 years, so I have quite a few insights that I can share regarding this topic. I’ve formatted this text in a question-and-answer format. If you have more questions, I will answer them in the comments section below. **Where does this practice come from?** It is well-known and accepted among historians and archaeologists that many ancient cultures sacrificed children ritualistically. There are even references to this in the Bible. However, what is disputed among historians is how widespread and common these practices were. For example, it is known that the Carthaginians sacrificed children on a large scale. They inherited this practice from their ...

am i denying my whiteness ? (1/4 filipino)

5h ago

***TL;DR:*** **i’m from USA, 1/4 filipino + mostly white. i didn’t grow up with much filipino culture because my dad left early. i’m not white passing and experienced a lot of bullying/racism growing up, and i’m often mistaken for east asian bc i’m pale. i feel like i’m “too asian” to be white, “too white” (and not culturally raised filipino enough) to feel filipino. i’ve tried to connect by educating myself on asian cultures, food + history, but my white family members say i’m “not asian enough” and accuse me of denying my whiteness. i also tend to connect more with east asian people bc of similarities in experiences and such, but i feel conflicted bc by all mea...

R/Parakeet

I have a serious question about mineral blocks. Please if you don't have nothing nice or kind and helpful to suggest...I don't need no rude snarky demeaning answers nor are they wanted!!! So I give mineral blocks and cuttle bones to all my American parakeets, my finches and my canaries... just as our vet , the and research I've done and my relatives told me. But since we live in Midwest USA, and we lost half our income in last 6 months , were still trying to find safe and affordable food, mineral blocks and cuttle bones for our birds... they were all adopted so none of our birds in the last few yrs will eat pellets...so we do the best quality of mixture of seed we ...

How to Become the MOST Attractive Version of Yourself: Science-Backed Strategies That Actually Work

5h ago

You know what's wild? Most people think being attractive is about having perfect genes or a killer jawline. But after falling into a rabbit hole of research, books, podcasts, psychology papers, and even talking to dating coaches, I realized we've been fed a load of BS. Attraction isn't just about looks. It's a combination of confidence, energy, how you carry yourself, and honestly, how much you actually like yourself. The science backs this up too. Studies show that people rated as "more attractive" often aren't conventionally hot, they just radiate something different. So here's what I learned about becoming the most magnetic version of yourself. Ste...

Is The American Dinner Too Much?

5h ago

\*\*cross posted\*\* Where I live the cost of groceries has become astronomical. I am sure it has everywhere. I've had to truly budget tightly when buying food for the first time. It has made me start being very intentional about what I am feeding my family. I keep trying to find the most nutrition with the least amount of food/cost. This has gotten me thinking about the traditional dinner. Do we really need to have such large meals? Do we even need to eat that late? I have kids from early elementary to high school and their nutrition is important to me but at what point are they really getting more than they need? It is no secret those of us in the USA are guilty of gluttony. My kids...

My husband’s negative attitude is driving me insane

6h ago

I don’t want to overload you with background information, but suffice it to say things are not going great objectively, but my husband’s attitude about it and general mood of anger and hopelessness is making it so much worse. We moved to where we are right now for a one year position I was offered where we had a free place to stay close by in a suburb we don’t like. That opportunity allowed us to afford my pregnancy and birth and have accommodations for parental leave. Because we aren’t paying rent or mortgage, my husband was able to start his private therapy practice. In the past, I have been able to get new positions pretty easily. Well the economy and my field tanked, and I was ...

Holbox Trip Report (2/6/20206 - 2/10/2026)

6h ago

A few weeks ago I created [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/holbox/comments/1qlb4qh/itinerary_review_request_please/) on Reddit asking for a bit of feedback on our proposed itinerary. As the community was so helpful, I thought I’d post a quick review of our trip in hopes it might help someone else… # Lodging We stayed at [Nomade Holbox](https://nomadeholbox.com). We were fortunate enough to get to stay in one of the Beachfront Treehouse units. After having visited Holbox, I now have a much better appreciation for the variety of accommodations and price points on the island. I suspect our cost (\~$500/night) was on the higher end of the scale, but it proved to be a very unforgettable...

First amigurumi - need tips on how to attach the head. Both pieces are sewn closed, no open areas.

6h ago

This is my first time attempting to crochet anything that’s not straight line single crochets, and despite this little dude not being perfect - I’m having a great time and I’m really proud of how he’s turning out. I’ve learned a lot for next time so hopefully we move forward on the next attempt. Now I’m really worried about attaching the head. Any tips or tricks? I’m scared I’m going to start off with him looking food and end up a bit wonky. This happened to me with the tail. It’s all a learning process so I’m okay with some imperfections, but I don’t want to screw up all this hard work on the most important step in sewing him together lol

Dog taking Cerenia & has little appetite. Picky eater or something more?

6h ago

Our 13 year old mixed-breed dog has always been a very picky eater and has a phobia of dishes. We adopted him from a shelter when he was about 2 years old, and he was very skinny. We started putting his food directly on the floor to get him to eat. He had been a stray when we got him, and we suspect he didn't have the best nutrition/eating environment before we got him. He circles his food, he eats very slowly, and he's very aware of where our other dogs are while he's eating. He's easily distracted by them and growls to protect his food. We feed him in a gated off area, and often cover the gates with blankets so he can't see them, BUT he still wanders around and b...
