AIO for wanting to stay at my apartment during the freeze?

2h ago

So this might be a little rant-ish with all the backstory, but I just feel like I’m at my wits end here. Background: for the past 10-15 years I (37m) had been dealing with a degenerating health issue, the cause of which was finally diagnosed and addressed last February (my cervical spine was seriously ******- partly congenital, partly just from life happening- don’t ignore your bodies, people). Prior to the surgery, it was to the point where I couldn’t even support my head when upright; the only relief I could get was sitting on a footstool and resting my head on the back of a chair. While this was going on, the unreasonable expectations of my employer were too much (I was taking off...

What is a reasonable ask for pain and suffering.

4h ago

Location: New York, USA Kind of policy: Homeowners Insurance company: Liberty Mutual Hi everyone, I’m currently in the middle of a property insurance claim, and I’m curious what is a reasonable ask when it comes to pain and suffering. For context, on morning of October 31st, I went to the house of my boyfriend’s parents (where he currently lives) in order to pick up an item before going in to work and one my way out to my car a stone paver on their front steps gave out from underneath me, causing me to fall down the remaining steps. This fall resulted in my breaking both my 2nd and 3rd metatarsals in my left foot along with a severe sprain on my right ankle. After going to orthope...

Stuck in the stone ages

My family and I moved to Tyler over 4 yrs ago from Dallas area(originally from Northern USA). I have all but met 1 friend, also from North USA. Everyone else that was born here(Tylerites) are so fair to me! Like, they will say hi friend, act friendly, and then want nothing to do with you because you are an outsider! I've talked to so many others that were not born here or even TX, and get the same story. Some have lived here over 10+ yrs and still have no friends and feel like an outsider! Now let's talk about all the businesses, including restaurants that have closed, and are closing we are one such business that doesn't involve food! I feel like y'all don't want a...

Snowtastrophe '26 announcements and resources and links. T-2 days.

4h ago

The snow and wintry mix is coming! It's been named Snowtastrophe, courtesy of u/kimiquat We kinda **** at megathreads so this isn't one, but there will be some resources and links to helpful threads and information. The snow is currently expected to begin at late Saturday night. Right now we're looking at like 12 inches of snow at minimum, with some wintry mix to come Sunday afternoon toward the end of the event. This will make a freaking mess of the roads in all likelihood because the temps will be solidly below freezing. Be safe, get any food you need now, and do not go out on Sunday night or Monday if you can help it at all. Remember those "don't part here du...

Heroes vs villains vs society

4h ago

Heroes and villains. I love the whole concept of superheroes and villains. I can sit for hours thinking about them. My favourite one is Spider-Man. There is just something about him that just scratches an itch in my brain. He is nice, he is human, you know? Not perfect, not some untouchable god who is only weak when he is around kryptonite. Spider-Man is just trying. But what makes me really think isn't the flashy capes and their strong will power; It's their morals, And to be honest morals are weird and totally aesthetic. Hear me out. A villain kills a civilian, everyone loses their mind, but when a hero kills a villain? applause, headlines, a key to the city. But aren’t they ...

Small Update 1/22/2026

So far so good, no detectable lag and all the systems are working.

👋 Welcome to r/Project_Market_1989

5h ago

Hey everyone, I’m the dev behind **Project\_Market\_1989**. I’ve always loved deep simulators with complex economies, so I’m building one that spans **7 global regions**: Europe, USA, Russia, China, Japan, UK, and Australia. The core hook: every region has thousands of **unique items** tailored to its local culture. You could pick up a haul of Bruschetta in Italy and flip it locally when the price spikes, or play the long game and ship it to Australia to sell at a massive premium. **What’s under the hood so far:** * **The Global Hustle:** Beyond just flipping items, you’ve got a massive **Recipe system**. Source low-cost ingredients and craft them into high-value bulk goods. * ...

33 [M4F] #NYC, NY - the quiet ties of winter storms

5h ago

As the city folds inward for a brutal winter storm coming—the sidewalks glazed with thick snow, breath briefly visible before vanishing, and the steady rattle of radiators keeping imperfect time—I find myself wanting to share these quieter days with someone. What bliss to chat during shared weathering events, waiting for the thaw to allow us to meet. I’m 6’2, an average build I’d say for my height, white passing with short facial hair, and a style that leans warm and understated; more wool and layers than spectacle. I’m a writer and academic based in NYC, working by day and drifting by night, often into a bar dim enough to forgive introspection, a museum wing where footsteps ec...

A thought about emulation, “playable”, and showing some gratitude

5h ago

I’ve been noticing something for a while now, and I feel like it’s worth saying. There’s a lot of ingratitude toward emulator developers, especially when a project is new. I remember very clearly how this went with Folium (Nintendo 3DS) at the beginning. Back then, many people were saying it was “unplayable”, “pointless”, or “impossible to improve”. (For context: I personally moved from Folium to Manic later on, mainly because I wanted an all-in-one solution and better overall performance, but that doesn’t change what Folium achieved.) Fast forward a bit, and Folium became much more stable and usable over time. That didn’t happen magically. It happened because a dev...

Best Plastic (and Magnetic) Microwave Covers 2026

6h ago

Hey all, If you are not familiar with us, we are from Requiremints (operating also the Mint99 platform) and we spend our time digging through specs and reviewing products so you don't have to. We recently reviewed 20+ microwave covers to find the ones that are actually convenient. Plastic covers are usually cheaper and lighter than glass, but here are a few things to consider before you buy: * **Check your ceiling** \- If you want a magnetic cover that stores inside the microwave, test your microwave ceiling with a fridge magnet first. Many stainless steel interiors are not magnetic. * **Height clearance** \- If you reheat tall bowls of soup, look for a "high dome" cover so...

Winter Storm Survival Guide

6h ago

This is a list of things I think people should think about when preparing for the upcomming winter storm in southern USA, or winter storms in general. This list covers the following subjects: Power outages, water, clothing, house damage, travel, wood fires, and hobo life. Please add any other suggestions you have. **Power outages:** * Keep all devices charged (including backup power banks and batteries). * Make sure you can find your flashlights. * If you use kerosine or other lamps, make sure to keep the area clear of flamable material and place them in locations where they won't be knocked over. Also be aware of CO2 poisoning. * Fill water containers with HOT water. It has high ther...
