Supermarket Packaging: A UK Consumer Insights Survey (Scottishness)

45m ago

Hi everyone, My name is George, and as part of my Marketing dissertation on FMCG packaging at the University of Stirling, I’m researching how consumers perceive Scottish branding. The study focuses on UK supermarket shoppers and involves viewing a small number of packaging visuals before answering a short set of questions. The research contributes to the wider academic literature on branding and consumer behaviour in Scotland and the UK. If you are based in the UK and have 5–10 minutes to spare, I would greatly appreciate your participation. Thank you in advance. The Toyman Threnody

54m ago

Swimming through air currents—passing over forests, lakes and grassland stretches—there came a feral pigeon. His iridescent head and neck feathers coruscating in the sunlight, his black-barred wings pumping steadily, the bird was a majestic sight to be certain, observed by none save a theoretical deity.    Behind his blood orange eyes, confusion held sway over a rudimentary brain. Something was interfering with the neurons, sending the bird’s magnetoreception askew. No longer could the pigeon sense Earth’s magnetic field, the invisible map of magnetic materials and electrical currents by which he navigated. Consequently, he found himself traveling ever deeper into unknown territo...

Five Stops, Three Scores!

1h ago

My teen needed to practice driving, so we hit several stores. Nothing at the “new” Publix, so we went to “our” Publix and SCORE! There were a few coins in the reject bin and a clad quarter teetering on top of the hopper. I scooped them up, took the obligatory “palm pic” and hustled out of the store. (I try to get in and out quickly to avoid any managerial stares.) Recognized a chewed up penny and two quarters, but there were a few weird/international coins, but needed to discern with some magnification. I swear I heard the silver “ting” when I pocketed them! Whuut!? Stopped by the Kroger and found a penny on the left shelf (beside the red handle/sifter). Hit the Walmart...

Got an ad for this game a week ago, and to my surprise I fell for the ad, mostly because I watched dashie play it a few years ago, and here I am a week later over 8-10 hrs into it, I know this is not the correct sub for this specific game but I want to know did I download the wrong one? Don’t get me wrong I’ve been loving this game but I have had to spend $5 for no ads and $5 for 0 delivery wait time but other then that love it! But I wanna know if maybe someone has played this one and this current subs app and let me know if there’s a huge difference

Preface: Most of CSU businesses are legacy (founded 20 to 30 years ago), small SaaS businesses serving a small subset of customers in a specific industry. Their SaaS is shows characteristics of high switching cost due to being highly embedded in customer workflows. Some workflows are mission critical like public transport, finance, healthcare etc. Many are have the regulatory compliance moat (especially for health). Many customers have been with them a long long time. Only very very few are true market leaders and serve sizable customers, those that come to mind is Trapeze, WideOrbit, Optimal Blue, Datamine, and A&W Software. Even then, they are mainly an oligopoly player alongside a...

[homemade] Italian sausage, lentils, orzo pasta and kale

13h ago

I don't know if this is already a thing, but I made this tonight. It's the third time in \~2 weeks. :) It's tasty and warm and satisfying - plus I'm unemployed right now and it's super cheap and easy to make. Feeds a family of 4 for under $10. I served it with some Pillsbury bread in a tube. \---------------------------------------------------- Put a large glug of oil in a dutch oven with 1 roughly chopped onion, 2 diced celery stalks, 1 diced small carrot. You can also skip the carrot and use a supermarket veggie stock if you are like my wife and don't like carrots. Cut 1 pound of Italian Sausage links and brown in the oil. Cook until onions are tr...

AITA for stop talking

14h ago

Me (f38) and my partner (m34) have been on holidays in his country for Christmas and New Year; I came back early January due to work, but he stayed until early February (he did go only with go flight, as the idea was then check a cheaper day date for return). We have a car we both use if needed, but it's for he's job as a delivery driver. Our car was having problems before holidays and when I was back I realised it wasn't working. I've been shopping on our usual store, as is 10 minutes walking distance, but even took bus once to go for specific products in another supermarket. Manage to have essentials before is arrival. Due to car not working, he couldn't work, so ...

Do Brits first think of the supermarket or the country when "Iceland" comes up in conversations?

14h ago

Iceland is a major UK supermarket chain specializing in frozen foods with 1000+ stores. It is also a small Scandinavian country - but I'm thinking of starting a popular campaign to rename the country (just like Turkey renamed itself to Turkiye) to improve tourism. It's been really frustrating trying to book a vacation to see the glaciers in Iceland, because my internet search results are polluted with Iceland supermarket hits. Iceland is so well-known that even where I live (Australia), when I tell people I'm planning to visit Iceland - they say, "what like the supermarket? Bring me back some fish fingers."

Butterflies Over Joplin

14h ago

May 22, 2011, started off as any other typical day in Joplin, Missouri. Churches were in service; students were in the process of graduating. Birds were chirping. Everything was in a state of peace. It was hard to believe that the tranquil city of Joplin would transform into a near war zone with its devastation and collateral damage. I was working at a supermarket on that day, nothing unusual. Beyond the ire of the occasional customer, things were going well, at least until I received a text message. I took my phone out of my apron pocket and saw it was from my eldest daughter. It was written with a sense of urgency: she claimed that there was a tornado that had touched down not too far awa...

That New York a-hole got me in trouble

15h ago

I posted the other day that some New York-accented guy made a big scene in a local supermarket about my bare feet. Well, I went back there today and as I had just left the store with my purchases, the manager, a sort of Santa Claus-looking fellow, came up to me and basically told me I need shoes in the store. As I’ve been there over a hundred times and this manager has seen me, without any issue, I’m sure it was the New York guy (who I’ve never seen in there any other time) who prompted this. I have to say, though, the manager handled it well. No lies about liability or fake concern for my safety from broken glass. He just said, “can I ask you a question?” I said, “sure.” ...

Is unit pricing legally required in Texas?

15h ago

I’ve noticed that many supermarkets show unit prices (like $/oz or $/lb), but I’m not sure if this is actually required by law in Texas or just something stores do voluntarily. In your experience, do stores always show unit prices? And do you know if it’s legally mandated or optional?

🦞 Maine lobster prices dip this winter Market shifts explained 👇

17h ago

Wholesale lobster prices in **Maine** have softened this winter, according to dealers and industry groups, reflecting a mix of shifting export demand and typical seasonal slowdowns. The price movement carries weight for coastal communities where lobstering remains a central economic engine supporting harvesters, processors, distributors, and local small businesses. Seafood dealers report that colder offshore conditions have limited some landings, reducing overall supply in certain weeks. At the same time, export demand — particularly from major overseas markets in Asia and Europe — has fluctuated amid currency swings, freight costs, and broader trade dynamics. Winter is historically a v...

Have y'all heard their solo work in the wild?

I was just in my supermarket and I heard Logan's "Bite My Tongue" over the store radio and I was very surprised

"Okay, now, how do we do?"

19h ago

This one is a gold nugget! TLDR : Retelling (in english) what happened to a French disabled athlete met by a wild Karen in a supermarket. Paralympic athlete Grace Wembolua (I'll call her OOP) suffered from criminal fire in her childhood, and has been severely disabled since. She has prosthesics on both of her amputed legs, but since she has a smooth natural walk and wear pants, her disability is pretty invisible. Ithat short interview she tells how much of a constant battle it is to have an invisible handicap, the mental load of having to constantly justify herself and being talked badly to, for being "a young woman respecting nothing". Now here's the instant karm...
