LKWood mini event: The Mercado lives!

1h ago

It's finally done! I never imagined my first customization would take so much out of me, every little thing stressed me out so much more because I was so invested in it. As some of you know, I'm from Mexico and when I saw this kit I immediately thought of the markets in Mexico City I love so much. So I got to work. Mods: \-Built accessories and signs to convert the shops into a taquería (taco shop), panadería (bakery), abarrotes (convenience store), baños públicos (public restrooms),and oficina (market office/tenant office). \-Switched the floor from cobblestone to a tile floor paper (I got all the floor/wall papers in miniature store in Mexico City. \-Changed the window f...

# Teen to plead guilty to North Carolina shooting that killed 5 RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — An 18-year-old plans to plead guilty to a 2022 mass shooting in North Carolina that left five people dead — including his older brother — avoiding a trial next month, his attorneys said Tuesday. A written notice filed in Wake County court by the lawyers for [Austin Thompson](https://www.courttv.com/tag/austin-thompson/) said their client intends to plead guilty to all charges against him. Thompson was 15 when authorities believe [he went on a killing rampage](https://www.courttv.com/news/police-north-carolina-shooting-suspect-had-shotgun-handgun/) on Oct. 13, 2022, beginning in his Raleigh...

Why Your Astronomical Chicago Property Tax Bill is an Office Building’s Fault (And Other Market Shifts)

1h ago

Curious what everyone else has seen during this "reset" year, but I’ve been digging into the 2025 data and there are some weird, counter-intuitive things happening in Chicago real estate that aren’t making the national headlines. If you're waiting for a "crash," you're likely going to be waiting a long time. Instead, we’re seeing a massive internal reshuffling of where the money is actually going. # The Tax Burden Shift (The "Hidden" Cost) The biggest story in 2026 is the **commercial-to-residential tax shift**. Because Loop office values cratered and those owners successfully appealed their assessments, the city is clawing back that lost reve...

The Confession

2h ago

In all my 62 years on this earth not once have I felt so rattled, so guilty, so shaken in my own faith in the Lord. The Church I've attended since birth has never felt so foreign to me, the cross of my savior looming so far overhead as to glare in condemnation of my own actions as if I have not already criticized myself countless times for the past two weeks. The final echos of the last attendants shuffle out the door and there in the corner of the room sits my trial by fire, inside that foreboding confession box sits my judge and jury while God himself listens in as my executioner should my sins be too much for even a man of the cloth to forgive.   I make my way to the door, shamefu...

Got my first ThinkPad back up and running again

2h ago

I recently decided to revive my first ThinkPad - an X200s I got nearly 8 years ago. This machine started my journey into ThinkPads, and later into vintage IBMs and vintage computing as a whole. It has loads of sentimental value, and I am glad to have it back in service. Throughout its life it has had a few minor issues - most notably when I accidentally broke the screen, after which I decided to remove the BIOS supervisor password (which was a huge success). The display has since been replaced, and a new SSD installed. It's equipped with a Core 2 Duo SL9400, 3GiB of DDR2 and a 256GiB SSD. The display is the 1280x800 CCFL backlit variant. It has a 9-cell battery (I actually have two - ...

The Call From a Vacant House

2h ago

The night it happened, the air had that January bite that makes every sound travel farther than it should. You hear your own tires on wet asphalt like you are dragging a chain behind you. The sky over York County was the color of old television glass, and the clouds hung low enough to reflect the sodium-orange streetlights back down at you. I was in my cruiser on the east side, drifting the border where East York gives way to darker roads, less signage, fewer porch lights, more tree-line. Springettsbury Township was quiet the way suburbs get quiet at 2:13 a.m.; not peaceful, just paused. The kind of quiet that makes you feel like you are the only moving piece on a board. I was finishing a ...

1959 John Foster Dulles Funeral – Original US Army Planning Binder w/ Photos & Maps – Value?

2h ago

Hello everyone, I’m looking for help understanding the historical significance and realistic market value of an archival item I recently acquired. This is an original U.S. Army Military District of Washington binder titled “Funeral Plan for the Late Honorable John Foster Dulles”, dated May 1959. It appears to be an internal operational planning binder prepared for senior government and military use, not a public release. Contents include: • Original typed military funeral plans and amendments (May 22–27, 1959) • Washington National Cathedral seating plans for state & special military funeral • Arlington National Cemetery route maps and burial diagrams • Detailed...

I think I’m a receptionist for an MLM

2h ago

Hi, so about a month ago I took this position as a receptionist. The interview went well, didn’t call me back too quickly. Honestly no real red flags. I’ve been here for a while and I still really can’t complain. No one has urged me to sell anything, drive sales, cold call anyone or even recommend anyone who would be interested. However, I’ve been invited to sit in on our “weekly dealer calls”. Ever since my first one, I’ve been noticing how cult-ish it is. Big on recruitment, lots of buzz words, a lot of entrepreneurship jargon. I recently told my boyfriend’s family about my new job and he laughed, “Oh so you work for an MLM?” and now I’m really thinking… do I? ...

Shoe brand reccomendations for big feet

2h ago

As the title suggests, I have large feet. Long and wide. Think size 46 wide feet. I've recently been looking for some new shoes. After finding a pair I thought I'd like in my size, it turns out they look cartoonish when I wear them, because of how big they are. I don't live in a city, so i can't go into stores to try shoes on. So suggestions for shoes/brands that work for large feet? I'm looking for something like a classy sneaker I can wear to the office and around town. Thanks

My break-in tips

I'm a size 7 for everything. I have been wearing size 7 in classic model for years . Got the new winter one and I tried on size 7 in the store before I bought it . I bought the size 7 , after 10 mins of wearing it , I had a very painful blister on right foot and it healed after few days of blister bandaid . I tried on in store for size 7.5 & 8 and decided to go with 7.5 as my length is not the problem. When I first tried on my new blundstone , it was pushing the back at the my foot . Learn from my experience, I put blister bandaid and work with them in the office . Apparently it works ! I have to save if I took away the wool sole , size 7 is better even with wool socks. Anyw...

I'm stuck somewhere and it's not Earth (3)

[Previous post](https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/1qd6xq0/im_stuck_somewhere_and_its_not_earth_2/) Hey guys. Still alive. I got power again. I'll explain later. I woke up on the 5th day to actual responses from my second post. People are aware of what i'm experiencing. Some of them had questions. One user made a good point. Some expedition was here, spoke English, but I'm not sure how they are from a lab if they brought some little backpack. Surely they would have kept this journal. About the inhuman things, i'm sure the thing in the sea is enough to say that I am not alone. Another user asked if there was a working landline. Anywhere like this little guard po...

Edit: This turned out to be super long. Sorry kids. You can skip down to "The Plot" if you just want that. Everything with "the setting" more or less shits on her world building, including the long appendix at the end, and you can still enjoy the plot **** well enough without it. I just got very angry about how *** the worldbuilding is. Where the **** do I even start? First, **** u/Penguinho for literally making me read this ****-all book. I won't forget this. ^((/uj no but I squealed in delight when I saw your post because I love attention and stepping up to a challenge. Thank you for the dopamine boost).) Air purifier question

3h ago

my partner works retail so she's often the only manager on duty when she works. meaning she can't leave the store to eat outside :/ her shifts are so long, she can't just not eat. we want to get an air purifier for her to bring to work so it's safer for her during lunch, but im not sure if we should go with a full sized one or if a portable one will do? the room is pretty small, she eats in the managers office. usually no one is in there for a while before she goes in there (still makes us uncomfortable without an air purifier) but I've heard very mixed reviews of the portable purifiers. if anyone has any recommendations on specific ones, feel free to send! shoul...

The Next Best Hero- Chapter 6

# Chapter 6: His Ten-Thousands [Previous](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/1q9mk7x/the_next_best_hero_chapter_5/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Outside the city walls, a dark-furred creature tears through the bronze armor and into the flesh of its prey, freshly hunted in Salvation Forest. This wasn’t a natural forest, but one cultivated by the city to maintain its lumber supply. It is constantly guarded by teams of heroes. But with them becoming the next meal of the amarok, there is no one to guard over the forest. Other, smaller monsters take advantage of this, and make their way inside the fo...

The Supercomputer Killer-3 (Detective Horror)

Part 2 linked above. “This footprint belongs to a RedWing Traction Tred Lite work boot.” Harris pointed to the picture of the footprint, moving his fingertip in a circle around a small label at the center of the print. I leaned back in my chair. “And your killer wears the same shoe?” “Exactly.” Harris flipped open his manila folder and began leafing through photos. Staring up at me from the glossy paper, the empty eyes of Sarah Lindsey, 32. Her head lolled back over the top of her desk chair, her blue mouth hanging open in faded surprise. Below her neck, a mass of red shredded cloth sank her chest in like a wet cardboard box. Another photo set on top of that one. A red 12...
