SolarSnap - Apps on Google Play

3d ago

I built a free app called SolarSnap that tells you in 60 seconds whether plug-in solar panels will actually work for your home — before you spend any money. With plug-in panels about to appear in Lidl, Sainsbury's and Currys once the new regulations come in this summer, I figured a lot of people are going to be tempted but unsure whether their home or flat is even suitable. How it works: you open the app, point your phone at the sky from where you'd put a panel, and it gives you an instant suitability rating (Excellent / Good / Fair / Poor) based on your GPS location, compass direction, tilt angle, and real solar irradiance data for your area across Europe. The basic result is ...

The Global Push to Challenge Visa and Mastercard: Sovereignty, Speed, and Competition in Payments

5d ago

\*\*\*\* In an era of digital finance, geopolitical tensions, and demands for lower costs, major economies worldwide are investing heavily in domestic and regional payment systems. While Visa and Mastercard remain dominant—processing trillions in transactions annually with robust growth—the rise of alternatives like Europe’s Wero, India’s UPI, Brazil’s Pix, and others signals a broader shift toward greater payment independence. This trend is not a coordinated global "ditching" of the U.S. card networks but a pragmatic response to high merchant fees (often 1-3%), reliance on foreign infrastructure, and risks exposed by sanctions and supply chain vulnerabilities. Sie or Du? The Rule Nobody Actually Follows (And Why Germans Are Secretly Confused Too)

5d ago

You study German for months and one of the first things you learn is the Sie/Du rule. Simple, right? Sie for formal, Du for informal. Easy. Then you walk into an IKEA and suddenly everyone is duzing you. You start a job at a tech company and the CEO emails you with Du. You go to a traditional bank and one wrong Du could make you look like a clown. You text your 60-year-old neighbor with Du because she told you to, but her husband is still Sie after 2 years. Here's the truth: Germans are confused about this too. The rule has been shifting for decades and nobody can fully agree on what it is anymore. Natives, please weigh in below because this post is going to need your corrections. Lea...

Thoughts on effect LIDL has in your coutnries market ?

5d ago

Hey there, just an average LIDL customer from a small EU country. Since Lidl started operating in our country we've gone the whole circle. First we all saw it as a cheap low quality knock off of every brand ever made. So the general public was reluctant to visit Lidls as it was a ''lower class'' option. Nowadays im almost certain that Lidl is by far the most popular. They have the lowest prices by far, quality proved to be top notch all along and they have the best customer policy & logistics. What Im afraid of: Since the rise of Lidls popularity I started to ask myself. Where will the local and native companies and producers sell ? Lidl keeps the pric...

Potato recipes with Dutch potatos

6d ago

Ever since I moved here 9 months ago my potato dishes have suffered immensely and I don't understand why. I have tried *vastkokend, kruimig, kriel* and the *red* variety for each of the recipes. I usually make 1) Pan seared potato chunks (peel, boil for 5-10 mins, add into a pan with butter/oil and sear): Somehow these potatoes just don't brown. 2) Mashed potatoes (peel, cut small, drain, mash / rice, add milk & butter & salt): Somehow the potatoes just don't *taste* like potatoes. It's very hard to describe but the potato flavour is just very bland. 3) Oven baked potato wedges (slice into wedges with skin, boil for 5 mins, put on oven sheet, coa...

Žarkovci, da li ste za uklanjanje Super Vera?

Žarkovci, da li bi umesto Super Vera više voleli Lidl ili neki drugi market? Možda bi moglo nekako da se izdejstvuje da se Vero skloni, jer je realno preskup.

Looking for people who want to collaborate on creating a grocery chain boycott movement.

8d ago

Let's brain storm. The boycott in Croatia has some short term benefits. Maybe can design an improved one. Edit: the top 3 chains (Biedronka, Lidl, Dino) control \~45% of the market. One could begin from there.

A story of why I love my gf so much...

9d ago

Hi gang! It was a grocery visit like we had so many times. Oh, you guys don't know me or us: my gf and me met at an older age, we don't live together but we always spend the weekend in the others place. **My** gf (who is looking over my shoulder, time of writing <3) doesn't screw around (pun intended). When she sets her mind into things... oh dear... We we're heading towards a local grocery store / supermarket ("Lidl") and we we're in a good mood. We get to the entrance, but... no baskets? At the time of my story this was a small store (more of a grocery market than a super) and while it was easy to grab a basket from near the tills.. my gf had ot...

A (non-exhaustive) list of UK colour and dark safe detergents with lipase

10d ago

So I've spent more time than is healthy reading this sub over the last few weeks. I first came here trying to solve the problem of persistent scent on a Vinted item, which is another saga entirely, and quickly got ****** in to wanting to understand ALL. THE. THINGS. In my perusing I have frequently seen people in the UK lamenting that there are no decent colour detergents without optical brighteners now that Persil colour has an OBA in it. But I was looking at lots of info on different detergents, and kept seeing those that do have enzymes and no OBA. Anyway, I decided to compile a list of them as a PSA. It is not exhaustive, I'm sure there are many I have never heard or thought ...
