I started with a raised bed and wanted my own marigolds, not just the ones from Home Depot. From a seed and I did attempt a tray first, I decided one day to just plant direct, cross my fingers, will positive vibes, think happy thoughts, and maybe a rain dance or 2… I present, my 3 jaguar marigolds! They are so beautiful and I’m so happy! If anyone has advice on why they are small compared to the store (I’ve read that rooting versus flowering could be a thing), please share. I’m still happy no matter what. They are so pretty! Desperate for entry-level jobs and careers?7h agoHi, I just moved back from the UK. I quit my PhD program (humanities) and while have transferrable, soft, research skills, I just can’t seem to find something. My resume is one page and not overly descriptive of my experience, knowledge, or qualifications—just enough to be considered TikTok sized. Yes, I do have a longer 2-page CV for other niche jobs I’ve been applying for in further/higher-ed and the humanities. I’m currently using indeed and zip recruiter. I have an IT cert for help desk positions, but not getting many interviews in that area either due to my lack of experience or the cultural belief that entry-level IT might not well suit women (e.g., in the heat making ru... Need help with backwash hose8h agoHi all, We bought our homestead with an above ground pool and when we moved in 5 years ago we had a pool company open the pool, and I’ve DIY-ed and learned on the fly since that bill came in lol. Last night the taped backwash hose came loose. Fun! It was previously duct taped (or otherwise some silver tape with reinforcing grid-thread) to the PVC outlet. What is the best way to reconnect it? I’m thinking that this blue hose that we have handy is the most robust way to do it, and would like to be able to just screw it onto the port on the wall every new season. Any suggestions on what fittings I’ll need to accomplish this or a better way to do it? Thanks! (Note: Canadian with ready... How do you secure a patio umbrella without a base?9h agoSo I learned this the hard way last summer when my brand new patio umbrella went flying across my neighbor's yard during a random windstorm. I was being cheap and thought I could skip buying a proper base. Big mistake. If you're wondering how to secure a patio umbrella without a base, I get it. Maybe you're renting and can't drill holes, or you're just trying to save some money. I've been there. But after dealing with my umbrella disaster (and having to buy my neighbor a new garden gnome), I figured out some decent workarounds. **The Weighted Bucket Method** This is probably the easiest DIY solution. Get a large bucket - like a 5-gallon one from Home Depot. F... My first, deranged, diy sCrappy coop for your viewing pleasure10h agowell, I'm done. It took weeks and lots of blood and too many trips to the home depot but here is my insane coop. I'm a total building beginner, I didn't have plans, I just kind of stared at enough coops until I felt I could figure it out. And I guess I did. It's roughly a 4ft by 4ft by 4ft cube except not really. There are no straight angles in this thing. It looks like it was directed by Tim Burton. But it feels very sturdy 🤷♀️ it's in a hardware cloth run with dig skirts and a tarp over it. It definitely needs paint for longevity later but it doesnt get too wet so far. The inside stays dry which I consider a big deal lol the random boards on the inside ... Will I ever get my love for dogs back?11h agoI used to be an extreme dog lover but unfortunately I think we set ourself up to fail…We have 3 dogs, a toddler and we live in a small home where I can’t put them somewhere isolated where they will not wake the baby up. The three dogs have a pack mentality. Once one dog does something the others join. And if one dog barks the rest of them do and there is no telling them to stop at that point unless you are screaming at all of them. They are the source of my overstimulation throughout the day. We recently built a large shop in our backyard after only having a Home Depot shed to store garage type stuff in for 7 years. We do not have an attached garage to our home or anything. Just to giv... Some deals at Home Depot20h agoNothing spectacular, but probably worth checking if you are looking for specific tools. I got to the point in the assembly process where I needed to put the supplied oil into the engine. The manual said "add 10oz of oil from the provided 12oz bottle", and "the engine ships without any oil", ok I thought no problem, I just need to add the oil down the dip stick funnel and I'll be good to fire this bad boy up for the first time. However, when I removed the dip stick there was clearly some kind of oil already on the dip stick. I thought maybe someone had added the oil and returned it to the store, but when I smelled in the gas... Is there an equivalent to Big Lots out there?1d agoI bought all my seasonal stuff at Big Lots every year because it was just so affordable yet the quality was always pretty great. Now that they're all gone in my area, where can a girl go besides Marshall's, Home Depot, and Cracker Barrel? Dollar Tree is great but too cheap, but the stuff at Marshall's and TJ Maxx is a little pricier than Big Lots. Are there other closeout or overstock home stores out there that are like Big Lots? 🎃 I've heard of At Home. I think there's one in my area, so I may explore that option next. But I wonder if Big Lots was the lone place out there with super cute, cheap, good quality stuff. Tools Buying Options in USA1d agoGood day all, I am a marine engineer who has been sailing for more than 15 years and a tool lover. I will be calling US ports like Charleston, Port Everglades, Newark and Philadelphia. I wanted to purchase tool sets/power tools to take back home and needed help to decide which brand to go for. I have time tested Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt, Black & Decker, Bosch, Bacho, Gedore,Rimo products. Few things I needed help with: 1. Where to buy them from? Physical store or online through home depot or Lowe's? These are the two websites I found on Google. Or are there any other local shops. 2. Which brand is more value for money to buy from US. I mostly found Milwaukee and Dewalts product... Bathroom needs a re-tiling. Any tiling ideas?1d agoLong story short, the upstairs bathroom has a leak we can’t immediately see that damaged the ceiling and some walls of our laundry room below. As such the tile needs to be replaced so we need to pick out a tile for the contractor. We can’t afford a whole renovation, unfortunately, so we have to do tile only. Partner would prefer porcelain/ceramic and a more modern size tile with less grout, such as an 12x24. I’m having a **** of a time trying to find some though. Went by Lowe’s, Home Depot, and the tile store to grab sample and nothing really seems to work. Interior decorating is not my strong suit but I feel like the tub’s color and the bathroom tiles limit options (see pics).... Should I Purchase?1d agoCurrently have a Simpson made 4gpm 4400 psi machine PowerShot. It’s alright but want to get a Honda engine and not the biggest fan of the AAA pump. Is the BE machine recommended by anyone? I’m in Canada so there are limited options. Anybody ever try this hack and it successfully work??1d agoI wanna get the m18 mid torque from Home Depot but I already have enough m18 batteries and chargers and don’t want or need more, am I able to just buy the “free tool deal” and then return the batteries and charger? $249 without bundle deal for tool only vs $135.86 with bundle deal, im assuming yes since it’s technically itemized Home depot run1d agoJust left the hardware store and had 14 bags of mulch in the back with some more room to spare. Averaged 39 mpg while driving 15 miles back home. Online Category Spend - what am I missing ?1d agoHey all! I'm trying to organize or maximize rewards deemed "online category" and thought I'd post a list to see what you guys think I'm not thinking about or missing. Here's what I've tagged so far: * Paypal - Adobe * Paypal - Microsoft * Paypal - Spotify * Paypal - Netflix * Paypal - Starbucks * Google One * YouTube Premium * Costco.com * Target * Steam * Amazon * Store retail apps (REI, Nordstrom, Target, Home Depot, ..., etc.) Am I missing anything that you use towards online category? EDIT: adding card: BofA Customized Cash Rewards card Recommendation for a store bought riding lawnmower.1d agoCurrently have a xt1 cub cadet that has been a hot mess since a year after we bought it. Finally decided to just shoot it, put it out of its misery and move on. We only have 3/4 of an acre to mow, just a little gully in the front yard, so not too much to it. But we have a budget just around $2800 or so. Cant afford to wait to save up more for another one or anything like that unfortunately. Is there a good choice for just regular use at Home Depot/Lowes that anyone would recommend? Kinda soured on Cub Cadet after this one. Are the link / storage systems being discontinued or updated?1d agoFor the past few weeks I have been unable to find a single component of the link system or any of the tool boxes in the couple of Home Depot that I frequent. I've been told by them that they had all these things heavily discounted and "pennied-out", and that they don't carry them anymore. In a couple cases the Home Depot app said that there were a few still in stock at the store, but it wasn't true. I've been looking at redoing my whole garage with this system, and you can still order them online, but I don't want to commit to this system if it will be discontinued or completely refreshed. Do any of you know anything?
