I try to boycott where I can, but I’m starting to think it would be easier to have a list of chains I CAN shop without guilt. Obviously 99.9% of big box stores and popular chains are going to be somewhat evil… but I don’t live somewhere where I can avoid them. I’m in the Midwest USA. Please let me know of any places that are on the more ethical end… or even “choose this instead of that” like shopping at Lowe’s over Home Depot. Turns out these old shutoff valves for my washing machine have gone bad, the inside has rusted and fallen apart to where they don’t work anymore. None of the stores around me carry this specific valve with the short 1/2” section though. I’ve tried Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace, even the small local hardware store. I can only find them with 2” long threads. It would technically work, but I’d like to try and find a matching replacement. Are these just obsolete or a speciality item?

My spouse and I are renovating our house and we've hit a snag with the master bath; we want a console-style vanity base with a few drawers and a couple/few doors at 72"-84" in a stain/color that will match the wood floors in the rest of the house. We found the right color at Home Depot (Weathered Tan) but the wrong depth (we need 21" minimum for our vessel sinks). We found the right color and layout with Kraftmaid but the cost is \~$5000. I've searched the entire internet, we've been to all the stores within an hour drive (box stores and smaller stores), and we're entirely lost. Any recommendations? :(

Hey everyone, I need some clarity from people who actually work at Home Depot. Im a a full-time associate hourly associate, but for my mental health I usually have a fellow associate cover one shift/week so I stay under 40 hrs some weeks. He needs the hours and I need the break. A store assistant manager pulled me aside this morning and told me that because, I’m full time working under 40 is NOT allowed. And this is the last shift exchange he's approving. I tried explaining it’s to help with burnout, but he basically said 40 hrs required. Is that actually a thing in Home Depot SOP/handbook? At my local Home Depot they have this light marked at 11.99 but they are never In stock , is there a way I can get it for that price if I order online?

Bought a bookcase to house books and a big Canon printer. Measured the printer, made sure it would fit on the shelf and it did with a little over a inch of clearance on each side. Assembled the bookcase, put it into it's place, put the printer on it, realized I couldn't open the paper feeder because its on top of the printer and it hits the shelf above it. So I decided to put in a sliding shelf. I purchased a novelty blank key that I want to get cut to be used as my house key. Does anyone know where I can go to get this key cut? I've tried Lowe's and Ace Hardware in Puyallup and both places told me that they don't do this and to call a locksmith. I called several I found on Google that told me they also don't do that and one guy told me it would cost me over $100 and to go to a hardware store. I'm going to try Home Depot in Puyallup and McClendon on Canyon but would love to hear a success story so I don't have to keep calling and stopping in places.

Hey all, When I received my first large Datura, I was a bit shocked that Phillips makes you drill holes into your ceiling to mount the light. When I searched it on Google, I found some Reddit posts about the same issue, but no one actually had a workaround, and instead people just suggested to proceed with drilling. I didn't want to drill any holes into my textured ceiling, so I figured out a way to mount the light utilizing your light/chandelier mount (which is screwed into the actual joist/wood frame of your ceiling). I was looking at the ABA44Z last night, I'd swear it was about $10. This morning it's around $15 at Lowe's, Home Depot, and Amazon. Amazon's price history confirms the jump. I know the last time I bought an ABA66Z it was about $22, now it's up to $33. Is this a seasonal hike - or is this the new normal?

Been seeing these instructions floating around every once in a while and I finally had time over the weekend to build a shelf. The idea is that you can build one of these with a single piece of 4x8 plywood. I first made the drawing in AutoCAD and Sketchup to verify all dimensions and final build. The dimensions provided actually have a little bit of buffer (around 1/8") so make sure you account for that. It also accounts for 1/8" thick sawblade cuts. It sure appears to be a case of bad practices, with Penske Home Depot Truck rentals. I am a Home Depot employee, and all points of logic showed their truck hit my car, with one of their renters. I show the yellow paint on my orange car, add to that, orange paint on the Penske yellow truck. The lone Home Depot camera didn’t reach the part of the parking lot, and no witnesses came forward. This occurred while I was working inside. I provided pictures of both vehicles, but matching paint transfers in the vehicles was not enough for Penske. Been applying for a couple months now. Have had 2 interviews to which they ended up going with other candidates. I know my resume is very rough and needs a lot of fixes and changes.
