Possible ICE activity? at Riverside Home Depot (12/20/25)

1h ago

I rolled into the parking lot of Home Depot on Madison at about 12;30 this PM to pick up a few items. I made a point of counting the men standing at the edge of the parking lot, presumably waiting for an offer of day labor. I saw five, although there could have been others that I did not see. I left the store about 45 minutes later and attempted to reach Madison via the driveway on the east side of the car wash south of the store. The driveway was blocked by an RPD cruiser. Behind it was a green military style vehicle surrounded by several men in tactical gear. I turned around and exited the parking lot on Indiana. I also noticed that all the day laborers were nowhere to be seen. No ...

Did not expect to find this at Home Depot

In Canada I’ve never seen a variegated monstera in any big box stores. It was labelled as a white monster but I have no idea how to tell if it came from the proper lineage or if it’s just a renamed mint

Height of Chain-link Fencing at Le Mans?

4h ago

I will be making my first trip to Circuit La Sarthe this coming June and am very excited to finally experience the event in person. I am in the US and have been to many race events in the states, but especially the Rolex 24-hour race at Daytona (10 straight years of attending). My best friend and I enjoy taking pictures of the events and have figured out that most of the chain-link fences that line the tracks are six feet (or two meters) high, so I have a folding step stool that fits in my luggage that allows me to get above the fence to take pictures. The last few years at Daytona, we have just stopped at the Home Depot store near the track and purchased a five-gallon bucket for $5; you can...

Finding the correct expansion bolt

4h ago

I am installing a pool umbrella that will be bolted into concrete. The vendor said I need 8mm/0.314" expansion bolts. Every hardware store I've been to (Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware) said they don't sell them because it's a metric bolt that is not sold where we live. When I look it up on Amazon, nothing shows up with that exact bolt. What am I missing?

Reoccurring dream

6h ago

Hi all, I’m posting on behalf of my boyfriend. He has this reoccurring dream where every couple months where he is floating/flying slowly through aisles of Home Depot sometimes above racks and sometimes at eye level with people but more specifically in one store he worked at for a long time and he is in the flooring or lumber department. Sometimes he interacts with people but usually not and he is just moseying around. It’s usually a day shift. He’s never doing actual work. He’s like “classic” slacking at work not really working and floating around not being productive. He said rarely he’s gone outside in the dreams. Sometimes in the parking lot but it skips straight to his ca...

(USA) Need large house numbers

7h ago

So the big box stores (Home Depot/Lowes) sell like 5-6 inch tall house numbers. Because my house is down a 70 foot driveway or so, I need bigger numbers so that they are visible from the street. Something like 12-18 inches tall. That size of numbers on Amazon are like $30-$40 each, and I need 4 of them. But I was thinking it couldn't be too hard to 3D print with some holes for screws in each one and I could support small creators instead of Amazon dropshippers.

Good battery deal?

11h ago

Need to up my M12 battery game. I have 5 4.0 batteries right now but I’ve been hearing the 5.0 high outputs are significantly better. They also have a two pack of the 5.0’s for $160 but I can spend the extra $20 and get two sets of this and get 2 of the high outputs 2.5’s for my electric ratchets? Good deal or pretty average?

Access denied

11h ago

So it now seems that if I’m connected to Home Depot’s in-store wifi, I can’t access the website of one of our main competitors in Canada. I tried accessing Canadian Tire’s website site on my phone and I don’t have permission to access it. Turn off my wifi and I can access it through my cellular data. Rona’s site is fine.

Moving purge

21h ago

Hi ladies! I’m going to be moving in about 6 weeks and while I’m in a good headspace of getting rid of the stuff I don’t want to take with me, I’m having major executive dysfunction when it comes to DEALING with the stuff I want to get rid of. There’s garbage, furniture that I doubt someone would want to take, clothes, etc. and I just wish that I could take it outside my house and someone would just take it away and deal with it without me having to. Has anyone had to deal with something similar, and do you have any tips, or ideas that wouldn’t cost a whole lot? I’ve considered possibly renting one of those Home Depot trucks for like a day and just taking turns going to the dum...

Where to find patio heater deals and discounts?

22h ago

Finding good deals on patio heaters doesn't have to break the bank. With the right approach, you can score significant savings on quality outdoor heating equipment. **Amazon - Your Best Starting Point** Amazon consistently offers some of the best patio heater deals year-round. You'll find everything from propane patio heaters to electric models with competitive pricing. The platform runs frequent sales, especially during off-season months when demand drops. Plus, you get the convenience of reading real customer reviews before buying. **Timing Your Purchase** The sweet spot for patio heater discounts happens during late spring and summer months. Retailers clear inventory when ou...

Has anyone actually found a store-bought garbage bin that GFL accepts? (They rejected my new one)

23h ago

Hey neighbours, I’m trying to avoid the monthly bin rental fee with GFL, so I bought a standard wheeled garbage can (IPL Master Cart) from Canadian Tire. GFL just emailed me refusing to take it. They claimed the vertical reinforcement rib on the front is a "safety hazard" for their trucks. They told me I need to find a lift-compatible "tote" (their terminology) that has **no** front "bar". The health and safety manager the rep spoke with said it's a 'hazard'. They also said they are phasing out any round-shaped bins as well very soon. Where do you draw the "hand tool" line?

1d ago

As a hand-tool woodworker, what do you personally consider to be the starting point for your "woodworking" when it follows the adjective† "hand-tool"? Is it: 1. Whenever you acquire the wood, regardless of the state? OR 2. Whenever the wood is in a fully prepared state; i.e. well flattened, smoothed, and squared? OR 3. Something else? And note the intentional precision in my question. I am *not* looking for advice, or suggestions, or even permission to buy a jointer! I am asking about how *you personally* see the world. See my **Note** at the bottom for more on that. # Background I'm a couple of months into hand-tool woodworking (actually, of woodworking of *a...

Washer & Dryer Stackable Reccomendations

1d ago

Fellow Redditors - I’ve recently had to say goodbye to my 15yo Whirlpool washer. The dryer is still going, but I’m just going to get rid of it. Specs of my old Whirlpool: https://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/WFW8400TB.html?srsltid=AfmBOopN2sOkuH1-MGo34eov2n-xWmMXg2bhSbgcLo0Tr9l2ZAweZVQm I’m thinking of buying a stackable Electrolux at Christmas sales, but I’m looking at going to Best Buy. I live in the DC area and went to Bray & Scarff, who was pushing Maytags. From my research on Reddit, Maytags are not the best, but I’m open to opinions here. I’ve read that Home Depot is the absolute worst, and I know Best Buy isn’t amazing but it seems to be fair. I’ll ...

Place to recycle Christmas lights?

1d ago

Hi Bham people! Earth-lover here. Of course our Christmas lights all went half-out this year, and it KILLS my tree-hugging soul to just put them in the trash. It feels disrespectful to give them to the thrift store, because who wants half-lit Christmas lights. Maybe someone would if they were cheap enough? Idk. I'd really love to recycle them, but it's hard to find a place. It looks like Home Depot used to have a program and so did Walmart. Walmart's is all gone now, and Home Depot is unclear which stores participate. Anyone recycled them this year somewhere in Bham? Ready to get them off my living room floor.

Seeking Gnome/troll/gargoyle statue

1d ago

Hi all, looking to get one of my parents a gnome/gargoyle/troll statue for the holidays, somewhat of a family joke. Where might be a good place in the greater Burlington area to get one? The uglier/funnier the better. Bonus points if I can avoid big box stores like Home Depot or Lowes. I’d like to shop local if I can.

Just starting, where to get billets and bars for first punches/hammers/tongs

1d ago

What I don't have near me: 1) scrap yards 2) anyone local that specializes in selling any metal 3) no Facebook marketplace scene at all What I do have: 1) Lowes and Home Depot and your regular chain stores around the eastern USA 2) Access to Amazon and any webstore that ships I just setup my smithy and I'm excited to get started. I have Mark Asperys book which goes through the steps of which tools to forge first.
