Storm Prep: Where to Buy Salt/Ice Melt

2h ago

Starting a thread for those looking for salt/ice melt supplies. Apparently, Lowe’s, Home Depot and the usual suspects are out. I couldn’t get through to ask Target. As of 1:30 on Wednesday, the following stores had some in stock: —Autozone on Pantops had salt according to another post. They also have locations on 29 at Greenbrier and in Ruckersville and Louisa. —Advance Auto Parts has 20-pound bags and 12-pound jugs. They have a few locations. Their website allows you to buy online and pick up in person. Check the pick up location to make sure it doesn’t switch you to Roanoke. —Southern States/Blue Ridge Co-Op on Proffit is out. The location on Harris Street has some in sto...

Should I pursue my undergrad BComm in Accounting or SCM?

2h ago

I'm at a crossroads here of what I want to do I have an Accounting and Finance Diploma from College and am looking to transfer to University to get my Degree. It will take me 3-4 semesters to finish, and I'll probably work a co-op term. I'm a bit older and started my bachelor's late. I worked at Home Depot for 3 years as head of receiving for a store and I loved the job and would have gladly stayed there forever if the pay wasn't ****. I considered SCM would be in this field but more upscale. Accounting was okay for me, I did relatively well, but I enjoyed my finance and business courses much more. However it seems like Accounting specialization is a more generic...

Why Michigan Might Be the Best State to Open a new Bin Store Right Now

4h ago

If you've been thinking about starting a bin store or open a retail busness in general, I want to make a case for Michigan. I've been researching this space for a while and I think the timing and location factors are lining up perfectly here. # What's a Bin Store? For those who don't know, bin stores sell liquidated merchandise from Amazon, Walmart, Target, and other big retailers. Returns, overstock, shelf pulls. You dump everything into big bins, price it on a declining scale throughout the week (like $10 on Friday, down to $1 by Wednesday), and people dig through looking for deals. It's basically a treasure hunt shopping experience. These stores exploded after ...

Need help (new hire)

5h ago

So, I just started at Home Depot as a Pro Sales Associate. During orientation, there were two other new hires who had really unpredictable availability because of college, which I totally get because I'm also in school. When it was my turn to share my schedule, I mentioned that I only have classes on Mondays and Tuesdays since I crammed all my credits into those days. But now, I just saw the schedule posted and I'm scheduled for almost 30 hours in one week, (to fill the gaps of the other PSAs) which is way too much for me considering I need time to do my homework. I'm on the schedule for every day that I don't have class, and the hours are just overwhelming. I'm worr...

Water softener recommendations.

5h ago

Looking to buy a water softener. I’ve always had hard water and right now it’s about a 12. Home Depot sells a 32k softener for around $600. My local plumbing store sells a Lancaster 32k with a lifetime warranty for $1,000. I have a 3bed room house 1.5 bath and it’s just me at the moment. Am I better off buying the Lancaster? Or does it not make much of a difference?

Meet My Therapy Dog, Bed Bug Snitch, and One Enthusiastic Intern

6h ago

# Meet Ernie, Ellie, and Izze Ernie, Ellie, and Izze are three very different working dogs who keep life interesting in the Northern Virginia / DC area. Between therapy visits, bed bug searches, and “intern duty,” there is pretty much always a dog either on the clock or on the couch at the house. # Ernie: The Bingo-Crashing Therapy Dog (on the right) Ernie is a therapy dog and has been visiting people at a rehab and assisted living facility for eight years. As he has gotten older, he does not have the stamina to go room-to-room like he used to, so these days he mostly crashes bingo once a week and always makes time to stop by the memory care ward, because that is where he seems to ...

Indoor place to walk dog?

13h ago

Howdy all, this is a total longshot, but I figured I might as well ask in case anyone has some secret knowledge! Is there any store/etc in Madison you can take a dog inside, but isn’t a tiny artsy shop? Doesn’t need to be big, just not small. I liked to walk inside of Madison College in the winters when I went there, but obviously dogs can’t go there. I have a freak dog who doesn’t get cold and doesn’t understand why it’s difficult to do lots of walks right now, why there are no dogs at the park to play with, or why his bald dog friend hasn’t been around lately. He’s obviously still getting time outside and isn’t dying of neglect, just not as much as usual. ETA: Thank yo...

Hey Employees (especially MEA), I'm looking to apply.

14h ago

Hey people! My seasonal O/N (overnight) inbound position at Target just ended, and I'm looking to transition over to working at Home Depot O/N. I'm about to apply for a Merchandising position (MEA) at a store near me, and see if I can get overnight through the application aswell. Couple questions for y'all, and to set a baseline, as Target Inbound I was mainly just stocking shelves in the grocery and pet aisles *(average lifting weight of 20-30lb, 40-60 for pets)* and there would be days where I would spend 1-2 hours unloading the trucks. My breaks were 15min paid, 45 unpaid, 15 paid throughout an 8 hour shift *(10pm-6am)*. I got paid $19/h *(In NY, Long Island)* including t...

Might not be the right place but I have a new Ryobi product I’m looking to sell

14h ago

I received a leaf blower and weed trimmer brand new for Christmas. But my in lawn didn’t realize I already own it. They live out of state and the department store they bought it from is not in our area. Still in the box. I also don’t want to return it and they get a credit back and make them feel bad. My mother in law thought it was such a great gift and so excited. I am more than willing to go below the retail price but not a bunch since it’s brand new in the box. I could always get Home Depot store credit but the cash would be more helpful in this economy. lol Any thoughts and if this is the wrong place can you guys share a better sub Reddit? Also saw some posted the shop vac by...

Thoughts on this deal?

14h ago

I’m planning to spend a good chunk of change on an M18 Fuel combo set as a casual DIY’er with currently zero Milwaukee tools.. I want to start a nice collection, just waiting for a 10% off promo code from Home Depot in the mail.. In the meantime though, I came across this deal and wanted some insight

Road trip pit stop location tips/suggestions?

17h ago

I'm taking my first road trip since my surgery a year ago, driving from about San Francisco to about San Diego. I'll be taking "the 5"(aka "Hwy 5" for the non-Californians) most of the way down. Does anyone have any pit stop location tips? When I'm out and about, I tend to look for a Home Depot because their bathrooms tend to at least be all operational, stalls are relatively plentiful, and they have a general baseline of acceptable cleanliness, which I admit is fairly low, but rarely "...eww...no, I'm not using this" level of gross. I've tried chain pharmacies, grocery stores, and Targets, but I've definitely struck out at those ...

Question about the special buys.

18h ago

Hey everyone this morning I walked into home Depot and purchased (in store) a M18 1/2" drive impact (2967-21B) because I needed it for a job. I didn't shop around because it was a last minute purchase really. But this afternoon after showing my dad the tool on HD's website, because he now wants one, I see that what I purchased is a "Special buy" and that I could (should) have gotten a 12hr forge battery free as well. The employees who helped me didn't say anything but my question is, would they honor that deal if I went back in the morning with my receipt and asked to be given the battery I believe I should have received? Would I need to return everything in ...

Stay at home parents

19h ago

Stay-at-home parents of school-aged children—what do you do all day? My spouse stays home while I work, and we have a fairly balanced division of labor. I handle paying the bills and most of the house cleaning/repairs—vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms, laundry, etc. My spouse does all the grocery shopping and cooks our meals. We usually eat out on Fridays and Saturdays and have leftovers on Thursdays. They also take the kids to school, pick them up, and serve as a room parent for one of our children. I’ve never really given much thought to what they do during the day while the kids are at school. Today, I took the day off to get a break from work and got a glimpse into it. They got up, m...

Can anyone help me choose a top load washer with an agitator?

20h ago

I cannot afford a speed queen, my mom insists on getting a top loader with an agitator, it cannot be greater than 4.8 cu. ft., and I can only afford to spend at most $800. All of those preferences are my mom's, not mine, except for my budget. I am also looking for a washer that can last at least 4 years. I have been considering LGs because most negative reviews are concerns about water not filling and clothes not being cleaned, which implies that LG top load washers don't really breakdown. Granted, water not filling and clothes not being cleaned are issues themselves, but I have read that those issues can be resolved by pre-filling with water and using the right settings. I am lo...

Paddle Switch vs Slide Switch

22h ago

Curious of everyone’s thoughts on this topic. My local HD has this Mikita on sale in both versions. I was going to pick one up before the sale ends but can’t really make up my mind. Project Farm did a review on the slide switch version and Claire it was difficult to engage. I’ve always had a slide switch on my tools so I’m not really sure which direction to go in. Also neither of these versions are on display to try in store. Also PF did his review on a different model although the switches used are probably the same I would think. Thoughts?
