Hair cut recomendations

3d ago

Hi, I am looking to get a pretty extreme haircut soon, but don't know where to go. We used to go to Jasmine at Supercuts in Saberton, but she moved. I don't have a huge budget, but will pay a little more because of how extreme the cut is. I have slightly wavy hair and am going for a longish pixie cut from about shoulder length, if that matters. Thanks in advance!

Walk In Haircuts?

3d ago

I'm in desperate need of a haircut and am looking for a place like Supercuts where I can just walk in and get something basic. I do have curly hair, but I want a simple bob so I don't think a curly stylist is necessary. Is there any place in Manhattan that does this?

Hair stylist / Barber on the west side?

3d ago

Haven’t cut my hair since I moved to Jacksonville 4 years ago and I’m ready to let it go. Back when my hair was shorter I would pretty much just go to any of the Hispanic barbers in SD and would be solid. Anyone have some recommendations on the west side? (Hair is down to the middle of my back and would like to avoid chain places like Supercuts etc…) Thanks in advance.

Hair cut on a Sunday for MIL?

7d ago

Hello! My mother-in-law is visiting and wants to get a haircut (nothing fancy) at a salon, but not a Supercuts type place. Anyone know of stylists who book last-minute on a Sunday near downtown or midtown?

What are the most frugal yet low-effort options for coloring hair?

8d ago

My budget doesn’t extend to getting my roots colored every month, but I’m terrible at coloring my own hair (there’s a lot of it, and it needs to be done every 3-4 weeks because it grows fast, too). Even Supercuts charges $60 to color roots. I’ve considered hiring someone through TaskRabbit to help me. I’m going to have to figure out something soon because I’m going to be looking for a job, and I’m feeling really insecure about job hunting in my 50s. Due to my general ineptitude with hair, I can’t cut it too short to put up in a ponytail. More info: \- My hair is naturally dark brown, and I use Clairol Medium Mahogany Brown (which is actually too dark, but I’m stuck with ...

Reasonably priced salon? Nail place?

11d ago

Hi.. I'm looking for some recommendations for a reasonably priced salon or stylist. I'm in need of some self care. To be honest, I haven't gotten a professional cut since COVID so I have noooo idea how much to expect. And I can't afford too much. I read one post where a lady paid like $300 for services- I definitely can't afford that, but I don't want to go to like Supercuts either. I just want a layered cut, don't even have to style my hair.. no dye or anything. I'm also looking for a decent place to get a pedi. I used to go to Woodland and it was about $40 (with tip) but that was a year ago. Again, I have no idea what the average price is. S...

How much length do you need to lose to get layers/a shag?

13d ago

I've been growing my hair out because I eventually want a medium shag (by male standards) or a wolf cut. The problem is, my haircut before was a really basic SuperCuts haircut and it's reached the point of being super ugly and unwieldy, mostly because the front is way out of proportion compared to the rest. I feel like I need something done, but the problem is right now my hair is the length I would want the shag to be once freshly cut, so I'll be going shorter when all's said and done. Would it be possible for the salonist to cut the texture in while only taking like 0.5-1 inch off the back while cutting the front more, or should I bite the bullet and keep my ugly haircu...

Old Lady Haircuts

13d ago

I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong here, because no matter what I ask my stylists I always get talked away from getting a cut that is fun, risky, or what I actually want. I used to have a stylist that was willing to experiment and I got some great cuts from her before she left the state a year or two before covid. I cut my own length for a long time but nothing more than that. Now... I feel like the stylists I think might be adventurous still want to "avoid making it too \[whatever\] as it grows out." If it grows out weird, I'll get another cut! This ain't my first rodeo! I'm sitting here with a nice, safe, might-as-well-be-my-mom one length cut that&#...

Looking for hairstylist recs

14d ago

Hoping to get some good recommendations for a hairstylist who is really skilled cutting hair and can do a cut similar to this (picture 1) on curly hair without making me look like Robert Plant (picture 2). I've been poring over local salon pictures and reviews, and they all seem to focus on color (irrelevant). Does this haircut justify more than a Supercuts or Perfect Look visit? I feel a little lost on where to go after unsatisfactory experiences the last few haircuts I spent loads on.

Los Angeles Hair Stylists help!

18d ago

Hello! A bit of context before i ask my question: I’ve been working at a corporate salon that doesn’t take requests in Brentwood. I’m looking to move to a commission salon but haven’t worked in a full service salon since i was an assistant like 6 years ago. Because we don’t take requests, i don’t have a clientele built up. How would you recommend finding a salon to work at? Everything on indeed is like Supercuts or sports clips and that’s even more corporate than the corporate salon I’m at now 😭 I’m hoping for something in weho, Sherman oaks, Burbank or anything in that radius. Any tactics or salons you could recommend would be great!

hair washing

19d ago

My 74 y/o mom isn't bathing regularly these days but says she gives herself a sponge bath a few times a week. She's been super resistant to washing her hair. Isn't really able to do it herself so I've taken her to the local Supercuts, but now says she "doesn't feel strong enough" to even go out of the house. She does have mobility issues, but this is definitely more a mental block than a physical one. It's been weeks since she last washed her hair. How do I go about convincing her that this is something that needs to be done?

Pinnacle of Storage

Sometimes a memory is not as accurate as we would like to believe.  A memory by definition is “the faculty by which the mind stores and remembers information.” The mind stores information, and yet how inaccurate and inconsistent can the mind be?  Through countless wars, genocides, substantial destruction to both infrastructure and the environment, and many other manmade atrocities that required the manipulation of the masses, we have learned how faulty the mind is, and how susceptible it can be to shifting into corruption. You can be raised to have all of these noble morals, all of these ideas that involve betterment for society, love, and general kindness, and structure your ...

Low Hassle Haircut for Non elderly 60s year old woman

22d ago

Hey there. My mom is having a heck of a time trying to find someone who can do anything to her hair. It’s thick, is course, and all she really wants is a lightly layered cut (to keep the puffiness of her hair down as her hair has started to get wavier after menopause) cut to about her shoulders. Simple face framing. But she keeps getting horrible shelf cuts. Nothing feathered or blended. Now, she is going to places like Supercuts but she doesn’t know where to go, and when I get my hair done is a full thing and my hair is NOT her hair. Anyone have any suggestions for a lowkey location for her to get a simple cut?

38F. Childhood trauma relating to haircuts from Asian mom

31d ago

I’m 38F, with a white British father and Thai-Chinese mother. Genetically I inherited my mum’s hair type; straight, very dark (black) with each strand being thick. As a child I really like my hair and preferred it long. There was a time, aged 6, I had my hair cut from waist length to bob. I remember being very sad. During my early years I had a very thick fringe (bangs) as my mum didn’t bother to section properly for the right density. It looked ridiculous. It was also cut above my eyebrows to avoid hair getting into my eyes. Aged 8 I wanted to grow out my fringe but due to the density of it, it was a slow and awkward process, even the hair clips were a struggle to use because of how ...

Aitah for walking out?

32d ago

So let me start off with I have very thick, curly hair with lots of volume already and lots of hair in general. I have been looking for a salon near me since I just moved to this state usually, my mother cuts my hair for me but she lives three states away now so c'est la vie. I set up an appointment at a kind of close salon that had amazing reviews told the stylist I talked to that I needed a stylist who can work with my type of hair and she assured me she had set me up with the best person for my type of hair. So I show up for my appointment a very nice woman took me back to the station I'd be sitting at then my stylist comes over and starts the usual Q&A( what do you wan...

Working 7 hours alone in a chain..?

32d ago

(TW small mention of SA) im a relatively seasoned stylist with at least a few requests in my book every day working at a supercuts. we are extremely short staffed and ive been put on several 7hour shifts Completely alone. none of the other stylists at my salon are doing this. i never get a lunch because of how busy i am and im beyond stressed. i put in my two weeks last week but im still. upset? and i dont know if its justified. when i first started there i was sexually harassed by a customer working alone one night and after that my only request was to not work alone and i feel like im just being taken advantage of. im one of the highest rated stylsts at my salon and ive been there a year ...

Fellow Barbershops/Salons

36d ago

Yesterday, there was a man named Connor going around to all the salons and barbershops claiming to be getting a Mohawk as something his fraternity was doing. He waited until his hair was all parted before claiming that he “left his phone in his car and wanted to grab it to take before and after pictures”. Then he leaves with clips still in his hair and does not return. He hit Mary’s Fades around 12:30pm, then went to Roosters around 1pm, then Li’s Hair Salon at 1:30, then went to SuperCuts and SportClips on Fruitville Pike. He called back today claiming to have had a panic attack and wanted to return clips. Problem is, he has returned all the wrong clips to the wrong people. So if an...

New job search

37d ago

So essentially i (21F) have had it just about with my job at Supercuts. I’ve been doing hair a tad over 2 years now. I don’t mind the work whatsoever, my timing just isn’t making it where they want me to, and i **** feeling like i’m having to rush a client out of my chair. We are given 20 mins for a regular haircut, which is pretty normal, especially compared to other places i’ve heard having 15. I’ve been burnt out of this job and i’m so close to quitting but i know the rational thing is to find a new job and make a smoother transition so im not entirely broke. My manager came to me and stated this fact of my timing not making it after i mentioned moving to a different sa...
