I'll try to keep it moving. My name is on the hospital bracelet on my wrist. I'm not going to post it here. If this goes the way I think it might, there's paperwork coming, and I'd rather my kids see a moderator note before they read their dad's last Reddit post. Give them something small and procedural to hold onto. Nobody wants to find out like this. I woke up this morning — I believe it was morning, the light through the venetian blinds had that particular flat quality of early day, before the sun is actually in the sky but before the dark is truly go... I Found an Abandoned Town on a Forum. Someone There Was Still Crying.8d agoThe thread was buried under four years of inactivity and two pages of spam about a cryptocurrency exchange that had been defunct since 2021. I almost missed it entirely because the original post had been flagged for low effort — no GPS coordinates, directions that assumed you already knew what you were looking for, and photos that had mostly broken into gray error boxes. Three thumbnails survived. One showed a street sign reading BARON in green reflective letters. One showed a pharmacy counter filmed through dusty glass, amber pill bottles still lined up on the shelf behind it. The third was a child's sneaker sitting in the center of a cracked two-lane road with no caption and no expl... I Found an Abandoned Town on a Forum. I've had an old RadioShack turntable for a while that I've fixed a few times. Recently my niece busted the stylus prompting another $65 fix. I've never really loved this one it was just cheap and easy to mess with. At this point I don't want to put more money into it so Ive been all over marketplace trying to find my next move. I've always bought everything used with the goal to learn how to fix stuff rather than throw it away. With a budget of \~$400 I'm trying to decide whether to buy a vintage turntable or a brand new table. Honestly I'm not really an audiophile, and just have a pair of plain edifier speakers connected to a cheap preamp... Garage cleaning finds9d agoFound a few things while cleaning my garage…including a couple of my old business cards. Does anyone remember uniden cordless phones10d agoI know uniden was and still a huge brand in radar detectors but they also had a side project back in the day. They also made cordless telephones I wanted to know if you guys still remembered them because I actually happened to collect uniden because they are my favorite brand for cordless telephones I know that they were sold a lot in radioshack stores before radioshack shut down and radioshack did in fact sell cordless phones that were manufactured by uniden in the photo is my rarest one which is the TRU348. You can't even find a full set on eBay or mercari all you can find is just batteries. Pinewood Fuzz12d agoA local brewery hosted an adult pinewood derby event last weekend. I decided to put a simple one-knob fuzz circuit in mine! 2N3904 bazz fuss on a chunk of 20-year-old Radioshack PCB, with thanks to an old comment thread on this sub recommending a 510K R1 value instead of the widely prescribed 10K. My goals were: 1. Create a car/pedal hybrid that actually functioned, 2. with an onboard 9v battery (at the expense of my car making weight to qualify for the speed competition), 3. be able to see the guts (thanks to my local hardware store for the free off-cut of acrylic panel), and 4. to be able to demonstrate its operation live at the event. I'm proud to say I achieved all 4 goals,... Was there a store called "Computer Craft" in the bay area in the 80s?18d agoI'm working on a project to archive an old PBS show called Computer Chronicles, and am adding all the addresses of all filming locations as metadata. In Episode 315, at 3:10, there is seemingly a store called "Computer Craft". It is very likely that this was filmed somewhere in the Bay Area, as the studio was in San Mateo. Right before they're filming in a RadioShack (which I also am not sure where it is, I assume somewhere around San Mateo). The episode is here: [https://computerchronicles.karpour.net/?ep=315](https://computerchronicles.karpour.net/?ep=315) I can't find anything on a store called Computer Craft existing. Could it be that RadioShacks back th... Content Safety: All discussions are automatically filtered for inappropriate content to ensure a safe browsing experience. |
