There might be a paywall behind the article. This is what it says: Consider the humble video game cartridge. It’s a small, durable plastic box that imparts the most immediate, user-friendly software experience ever created. Just plug it in, and you’re playing a game in seconds. ADVERTISEMENT Please rotate your device ADVERTISEMENTSCROLL TO CONTINUE If you’ve ever used one, you have two men to thank: Wallace Kirschner and Lawrence Haskel, who invented the game cartridge 40 years ago while working at an obscure company and rebounding from a business failure. Once the pair’s programmable system had been streamlined and turned into a commercial product–the Channel F console–by ...

Name a store you and/or your family shopped at that doesn't exist anymore

I'm Gen Z, so here are a few that I can name: (I remember most of these, but some I have no memories of) * Toys R Us * Sears/Kmart (Although they technically still exist, almost all of their locations closed down; I included them together since they're owned by the same company) * Circuit City * CompUSA * RadioShack * Borders * Blockbuster * Hollywood Video * Sports Authority * Bed Bath & Beyond * Conn's (In case you don't know, Conn's was a regional chain that sold things like electronics, appliances, and furniture; they went out of business less than 2 years ago) * Joann Fabrics * Party City * Big Lots (Another regional retailer; a discount store chain tha...

I am working on my kid’s knock off power wheels. This wiring connection broke and I need to figure out what it is in order to order a new one. There are no electronics stores around me like a RadioShack per se where I could just go and look around to match it up so I need to order something off-line. I need to know what they’re called. I’m not sure if it’s a wire connector or what the actual name is for it. Someone in another group suggested it was a molex connector and gave me a serial number that was close but not correct. If anyone could help me out, that would be great or point me in the direction of a store or online store that could help me find a similar product. I’ve also t...

Why does my colecovision look like this?

6d ago

I just bought this colecovision and the retro gaming store gave me a radioshack coaxial cord to use and it looks like this. When i wiggle the cord connecting to the console it affects the picture and gets worse. Do i need a new coax cord or is it the system? If i need a new cord can someone recommend a good one to get.

This is one of my better finds from the bins Update: Streamed on 5/12/202. Lots of music videos, some RadioShack commercials, and fun skits. I'll be cutting out the music videos and posting the rest to YouTube. Full version will be on archive.org by the end of the week. Stay tuned

I Woke Up in an Abandoned Hospital With a Revolver on My Chest and a Letter From My Wife Explaining Why

I'm typing this on a phone with eleven percent battery left, so if this cuts off midway, that's why. I'll try to keep it moving. My name is on the hospital bracelet on my wrist. I'm not going to post it here. If this goes the way I think it might, there's paperwork coming, and I'd rather my kids see a moderator note before they read their dad's last Reddit post. Give them something small and procedural to hold onto. Nobody wants to find out like this. I woke up this morning — I believe it was morning, the light through the venetian blinds had that particular flat quality of early day, before the sun is actually in the sky but before the dark is truly go...

I Found an Abandoned Town on a Forum. Someone There Was Still Crying.

The thread was buried under four years of inactivity and two pages of spam about a cryptocurrency exchange that had been defunct since 2021. I almost missed it entirely because the original post had been flagged for low effort — no GPS coordinates, directions that assumed you already knew what you were looking for, and photos that had mostly broken into gray error boxes. Three thumbnails survived. One showed a street sign reading BARON in green reflective letters. One showed a pharmacy counter filmed through dusty glass, amber pill bottles still lined up on the shelf behind it. The third was a child's sneaker sitting in the center of a cracked two-lane road with no caption and no expl...
