Went to the fish store but the tank did not have a label for this guy it looked like he was eating some algae which I would love for my Severum tank

I set up a tank and let it sit for 3 weeks. I only tested ammonia during that time since the fish store near me was out of the complete set. I put 3 cories in and one has died. I've been testing since I got them. Current levels are ph 7 ammonia ~.2 nitrite 2 and nitrate 6. I've started doing daily water changes. Is daily water changes the only way to save them, and get the cycle going?

I work at a retail pet store and do my best to keep these fish happy and healthy. I ordered some assorted nerite snails this week as we were getting low, and was horrified at what arrived. For those who don’t know, this isn’t natural. These snails have been dipped in acid, which strips the outer layer of their shells in order to give them a white shell.
