After pouring new and re-pouring used and damaged plastic baits for a few years I've noticed some things about the colors and the way they can 'bleed' of even transfer from the bait it's poured into to a different bait entirely by storing it with baits of different colors. I bought some new plants from my local fish store today and these little guys were hitchhiking on them. They are now in the bucket I used to soak the plants in before I put them in my tank. Hi! Pretty much as the title says- my 75 gallon planted tank has been hit with a sudden, quick spreading bout of black beard algae. This is my first time dealing with it in my years of fishkeeping, and also my first time managing a tank of this size. Right now, my tank is fully planted (java fern, anubias, anacharis, jungle val) and is home to my 3 fancy goldfish, 1 sweet & shy bristlenose pleco, and an assortment of snails (ramshorn, nerite, mystery). The pleco and snails have been helping a little bit, but the algae is growing faster than they can eat it. I have a container water garden in front of my house. In order to not have mosquito soup, I add a goldfish or rosy red minnow (both are commonly sold as feeder fish in pet stores). But I have less than great luck keeping them alive, and I would prefer not to doom any more fish than I have to. I think some of them may be victims of stray cats, which I can't do much about, but there may also be water quality issues.
