what type of screw can go into plastic panel and secure with no rear access?

4h ago

Hi all Just a quick one. We have a crappy shower thing which has a fixed shower head up top and a hand held shower bracket half way down. the unit is made of plastic and mounted on the wall. Apologies in advance for not knowing the names of the things :( The bracket broke off so want to replace it, but the previous bracket was secured via 2 (4mm or 5mm) screws with a screw on fastener from behind. Having removed this and the fasteners fell out through the bottom, I want to mount the bracket again but don't have access behind the holes. Is there a type of screw that can go in and secure from behind the plastic panel that I can grab from toolstation or whatever? AI told me to look for ...

“Easy Fit” Metal Fence/Railing Kits

7h ago

I’ve seen a few of these easy fit railing kits where you run a spike between the railings to secure it in the ground. I’m looking to create a play area for the toddler on the patio this spring and thought the system is reasonably priced and easy to fit. Here is one: https://www.toolstation.com/apollo-easy-fit-fence-panel/p59206 I’m looking to install half of it on sandstone paving and half of it in the grass. The grass should be easy as it will hammer into the ground. For the sandstone, I’m thinking of grinding out a 5cm square, driving the spike down and then adding cement for the last 15cm or so for extra strength. Thoughts on these systems?

Cistern fixing/screws

1d ago

What screw kits would you recommend for securing a close coupled cistern to the wall? Wall is brick/pb\*/T&G cladding. Feel like I am having a special moment, or being indecisive, a lot of kits appear to be for the pans and the couple of cisterns I've previously had to remove for repair the wall screws have been rusted. Screwfix, Toolstation and city plumbing are my nearest. Also anyone else **** having to align and then tighten the seat, especially the crunch as it tightens? \*I think we had the solid wall overboarded, honestly can't remember now.

Kitchen cupboard hinge repair plate

1d ago

My kitchen cupboard door wasn’t straight and the holes were knackered so I got these hinge repair plates from screwfix. But now the cupboard door seems to have dropped more and I’ve tried adjusting and can’t get it straight for the life of me. Do I need to use both repair plates on both hinges or can you just use one on the loose hinge? Any other advice?

1/4" or 6mm screws?

1d ago

Afternoon all, I have needed to replace the garage door lock but on sawing down the spindle to fit, I find the screws too long now. Would be easier for me to replace with shorter screws than sawing these down too, should I assume the screws provided are metric or imperial? https://www.toolstation.com/sterling-garage-door-handle/p84559 Cheers

Rad rails on fancy TRVs

5d ago

Hi all I’m going to be swapping out the rad for a fancy once. I’m looking what I need to purchase to get the rad tails to reach the TRVs. In the past when I’ve swapped one out before, the pipes only just reach with a bit of persuasion and I’d rather avoid having to do this again. Can anyone tell me what I need to buy from Screwfix/Toolstation to extend the rad tail and for it to fit on my fancy TRVs. For reference the trvs are product code 724YU on Screwfix.

What do I need to do before skim coating over brown plasterboard paper

5d ago

\*The photo is before i got most of the wallpaper removed and filled those holes Ive removed some wallpaper or lining paper or whatever it was. It has exposed the brown paper on the plasterboard. I seem to be getting varying ideas on what to do before i skim over it from an internet search. The google AI thing is saying do a coat of Zinser Gardz - which will take a day for me to get where I am, (not in screwfix/toolstation), that’s ok but i’d like to get on with the job today ideally. Apparently PVA is no good?

Low water level in both upstairs and downstairs toilet bowls

7d ago

Hi, As stated - the water level is low in both my upstairs and downstairs toilet bowls. They flush fine etc, and cistern levels are ok, so I assume it could be a blockage in the plumbing air vent? Toilet bowl water is a couple of inches lower than normal. Is it worth buying a proper toilet plunger (Screwfix/Toolstation do one for about £17), and trying that in both bowls? I poured water (slowly) into downstairs bowl and level went up in the bowl, but then eventually recedes. Downstairs toilet bowl water receded even more over night - Upstairs one stayed same (low level), but that toilet is used and flushed overnight, whereas downstairs aint used after 10 pm till morning. The plumbing ai...

Creaking noises - wrapping in hairfelt? Recommendations?

7d ago

1930s semi detached - ripped out some floorboards. Can see the heating pipes are rubbing at each other at some spots as well as on some joists. Did some research and looks like it’s best to use some wrapped felt and perhaps some J&J baby powder? If so, any recommendations for felt please? Just want to make sure it’s not flammable if that’s possible. Checked on screwfix, toolstation, they only have the sleeve type (for new installations), can’t find any wrap around felt type. Thanks!

Sink/Washing Machine Waste Fitting

7d ago

Good Evening Peeps, Following on from my previous post, I have purchased this to connect my sink, washing machine and dryer to the waste pipe from the wall. After fitting it (or at least trying to), with the new dual spigot element it is not aligning with the waste pipe from the wall. There is as you can see in the image a gap of roughly 5cm between the trap and the 90 degree bend. The trap is 40mm, could one of you kind people link me to a Screwfix or Toolstation part/s I need to fit in the gap?

What screw is this?

8d ago

Hi everyone This is off a curtain bracket pole that secures the pole to the bracket. It looks like it's an M5 (or m4.5) by 16mm. I've been to Screwfix, bandq and Toolstation none of their screws work. The threads are different. Can anyone help please? Thanks!

Toilet bowl water level low in both upstairs and downstairs toilets - UK

9d ago

Hi, I have noticed recently the water level in the upstairs and downstairs toilet bowls is low. I noticed in the downstairs toilet that the level went down even further overnight. (Havent noticed it in upstairs toilet, though this is used overnight by family so keeps being flushed overnight whereas the downstairs one isnt flushed all night). They have been like this for a week or so now. Wet n windy weather too, will that affect anything? They flush fine etc. just that the water level in bowls is lower than normal. Will it be a blockage in the plumbing air vent (the grill that is meant to cover the top of the plumbing air vent on the roof has been missing for many years, but never had any i...

Plug-in heaters: Oil vs Convector vs Panel vs Fan?

9d ago

Hi all, Layperson here with no Electrician knowledge so please be gentle! What would you recommend in terms of temporary standing heaters? I'm wondering what you find to be: \-Most energy efficient in terms of cost of running \-Most likely to last several years/most durable investment \-Best for the planet \-Safety \-Overall cost in terms of value for money e.g. buy something cheap that will be dead in a month vs more expensive but will last years My boiler has gone bust, mains pipe burst with water escape and electrics cut out. Electrics have now been given the all-clear (in my novice language, i understand it's a modern fuse box which cuts out quickly). Mains water is no...

Merchant VS high street pricing differences

12d ago

Probably more of a rant really but has anyone else been experiencing a significant difference in pricing between a merchant and just walking into Screwfix, B&Q toolstation? I've had accounts for over a decade at some merchants but finding screwfix are significantly cheaper. I thought the whole point of merchant trade discount was to get..discounts! I understand timber as you generally get better quality from a timber merchant, but things like sockets, switches, standard radiators etc. Rad price from plumbing/heating merchant came to £116 with the fittings, Screwfix came to £69 with fittings. When buying a lot it adds up and im just getting frustrated constantly having to que...

Help with Sink trap for Washing Machine

12d ago

Howdy peeps - First time dabbler in plumbing and totally clueless I recently moved into a new home where the sink in the utility room was blank (clearly after the sellers removed their washing machine). I have attached the washing machine using a mix of adaptors I already had and ones that were left but it is leaking. Who'd have thought... Pic 1 is how it is setup at the moment and it is leaking on the white screw element on the right side (not the grey pipe with the jubilee but where that section meets the white pipe. Given this is old and only has 1 spigot anyway (i want to attach my dryer too so need 2 spigots) I am trying to use the fitting in Pic 2 which is the right...

Under cabinet strip lighting

16d ago

I'm looking to get some strip lighting under my kitchen cabinets. Most probably these as i can change the colours. https://www.johnlewis.com/philips-hue-solo-smart-essential-light-strip-3m/p112136674?s_ppc=2dx_mixed_home_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20151162426&gbraid=0AAAAAD2el1zSCXm6L6FVdqoCMxHFrIqh4&gclid=Cj0KCQiAvOjKBhC9ARIsAFvz5lgUio-BEJdocEe3HeQMllNl8E7vOFui-fRx1Owc_MSL94bJdwcgMAoaAnxOEALw_wcB#ratings-reviews-section And then feed them through something like this https://www.toolstation.com/sensio-aluminium-profile/p87128?store=FK&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=feed...
