Anyone know any decent places for good quality fresh produce?

I’m tired of bland polystyrene veggies from Tescos and looking for good quality fresh produce. Have been recommended Coventry Market, does anyone know any other good spots?

Is Warpaint where Lotus Bakeries was in 2006/2007?

7d ago

Lotus Bakeries is one of Europe’s great branded-consumer compounding stories. At the end of 2000, Lotus had a market value of about €42m and a year-end share price of €56. By the end of 2025, its market value had reached about €6.4bn, roughly 150x before dividends. Over the same period, Lotus also raised its dividend for 25 consecutive years. I wanted to understand whether the ingredients behind Lotus’ subsequent success were actually visible in the early 2000s. At first glance, spotting Lotus early was not obvious. It looked like a small Belgian bakery group with modest growth. But the annual reports did show some useful early markers. In 2002, Lotus had revenue of about €148...

Why are there no chain stores that fix phones on the UK high street?

8d ago

My son dropped his phone yesterday, so I took it to the local phone fixing shop. We have several, but every single one of them also sells vapes, one got busted last week for selling vapes to kids. Another one, my late husband got shut down because he traced his stolen iPad there, phoned the police and they raided it, but it opened again under a slightly different name a week later, and the third one, while we were in there, a guy came in with a bag and said “I’ve got six 17s”, the guy behind the counter said come back in a bit, and nodded at us. They all just feel a bit sketchy and as if you are in the middle of a crime scene. Why hasn’t one of the big companies cornered this mar...

Even a supermarket pension can be life changing.

9d ago

Started this pension when I joined Tesco nearly 4 years ago. I started contributing 7.5% initially, which Tesco matched. Then about 6 months ago I increased my contribution amount to 15%, Tesco won't go higher than 7.5% so in total I'm contributing 22.5% into my Tesco pension. It works out at about £500 to £540 every 4 weeks or there abouts depending on overtime. I understand not everyone in retail is in a position to contribute this much, but for me I live quite a frugal lifestyle so it's possible. Tesco usually gives about a 3% - 5% pay rise each year as well so my total contribution should increase by that amount each year as well. I figure if the market compounds at 8...

Local groceries in Brixton on a budget

11d ago

I’m visiting London and going to be staying in Brixton for about a month this summer and wanted to ask about groceries. I know there’s a Tesco superstore nearby but was curious if there are any things I should def be buying from local stalls or Brixton market. I’m a student so trying to not spend too much but if it’s def cheaper to buy produce or meat or something more locally or just better quality for price, I’d love to know. Thanks!

A list of UK detergents for whites and brights with lipase

12d ago

This is a follow up post to my previous one for dark safe detergents. It is (hopefully) fairly complete, although I'm not claiming to have reviewed every detergent available in the UK. Just.... a lot of them. Like a whole lot. It has been a lot of work and not without risk - like when a bottle leaked OBA containing bubblegum scented stuff all over my clean black clothes at the supermarket. It was at least interesting to see the blue goo down my front fluorescing in the rare sunshine on my way home. But yes, I have been the weirdo roaming the laundry aisles of my local supermarkets, taking pics of every bottle. What can I say, I'm curious and have ~~a lot of free time~~ a lot of r...

How I Stopped Converting Crypto to Fiat-And What I Use Instead

12d ago

Obligatory "this is not financial advice" out of the way: this post is purely about spending crypto, not investing in it. I used to do what most of you probably do. Hold crypto, eventually need to buy something, open an exchange, convert to fiat, wait a day or two, pay the spread, feel slightly annoyed about the whole thing. Eventually I got tired of it and started figuring out what you can actually buy directly with crypto. I've now moved most of my spending off fiat entirely,Not everything. I'll be honest about the gaps. The core insight is simple: gift cards are the bridge most people don't know exists. Thousands of major brands like Amazon, Uber, Airbnb, Stea...

Finance hiring trend at tier-1 B-Schools

15d ago

Imp notes: * You will find exceptions, but they are not the norm. * These trends are consistently observed across Tier-1 campuses. * Demand and supply of candidates at a particular B-School decide your fate * For CITI IA (CA, CMA, or someone with an accounting background is preferred. * A lot of engineers (with or without CFA) get into finance roles. Thinking about a flat in Jackson’s Corner

19d ago

Hi everyone! I’ve been looking at the flats in Jackson’s Corner lately because the location is so central, but I couldn't help noticing that there seem to be quite a lot of them sitting empty. It feels a bit strange for such an iconic building, so I was wondering if anyone here knows if there's a specific reason people seem to be staying away. I’m curious if the noise is a major factor, especially being right by the Tesco and having the After Dark nearby, though I’m not sure how much of a noise-maker the club actually is these days. I’ve also heard some mentions of noise issues coming from Market House just behind the building, so I’d love to know if that’s a genuine...

Some recent pickups

19d ago

2" Grand I picked up at a flea market a few weeks ago. The other 3 and the Stanley book I picked up today from FBM. Thought I was a handplane guy but turns out I am a tiny vise guy. The littlest one is a Goodell-Pratt no663. Jaws are 1 1/4". Unpainted one is a Stanley Sweetheart No.742. The red one is a Tesco which I cannot find any information on.

Why do people shoplift non essential but expensive items?

20d ago

Just back from my local Tesco and saw two guys shoplifting a large amount of coffee. I’ve also noticed many shops now have plastic dividers on items like coffee, high end chocolates, detergents, and other cleaning products. These items are expensive but non essential and not something that a single person consumes a lot of so why are they so targeted by shoplifters? Surely there is not a large market for buying these second hand? Just wondering if any one knows what these items are targeted?

Daily E-Commerce News - Shopify's enterprise uphill battle | Apr 18th, 2026

24d ago

Hi r/talkshopify — here's today's ecommerce news recap from [Talk Shop](https://www.letstalkshop.com/ecommerce-newsletter). >**STAT OF THE DAY:** 60% of India’s e-commerce orders now originate from small cities, according to a recent report from CNBC. This shift toward non-metro markets represents a massive geographic expansion in the country's $250 billion digital economy. For global merchants, this signals that emerging market growth is no longer confined to major urban hubs, requiring localized logistics and payment solutions for tier-2 and tier-3 cities. --- ## Story of the Day **Shopify** is facing a reality check as analysts estimate that less than 10% of ...

A (non-exhaustive) list of UK colour and dark safe detergents with lipase

24d ago

So I've spent more time than is healthy reading this sub over the last few weeks. I first came here trying to solve the problem of persistent scent on a Vinted item, which is another saga entirely, and quickly got ****** in to wanting to understand ALL. THE. THINGS. In my perusing I have frequently seen people in the UK lamenting that there are no decent colour detergents without optical brighteners now that Persil colour has an OBA in it. But I was looking at lots of info on different detergents, and kept seeing those that do have enzymes and no OBA. Anyway, I decided to compile a list of them as a PSA. It is not exhaustive, I'm sure there are many I have never heard or thought ...
