Dating in 40's Rant

14h ago

Dating in your 40's is wild. 90% of women cannot hold a conversation. Those that complain about men not holding conversations bump this percentage up to 95%. Almost every match expects a guy to lead the entire conversation. It's extremely hard to talk to a wall that gives you nothing. When you do talk, you are almost certainly going to unearth that they have no idea what they are really looking for or they are super uninteresting people. Of the decent encounters, I would say 1 and 5 are going to use you for just sex. 3 out of 5 are going to be catfishing you. The remaining will have serious complications that make it hard to date. This entails being too busy, afraid to leave pets...

With children and pets in the house, I pay much more attention to keeping things safe and sustainable.

Since we’ve had children and pets at home, I’ve become much more sensitive to this issue. I used to let things slide, but now I think about it a lot more.

Are bagless robot vacuums good for homes with pets?

20h ago

I have several pets at home, both cats and dogs, so there's always hair on the floor, and a lot of it gets stuck in the carpet. If I don't clean it in time, after a week or two I can literally scrape up a layer of loose fur. My old cordless stick vacuum was annoying because the bin filled up constantly, one full house clean meant stopping to empty it like 3 or 4 times. So now I'm thinking about getting a robot vacuum, but I'm worried about the same issue, I'm afraid the dust bin or dust bag will fill up really quickly. If I have to keep replacing bags all the time, that sounds pricey too. I saw ecovacs has bagless station models where you just empty the bin yoursel...

Recommendation - smoke detector issues

2d ago

UPDATES IN COMMENTS!!!! Original: I have a smart KIDDE smoke detector in the part of my home that has a 25 foot ceiling and the original smoke detectors in all the other rooms of my home. I change the batteries on those all once a year but the KIDDE is a nightmare to reach (fire department has to bring a special ladder) and it has a battery that’s supposed to last 10 years and was put in three years ago by the FD. On Wednesday night and tonight my alarm went off intermittently for two hours. The first night, I was at work 1.5 hours away, I let my wonderful local PD guy in remotely and he checked everything and said it was all ok, no smoke smell, no fire, locked up and left, I got home a...

Want a cat so bad, but should I wait?

2d ago

I really wanna adopt a cat, but my parents don’t allow pets at home right now. I might move out soon for a job, but even then I keep thinking—if I’m not around much, my cat deserves someone who can take care of it just as much as I would, or even better. So for now I’ve been holding off. It doesn’t feel right to get a pet unless I’m 100% sure it’ll always be properly cared for. Am I overthinking this, or does it make sense to wait?

Mental training help

2d ago

what to do if my border Collie loves agility training and physical exercise but doesn't care for mental training except when I sometimes use puzzles or kongs for dinner and the basic lvl 1 puzzle that has 3 layers that can fit 150grams of dry dog food for dinner you get at pets at home and when I use the snuffle matt it requires a lot of encouragement.

Can you help me find this kitten a home?

2d ago

I found Simba at a bus stop. I saw him there multiple times during the day. A tiny little kitten, all alone among people and traffic. I even saw him trying to go onto the street. He was just screaming the whole time. There was no mom or any other kittens around. The first time I gave him food and water, he gulped it down like he hadn’t eaten in days. He had lost his voice from constantly meowing. So I took him to a friend’s home, and in just two weeks he became so loving, cuddly, and obsessed with watching TV. Neither of us can keep him. I already have two cats and a sick mom. My friend lives with his relatives temporarily, who are against having a pet at home, and have only allowed Si...

Enclosure recommendations, please?

3d ago

For a male syrian hamster. No wood frames to avoid chewing out and pee on the wood as they little guy is a BIG chewer of wood and good at escaping. I had the bucatstate cage 2.0 a while ago for my last syrian and found it too flimsy. Is the 3.0 any better. I use 12 inches of bucatstate bedding. But any other brand recommendations would be great. If possible, please give responses as soon as possible as this little guy is, in my opinion, in a very dangerous cage and would like to get a decent one ASAP. The cage has bars he chews, too small for a decent wheel let alone any enrichment and the tubes are too small for him he can barely fit in them but I can't remove them as they attach on ...

Sometimes being antisocial and cold has its advantages, especially in the face of sad moments

3d ago

At home we received a call, a few hours ago, it was my brother, 5 years younger than me, I'm 36 (he lives with his partner, they live together and have their own place) to let us know they took the dog to the vet. To "put him to sleep," if you get what I mean... he was already very old and was really sick and had been blind for years. The news devastated my other brother, almost 17. He started crying immediately like I hadn't seen him do in years. That dog had been "ours" before (even though I had always been against the idea of having pets at home, especially since everyone works or is at school). But when my other brother got together with his girlfriend, th...

Need advice as a new bunny owner

3d ago

I want to say I saved this bunny from Pets at Home because i’ve heard crappy things about that place and they made me buy a cage or I couldn’t have her. My bunny, Dany, is super chill and free roams around my room and I have stuff coming like a proper hiding place, bed, and other things coming so she can stay free roaming in my room but my question is: is it okay if I’m still using that cage? I only close her in there when I need to hoover and, as of last night, sleep. She seems content in there, lays in there and sleeps in there comfortably. Through out the day I leave one side open so she can run around my room, lay on my bed or the spot on the floor she seems to love. Is it okay th...

Hamster adoption suggestions

4d ago

Me and my girlfriend temporarily took in a little Robo hamster which was meant to be short term, but we've ended up stuck with him. The problem is, he is currently in just a pets at home hamster cage (not a tiny square wire one, but definitely not adequate), and in the flat there is simply no space for another proper sized hamster enclosure, and so we need to get him to someone who will be able to look after the boy properly. Does anyone know what's the best bet for getting him to someone who's actually going to be able to provide him proper hamster care in a big enough enclosure? We're in Suffolk, England, if that helps

Bo advice

So I've just started the hobby of keeping a ball python for the first time, I've kept lizards like bearded dragons etc but not snakes. So I bought a 4x2x2 wooden vivarium with sliding glass I gave her two hides one for the hot side and the cold side as I was advised BUT I didn't know what substrate to buy so I went to my local pets at homes and bought Aspen wood and as you could probably tell that didn't go to plan, there was mold everywhere after misting like 3 times a day for 3 weeks straight. So I removed all the Aspen wood so now it's just the bare vivarium wood and her hides, water bowl and some sticks so she can climb on. I've placed some wet ish paper t...

AIO about my wife potentially costing me a job?

4d ago

My (38F) wife (35F) and I drove to a town 2 hours away for a last minute interview for a tenure track position for me. It’s April and if you know you know that now is a pretty late time to get a job offer teaching university for the fall. But I have not had any bites besides this one and I am humanities. My contract at my current college is over. I’m the breadwinner and we NEED this job. It would also need we need to pack up and move. Our lease is ending in June and we NEED ANSWERS. Okay so to the issue. My wife (let’s call her Claire) drove with me and since we were in the same state they didn’t provide hotel. So Claire waited in the Panera on campus. After the interview the dean a...

Dog eating his own poo

4d ago

Desperately needing help or advice with this one. We have a nearly two year old male Dachshund. He’s not neutered (if that matters). And pretty much as the title says, he continuously eats his own poo. I know the obvious answer to this is just ‘lift it as soon as he goes’ which believe me I have tried, but as soon as I go back inside and do whatever I need to do, he does another one and eats that. I don’t mean nibbles it, I mean hoovers the entire log down. I can’t sit and watch him the entire time he’s out in the garden, and he always seems to wait until I’m away before he eats it. He obviously knows he shouldn’t eat it because I’ll shout out to him. Thats why he’s w...

Best Walk Behind Floor Sweeper For Tile Floors —You Would Never Regret

4d ago

I went down a rabbit hole trying to find a simple, no-fuss way to keep my tile floors clean (without dragging out a vacuum every day), and honestly… there are some surprisingly solid walk-behind sweepers out there. If you’re considering one, this guide breaks it down way better (with examples and what works for different spaces): 👉 [https://xcellenthomes.com/best-walk-behind-floor-sweeper-for-tile-floors/](https://xcellenthomes.com/best-walk-behind-floor-sweeper-for-tile-floors/) Here are the few that actually stood out to me: 1. Bissell Natural Sweep Super lightweight and eco-friendly—no electricity needed 👉 Best for: quick daily cleanups in small apartments ❌ Not great w...
