iPhone 13 mini calls breaking up on WiFi and cellular = hardware issue?

1d ago

I bought a used iPhone 13 mini (for my wife) from an Amazon Marketplace seller in October. (I'm in the UK) The issue has been ongoing: calls break up intermittently but often enough to be really annoying. This happens: • On WhatsApp calls over WiFi • On normal mobile calls • On O2 mobile data • On strong WiFi (I’m hardwired via ethernet at work and the WiFi at home is solid) • In different locations I’m also on O2 with another phone and that phone works fine in the same environments, so I don’t think it’s a network issue. It feels device-specific, that is my strong hunch. Signal strength appears normal. The call doesn’t drop entirely — audio just bre...

Got connected to PLMN 311 588 (USCC IoT)

2d ago

Connected by using Pronto Mobile which runs on O2-UK, the carrier name means: UScellular-Virtual Evolved Packet Core-Machine to Machine The 5G (n71 @ 20MHz) was coming from T-Mobile MOCN and the LTE was coming from MOCN too, as U.S. Cellular never operated in the area that I’m in right now, but for some reason they enabled all of USCC’s PLMNs across the state even if they never operated in a area Thought this was cool ok mmwave beta 🚨🚨🚨🚨😳😳😳😳😳 I can’t connect to 311589 tho😢😢😢😢🤬🤬🤬🤬

Technical Update: Enhanced 5G SA n28 (700MHz) Detection

9d ago

# Technical Update: Enhanced 5G SA n28 (700MHz) Detection Published: February 2026 | Developer: **theBFGuk** # The Problem: Frequency Overlap A common hurdle in mobile network diagnostics is the **700MHz spectrum**. Because this frequency is shared between legacy 4G (Band 28) and modern 5G (n28), many Android devices and diagnostic tools incorrectly default to LTE terminology, even when connected to a **5G Standalone (SA)** core. # The Engineering Fix I have overhauled the internal mapping logic to prioritize **NR-ARFCN** (New Radio Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number) verification over standard broadcast strings. This ensures that users on UK networks like **O2** and **Vod...

Unable to open a new SIM only contract - 1000 "Excellent" Experian credit rating

9d ago

Here in the UK, been trying for around 5 hours now, 2 hour last night online and 3 hours today on the phone to the help desk in Cape Town South Africa, to open a SIM only 12 month contract. I need to move to O2 network because EE is keeps letting us down. O2 is twice the price of TescoMobile. And my primary grocery supplier, that I have used for 40 years and before that my mum used for years, will not let me buy this piddling little SIM card. We spend around £500 a month in their stores, using these cards. Have £25 in vouchers in my Clubcard account. A week ago I even bought a Tesco car insurance policy, paid by the same credit card!!! My current account (direct debit source)...

Vodafone Investment Thesis

Vodafone Investment Thesis Current Price (2H FY26): $14 FY28 PT: \~$25 The Thesis in Brief: Vodafone has successfully transitioned from a distressed conglomerate into a disciplined, growth-focused connectivity platform. The market is currently pricing VOD on backwards-looking metrics; fixated on the painful German MDU transition and historical debt bloat. This creates a dislocation. This view identifies three mispriced levers that will drive a re-rating in FY27 and continued multiple expansion beyond. Germany Turns the Corner: The operational drag from the TV Law change is fully priced in. FY27 represents the first clean year of EBITDA growth in the core German market. The "S...

Unlimited plan for international use

34d ago

Hi Guys, This might be a little unique situation. So I live in both the US and the UK (I split my time between both countries) and I also have a sim only (US equivalent of prepaid) in the UK and a AT&T prepaid sim for the US. They are both E-Sims on my 17 Pro Max. I’m currently paying $40 a month with AT&T and was told MintMobile is offering the 12 month unlimited plan for $180 upfront. Now my main use of my US number while I’m abroad is to receive text codes for 2FA/MFA for work related logins for US side applications that we host, I wanted to know that would the unlimited plan allow me to receive these messages while in the UK? I’m not interested in using data etc w...

More than 30 mobile masts upgraded to boost rural 4G in Scotland

47d ago

The Shared Rural Network (SRN) is a jointly-funded programme by the UK government and mobile network operators EE, Virgin Media, O2 and VodafoneThree. A total of 105 mobile masts have been upgraded across the UK - 33 are in Scotland, in areas like the Highlands and the Borders. Up to 44 more new masts are planned for Scotland before January 2027. Telecoms Minister Liz Lloyd said the investment would help rural areas "attract the investment, jobs and tourism they need to thrive." The areas where the masts have been upgraded include Dumfries and Galloway, the Borders, the Highlands, Argyll and Bute, Ayrshire and Angus. It has been estimated that the masts across the UK will bring...

Issue using roaming in Prague

48d ago

Hi, I joined 1p mobile recently and went with an eSIM since the option was available. It worked perfectly fine in the UK, but now that I’m in Prague trying to use my data roaming, I only get edge and don’t have 4g. I tried manually changing the network to O2 and Vodafone but it didn’t help. Does anyone have any ideas on what the issue might be? Is it cause the esim option is new and therefore has some issues? I also tried to check my APN settings based on online suggestions but it seems like the APN settings aren’t available for my 1p sim (I can see the APN settings for my Three sim. Any suggestions on how I could fix this would be really appreciated.

Help with cellular setup for child

51d ago

So I bought my daughter an SE3 cellular (UK) and I can’t for the life of me figure out how on earth to get an eSIM up and running. I’ve set her up with a child Apple ID, and set the watch up for a child. So far so good. But when I try to add an eSIM, it tells me that my current O2 carrier isn’t compatible… which is odd, because I’m not trying to use MY mobile contract. I want to activate an independent eSIM with its own number on her watch. So she can use it for calls and texts etc, as she doesn’t yet have a phone (holding off as long as humanly possible). I’ve looked around, and the only 2 options that seem to work in the U.K. for Apple’s “Apple Watch For Kids” pro...

What's the best mobile network for mobile data in Scotland? O2/Giffgaff is basically unusable now

63d ago

I've been with Giffgaff for over a decade now, but after Huawei were ordered to decommission all their equipment across the UK, my mobile data signal has dropped off a cliff and it looks like O2 has no immediate plans to fill the gaps . I have a 90 minute daily commute in the morning and I'd say that for approx. 80% of the journey nothing will load. Even at my place of work all our Ingenico card payment terminals have had to be replaced because they all stopped working due to loss of or no signal. I've have, with genuine sincerity, been to developing countries that have a better mobile network than the UK right now and it's embarrassing. What is everybody using...

Is this normal?

74d ago

I’ve just moved over to Lebara from O2, got a cracking sim only deal for Black Friday. Is this normal that you have to change settings yourself? I’ve changed carriers numerous times over the last 25+ years and have never had to manually change any settings on my phone.

Advice on LTE and 4G (Samsung Galaxy S22)

82d ago

Hi, Please can someone help 😀 See 1st photo - on my Samsung Galaxy S22, there is no reference to 4G in the preferred network drop-down. It also says: "Use LTE data networks for calls whenever possible". My partner's phone (2nd pic) says" "Use 4G data networks for calls whenever possible", and 4G is on the drop-down. Same phone (Samsung Galaxy S22), same network/provider (Tesco Mobile in the UK, which uses the O2 network). Is this a problem? Why are they different? Thank you 😊
