Their churn is undeniable, and so is their lack of profitability. Nevertheless, they are hurting everyone. (video in comments) \- Losers: Independent retailers (me). 2025 is for the dogs (pun intended). Business rates, cost of employment, turnover taxes and margin compression are some of the main culprits. \- Winner: [CVS Group UK](https://www.linkedin.com/company/cvs-group-uk/) and the rest of the cartel are undeniable winners after the CMA's investigation. The leverage these big veterinary corporations have is absolutely tremendous. If you're an independent vet, you either sell to them or you HAVE to e... Pets at Home should Be Ashamed Of Themselves24d ago([Jollyes Pets](https://www.linkedin.com/company/jollyes-the-pet-people/) should be too) Selling advent calendars and treats with sugar is bad enough, but 30% less sugar? That's an acknowledgement that they are selling subpar products and do not want to change. Last year, I got a nice corporate message about how they were ''trying to improve the quality of their products and were grateful for the feedback'' and a whole more codswallop. In reality, anything goes in the pet industry. Profit is king even if it means diminishing the quality of life of your customers. Dogs fed more rubbish have more chances of visiting the vet. It's really that... Jollyes Pets is The Most Shameful Pet Business - Using Charity For Promo31d agoIt's unbelievable that they are doing it again. They get customers to buy their own products (Lifestage), in order to then take pictures of their food being delivered to doggy shelters. Just for context: I absolutely want dogs in shelters to get as much food and care as possible. But it's absolutely rotten that they keep making their customers buy their own products so that they can do PR, because that's all this is, PR. [TDR Capital](https://www.linkedin.com/company/tdr-capital/) funds Jollyes by the way, they are private equity, and they have been spending millions and millions of pounds to expand market share, open new stores and fund their operations, it&... Inside a Private-Equity Meltdown: Featuring TDR Capital40d ago[David Lloyds Health Club](https://www.linkedin.com/company/david-lloyds-health-club/), the UK’s most premium Gym and owned by TDR Capital (also owns [Jollyes Pets](https://www.linkedin.com/company/jollyes-the-pet-people/)), could NOT find a buyer, so they had to sell it to…themselves. They failed to sell DLL so they created a new fund and got new investors so they can hold the investment for longer. This is known as a continuation vehicle. In plain terms, a massive private equity circlejerk. A couple days ago, we also learned that [Stonegate Group](https://www.linkedin.com/company/stonegategroup/) (also owned by TDR), owner of Slug and Lettuce, is planning to cut 1,000 booze... Jollyes Fforestfach - Nov 1568d agoI remember seeing a post a few months back about jolleys as there was seemingly no news on when it was opening. For a while it looked like it would never open, but it has now got an opening date of November 15th for those concerned. 💣 Pets at Home is Imploding, But Can They Still Win?79d agoPAH recently ousted their CEO after subpar retail performance. According to [Clayton Payne](https://www.linkedin.com/in/clayton-payne-a6772244/), their shops look tired, outdated, and their offering is rubbish. I tend to agree. PAH is facing increasing competition not only from [Jollyes Pets](https://www.linkedin.com/company/jollyes-the-pet-people/), Amazon or [zooplus](https://www.linkedin.com/company/zooplus-se/), but from [Aldi UK](https://www.linkedin.com/company/aldi-uk/), [Morrisons](https://www.linkedin.com/company/morrisonsjobs/) and the likes of [B&M Retail](https://www.linkedin.com/company/b-m-retail-limited/). Supermarkets and big box retailers have now r... Why Do Pet Companies Market Like This? It's Rubbish Marketing 🤦♂️79d agoWhy Do Pet Companies Market Like This? It's Rubbish Marketing 🤦♂️ ''Feed Your Pet for X per day''. Has to be the most horrible marketing trend in the industry. Why? \- I think it's deceiving. It's impossible for the business to know what kind of dog and energy expenditure the pet parent has. Also, pet parents can't compute how much say £1.29 per day is over a month. \- It's a race to the bottom. Price comparisons devalue your product. Unless you really want to play that game... \- It's the easiest/least creative way to do marketing. Pricing wars? Gives bargain hunter vibes. Just for context, Bella+Duke aren't the on... Pet retail is doubling down on speed + reliability — new delivery & tech tie-ups113d agoThis week's pet news: partnerships pushing speed + reliability in pet retail !! • Arcaplanet × Glovo (Italy) — 30-minute delivery live in Milan, Rome, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Palermo. Glovo notes pet demand up +103% YoY (retail +146%, grocery +85%), with 80% of first-time buyers returning and \~2.4 orders/month. Arcaplanet also piloted Deliveroo earlier this year in Milan. • Jollyes × Uber Eats (UK) — “Zoomies” rapid delivery now in 13 trial stores. Jollyes becomes Uber Eats UK’s first national pet partner. Jollyes has 100+ stores; this complements its own delivery (since 2014). • PetSmart × Skip (Canada) — 15k+ SKUs available via Skip’s network across 450+ ... Anyone heard any news about the Fforestfach Jollyes?119d agoSo I noticed at the beginning of the year that one of the empty units at fforestfach had a Jollyes sticker slapped on the side. At the time the website said it had an opening date of middle of May, there were even job openings for managers and supervisors, but the date came and went and it didn't open. but there was a job opening at the Llanelli store so I called them about it asking when Fforestfach would be opening. They said that there were delays and the new store would be opening end of July, August time. But since then I've noticed that the Fforestfach store has been removed from website completely and no other job openings either. Has anyone heard anything recently? Have... Kupo is wiped today193d agoWe took a trip to a new pet store Lucy's owner told us about called Jollyes, kupo raided the floor for fallen treats. Then I took her for her first walk ever in Worden Park. She spent the first 40 minutes with her nose to the ground and then exploring the woody reserve area. Proceeded across a wooden plank crossing over a brook to which I said nope, that doesnt look secure and my fat arse will break that, so she scampered back across like "fine then human, we will explore the other area" and then zoomies. She is has been having epic dreams ever since, so much so she was playing tap tap on my back with her paws in her sleep last night 🤣 Does anyone think that their town has a worse named event than this?205d agoPet Food / Accessories / Supplies / Insurance285d agoI went down a research rabbit hole so thought I'd share. The information won't be totally perfect, or exhaustive. These just give some ideas and options. They're not all strictly UK recommendations, but since a lot of us are looking to boycott US goods, UK/EU and a dash of Canada is an improvement. If you want to add or correct anything, let me know and I'll edit my post to add info in. # Cat Food [Tippaws](https://www.tippaws.com/) – UK-owned small business. All cat food is made in the **UK**. New Libertadores meta?378d agoLive-service games with relatively small player base that still manage to survive.379d agohttps://preview.redd.it/ycvn34vs3n6e1.png?width=937&format=png&auto=webp&s=6519cf771d77227d8bac033e7c3bfb491abe14a8 https://preview.redd.it/wve08gey3n6e1.png?width=972&format=png&auto=webp&s=5f57242052ff2113b6a0ebd624342467f1b4c5f8 We don’t have data for XDefiant, so I can only assume its player count is similar. If they were able to release new content despite having a relatively low player base. Smite is even getting a sequel next year, which likely means they made enough profit to fund the development of Smite 2. I’m genuinely confused as to why XDefiant can’t do the same. Price to good to be true?392d agoThey're usually £28-£35 ish. Aware there's a lot of fakes on the market but this is a site with 20+ physical shops. Too good to be true? Anyone any advice? Is the Pets At Home VIP Club worth it?398d agoSame deal everywhere you go, you go to the till and they ask if you're in the club. When I was choosing my boy's food I went for Jollyes since they had the brand I wanted and joined their club. Every time I go in for food they give me a one-use 15% voucher for the following month (usually useless when you buy a big bag that lasts 2 months), and occasionally I get a £2 voucher code to use. Other than that I don't see any benefits. Is anyone here in the Pets at Home club? Is it beneficial? Substrate for Isopods & Millipedes541d agoJust wanted to share me making my substrate last night for my new arrivals because I thought some of you might find it helpful x I'm sure everyone who makes their own have their own recipes but this is mine x So first of all I start with coco fibre {about 35-40%} ~ now I know that some of you don't like using it as it doesn't have any nutritional value but I have used it successfully for a number of years for millipedes & isopods & when I first started keeping isopods & millipedes I bought *waaaaaay* more than I needed from the £ Shop because I thought I'd need it... 🙈 To that I added about 10-15% sphagnum moss ~ the moss I used here was f...
