AITA To receive a late birthday gift from my sister

1d ago

I’m the second of five siblings (M: 30 years old, me F: 28, F: 24, M: 22, M: 17), and even though there are four years between me and my sister, we were born just one day apart: me on the 30th and her on the 31st. Because of that, we always celebrate our birthdays together and exchange gifts, even though we are completely different in personality and tastes. At Christmas, I bought gifts for all of my siblings even though I’m unemployed. I used my savings to buy something for everyone: a white chocolate protein cream for my older brother, a €30 Amazon gift card for my younger brothers, and a €40 Sephora gift card for my sister. I love giving gifts, and I believe everyone deserves a p...

Things I’ve learned from shaving - also I’m growing a beard (kinda)

2d ago

I started taking oral minoxidil in April and it’s been working amazingly. It’s May now and this is the second time I’ve shaved, here are some things I’m learning that may or may not be useful: 1) shaving cream is your friend, though conditioner can work in a pinch. Usually you want to use conditioner when shaving other body parts beyond the face, like legs or pits or privates because in my experience it makes me break out with acne a lot more than traditional, well-formulated shaving cream does. I dislike the foam though some guys have a good amount of luck with it. The cream I buy comes in a tube like a hair gel tube and I rub it between my palms to get it to the texture I need it ...

Why isn't there a Mediterranean Skincare category? (genuine question)

2d ago

Hi everyone :) been lurking here for a while and finally posting because I've been thinking about something and I want to bring it to this sub. We have **k-beauty** as a recognized cultural movement, we also have **j-beauty**. We have **French pharmacy** skincare. What i noticed is that each one isn't just a collection of products but also **a category** in the consumer's mind, with shared expectations, recognizable codes, etc. **The mediterranean has every condition** for the same kind of category, like for exemple, some of the highest UV exposure in Europe, a cuisine that's become the global gold standard for healthy living with centuries of olive, citrus, rosemary, a...

Kiwis/Aussies in the UK, where do you cosmetics shop now that you can't go to Mecca?

15d ago

Where am I supposed to shop for makeup/perfume/skincare/haircare and get beauty treatments now that I'm in the UK and the glorious bountiful facilities of Mecca are no longer available? 😔✊️ I dislike Sephora out of principal, but can't find any stores that are remotely close to Mecca's range, just Chemist Warehouse-esque pharmacies and specific single-brand shops. Not really looking for brand recs but more stores that do a shopping experience similar to my local Mecca (Bourke Street)

New HG skin tint for oily skin - Essence Skin Tint

15d ago

Over the past year I've (36F) been decidedly moving away from Mecca and Sephora to pharmacy/supermarket brands (cost of living!) and I've been on the hunt for a unicorn - an oily-skin friendly non-matte skin tint. My skin is so oily it makes "longwear" foundation claims a joke. 32hrs? More like 8, max. Powders, primers and setting sprays only marginally improve the situation. My slip-n-slide of a face will melt it off like hot butter. I'd previously been using Maybelline Superstay skin tint, but the shade was never right and it while it put up a good fight against my oil slick of a face, it never sat right - too much mica I think. On a whim, I randomly picked up t...

Help me create a basic skincare routine for my sister

23d ago

Hey everyone! My little sister is moving out (💔) and I would like to gift her a basic skincare routine. She has combination skin with some occasional pimples due to period/stress, and wears very little makeup (mostly just mascara and concealer). She has no patience for products that leave her feeling sticky or for doing like 7 steps, so I'm looking to keep things basic. Can you help me find some good, buget products that have a nice finish? I'm Italy based and have access to DM/Sephora/Pinalli plus ofc local drugstores/pharmacy. Thank you!

UPDATE: cancelled my wedding and living as a shut in

32d ago

I posted here before, the last post is on my profile if you want to read it. Picked up my medicines from the pharmacy. $235 for differin is CRAZY, but it’s not like I haven’t spent that before on my skin. Everyone encouraged me to just try what the doctor prescribed, so here I am doing that. Some background: \- I have cleared fully from OTC topicals before. I was clear for YEARS from an over the counter Sephora product, but after it was discontinued I was left floundering. I tried everything to recreate the effects of it by getting the same ingredients from other products in the same routine but it never worked. Whatever that formulation was, that was GOLD for my skin, and nothing els...

My Jan-March empties

Oh boy! So happy to finally see this. Here’s a mini review for each product: -Summer Fridays Mineral Milk Sunscreen: My holy grail, hands down. I’ve been using it for three and a half years and keep coming back to it after trying other sunscreens. Just be cautious if you’re allergic to niacinamide. -Eucerin Eczema Relief Cream: The only cream that calmed my dry body skin. I’ve already repurchased it. -Fresh Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence: Lovely texture with a faint rosy scent. It was a nice morning step, but I won’t repurchase—it didn’t do much long-term, it’s pricey, and I’d like to try Korean toners and essences instead. -Laneige Cream Skin Toner: Nice texture and...

Perioral Dermatitis sufferers or those who struggle with actives - what are the best products you've used for aging...

48d ago

Hi all, I'm 39 years old, 1 year postpartum, and my skin is dry like an autumn leaf 🍁 Essentially, I've run out of every bottle, used every free sample and now have ZERO skincare left - I desperately need to buy more, but am ready for a routine refresh and completely overwhelmed with what to buy. I have suffered with Perioral Dermatitis for years (although my skin was lovely while I was pregnant!) and haven't had much luck with any kind of active, they really seems to flare my PD. Overall I have very delicate, sensitive skin prone to lots of texture reactions to products. I am now seeing lots of fine lines, and alot of crepey-ness in my neck 🦃 Because of the above, I&...
