It is meant to be an alternative to excel + email threads. A single source of truth for everyone and less chaos to run the community for the admins. I'm a casual hiker who doesn't have lots of fancy hiking gear yet, but I found that a good old 100% wool knitted sweater found in a thrift store has been such a good mid layer to go hiking as well as for my job in construction when it gets cold. They are nice and warm, but still breathable and can get a little wet while staying warm. The downside is that as soon as wind picks up you get cold, but as long as you wear an outer layer you're fine.
