Apartment with Metro and Large Shopping Mall?

3h ago

Hi guys, New to HK here. My wife and I are looking to rent a newish 700sqf+ (70m2) apartment with budget around $40k per month max. We value close proximity to MTR and large shopping mall (e.g. supermarkets, cinemas, department stores, wide range of restaurants); ideally, we won't need to venture outside for daily needs. Bonus, 20mins max public transport to Admiralty. Where would you suggest?

Mum was overcharged they won’t refund full amount back

4h ago

My mum purchased one steak. The cashier made a mistake scanned it twice she went in. They refunded only 750 rather than $9. Their excuse was she had a received a Coles offer of -$3. She should’ve been charged $70.35 minus the $3 Coles offer which they said it was a Flybuys offer but the doesn’t state that and it’s not related to the steak purchase in particular the manager on the phone would not explain other than we can’t do it because there was an offer. Does anyone else have any insight into this matter? Pretty annoyed because my mother is elderly and she went back to sort this out and I feel like Coles is just ripping their customers off at every chance .

Ready to eat food from supermarket

5h ago

Some supermarkets have ready to eat food. This varies from branch to branch. Hence this post asking where you've liked something from a supermarket bakery, deli or hot food. Came to mind because over the years they have tried a few things and some work and others don't. Also location based as if they are near places where people stop to buy lunch or dinner while working nearby etc. There's sometimes a standard recipe used though some places allow them to use their own recipe. That's why the pies that won pie awards that were from a supermarket did state which store they are from, not just chain but the specific branch. Some places are too small for their own bakery o...

Finally did that solo trip to Japan I've been dreaming of: (Here's how I navigated it all on a tight budget) ...

Alright, so after years of "someday" and scrolling through endless perfect Instagram shots, I finally pulled the trigger on that solo Japan trip. And honestly, the biggest takeaway wasn't some mystical epiphany, but simply this: **you don't need a huge budget or a travel buddy to have a deeply fulfilling experience there.** The myth that Japan is unaffordable for solo travelers? *Totally debunked*. I landed back home with my bank account still relatively intact and a head full of genuine memories. Here’s how I actually navigated it, budget and all: ### The Nitty-Gritty: My 12-Day Solo Japan Budget Breakdown I aimed for an average of **¥8,000 JPY (approx. $50-55 USD)...

AVOID PACKAGED FOOD AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! Old products with changed expiry dates being sold again in the market, AN AVERA...

6h ago

I’VE A FRIEND WHO WORKS AT SWIGGY AND HE INFORMED ME THAT SUCH TAMPERING IS COMMON PRACTICE AT INSTAMART, ZEPTO AND BLINKIT. There are increasing discussions online about expired packaged products allegedly being relabeled with new expiry dates and resold in the market. Most of us grab snacks from local shops, supermarkets, or online stores and rarely inspect the packaging carefully. But situations like this raise an important question about how aware consumers are about expiry dates, packaging seals, and product freshness. Just got back from a month in Eastern Europe: Here's how to actually do it without breaking the bank (think hostels...

8h ago

I just spent a month bouncing around Eastern Europe (Poland, Hungary, Czechia) for less than what I'd typically spend on rent for two weeks in a major US city. Hostels, local buses, *zero* tourist traps. 🎒 Look, I was laid off last fall. The idea of "traveling" felt like a cruel joke when every guide screamed "luxury experiences!" I was determined to see if I could actually *do* a real trip without selling a kidney. This isn't a "hack life" post, just what worked for me. **The Grand Total (Roughly):** All in, including transatlantic flights (snagged cheap, months out), I spent just under **$1800 for the entire month**. That's flights, accommo...

HAHA Vending February and how to

9h ago

First gotta say sorry for removing my other posts, didn't think you guys would be that into it. I didn't want to continue that with my personal account. And for some reason my Business account was banned. No warning, No notices. No feedback from Reddit. So here we are... Third Time's the charm. This is how my February ended, I am not asking for suggestions on prices or anything. Comment if you want but I price based on the location/what I feel comfortable charging. That said, I'm willing to answer EVERYTHING all over again and try to make it easier to reference. My wife is the brains behind the operation, honestly I'd sign it all over to her in a heartbeat and it&...

The Supermarket That Closes at 1:17 AM

9h ago

The first time I saw the supermarket, I thought I had simply forgotten it was there. It sat between a closed hardware store and an abandoned bus stop on Cedar Road, glowing under harsh fluorescent lights that hummed like trapped insects. The sign above the entrance flickered weakly — OPEN 24 HOURS — though no one I asked could remember it ever opening. No grand opening banners. No delivery trucks. No employees coming or going. Just a building that seemed to have always existed. The strange part was that people argued about it. Some swore it had been there for years. Others insisted the lot had been empty only days before. A few people refused to even look at it when they walked past,...

Journal Entry : February 15th, 2026

9h ago

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. I did get sad throughout the day, and was looking forward to going to Publix alone so I could cry in the car but my mom said she wanted to go to Ross...so I had to take her. I didn’t want to go shopping, I just wanted to grab what I needed from the grocery store and go home. I ended up finding the comforter set I was looking for, so now I just have to get curtains and a peg board for my room. It made me realize how far I’ve come since the breakup. I moved back into my parents house, bought all the furniture I needed and built it. I also need to put up my diplomas, maybe I’ll work on that tomorrow since we don’t have school. I need to rearrange some...

DeLillo’s supermarket was a prototype of the algorithmic feed

10h ago

Ive been rereading *White Noise* this past month and I started wondering whether the supermarket scenes are actually describing something structurally similar to the modern algorithmic feed. The store produces a continuous stream of stimuli optimized for engagement — colors, slogans, promos — but it’s broadcast to everyone equally. In that sense it feels like a pre-digital engagement system before personalization existed. I wrote a longer argument connecting this to Terror Management Theory and social media recommendation algorithms, but I’m curious first if anyone has seen scholarship making this connection? Thanks for the time to any readers.

The Grocery Wars - Would you take up arms for your local supermarket?

10h ago

I saw a map of most popular grocery stores by state, and thought "what if we had a civil war based on this?" A week later I came up with this. I looked at which stores were most common, which were most "popular", and then general distribution for 30+ chains to come up with the borders, which i smoothed out along natural features that would serve as decent borders/entrenched battle lines. I've also omitted most nationwide chains assuming they more or less got stretched too thin/don't have enough regional identity to take regional control.

FairPrice sold me expired food and told me I must travel back to the same outlet for a refund — is this normal policy?

12h ago

I wanted to check with the community if this is normal practice or if others have experienced something similar. On 28 Feb 2026 at about 12.30pm, I bought 2 packets of Chwee Song herbal tea from FairPrice at Kitchener Complex. They were selling at $4.02 each, regular price (not clearance or discounted). When I got home and was about to brew one packet, I realised both packets had already expired in December 2025. I lodged feedback through FairPrice’s online portal immediately. At 1.41pm, I received a reply asking me to return to the same outlet for a refund or exchange. The issue is that the outlet is not near my home, so I replied explaining that I would have to incur transport costs...
