The Flavor of the Caribbean: A Guide to Living Quintana Roo Like a Local

1h ago

The most common mistake people make when stepping off the plane in Cancun is believing that the region's gastronomy is limited to what the big resorts offer. To truly **eat like a resident in Quintana Roo**, you have to find those hidden corners where the *aguachile* has just the right kick and the tortillas come off the *comal* steaming hot. If your goal is to **avoid tourist traps in Quintana Roo** and immerse yourself in an **authentic Mexico experience**, you need to navigate these flavors with intention.   **Breakfast: The Pulse of the Morning** In Mexico, breakfast is an energy ritual. Forget about a light snack; here, we look for the soul of corn and salsas that wake up the ...

True Blood Spin Off: Chapter 1

1h ago

I moved to a new town called Bon Temps in the Renard Parish of Louisiana. A new start was just what I needed and I loved the south. My house I just bought was an old farmhouse with the perfect red barn to house my aniamls. I had cattle, chickens and plenty of horses. I had a lot of work to do. After a few weeks of getting everything moved in and all the aniamls settled into thier new home, I became lonely and wanted to explore. I also needed a job to make it here on my own. So, I hopped in my car and drove down to a bar that evening that I saw a few days ago. It was called Merlotte's Bar and Grill and seemed like a nice country place to get to know people and possibly land a waitress...

Long John Silver's gets unwarranted **** and is actually very good

1h ago

So I was on the phone with my girlfriend today, she was asking me what she should get for dinner and, jokingly, I said Long John Silver's. She laughed and the convo went on and then I told her I was starting to get hungry and I didn't know what to make, then she swung the Long John Silver's suggestion right back at me. Now, maybe I'm whipped, whatever, but I thought I'd make her day so I headed out to go try it. I ordered the variety platter thing because I didn't know what to get. A little expensive but honestly dude, I enjoyed the **** out of everything in there and her mind was blown when I told her that. The fish and chicken (especially the chicken) was c...

Help choosing a urinary care wet food

2h ago

My cat had a stress related uti in the beginning of January and he was put on a hills prescription diet. He loves the dry food from the diet but he doesn’t like the wet food that much. I tried putting toppers and he still won’t eat much of it. I found some of these urinary care wet foods but I just want to know if anyone has recommendations! He tried the hills prescription tuna wet food, I haven’t tried the chicken or other flavors yet!

Ear problem

2h ago

Hi everyone! I have an almost 1 year old chi mix. For about 6 months we’ve been dealing with ear issues and have been to the vet more times than I can count. We switched his food to salmon only to eliminate chicken allergy causing it, he’s gotten multiple allergy shots, been on oral medication and also been given topical ointment. It started with the red bumps that turn to scabs but now he has hair loss on the perimeter of his ears. The vet cannot give us a solid answer and I am looking to switch vets but feel lost after well over 5 appointments and no solution. They said the hair loss and scabs could be seperate issues or the same issue. He has all necessary vaccines and is on a strict ...

Tipping expectations at fast food/counter style places seriously needs to STOP

2h ago

Went to a local hot chicken sandwich type place today, it’s fast food but a little more “hip” than somewhere like McDonalds, they have a drive thru but you can also eat in, of course it’s counter service. So we order and the guy swings around the iPad. Now I’m used to this and used to being asked for a tip at places like this, but this time the guy had pre-selected the tip for us! He selected 15%. Luckily my husband saw this and changed it to no tip. He said that he saw the guy select the tip as well. As soon as we finish paying I can tell his expression and demeanor changed and he wasn’t as friendly. After we got our food about 15 mins later, I remembered I wanted some sauce s...

is the breville smart oven air fryer actually BIFL or just high-end e-waste?

2h ago

okay so i've been going back and forth on this one for a while and i need to hear from people who actually own one long term because on paper this thing should be the answer. people on r/buyitforlife are posting about their old breville lasting 10-11 years daily use. stainless steel exterior, quartz heating elements, actual weight to it when you pick it up. it genuinely feels like something built to last which is more than i can say for basically anything else in this category but then you start reading more and things get complicated the thermal fuse thing caught me off guard completely. it's a $5 part that just ***** one day and your $400 oven is completely dead. no warning, n...

Transitioning to a new food (per vet advice) SUPER nervous because it’s not WSAVA.

2h ago

For about a year now my Great Dane has been having some odd gas bouts. His stomach fills with gas and he gets super uncomfortable, he’s had a gastropexy done to decrease the risk of GDV but I still want to get to the bottom of it. I figured it might be a food allergy, either chicken or beef, and started switching foods, transitioning slowly and sticking with it for a while until he had a gas bout, then we’d switch foods again. Today was his yearly check up, and I mentioned this to my vet, who’s given my dog a clean bill of health otherwise ( ideal body weight, heart good, etc.) We talked about a diet trial, with a prescription hypoallergenic food. He explained that it would cost a ...

2h ago

We’ve had a lot of customers tell us it’s helped them eat better simply because they know next month they’ve got another supply of eggs and chicken coming. It takes the guesswork out of it. Our CSA runs June through November (6 months) and includes: • 4 dozen pasture-raised eggs each month • 4 or 2 chickens per month (custom cut or whole — your choice) Pickups are simple — we offer them at our farmers markets all around the Pittsburgh area, so you can grab your share wherever is most convenient. If you’ve been thinking about sourcing your food locally, this is a great place to start.

Friendly, playful cat is now hiding and sounds miserable. What should I ask the vet tomorrow?

2h ago

TLDR: Friendly playful cat now suddenly hiding, avoidant, and seems unhappy. What should I ask the vet tomorrow? I have a vet appointment scheduled for tomorrow. I will give them the backstory and ask which one of these is the most likely thing contributing to his pain. I (29, USA, can afford vet care) got a cat (3M fixed) 3 weeks ago on March 1st.  His previous owner said how friendly he was, playful, demanding attention, pets, and meowing/purring constantly. She rehomed him because he didn’t get along with her other resident cats, after a year of trying.  I brought him home and he was so happy for the first 2 weeks. He played, let me pet him,  and in the first 20 minutes of being...

Gotta Get (Constantly) High Somehow

2h ago

I’m gonna be frank: I don’t want help… I sure as **** don’t wanna be pre-diabetic or develop PCOS, but after the way my parents made the decision to have a large family and juggle the needs of that many people at once, I equate the amount of food I’m given to my worth and value as a human. I have a destructive way of “loving” the person I am now as an adult. I’ll likely never parent myself with enough food to satisfy. Maybe no amount of food equates to unconditional love. Not to mention sugar is both a high and a recreational activity. Nothing feels better than a perfectly salted dessert (I bake, so, yeah). I mean, I live my life looking forward to the next meal, whether it...

Meet Pittsburgh Pastures

2h ago

My name is Nash — I’m a Mars native and the owner of Pittsburgh Pastures. We officially started Pittsburgh Pastures in 2023, but I’ve been raising birds long before that. What began as a small operation has grown into a full commitment to raising high-quality, pasture-raised food the right way. Our birds are raised on pasture using mobile setups, rotated regularly to fresh ground so they can forage naturally on grass, bugs, and seeds — just like they’re meant to. Today, you can find us at some of the largest farmers markets in the Pittsburgh area — including Bloomfield, Lawrenceville, Squirrel Hill, and Southside — bringing pasture-raised, non-GMO chicken and eggs directly t...

My dog ate a cooked chicken wing out of the yard

2h ago

I just took my dog outside - I live in a city. We have a little bit of a yard but people throw food in it all the time. Normally, I can avoid any food in the yard but tonight my dog grabbed a chicken wing (flat) so fast and I tried to get it out of her mouth, but she chewed and swallowed it. I did hear the crunching so I know some of the bones broke, I don’t know if this is reassuring or not - smaller pieces, but also sharp pieces. She’s a 60 pound collie mix. I did give her a small piece of bread with peanut butter on it (she wouldn’t eat it without the peanut butter) and canned pumpkin. She is acting completely normal. She ate the bread and the pumpkin with no issue. What is the l...

Fenrir DNA results are in no surprises

2h ago

Sorry in advance for reusing the first photo it’s just the best looking photo I have of my boi right now. Overall no major health concerns aka clean bill of genetic health with just a possible medication issue and possible copper intolerance. He will very likely be outside of the normal size range for his breed. Overall I’m looking forward to see what he turns into and he will forever be my “wolf” child. I’m also happy I instantly put him onto the large breed purina pro chicken and rice puppy food because he definitely will be a big boi He also has a wolfness score of 4.4%

Homeless shelter food is bad

2h ago

It's better than nothing but it's not that good. Sometimes it's too oily as yesterday's was. I **** the pasta with chicken they give us. A few days ago they also gave us chicken. It was tasting bad, so I didn't eat it. The portion sizes are big though so that's a positive. The best thing is that on some days they buy fast food(pizza for example). That's the better days. They give us the same food every week. Hot dogs are also good since you can't mess that up.

My cat won’t eat her prescription food

2h ago

My cat was recently found to have mild sediment in her bladder. The vet put her on The Hills c/d urinary multicare stress prescription food. I got her a bag of the chicken flavored dry food as well as 24 5.5 oz cans of the chicken flavor and 24 5.5 oz cans of the tuna flavor. It’s a struggle to have her eat even half of the wet or dry food. She use to eat Fancy Feast Classic Pate and the Purina Pro Plan dry food. I started her on the prescription diet on Monday. I fed her half the can for breakfast and she ate it all, for lunch she ate all of the dry food I gave her, dinner is where the struggle started as she didn’t finish the other half of the wet food until I added pieces of chicken...
