[Hiring] Logo Designer

2h ago

Looking for a designer to help me out with refining my new small business's logo. A tidbit about the business to help with the vibe - we're a data engineering / data science shop with the primary customer base being the US government and its contractors. The "theme" of the design I'm looking for is "turning messy / unclear data into actionable information." Must-have deliverables: 4:1 and 1:1 ratio versions of the logo (not an exact copy but similar, think LinkedIn cover photos and profile pictures). Green and orange are our colors. Shoot me a message if you're interested! $150 budget for the project.

I started a dating platform for New Yorkers

2h ago

I realize this sub is dead so I'm just going to post here I launched a dating platform in NYC called Lettr Dating - https://lettr.dating/ I've worked on this for 2.5+ years and the app just got approved for the app store - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lettr-dating/id6758590501 It's an intentional dating platform where everyone has to fill out their profile, send intros of substance, etc.,. If you're not into someone you can just hide/block them. Since I live in NYC it only makes sense to focus on a single geographic area since it doesn't really help if I have members from Boise/Phoenix/Boston/NYC etc.,. It's self-funded and I've been a senior developer...

Starlink incentives..

2h ago

I’m pretty sure they snuck it in after they were giving the $5/month mini and the other day I checked it randomly like I always do and I noticed a little change in the perks for having the residential Max. 1. Free Starlink Mini RENTAL, if you have trouble loosing things or whatever you call it or you just know you’re never gonna use I wouldn’t get it just for the **** if it. If anything goes wrong with this brand new item you got doesn’t work or loose it like life has a way then your on the hook full the full price as it’s only a rental they aren’t giving us the device to own for free. Like I said when I read it again I had notice they added another item so now we get a free ...

Am I the jerk for getting mad when a Karen handed my husband a collar and leash and look at me saying that "if you ...

2h ago

For some context I am a 25 year old girl, and I am a kimonomimi, basically meaning a human with animal features like a tail, animal ears, and so on. My partner is a 26 year old man, he's about 6 feet tall, while me only being 5 feet tall. We were just at a Walmart when it happened at the time I was wearing a tail, ears, and paws on my hands and feet. And we were just there getting some stuff. Then we seen the Karen of this story let's just call her Amy, she was not by herself, she had a kid with her. We were just mind our own business when she came over. Her kid then asked Amy if I was a dog, then she said "look like one". Then Amy came over to us and said that "I lo...

AITAH for getting angry with my friends after they had a fight

2h ago

I live off campus with my college roommates. There are five of us. Two of them are always having silly fights, and sometimes things escalate quickly and they end up fighting like a married couple. So whenever they have one of these big fights, the girl (my friend) storms out of the apartment. The neighborhood we live in is not that safe. It is safe if you go around campus, but she is not known for doing that. I have warned her multiple times: do not storm off when you get angry. Even if you do, just go to campus. I was at an event this time when they had one of these big fights. She stormed off, and the other roommate was texting me asking me to get her back home. I text her, no reply. He ...

Turkish women entrepreneurs getting their first online order

After running their dress shop in Turkey for 16 years, these women decided to launch an online store. When their first online order came in, they were so excited.

How do I rebuild after burning out?

2h ago

I am 40 years old and I feel like I have been brute forcing my whole life. I manage my emotions by ignoring them and detaching and just keeping my head down and moving forward through sheer force of will. I have this bullying critical inner voice that just whips me forward because if I do not reach some amorphous goal post then I am a failure. When things are hard I beat myself up for things being hard then beat myself up for wasting so much time beating myself up. I have this learned helplessness from my father who punished me for my mistakes and punished me for my inaction due to my fear of mistakes. Everything came to a head during the pandemic. I started working from home and I couldn&#...

Is anyone else done with the loyalty program?

2h ago

There used to be great deals on certain routes and times when booked with points. I can't find any good deal anymore. I can't even get 2 cent a mile. I feel like AA nerf'd all my points. I get a better return on my doublecash card. Why is american doing this to us?

Every time I want to go to Intertex, they are closed.

Their open hours leave a lot to be desired, especially for those of us who work 8-5. Does anyone know a similar shop? I don’t mind driving a little further out if I need to.

Prayers for a trans friend 🙏🏼🫂

2h ago

I could use all the prayers I can get for a trans friend of mine who attempted last night, and for my own rattled nerves and emotions. She sent a few disturbing messages late last night and then went silent. I tried to contact her a few ways unsuccessfully then contacted a mutual friend to see if she’d heard from her either. Same story. Disturbing message and then nothing. We decided to go knock on her door and check on her. Learned she’d been taken to hospital. We tried to call and then stopped by the ER but they wouldn’t let us see her, though they confirmed she was there and stable. Got the run around a bit this morning but learned she’d been moved to a psychiatric hospital. C...

Shopping for used tables and found this one for $800 and trying to decide if it’s a good deal. No name plate. Owner says original price was around $3800 in Southern California. Thanks in advance for your input.

We killed our original vision after the bad playtest, but refused to quit. A story of our scrappy co-op survivor-rogueli...

2h ago

Hi rogues, Today we finally announce our co-op horde slayer **SLAMPUNKS**. For some of you, this game used to be called *Valor Hunters*.  Well… we killed that vision. We tried to be too many things at once, and we got crushed in the last playtest. Since it's only two of us, we decided to improve the roguelike-ness and keep core as clear and plain simple as possible but nail the feel of OG progression. Then we banked on it being hero-focused, fleshed out hero kits, and worked on the augments system. Not gonna lie, the game is far from perfect, but we did not give up on it when we got completely crushed. Instead, we locked ourselves away for a couple of months, cut all unnecessary,...

Our game Train Jumble is more than halfway funded in this last Kickstarter stretch! To celebrate, we're giving away...

2h ago

Heyo, r/steam_giveaway! **I’m Jess, one of the people working on Train Jumble. It’s a cozy train-management puzzle game where you arrange passengers’ seats and build the interior of your train while traveling along famous European train routes!** We have a demo out right now, and the support we’ve been shown so far has been really encouraging, especially during the last Steam Next Fest from people who tried our game. This gave us enough confidence to start our Kickstarter last week - as we’re pushing through this last stretch of goals and polishing the game to be in the best state possible for the eventual launch. So, to celebrate both the launch and halfway success of our KS - ...

Bike touring with kids - 160 miles in the cascades

2h ago

My wife and I took our family to the Cascades on our bike tour this past summer. What we loved: The views are amazing. The trail is well kept and hard to get lost. Pretty chunky from Cle Elum, but overall the trail was maintained well. Snoqualmie Tunnel was really awesome. Lake Easton State Park is really nice, with an amazing burger joint, but poor grocery options. Lake Easton State Park is really nice, with an amazing burger joint across the highway, but poor grocery options. Great grocery store options later in the trail. We rode 20 to 30 miles per day with our kids ranging 5 to 16. Not so much: The trail was a bit chunky between Cle Elum and Lake Easton State Park, but that was...

Was prompted to tip at a grocery store

2h ago

I forgot two ingredients for a dinner I was getting ready for and rather than get in the car and drive to a regular grocery store, I ****** it up and walked a block to a local, more expensive one. I only do this when it’s urgent, and hadn’t been to this place in ages. While in the self checkout line, I was prompted at the end for a tip. I’m not even kidding. 15%, 20%, or 25%. Tip for WHAT?! I shopped, I brought my own bag, no one helped me check out- and I’m still being asked? Has anyone else run into this? I’m so sick of this screen being shoved in my face.

First solo trip to Japan was a reality check: (Ate ramen every day and still managed to explore Tokyo on a budget) 🇯...

2h ago

Okay, so everyone told me Japan was going to be expensive, especially as a solo traveler. And yeah, parts of it absolutely *can* be. But my first solo trip to Tokyo was less about 'breaking the bank' and more about 'breaking my ramen streak' while still hitting all the major spots. It was a reality check, alright, but a surprisingly liberating one. Here’s the rundown from my 7-day Tokyo budget adventure: * **Accommodation Reality:** I stayed at a capsule hostel in Shinjuku – think comfortable pod, not just a bed. * *Cost:* Around **3,500 JPY (approx $23 USD) per night**. Clean, quiet, and surprisingly private. Proximity to Shinjuku station was key for transp...

XPENG is putting their buggy, 3rd-party "apps" behind a monthly paywall. How is this a "Premium Entertain...

2h ago

So, XPENG recently announced in Scandinavia (and presumably rolling out elsewhere) that after the first 12 months of ownership, they will start charging a monthly subscription fee (around €10 / $10) for their "Premium Entertainment Package". If you don't pay, they disable the car's data connection for these apps, meaning you have to manually use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot every time you get in the car to use them. I have no problem paying for a premium connectivity service, but calling XPENG's current software state "Premium" is honestly a joke. We are being asked to pay for a half-baked beta experience. Before putting a paywall in front of the info...
