I went to a store and picked up a 34 belt. Tried it on and it wasn't even close but the woman working the counter said the size is the total length of the belt not the waist it fits on. I had never heard this, every other 34 belt I've ever bought fit. Then I send my wife to pickup a dress shirt for me. 16 1/2 and 34/35. The guy didn't understand 34/35 he wanted to know if I needed a 34 or 36. I mean, I get it if you have more discrete sizing but to not know how shirts have been sized for decades?
