How long does it take to make a game? And what does it cost?

2h ago

It is probably a ****** question, but I see post on reddit with titles like "After 5 years of developement, I am finally releasing my demo..." and similar. If you are a solo developer, how long did it take you to build your game? Let's be specific: I am a solo developer, I've just started experimenting with Unity and C# but have more than a decade of experience as a developer of web-based applications. And I also work the usuall full-time job so my game-developing endeavours would be limited to evenings. I have an idea for a cozy game, 2D, no need for character control or physics or complex animations, some clicking, crafting system, store management, inventory, NPCs in...

Jay Kay Is Living Proof That You Can Own Good Cars That Don't Depreciate

2h ago

***The Jamiroquai frontman's Ferrari 355 GTS has held its value remarkably well, proving that buying the right classic at the right time beats any traditional investment. And this one has serious provenance.*** The music video for Cosmic Girl depicts three famous supercars driving and racing each other through several highways and mountain roads across a desert landscape from clear daylight to dawn. The cars in the video are a black Ferrari F355 GTS, a purple Lamborghini Diablo SE30 and a red Ferrari F40. That black F355 GTS wasn't just a prop. It belonged to Jay Kay, the man who's built one of the most enviable car collections in Britain. When the F355 GTS launched in 1995,...

Operations Position

2h ago

Question to all the fellow Michaels peeps. So basically at my store the OPPS position became open and I'm the RM right now and was not approached to take the position by my SM, they offered it to the FT CEM. I approached my SM about this and they basically told me it would of been a demotion not a promotion? Is that really true? It doesn't sound like it to me? Sounds more like BS to me. Isn't Opps like an Assistant Manager? Mind me I have ASM experience 2 years with another company. What should I do? Is this considered discrimination?

Delving in the idea of FNaF World being based on a brain

2h ago

So, the context for this is that I was revisiting FNaF World (inspired by the movie), and I suddenly started having conversations related to the game. Among them was the classic and strangely popular belief that the map represents the left hemisphere of the brain. A curious idea, but one that, to be honest, I never saw particularly well-executed. I felt like they didn't give the map the correct shape (I don't blame them; the map would look awful if it were a real brain), that they left areas out of place. So I did the logical thing: I placed each area in a part of the brain. This is how I got the image I attached, and I want to delve deeper not only into my reasoning, but also into...

Fabric dulled when I prewashed it

3h ago

Hi there I bought this fabric (100%) cotton at a cheap crafts store and it was shiny / kinda slippery when I saw it on the shelf hence why I bought it. I'm planning on making it into a skirt and so I washed it first (warm water, a little detergent) and now after drying it's like matte finish? I'm totally new to buying fabric so I have no clue if it's expected that shiny fabrics at the store won't end up shiny? Or if it's because I washed it using warm water and damaged it? Also do fabrics from cheap department stores do this more often than say if I went to a local crafts store that's more expensive?? TIA!

New Yarn Shop!

3h ago

Hello everyone! My mother in law has recently opened up a yarn and notions store on Stony Creek Rd. She has tons of options already, but is also taking recommendations on new ideas to add! Named for her and her late twin brother, lovingly nicknamed “Bird Dog”. Her love for crochet and his love of macrame helped both immensely through their health diagnoses. She opened her shop as a way to give back to the craft that saved her, honor her brother, and give the community a safe space to enjoy such a calming hobby. Hours still vary as we find what works best, feel free to check the website to double check* :) We’d love to see you there! *I will link the website in the comments

Feeling stuck at home with my 12-year-old in freezing winter and looking for ideas

3h ago

I’m a stay-at-home parent with a 12-year-old son who does online school. Right now it’s about 30°F every day where we live, and honestly, it’s hard to keep him (and myself) from feeling cooped up. We have a car after 5 PM when my husband gets home, which is fine because my son’s school day doesn’t end until 3:30. During the day, we’re pretty much homebound. He does attend library activities during the evenings and has some friends there, which he really looks forward to, but the rest of the time, we’re stuck inside. Weekends are grocery store runs and if there's something we have been wanting to do like going to a different antique market or going to explore a new state...

A tool to visualize the sentence structure: how your prose compares to great authors?

3h ago

I’ve been working on a way to make sentence structure visible at a glance, across an entire paragraph. The tool compares sentence-level structural patterns in prose by different authors, highlighting how clauses, phrases, and other features are arranged, and how certain structures recur or shift over the course of a passage. The result is this: * [Sentence Structure Explorer](https://toolznbytes.github.io/Sentana/img/Caption_v4) (visual) * [Try by yourself](https://toolznbytes.github.io/Sentana) (tool) Variation in sentence length contributes to rhythm and pacing in prose. This was an attempt to look a bit deeper into that intuition, and to see whether structural patterns emerge when e...

Is it normal to have a small fee for a crafting group?

3h ago

I own a small second hand craft store. I am just getting started with a weekly crafting group. They would have access to general tools (things to use during the time scissors, rotary cutters, needles, pins etc.) and access to purchase other supplies as needed. Is $5 for an entrance fee normal? I’ve never attended a group like this (nothing like this exists near me). I don’t want people to feel as though they’re getting taken advantage of but I want to be able to offer value in accessing my space.

Sanity check -- calculated leanFIRE numbers and I'm past them?

4h ago

33f, rural PNW. If you like optimal financial strategy, you should probably stop reading here. This is more like amnesiac squirrel / well-intentioned chaos gremlin financial strategy. Bought house on 30 acres for 300k in 2017, finished paying it off summer 2025. (started with a 15-year mortgage, switched to a 30-year in 2021 to minimize monthly payment in case of layoffs that didn't end up getting me, both rates were around 4-5%. Early payoff was a luxury that I could afford. I would have a few more dollars and a lot less happiness if I'd paid it on schedule instead.) No current debt. ~500k?? of assets I don't count: * House and land -- I'm not selling it, so I don...

Exhausted dreams 2 part 1/?

4h ago

[<Previous](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/s/HwaVez82uD) : Next> --- There is nothing. No pain. No sound. Just darkness. Mike floats in it, weightless, thoughtless, like something set adrift after forgetting why it ever moved in the first place. Then light. Not sudden. Not violent. It seeps in slowly, like dawn bleeding through closed eyelids. Warm. Familiar. Music plays somewhere nearby. A radio. Old. Tinny. Soft. 🎵 Life could be a dream… 🎵 The melody wavers, warped just enough to feel wrong, stretched thin like it’s echoing through water. Haunting in a way the song was never meant to be. Mike’s eyes open. He’s standing in a house. His house. The one back on Ea...

How to Start a One-Person Business with AI: The Science-Based Playbook Nobody's Talking About

4h ago

So here's what nobody tells you about building a solo business in 2025: the barrier to entry is basically zero now, but 90% of people still fail within the first year. Wild right? I've been deep diving into this for months, reading everything from Paul Graham's essays to Dan Koe's frameworks, listening to every **** podcast about solopreneurs, studying AI tools obsessively. And honestly? Most advice out there is either outdated or just recycled "find your passion" BS that gets you nowhere. The reality is this isn't really about AI replacing you. It's about whether you'll use it as leverage before someone else does. The gap between people who fi...

Daily farm, shell currency, and investment limits/advice.

5h ago

Just wondering, which regions or mats you specifically go to farm daily while progressing the game? I know about Tiger Maw for example, but anything else to keep an eye for? Also, I frequently hear videos of people warning to not waste shell credits, and that it starts becoming limited later. Is that true? Just vaguely from what I recall, avoiding stuff like buying mats and items from various stores (weapon crafting, pharmacy, grocery, etc). Recipes. Being extremely selective with how you invest/level the various forte skills, etc. And regarding limiting investments. I'm wondering: - **for 4 star weapons** should I be limiting / stopping how much I invest? I get that it's bett...

Any events of craft fairs in New York in January?

5h ago

Hello! I’ll be visiting a friend and I’m totally planning on going to the stationary stores recommended in the big thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/stationery/s/GlZJfH3YrS) but I’d also love to hear if there will be any craft fairs! I saw Renegade isn’t having one when I’ll be there this month but maybe someone here knows something. :-) Thank you!!
