How I scaled my one-person handyman business to $8,200/month with only ~$200

39m ago

Lost my job about a year and a half ago and decided to start a handyman business. Here's exactly how I grew it spending only around $200 upfront. Disclaimer: I already had most of my tools. If you need to buy them, check FB Marketplace or yard sales and budget another $100-$200. **Start in your community** Most people jump straight to online marketing, but I think you should get your name known locally first. Your first customer will almost definitely come from someone that's known you or seen you before. **1. Flyers and yard signs** I made about 50 yard signs and flyers and spread them around town, specifically where people actually stop and read. My area is mostly families a...

Any cool unconventional grocery stores to go to?

41m ago

Good evening, Calgary! While I've been living in this city for 6+ years, I still am not AS experienced or exposed to what this city can offer as far as grocery/shopping experience goes, and I'm a sucker for good grocery shopping sprees. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ As a benchmark, I've obviously been at Real Canadian Superstore (who hasn't, really), I work at a Sobeys, so I know what that offers, I've been to Calgary Co-op, And Ikea, which is more for furniture. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Things I'm looking for specifically:...

cdmx itinerary - pls help me add any missing things

47m ago

Hi everyone. I am going to cdmx this week (sorry meant to post this earlier). Below is a draft of my itinerary. My brother and I will be staying close to the historic center. Spanish is our second language and it will be his first time visiting Mexico, so I want to make it as memorable as possible :) Other things I am looking for include: thrift stores, jewelry stores, and spa recommendations. What apps should I download for this trip? For any restaurant recommendations, please do not give me panaderia rosetta or other super touristy spots! Give me authentic and tasty, much appreciated. **Wednesday**: \- arrival \- I should be settled by 5pm but don't know what to do this day? **...

Trying out guitars with no intention to buy.

51m ago

So, I have received some reward/gift options to choose from at my company for being a long time employee. Some of the gift items are some pretty awesome, higher end guitars, both acoustics and electrics. I'd really love to play some of them before I make a decision. The options are leagues above any of the guitars I currently own so it's a bit of a daunting decision. I want to choose a guitar that I'll love and hold onto for a lifetime. I've done all the research and watched all the videos I can online, but I really need to get them in my hands before I feel good about making a choice. Now, if I could play them at my local guitar center and walk out without buying, I woul...

Rooftop pantry

51m ago

I started feeding crows in February. Turns out one of them has been using my gutter like his personal rooftop pantry. Caught him this weekend mid-snack… just casually grocery shopping in his own secret stash. I’ll have to see how much he’s stored up there. I hope it’s only nuts and no chicken hearts!

Purple 34” Full Bank Service Cart

52m ago

Obligatory Spring BF haul post. I needed a box for the garage. I repurposed my 5 Drawer for woodworking only tools and put it in my shop. So when the add leaked, I checked inventory in my 2 local stores, no purple. They had purple in 2 other stores, both an hour drive away. Just for fun, Today I checked my local stores online inventory at lunch. It showed in stock. So I drove over, less than a mile from work, to double check because I know what it says on the website and app, can’t be trusted. Sure enough, they did have it. I bought it and asked the manager if I could get it after work, no problem. She’s a beauty.

Customer threatening to sue my tech shop over a misprinted warranty

55m ago

I own a small computer retail shop in Ontario. Last month, we sold a laptop to a customer. Both our website and the in-store price tag stated the laptop came with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty. It turns out there was a clerical error in our system. The manufacturer actually only provides 1 year of warranty The customer is claiming false advertising. I did offer him a full refund if he returns the laptop He refused the refund. He claims that a refund doesn't remedy the fact that he was misled into buying a product with "less protection than advertised" He’s now threatening small claims court for the "diminution of value" and says he's reporting us t...

How did you become anti-consumption?

55m ago

i'm curious how people came across this sub or anticonsumption in general. My boomer parents loved to buy things, and as a child it stressed me out immensely just how much stuff we had. As an adult I've continued to only buy things that I absolutely need and fix/replace things to the best of my ability. I still drive my old car from high school, I still shop for clothes that I need at thrift stores, and I frequently use my local library like it's my second home.

The Not-My-Job Brigade

56m ago

Not once have I ever been expected to do product returns. But tonight, when I'm off the clock and shopping for myself and my family, why are they hollering for me to do go-backs? I do the SCO or can cashier. I don't know this store like that and am neber given a Zebra to make it easier. They tell me to use my phone. I've never been expected to use my personal property to perform job tasks before in my 18 years of working. Why would I start now? Because the team is getting in trouble? I don't see how that's my problem.

UTI grads in NC — how'd you find your first shop after finishing?

59m ago

Clocked out of a warehouse shift in Kannapolis at like 10pm last night and spent the next hour on my phone looking at the UTI program out of the Charlotte area, trying to map out how I'd actually make it work schedule-wise. I've got maybe 14 months before I want to be in a real bay full time, and the program length feels doable if I can hold down part-time work during — cost of living around here isn't exactly forgiving, rent's gone up a lot in the last two years even this far from uptown. The commute on I-85 toward campus doesn't scare me, I've been driving worse stretches for longer just for warehouse pay, so that part I've already mentally accepted. W...

HELP our snails keep dying

1h ago

I have had 3 nerite snails in the past 6 months, all of them lasting about 1-2 months. So listen, I am a new fish owner, adopting a new betta fish in September and a nerite snail. The first death we were told may have been due to old age, as snail ages are unknown upon adoption. However, after our second snail death in the following two months, we became suspicious. During the second snail death, we had filter problems and concluded that a dirty tank/ broken filter may have contributed to the buildup of a harmful toxin in the water for the snail. We asked the local fish shop where we had been purchasing our snails for advice. We had gotten a new tank with a new filter and tested the water ...

Using regular checkouts coming soon.

1h ago

So one of the managers at my store approached me while I was bagging a medium sized shop at a closed checkout lane. She mentioned that coming soon we will be able to use regular checkout lanes. I asked if we would be required to use them, or could we choose between those, and self checkout, but she wasn’t sure of the specifics yet. Hopefully we get to choose one or the other. There’s times there’s only 1 regular lane open at my store.

A weird thing happened at 1000 days sober.

1h ago

I honestly don't know what that thing was. What I was feeling or why. I looked forward to day 1000 for quite a while, looking forward to the milestone, thinking about treating myself to a reward. When the day finally came I was just really triggered. Didn't want to drink but needed SOMETHING. An escape, an adventure I don't know what. I told my GF I was going for a drive and just got the heck out of Dodge and free spirited around a few towns shopping, hit some golf balls, bought a t-shirt. It was just a weird day with with weird feelings none of which I really understand. Day 1018 today all the strangeness was completely gone the day after. Weird.

This 2.5ct Lab-Grown Pink Diamond Ring Stole My Heart And My Budget

1h ago

I never thought I’d find “the one” in a jewelry shop, but this 2.5ct lab-grown pink diamond ring changed everything. Set in warm 14K yellow gold, the oval-cut main stone glows like a soft sunset captured in metal—pale peachy-pink, not too loud, but impossible to look away from. The real magic, though, is the hidden details: a delicate halo of tiny white diamonds tucked under the main stone, and a sweet bow motif carved into the band, lined with even more sparkling accents. It’s the kind of ring that feels luxurious, but never over-the-top—perfect for stacking with my wedding band for that dreamy layered look. I was wandering the store just window-shopping that afternoon, ...

My friendship with my bestfriend ***** & she doesn’t seem to care to put in effort

1h ago

Okay so i have a bestie we’ve been friend since we were 12 & 13 about 8 years now. But one big thing is she lives a few states away (we met while she was visiting family in my city ) and she never makes a single effort to see me. She comes to my state 3-8 times yearly and always sees her ex current bf his family her own family and bunch of her friends (even ones she’s known for less time ) but not me . Even if we plan something she’ll just not show up or make excuses. The first time we saw each other that wasn’t FaceTime was a few months ago . She called on her way to my city asking if her mom could drop her off here bc she didn’t want her to know she was going to see her...

Curious for awhile because no bra ever fits me right...but this feels crazy to me. Confirmation?

1h ago

I have been a miserable "34B" ever since I first got my ***** measured long ago (they haven't really grown since) and I have never found a bra to like. I've even experimented with sister C cups and bras that just look like they might fit :') But to no avail. They all fit wrong, make it hard to breathe, ride up, have gaps etc etc. Lately I figured, I have a measuring tape, sure! Let's do it. I measured in inches at first and got a size 32G (US). HUH!? I looked at a 32G in stores and that is WAY TOO BIG? I measured again later in centimeters, thinking maybe I measured wrong and centimeters would be more accurate. I then got a 32DD/DDD instead. This still sounds...
