Where is most of your country's food grown?

1h ago

I was inspired to write this post after watching a video the other day about a massive complex of greenhouses in southern Spain that produce a large percentage of the fruits and vegetables eaten in Europe. It was pretty awe-inspiring. On this side of the Atlantic, and especially in the US, large-scale "industrial" farms tend to be more common. Lots of farmland is only used for a single crop year after year, which isn't the most efficient way to produce food. My state (in the northeast of the country) generally doesn't have as many "factory farms", but the family farms that exist are often field trip destinations and/or expensive grocery stores. The closest suc...

O Circuit - January 2025

1h ago

Hey! A year ago I did an epic trip across South America doing a bunch of treks in Patagonia and Peru. I want to share my experiences with to reminisce and help any fellow traveler! Background: I had a bit of experience from 1.5 months of day hikes and overnighters in Scotland but nothing major. I would say that this hike is of medium difficulty. Besides the ascent to john garner pass I didn't find any of the trail difficult. It was mostly strenuous due to the length of the hike. Of course, as is everywhere in Patagonia, it is extremely dependent on the crazy weather there. The days I trekked in the backcountry part of the circuit had decent weather, and the second half of the hike was...

MyFin is a digital wallet, licensed by the Bulgarian National Bank. You'll get €10 from them (instantly withdrawable) when you sign up and spend €10 with the free virtual card. I'm offering an extra €5. You can spend the €10 through multiple smaller purchases, and you can add the Myfin card to Google/Apple Pay and pay anywhere - coffee, groceries, anything online, etc. **Availability:** mainly in Europe, and possibly other regions - you'll need to download the app and select your nationality to see if you're be eligible to sign up (they don't provide a list of countries, but I've learned that the US, Brazil, and Serbia are unsupported). * [Proof of ...

Strategies for Reducing Grocery Costs in a High-Price Market.

2h ago

Previously, we used to buy daily groceries from all these hypermarkets. However, after the recent conflict in the region, the prices at all the markets seem very high for people with nominal wages. I believe there are a few wholesale markets, but we either need to buy in bulk, which not everyone can use before it spoils, or the rates at these wholesale markets are also high. I’ve checked a few wholesale stores in Salwa Road and Abu Hamour. Even the items that are produced in Qatar seem to be higher despite ministry warnings. Can you share your recent learnings on how to optimize costs and get things at lower rates compared to hypermarkets?

fmcg field sales software that can handle 50+ stops a day without choking

2h ago

Looking for something that won't lag when reps are doing 50+ door knocks a day. Convenience store and small grocery routes, mostly, and every CRM we've tested dies the second you're offline or trying to load photos at the third stop of the morning. The problem isn't even the software most of the time, it's the bloat. Too many fields, too many required notes, workflows that force you to sit in the parking lot for five minutes after every visit. My reps are losing windshield time to admin. That's just dead money. We've tried Salesforce field service, some smaller FMCG-specific stuff, and honestly half of them feel like they were built by people who've ...

Aio- I am new to being a stay at home partner with my boyfriend

2h ago

Ive (25f) been living with my boyfriend (34m) for a little over a year. I do all of the cooking, cleaning, and managing the bills. My bf says that he doesn’t want me working, that he would feel that he failed as a partner if I work. I’m okay with that, I like not having to work anymore and take care of our home. I worked for years before meeting him. Truthfully, being the stay at home partner is like a job. It’s still tiring and work. You don’t have to socialize with people though which is what I like. I have my own debit card that he has $100 every paycheck (every 2 weeks) deposited into my account. I also buy all of the home supplies with that $100. Our shampoos, soaps, cleaning su...

The real threat of the Strait of Hormuz blockade is not $150 oil. It is a massive global food inflation shock coming thi...

2h ago

The media and political figures are currently hyper-focused on the crude oil markets, warning about expensive summer travel and Brent crude topping $111 a barrel. However, looking at the maritime and commodities data, the hyper-focus on oil is masking a much more severe structural threat. The Strait of Hormuz blockade is setting the stage for a catastrophic global fertilizer shortage. Here is a breakdown of the hidden supply chain mechanics currently at play: * **The LNG Trap:** The Strait of Hormuz is the central artery for global natural gas distribution. Qatar and the UAE supply massive amounts of Liquefied Natural Gas to Europe and Asia. With tanker transits severely restricted, this...

They force us to buy food that’s about to expire and I can’t say no.

2h ago

I work at a grocery store as a cashier and I genuinely **** this job. Almost every night before closing, managers start pushing all the stuff that didn’t sell and is about to go bad onto us. Mostly chicken, milk, yogurt, cheese, and other refrigerated stuff. And it’s not even like they casually ask if we want it. They basically force it on us. If I try to say no, they start with the attitude and the threats. Not always direct, but enough to make it clear what they mean. Like I should be grateful to even have the job. At this point I know exactly what they’re doing, and yeah, I know I have rights and all that, but I need this job. I’m not in a position where I can risk losing it ove...

The American Waygu steak I got from my local butcher was cheaper than a regular steak from the grocery store

3h ago

I cooked at a place that got me hooked on Waygu and decided it's my yearly birthday treat Usually it ranges from about the price of going out to a chain steakhouse to just a bit more than a comparable cut at a grocery store This year it was actually a little cheaper so that was a pleasant surprise and a reminder that grocery stores have expensive prices because they can

Im tired of no action

3h ago

I feel like I need to do something away from my phone to feel productive in making people aware of her. I live in L.A. Here me out and tell me what pitfalls you see or warnings. I want to sit in front of my neighborhood grocery store and hand fliers out to people. Just sit there and spread the news. Can I get arrested? Can the grocery store make me leave if they wanted to? I see girl scouts out there flinging cookies. But they might not feel the likes of me. Ill do it on a corner if they make me move. Ive never felt this much disdain for a person. She is just too **** arrogant for a MURDERER. What do u all think? Cuckoo?

I know you can never be proud of me

I've grieved that loss over and over. I'll still unblock you to give you little updates on life and then block you because your response would really hurt me. You don't care about my now nearly 2 year old, you probably don't remember her birthday but oh my goodness she's the absolute best. You're missing out so much on time you'll never get back and I appreciate you can't help the narcissism, and you'll never understand how I'm protecting her from the traits you immediately started showing when I did allow you into my life - mistakenly. I don't want her to grow up with conditional love, being guilt ridden, no self worth, with her value i...

On just WHAT to DO with all this ANGER. About all this SUFFERING and ALIENATION.

Lean in. Get crazy with me. I have guidance. Many of you are beautiful, creative, independent people. Young, passionate souls deeply uncomfortable with the ever-dawning reality of this **** world we inhabit. The Epstein revelations. This new war to end all life as we know it. The slow-fast collapse of the Empire. The ever-sliding-downward quality of life (has it always been getting worse?). I've seen this **** for what it is for a long time. It was not a Sight I obtained easily. Heironymous Bosch saw it. Phillip K. **** saw it. Lynch saw it. Michael S. Judge sees it. I see it. some of you see it. Some of you are starting to see it. At 30, on the other side of everything I'm ab...

I am not a good pet owner; when is it time to rehome a cat?

4h ago

I am an adult living with a family of 2-3 other adults, posting from America. About twelve years ago, my brother found a cat outside a grocery store up for adoption courtesy of a litter that needed taken care of. One in particular, who we have to this day. This cat is wonderful; loving, playful, and generally gentle (though there are rare exceptions), and we’ve had him for over a decade. In that time, we’ve adopted three other cats, two of which are still with us. I myself, am one who struggles with mental and physical health, and while I have grown attached to these creatures, I did not request to adopt any of them and do not consider myself a good pet owner. I take out their litter e...

Looking for advice about abusive spouse who is now restricting access to our money.

5h ago

My (43) spouse (45) who has been abusive for the entirety of our relationship of 10 years - (physically for a while (towards our children), always/currently emotional/psychologically/verbally to everyone, once sexually towards me) is now committing forms of financial abuse (something I didn’t know was a thing until recently). I had had enough one day and lost it, lied/bluffed that I had a lawyer and that if I ever wanted to I could end this relationship and as a result their career once things come out that they have done or said that I have proof of or that other people know of. I said this out of fear and frustration, hoping it would give myself and our daughter a break from their trea...
