I cannot figure out my toddlers nap schedule

3h ago

My two year old is killing me with her sleep schedule. We wake at 7-730 every day to get her sister ready for school. I used to put her down for a nap at 12:30 and sleep until 2:30, when we had to go pick up her sister from school. Bedtime was at 8:30. Suddenly this stopped working and she'd stay awake until 9:30-10:30 every night. I tried putting her to bed sooner, later, but it didn't work. So I shortened her nap. Tried 12-1, but she wasn't tired enough to fall asleep at 12 anymore and wouldn't fall asleep until 1. So I tried 1-2 and she would still be awake until 9:30 or later. So I dropped her nap. Seemed to be working fine. She never had an issue during nap tim...

Stonecliffe, population 2000 Tucked away in the Canadian northern woods sat a sleepy picturesque town. Surrounded by rolling hills ,little lakes and old pine trees. The main industry of the area came from tourism in the summer months. Folks staying in remote summer homes, canoeing on the still waters and coming through town to buy their supplies for these endeavors. During these months the small town is bustling with activity. As soon as the leaves begin to turn, everything becomes almost eerily still again. Rowan had lived there for almost 10 years now. Early on he fell in love with the landscape. The smell of pine, wet moss, shimmering water and the joy of padding a canoe in the la...

$2 per kg or $2 per packet. How good is not shopping at Coles and Woolworths.

3h ago

After seeing all the depressing posts about Coles and Woolworths holding you city folk to ransom, I thought I'd give some contrasts with what it's like outside the rat race. This is from my local wholesale supermarket. Everything in my trolley is Australian, as is just about everything else in store. It's the same size store and they've got all the major brands you'd find at the big two supermarkets, however unlike Colesworth they've got an in store bakery, butcher and they're not afraid to put staff on the registers! Like an oldschool supermarket they've even got fruit cartons/boxes out the front so you don't need to use the "environmental...

What language to use as family language?

4h ago

So glad that I found this sub, as I'm struggling with deciding what languages to use at home. My husband and I are expecting our first kid in a couple months. We plan on practicing OPOL, where I will speak primarily in the community language as its my native language and my husband will speak in his language. I have learned his language to communicate with his family, but am well aware that I make plenty of grammatical errors. Right now without kids we speak 95% in the community language and maybe 5% in his language usually at specific times like at the grocery store so I can practice. My dilemma is that I really want our kid to grow up Bilingual so he/she can have a relationship with g...

Salvation Sign

The day was not going well for Opal Hodges. First the leader of the church choir, Betty Sue Yarberry, had returned from visiting her sister in Texarkana so Opal had to step down as substitute leader. She had hoped Betty Sue might have a car accident; not one so serious it would have killed her mind you, but just bad enough to injure her so that she couldn't return. Now she would have to watch her again standing there before the choir, rocking this way and that, flapping her arms around like she was having some kind of fit. It was so unlike her own subtle moves which she considered nothing short of pageantry. Without her direction the choir might as well be a bunch of caterwauling alley...

Grocery Prices in Canada Are Hitting a Breaking Point and People Are Finally Pushing Back

4h ago

Grocery prices just keep climbing, and it’s starting to feel unsustainable. Basics cost way more than they did a couple of years ago, portions are smaller, and even people with decent incomes are cutting back. What’s really frustrating is seeing big grocery chains report strong profits while shoppers struggle. More people are changing where they shop, boycotting certain stores, or just buying less. At this point it feels less like “temporary inflation” and more like a long-term problem that no one has a clear answer for.

Extra charges after ordering online

4h ago

Hello!! Just wondering if anyone is having the same issue, this has only happened maybe 3 times when I have ordered (over 10 times) and that I have gotten a random charge after ordering groceries. The first one was for around 7$, second time it was 15 ish dollars and the third time it was 77 dollars. This was always after an online order for delivery not through doordash but [walmart.ca](http://walmart.ca) I have had to use my bank to reverse the charges because those charges were never on my walamart account or in a irl store.

Isn’t it weird the sudden explosion of AI and robots suddenly?

4h ago

Anyone else think it’s weird how suddenly robots and AI are everywhere? Like not a slow rollout over decades, but an abrupt flood, customer service bots, delivery robots, humanoids, AI replacing whole jobs and they’re improving greatly every single month. By the end of 2026 we’ll have Robot store greeters, robot grocery/food delivery etc Don’t even get me started on AI, by the end of the year literally no one will be able to tell the difference between real life and AI

How to grow bigger jaleponos

5h ago

Hi gardeners! Curious this is the first time I've ever grown chilli's before, I've always seen jaleponos in the grocery store and figured I'd buy some saplings so I can grow my own. I've got 6 plants this is the biggest one of the lot with the most chilli's, about 10 fruit. But all the fruit are very small 2-3 inches at the most and not much girth to them. Should I be doing anything to make them grow bigger? Any reccomendations for fertilisers specifically for chilli's or is that too late now that the plant is fruiting. Thanks!

On the Predatory Nature of Petting Zoo Mini-Horses

5h ago

“What a perfect day for a visit to the farm!” Brian Dudely announced to his family as he steered the minivan containing his wife and three children into a gravel parking lot. He was right, that happened sometimes, it was a perfect day for a visit to the idyllic tourist farm. A brilliant blue sky, a crisp breeze that made it just cold enough to need a jacket. The kids followed a sign with cartoonish animals painted on it to a large, fenced area; it was what they were here for. Aquaponic strawberries? Nope. Organic compost? Nah. They were here to feed goats. Two quarters got an adult handful or two kid handfuls of pellets that the goats went crazy for. Do you know who also likes pellets...
