# Part One: I inherited my grandfather's house in Grinnell. The dog came with it.

5h ago

I've been trying to put this into words for weeks now. I type something out, read it back, delete it, start over. Because part of me knows that once I post this, it's real. It's not just something that loops in my head at 3 AM anymore. It's something that happened. My name is Marcel Dean. I'm thirty-one. Up until September of last year, I was a reporter at the Pioneer Press in St. Paul, Minnesota. I say "was" because I wrote an investigative piece about officers in the Ramsey County sheriff's department burying evidence in an assault case. The piece was solid. Every word checked out. But the paper wasn't interested in solid — they were interest...

Adding (too many) items during an order is so annoying

6h ago

Yesterday, last order of the night, I had a choice between a $16 batch for like 72 units delivering less than a mile from the store and a $16 3 shop batch for 22 units. The store was taking its time boosting the 72 unit batch, but the other store boosted the 22 unit batch to $18. So I immediately took it. All of the orders were within 10 minutes from each other. (More like 10 minutes from store to A, 7 minutes to B, then 3 minutes to C.) And close enough to my house. I get there, immediately someone adds an item. No big deal. I'm shopping and have 10 items left, immediately A (10 items) and C (5 items) start adding items. So I become annoyed but keep going. A starts adding items from a...

I manufacture cosmetics—your $60 “luxury” moisturizer is mostly paying for the jar, not the formula

6h ago

I work on the manufacturing side for multiple skincare brands, and if most people saw the actual cost breakdown of their "luxury" products, they’d be a lot less impressed by frosted glass and rose-gold caps. Here’s the uncomfortable part: The formula for a mid-range moisturizer often costs between about $1–$4 per jar at scale. Change the bottle, box, and branding, and that exact same formula can sit on a drugstore shelf for $18 or in a department store for $120. I’ve filled the same base cream into three different packages: a cheap white plastic jar, heavy frosted glass with a metal cap, and a custom-color airless bottle. The heaviest glass version cost ove...

Store manager claims we don’t get two 15 minute breaks

6h ago

The past few weeks the store manager has been telling my teamlead and my coach that we aren’t required our second 15 minute break. I’ve worked here about a year and a half and we used to always get our 2nd 15 minute break but recently our workload has upped and we haven’t gotten our 2nd 15 minute break in weeks. If I’m scheduled for 8 hours aren’t we required a 1 hour unpaid meal and two 15 minute breaks because of Walmart policy? Also this seems to only apply to our team because we are doing more work every other department is still getting their two 15’s.

Would I be the ******* if started giving performance reviews to someone who isn't physically able to do the job?

6h ago

Before I even begin I'd like to say that I think I would be the ******* if started giving performance reviews to this associate. I'm mostly looking for advice. So I got hired as a Deli/Bakery Team lead after quitting the same position a year ago in a different state. (Different story I might talk about another time) There had not been a team lead in this position for about 2 months. And me moving here and taking this position probably seemed like a gift from heaven to this struggling store. The associate in question we'll call Jill. She is a transfer from another store. She's a closing Deli associate but her previous store she was a sales floor associate in crafts......

Title: I (25M) Helped Build a Multi-Million Dollar Company, Watched It Collapse Due to a Partner, and Now I Don’t Know...

6h ago

I’m looking for perspective from people who’ve been in the game longer than I have, because I feel stuck between ambition and responsibility right now. I’m 25M, married to my wife (26F), we've been together since we were 16. We have three kids (6M, 1M, and a newborn F). My wife has mostly stayed home with the kids, working part-time occasionally, which saved us from massive childcare costs while I focused on building my career. I started working at 16 and never really stopped. I came from a very low-income background (single mom making around $12k/year, relied on SNAP and free school lunch), so my mindset was always "work harder than everyone else". I started at minimu...

Anyway to guarantee/change delivery to Geek Squad instead of third party?

6h ago

Hi, I ordered a Samsung S90F a few days ago. I paid for delivery and installation because of how fragile this particular model is (I have seen literally dozens of these TVs on Reddit and elsewhere getting bent in transit or even just being taken out of the box). I told the salesperson I wanted Geek Squad to do this themselves, as I have always had a great experience with them in the past, and chose Best Buy specifically for this. He assured me it would be Geek Squad. I then received a call today to set up my delivery with a third-party. I said this was not what I wanted, and was told to contact Best Buy. I went to the store, and was told there is nothing that can be done, and to cal...

Lumber Liquidators Reduction In Force

6h ago

In February 2026, Lumber Liquidators, rebranded after LL Flooring Bankruptcy, performed a nationwide large and unexpected layoff. People came into work without any warning that they were going to be without a job by the end of the day. They were not offered severence. They were not given any form of advanced noticed to allow them to proactively look for work or prepare. They were simply handed or read an email and dismissed The consolation prize? Keep your commissions for the month, to be paid out towards the end of March. Good luck with the bills until then. Keep your accrued PTO to be paid on final check. I can likely assume that did not amount to very much in most cases with it being earl...

Update On The Road Again 4k Miles Later

6h ago

TLDR? - Even with the traction battery failing back in August, 4k miles since replacement, things are GREAT YES, I'd buy it again. Tows like a dream! I. Love. This. Truck. Odometer at just over 9K miles in 8 months with 3 months being out of commission. Yes, I drive a lot. What I want you to know: With an EV, Dealer/Service experience will vary depending on how much they care to encourage their employees to service EVs, or whether or not they can even service an EV. There is currently a lack of qualified EV repair technicians from what I was told by multiple parties as I navigated this situation. Traction battery failed back in August while [supercharging](https://www.reddit.c...

Win 11 on Legion Go S is objectively a terrible experience

6h ago

So i've managed to snag a windows version of the Legion Go S for a good price. I already own a Go S with steam os (the Z1E kind, it's a great device), so why not, it should occupy me with some tinkering for a while and will eventually make a good gift for my nephews. Except, not. I am not inflicting this on anyone else. And let's preface this with the fact that i'm not a newbie, i've been using and gaming on windows for forever now, heck, i install windows servers for a living. I've seen and made windows run on things that the devil himself would not touch. But this? Holy ****... I knew windows 11 was sh!te, but the home version is something else in the user u...

I need advice as a fairly new employee

6h ago

So I am an older new employee (almost 50). I joined at the end of October last year. The end of this month will be my 4th. I am In maintenance. I feel like I have learned all I can pretty much. I live in a rural area and in the biggest town for about 60 miles in any direction. I expressed my desire for being a team leader (or higher) eventually. I have a bachelors degree in an IT related field but that kind of work isn’t around here. I tried being a substitute teacher and that didn’t work out. What kind of timeline should I be looking at for things like promotion? Also, I have also expressed a desire to move to a different department after my 6 months so I can cross train. I want to k...

Everyone in My Town Knows About the Thing in the Woods, We Just Don’t Call It a Monster

7h ago

Blackwood Creek is a town built into the jagged, unyielding palm of the Cascades, a place where the hemlocks grow so thick they seem to weave a shroud over the valley floor. To an outsider, we are a postcard of Pacific Northwest isolation—damp cedar, perpetual mist, and the kind of profound silence that suggests the world ended somewhere just beyond the county line. But for those of us who live here, that silence is not an absence. It is a structural necessity. It is the mortar between the bricks of our homes, a strategic infrastructure of the mind designed to keep the collective psyche from shattering. We exist within a "Geography of Silence," a social contract written in the sp...

Finally Collecting ❤️ oh

7h ago

I casually have been buying Barbies for a few years now. Nothing expensive. Fashionistas. Then! I started thinking about this Barbie I really wanted back in 1996 maybe… I was a kid in Ukraine. I think she was in a wedding dress. You could bend her knees! That’s why I wanted her so badly. But you know…. My dad don’t buy that one. He bought a cheaper plastic one. One of those almost hallow dolls. I tucked away my disappointment as a 7 year old and thirty years later it bubbled up. I’ve only had one other Barbie doll in my life. When we came to America. And a small bedroom set. Now I have adult money and the internet. 😂😂😂and I’m very excited. I have been pretty intimidate...

Can anyone explain my recent Sephora customer service interaction?

7h ago

I feel like I am taking crazy pills so I am hoping someone who previously or currently works for Sephora can maybe explain and help me understand if there was a miscommunication, if I misunderstood, or what. I made an online purchase from Sephora on January 20th. Decided I didn't need one of the products (unopened/unused) and another just wasn't a good color for me and I wasn't impressed with the formula. It's a bit of a trek to get to a non-Kohl's location where I live, so I admittedly put it off a little bit. Today is the 20th, so I failed to take into consideration that would actually make it 31 days, and I assumed I had a little wiggle room because it wasn'...

If Anyone Needs to Compare Nightmares:

7h ago

I've worked for a nonprofit crisis intervention center for 15 years. There's always been some employee mix of "professionally-behaved" and its opposite. But the former group in leadership used to rise to the occasion if things got too dicey. Not anymore, and I was hoping to make some people on reddit laugh by describing what it's possible to end up with. Long story short, the thrift store warehouse in the middle of what was once a "Christ centered" campus is now an employee-led gang/mafia headquarters for collusion to embezzle donations and trade drugs within the community, while using company trucks and vehicles for these things as well. It took only one...

Korean Food Wholesale in India

7h ago

Hi all, I want to open a department store of Korean food, snacks, drinks, and sweets in India. I am very confused as to who to contact and get the details because on the CEPA website, I can only see one company selling the kind of products I need. How can I engage with more Korean brands and sellers to understand the MOQ and product catalog? Any help would be appreciated greatly. TIA
