Between Day and Night (Pink Skies)

7h ago

"For this reason deliverance is far from us and salvation does not reach us. We wait for light, but see only darkness; we wait for a bright light, but live in deep darkness." (Isa 59:9) I wake from a dreamless sleep to the heat of the day. The soil under my back stabs me rousing me further before I can crawl back under sleep's blanket. The sun blinds me as I peek open my eyes. I shade them from the painful rays only to freeze as I see the sky. The sky is pink. It's not azalea, or aqua, or any of the melodic shades of lapis. The sky isn't the god's artisanal brush of dying days or rebirth. There is no hint of logic in this crushing concept of beauty. The sk...

Smiths - can secret shopper failures get you fired?

7h ago

Smith's non-union store. I'm 1 month in and work part time. I failed some secret shopper (apparently, I was busy and didn't smile at them) and I was told by my department manager about these secret shoppers. I'm never rude to customers and I always help them when they need assistance looking for items. However, I can't say hi and engage in lengthy conversations with everyone within 5 feet of me, otherwise I'd get half my work done. If I fail again or multiple times, can I get written up and fired? Also, as a sidenote, I used to work for Safeway and Walmart, and they never had secret shoppers. I personally think the secret shopper thing is bullshit and the res...

Thank you, a Player Named Gus

7h ago

I have been wracking my brain and every device and apps to search for an instrumental song from the 80s for almost 10 years now. The song was pretty trendy as background music for intimate scenes on soap operas. All the humming and descriptions I could come up with about the clock tick took sound, bells, and whisper voices got me nowhere. I had pretty much given up, figuring I'd someday hear it in an elevator, department store, doctor's office, or grocery store. My jaw dropped when Gus was being smooth chocolate to Art of Noise's "Moments in Love." Psych for the win, and I shouldn't be surprised.

A lot of vibe-coded micro-SaaS apps are ignoring security, and that’s going to be a problem

8h ago

There’s a wave of micro-SaaS products being built right now with vibe coding. And honestly, that’s great. People are shipping faster, testing ideas quicker, building tools without waiting for a perfect team, perfect funding, or perfect timing. But there’s one thing being ignored way too often: **security.** A lot of these apps are being built with the mindset of “just make it work.” The problem is that “just make it work” can also mean: * weak authentication * exposed API keys * bad permission logic * no rate limiting * sensitive data stored carelessly * no audit logs * no proper backups * no clear security checklist * admin panels that should not be public * user data b...

Anyone worked IT for Sheehy Auto Stores (or dealership IT in general)? Got a few questions/concerns about a Field Tech r...

8h ago

Hey everyone, I’m looking into an IT Field Support Technician position at Sheehy Auto Stores (mostly based around the Fairfax/DMV area). The job description lists a salary range of roughly $52k - $70k depending on experience, and standard helpdesk/field requirements (1–3 years exp, Active Directory, basic networking, Windows environment, driving record check, etc.). I spoke with someone on the phone who mentioned that I would only be going to the Sheehy locations in Northern Virginia that need support if a ticket needs to be escalated or handled on-site. Before I dive too deep into the interview process, I wanted to see if anyone here has direct experience working internal IT...

Which brand makes the softest and most comfortable boys' underwear?

9h ago

Just wanna share this piece of thing, lol. Well, I've tried different brands on my son over the years because he's extremely particular about fabric and tags. The fact that it’s not mostly the expensive one from mall brands possesses only that soft and comfortable quality. Plenty of the very comfortable cotton underwear we purchased came from smaller vendors like shops online—amazon, alibaba and other online marketplaces. Several utilize that stretchable modal cotton blend that smashes softer after laundry, unlike standard packs from the department store. As for branded brands I think I would stick with Hanes ComfortSoft and Fruit of the Loom-boxer brief for moderate wear. They...

I feel under-appreciated and not valued

9h ago

I recently was promoted as team trainer at my store. I have been with the company since last March. I am a full time college student but have worked hard to stay full-time at work while maintaining my 4.0 gpa. I have come in on my off days to help with catering orders, volunteered to help other departments, stayed late, actually worked to train my team unlike the last trainer, done extra tasks, and have been one of the highest performing TMs in my department. I have not gotten any recognition from my TL, ATLs, STL, or ASTLs. I am starting to feel overseen and under-appreciated. I have hit a point of burn out with no true pay off.

My son is absolute trash because he abandoned me on the most important day of my life.

9h ago

I was at the cruise port, bags packed at my feet, sunscreen on my face and sunglasses on, ready to embark on the vacation of my dreams with my son and his wife. At 62, it would be my first time on a ship—a small dream come true after so much hard work. It was the pure happiness of a simple woman about to achieve something she had always wanted. My son, Rafael, was late—nothing unusual. I sat on a bench near the boarding area and waited, watching the families arrive excited and united, just as I thought ours would be. That was when my cell phone vibrated. > I read those words five times. My eyes couldn't believe it, but my heart already knew. I looked up, and there they we...

Stop Using Gmail As Your Primary Email

9h ago

Just want to preface this by saying this is long as ****, there’s a TLDR at the bottom, and this is related to an unfixed security exploit in the Google landscape that hackers are actively exploiting because Gmail is fighting its own users. This may have been brought up before and I apologize for that, but I do believe there is value in informing users as this is still ongoing more than six months after it was first reported. In the Lord’s year of 2026 with AI being much more adopted, scamming is becoming increasingly more effective and as is the likelihood that you may fall victim to it like I foolishly did a few weeks ago. I was hit with one of those classic Discord scams where they ...

Lawyer Frank repost of conversation with Terry Flemming about finding two book bags.

9h ago

The Discovery of the Bookbags I was lucky enough to speak with Terry Fleming about his experience. I know that I am not the first person that reported on many of these details, but I do hope that I’m able to add some details and context that others may find useful. I’m thankful for that initial discussion that was had (not mine). It led me to pick up the phone again. And it led me to speak to an individual that I’ve grown fond of in Terry. I am making this a separate thread because I would prefer this be used as a reference to my account as opposed to the spoken one on either my platform or Crack House Chronicles podcast. I believe you will get some added information and perspective f...

chance me

10h ago

Hello everyone please chance me!! GPA: honestly unsure if I correctly calculated this since my university does not provide full cumulative GPA’s unless you ask. But I had a 2.9 first semester of college (freshman year) to a 3.7 gpa my second semester. I took a summer semester with a 4.0 and since then (upcoming senior) I haven’t gotten lower than an A. I haven’t even gotten an A-. Not sure if course rigor matters but I took probably every single upper level science available and got A’s in all of them. I believe my cummulative gpa is around a 3.83-3.884 and my science is a 3.8. MCAT: 527 CLINICAL PAID HOURS: 2200. CNA at my universities hospital and MA. Shadowing: 100 hours acro...

I **** my job.

10h ago

I’m 20, f. I work at a liquor store inside of a grocery store. I’ve worked here for over 2 years and used to enjoy my job when I first started. I’m cross trained in every department and really wanted to make this company a career choice as I moved up in ranks but now I feel physically sick by the idea of working here any longer. This job genuinely makes me feel suicidal and I can’t leave my job. I’ve tried applying to other jobs and even a different location or position but nothing seems to work out for me so I’ve stayed. I get my life threatened every single day over scanning an ID card, I get screamed at by managers if my department (ran by 3 employees total) is even the slig...

Family member injured in dep. store

10h ago

Location: in FL but event occurred in WV Just found out my MIL, 81yro, who recently started chemo therapy was in a department store and a large piece of hard luggage fell from a high rack, hitting her on the head. It knocked her down, she was disoriented, and the store called from an ambulance. She was just discharged from the ER & her CT scan shows no sign of concussion. Still, she is lives on social security, just started cancer treatment, and can't afford any additional medical bills. She says her head still hurts. My wife called the store for info. The floor manager stated that they try to keep smaller things up high and it is because of the anti-theft poles. They are on t...

I need opinion

11h ago

I need an opinion about a situation. I recently found out my department boss, changed my schedule without informing me and I was lucky I checked my schedule of that said change. How would you feel about your store if you know they underpaid knowing and now try sabotage you as well. I am attempted call HR since I did told my store manager and almost gave me attitude about it even though the department manager trying sabotage me.

Cinder

The cold woke John from a dreamless sleep. The chill bit through the comforter seeped into John's bones.  “Damn pilot light must be out,” John threw his legs over the edge of the bed and let his feet dangle slightly above the floor. Bracing for the cold, he let out a reluctant sigh and let his feet touched the floor.  As John left the bedroom and walked down the hallway a thought crossed his mind. The house seemed to be completely deprived of any warmth. The lack of pictures on the walls made the house feel empty and sparse. Was it always like this? No matter, perhaps in the morning he’d go to the hardware store to get some nails to hang some pictures.  John made it to the g...
