I’ve wanted a slat wall for a long time but the panel ones from the big department stores looked really cheap and lacked a lot of depth which defeats the point IMO and there were other options out there but it would have cost me close to $6-700. So I decided to build it myself using red oak and then staining them myself. Had around 50 slats for this wall and each one had to be sanded twice. One with 150 grit followed by 180. Then it came to staining which didn’t take that long using a staining sponge. Then adding 2 coats of polyurethane to help protect it. The hardest part actually came out to be the shelf. TLDR: Can employer use my PTO to cover holiday pay without written or verbal notice? Context: Small town hardware store in NY. No written handbook, store policies, or HR department beyond the standard NYS compliance paperwork pinned in the break room since the 80s. Avg age of employers/employees is 60, with 3 guys in our 20s. 3 years at the business. Verbal agreement at hiring was full time hours with 1 week PTO at 1 year, 2 weeks PTO every year after.
