**The following article, entitled** [***Nuclear in my backyard***](https://www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/opinions/nuclear-in-my-backyard/)**, was published on January 17th by Brian Gitt, SVP and Head of Business Development at Oklo.** [Brian Gitt, SVP and Head of Business Development at Oklo](https://preview.redd.it/tzsatrthezdg1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=92159b731e96b5d17095dd2e081323c94787d10f) Having spent decades working in the energy industry, I’ve met with hundreds of residents in different cities and towns across the country to talk about energy infrastructure and new builds. Some conversations have been positive and thoughtful, but often people...

Produce Buyers doing Supervisor work too?

2h ago

I’m a Produce Buyer, but it feels like the role has quietly turned into buyer + supervisor + problem solver. On paper, I’m responsible for ordering and good order practices. In reality, I’m also handling supervisor-level tasks — making leadership decisions, fixing issues from previous shifts, training/correcting TMs, and keeping standards up — even when leadership is present. What’s more frustrating is that when this gets brought up to department or store leadership, it often gets brushed off as “stepping up” or “part of being a strong buyer,” without addressing the added responsibility, lack of authority, or workload. All while still being expected to order perfectly,...

Itinerary feedback

2h ago

Hi guys! So I am planning a trip for me and my sister from 28th March to 13th April. I was hoping to get some feedback regarding the itinerary. Is there anything I should add, anything I should skip? Am I doing too much somedays and not enough others? I would also appreciate car rental advice for Jeju island and any other general advice you have :) We arrive around 7pm on the 29th so I didn’t include that day, we will probably just go straight to the hotel. I have booked all the hotels so this is the basic outline: Myeongdong, Seoul: 29th March - 4th April Wiyeonjae, Gyeongju: 4th-6th Seomyeon, Busan: 6th-9th Seogwipo, Jeju: 9th-12th By Incheon airport: 12th-13th Seoul Day 1 Ik...

Flaw in Canon 50mm? Need advice

2h ago

Hi everyone! I recently bought a 50mm prime in Mint± condition. I know why they call it the nifty fifty, haha! At first, the quality seemed great. The bokeh seems perfect!!! Unfortunately, as I used it more, major design flaws started to show up; for example, when I dropped a setting (forget what it's called) down to 1.8 like I saw on Reddit, I stopped being able to see background details vividly. This was especially problematic when I performed a photoshoot for my wife and her boyfriend because the posters on my wall were no longer visible. Is this an issue with the camera body or the lens? I've been banned from my local photography store since purchasing the lens, so can I a...

kindly help me with my upcoming interview please 🥲

2h ago

Hi! I’m so happy I’ve got an interview coming up next week with my local Publix but I’m a bit nervous. Can someone give me some example questions they’d ask? I have pretty much open availability until 8pm everyday (I really hope this isn’t an issue but I’m sensing it is, it’s due to childcare) and have years of retail/customer service experience, and 1 year of grocery retail specifically. I’m a bit nervous because I’m sure they prioritize complete full open availability. I know a lot of people may say not to sweat it and just be myself, but I’ve really been struggling to find a job, this is my first interview after sending out like 50 apps in the past 3 months. I don’...

Why do we keep letting companies overwork and underpay us?

3h ago

This isn’t a rant so much as a genuine question that’s been eating at me. Why is it just accepted that the people doing the actual work get the worst schedules, the least control over their time, and the least respect? I work retail. The store doesn’t function without hourly workers. Period. If we don’t show up, nothing gets stocked, nothing gets picked, nothing gets sold. And yet we’re expected to be fine with things like being scheduled 6 days in a row, clopening shifts, or having our hours split across pay weeks so overtime never kicks in. And if you say anything, you’re told to “be flexible” or that “this is just how retail works.” But why is that okay? It feels backw...

Couldn’t find info on this print

Found this print at a Savers and liked it. Curious if anyone had more info on it. When googling it said it’s likely a department store mass print from 1960-1970 lol

I got revenge on a coworker by accident

4h ago

Trigger warning: POOP This happened in 2022. Pauline, Morty and I were all department managers at a store. Morty did inventory, Pauline did customer service and I did animal services. On the day this took place our boss was sick so Morty opened. He was supposed to be closing cashier. We were going through budget cuts and lost half our cashiers, so closing was two managers, one closer and one cashier. Since Pauline was customer service manager, she would default to cashier when working a closing shift. Pauline is a heroine and meth addict with horrible anger, crazy mood swings, spiteful ways of acting and overall extremely unpleasant to be around. She had once told my boss she didn’t like ...

Broken

4h ago

I’ve been working pickup for over 5 years, almost six this year. I’m 24, and with how terrible the job market is I can’t get anywhere even with a degree. It probably doesn’t help I live in a college town. This week was the worst week in a while. Years, even. One of the first actual weeks I threatened walking out or eating shrimp (I have an allergy) just to get away from it. A manager of my department “fell and threw out her back” (this happens like every week or so almost) and said she’d be out until Friday, then I guess just up and took her vacation? I don’t even know, but the main 12-6 guy also had his vacation this week. This meant it was supposed to be me, and me alo...

Got offered to move from appliances to Pro. I would like feedback from people who've been in situations similar to ...

4h ago

Please don't tell me Run if that's all you came here to say. Okay so. The Pro DS approached me a couple days ago to tell me there's a spot opening up in his department, and because of my numbers and service abilities, I'm the first person he pinged for it. For some background, tomorrow marks two years for me at my store, with the last sevenish months of that being an FT appliance sales specialist. Before that, I was FT service desk and before that, PT HC. In my time as a specialist, I've met or surpassed expectations (though my bonuses don't always get made but I knew to expect that and I've never gotten flack about it). I just found out I got 100 cre...

The Great Chronicle: Ryuu What If. Parts 1 and 2 (2/7).

5h ago

[Part 1/7](https://www.reddit.com/r/DanMachi/s/dvXeMWhJuB)   ~MASTER AND PUPIL   Then, the next day. The sky overhead was still draped in darkness. It was that ambiguous time between night and morning, when dawn had yet to break across the eastern horizon. Having woken up much earlier than he ever normally would, Bell arrived at an open, vacant lot. Calling it a vacant lot wasn't entirely accurate; it was more of an open-air storage area, a space enclosed by wooden buildings. Located in the inner courtyard of The Benevolent Mistress, this area had apparently been intended for another building, so it was quite spacious. C...

Spreadsheet to track my progress

5h ago

Hello! I work in retail and my main responsibility is pricing. Recently I received an email from my district manager about our stores price mismatches being 4.50% this is real high and bad the overall store percentage should be 2% or below. I have created a challenge and deadline for myself. I need to get that high % closer to 2% by May 31st. A second part of my pricing job is to complete daily price changes , the total number per day changes ranging for 90 to 1,000 ( when it is higher than 400 I can left 250+ rollover into the next day) doing this cause me to have more for the following day. I have been feeling overwhelmed, discouraged and anxious. I enjoy what I do and am the only pers...

Japan with Kids: Tips for Trains, Hotels, Strollers, and Baby Rooms

5h ago

Like the title suggests, I’m sharing all tips I know about travelling to Japan with kids, for all parents planning to.  Japan is becoming a popular destination for families, and especially parents with kids. And the reason for this is because there are so many things to explore in Japan that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Also, there are several cities, such as Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, etc., (these are the most popular ones but trust me there are more) each with its own unique activities. If you're thinking of taking a family vacation this year, I highly recommend you add Japan to your list. It’ll be  worth every moment. Here are a few things to keep in mind that'll m...

On Frozen Configurations and the Depletion of the Penny Tray

# On Frozen Configurations and the Depletion of the Penny Tray ## Why a Children's Toy from 1980 Stayed Open While Everything Else Locked, and What Happened to the 38 Cents --- > **Abstract:** > In 1980, a Hungarian professor's puzzle arrived in the West. In 1981, an American president fired 11,345 workers and froze the configuration of American labor relations for forty-five years. The Rubik's Cube remained open—anyone can make moves. Everything else locked. This paper traces the expansion of frozen configurations from labor (PATCO, 1981) to property (DMCA, 1998) to the human body (Second Sight retinal implants, 2020), introducing the Discretionary Displa...

Put two characters in the same room (World's collide edition)

5h ago

Mad About You connects Friends to Seinfeld, both shows ran for like a decade and shared lots of peak 90s talent. Who are two characters you'd like to see in a room together? George's dad and Rachel's ex Tommy would be an awesome public crashout if they got into it at a department store. Jerry's "wife" meeting Monica would be pretty boring. I'd like to see Gary Fogel and Steve the restaurateur go into business together. Actually Steve could be a Fogel. Too short; want more to read: Paul Buchman recognizes Jerry in Mad About You, and he subleased the apartment to Kramer. Which means the Jerry he ran into is the working comedian with a failed TV pilot, not t...
