In most of the large shopping centres around my place (Hoppers Crossing, VIC), the trolley bays are a complete mess. It’s always a mix of Coles, Woolies, Aldi, Target, Big W, Kmart etc all shoved together. Because every brand has a different trolley design, they don’t nest properly in the carpark bays. So you end up with half-stacked rows, and chaos. Would it make more sense for the shopping centre itself to own and manage all the trolleys? So when a major store signs a lease, they just use the centre’s standard trolley system. I’ve worked at two different Kmart stores and at both of them the scanners at the registers don’t work properly. Sometimes I’ll pick it up to scan something and it turns itself off, then there’s an awkward 20 seconds when i have to explain to the customer that they do this all the time, while I wait for it to fix itself. I see my coworkers unplug the cord and plug it back in to try and fix it but it never works. Recently my managers have decided to cut the number of people on registers and instead turn the monitors around and put them in self serve mode. I did my first shift the other day. It’s a brand new store, so they were bringing in groups of new staff at the same time. We all had to say our names and the pronouns we’re comfortable using. I understand introducing yourself and I get she, he and they, but I’m not sure if I’m overthinking it. The centre had a massive sale on, it was so busy, and I was trying to learn everything while serving customers. I’m already focused on scanning, payments and keeping the line moving, so trying to remember everyone’s neo pronouns on top of that feels overwhelming. I only finished High School. I never went to college because of anxiety and not knowing what I should do. During a summer in High School I worked at my states geological survey. Hello everyone, I’m currently 14w pregnant and getting to the point where all of my clothes aren’t fitting anymore. I’ve spent the past couple of weeks searching in person and online for maternity clothes and I’m at a loss, whatever happened to Kmart, Target, Best and Less having their own maternity section?? Are people not pregnant anymore according to these companies?
