Returning to India after 14 years - I need your help

3d ago

Hi all, I don't have a lot of people to consult as I make this move, so I'm relying on this subreddit for help. If I was younger, I would be confident, but as I grow older, I'm not really as strong-willed. Really appreciate you guys. Consider this post a cathartic release rather than a specific set of questions. I'm single, 32, male, and I'm returning to India from NYC. I've been in the US for about 14 years now. I've thoroughly enjoyed the last decade and a half in the country, having lived in several metropolitan cities here. First, for undergrad, and then for the next decade working in several MNCs. I've had my fair share of ups and downs in life,...

Can you help me to understand which role is tougher compared to being housewife or provider?

5d ago

You must have seen on Reddit plenty of times how women show themselves to be oppressive when household chores fall completely on their shoulders. I want to understand which role is the toughest one. I would say it's being a provider. Humans have been existing in this world for lakhs of years. Whether men used to hunt or they used to do farming. Being a provider is always the toughest one India and China have also witnessed famines. I believe arranging a ration is more difficult than cooking food. People sleep on an empty stomach because they don't have money to buy food. Everyone wants to live in a big house, but millions of people are homeless or living in a slum because...

International Students Try To Persevere at UNR Despite Mounting Challenges and Insecurities

7d ago

# In hushed conversations, international students at UNR often explain how they now no longer go to academic conferences or on vacations which require airport travel.  Some don’t go out at night for fear of getting caught up in immigration crackdowns.  Others have asked us to scrub quotes from articles in which they were cited espousing pro Palestinian views. Campus protests related to Gaza, which used to be filled with international students, stopped taking place in 2025.   Many international students have entirely shut down their social media accounts. Nationwide, applications for F-1 student visas are dropping precipitously.  New international student enrollment at U.S colleges d...

Vietnam solo trip experience

12d ago

Hey guys! I solo travelled to vietnam from 15th of December 2025 to 25th of December 2025 and had a blast. For context I am an Indian and thanks to my fellow country mates, the reputation of Indian tourists is straight down the bin. But suprisingly the people here were extremely friendly! I was treated no lesser than any white tourist and it was really heartwarming! I started of in Saigon, visited Da Nang, Sapa, Hanoi and back to Banglore. Vietnam airlines was just outstanding for domestic travelling and HK Limousine was really comfortable. The busline coildnt arrange a limousine back to my room so they paid on cash for my grab driver. I am a vegetarian so the buffet at the hotel and halo...

Why European airports are better than American ones (long rant on what makes an airport good)

18d ago

I see a lot of bad takes here about airports, so, as usual, I’m annoyed enough by the internet to write a correction. My general view is that you need to have flown through an airport at least \~10 times, in different modes (transit, O&D, different airlines/terminals), to have an informed opinion. I’ve flown a lot (>1000 flights), but I still have blind spots, so I’m ignoring places like India here. Also: airport rankings (Skytrax, etc.) are useless. They’re widely believed to reflect who pays rather than anything meaningful. Many posts here come from occasional travelers who confuse glitz with quality. Doha is a good example. It looks impressive, but it fails on basi...

Myth Busting #4: "Humans Are Omnivores, Therefore We Can Eat Meat..Look at my teeth"

19d ago

One of the most common justifications for consuming animal products. The first part is technically correct, but unfortunately the conclusion doesn't follow. The real question isn't whether we *can* eat meat—it's whether we *should*. Welcome again to another debunking. Let's start from basics. **What is "Omnivore" ?** The term omnivore describes what an animal is *capable* of eating, not what it's optimized to eat or what it should eat. Omnivores are defined as opportunistic feeders who survive by eating what is available, with generalized anatomical traits rather than specialized ones. (Is that too technical?) Yes, humans can digest both plant and ani...

Looking for Taiwan-based partners/buyers to import premium Indian spices 🇮🇳🌶️

21d ago

Hi everyone, I’m an entrepreneur based in India and I’m looking to connect with Taiwan-based partners, importers, distributors, or small business owners interested in high-quality Indian spices. I work directly with reliable sources in India and can supply top-grade spices such as turmeric, cumin, coriander, chilli, garam masala blends, etc. I’m flexible on the format: • Unpacked / bulk spices for your own processing or packaging • Small packaged spices ready for retail • Packaging can be done under your brand or jointly branded (or even mine, if preferred) To be completely honest and transparent: I want to start small—test the market, build trust, understand regulations ...

Advice for Maui Portion of Maui/Kona Trip

21d ago

Hello! My husband, my in-laws and I will be staying at the Mauna Lani in March 2026. My in-laws are in their mid-70s and my father in-law has limited mobility (he can't handle long walks, intense physical activity.) **Our goals**: some higher end dinners, but all delicious food. Keep lunch flexible without plans (head to grocery stores for poké, eat at hotel, go off property if/as we desire based on energy.) We want this to be a relaxation oriented vacation that isn't over-booked; husband and I just hiked Mt Etna for 8 hours a few months ago/saw Stromboli erupting, etc. in Sicily so we're not set on taking an entire day w/ the short time we have to go to Volcano National Par...

Poland is Alive and We cannot Leave

30d ago

Log #1 May 4th I'm starting this log, in case I survive. Perhaps after everything, I can have this published, as part of a news journal.  We noticed the vibrations around 2 weeks ago. It was enough to gain the attention of political leaders and the news stations. Seismologists couldn't explain the readings on their charts, and so a full investigation went underway.  News crews followed scientists, as they traveled to areas of Poland where there were stronger readings. What they found was perplexing. The edges of Poland were separating, exactly on the borderline.  What we saw on the live broadcast didn't look like tectonic plate activity or anything like that; No lar...

The Silent Grief of Your First Canadian Holiday Season: What No One Tells New Immigrants

36d ago

I’m sitting in my downtown Vancouver apartment on a Saturday afternoon in early December, staring at my phone. My mom just sent a video of Bruno, our Golden Retriever, sleeping in my old bedroom — the room that still has my engineering textbooks on the shelf and the fairy lights I hung up five years ago. The winter sunlight (the kind that actually feels warm) is streaming through the window in the video. In Vancouver, it’s 4 PM and already dark. The kind of dark that feels like it’s swallowing me whole. I moved to Canada eight months ago for a software position at a tech company I’d dreamed of joining since my final year at Thapar. The offer letter felt like validation of every la...
