Forgot something for Christmas dinner? Here's what grocery & convenience stores are actually open TODAY (De...5d agoHey everyone! Saw "what grocery stores are open on Christmas Day" blowing up on Google Trends, so I figured I'd share a quick, updated rundown for anyone in a last-minute panic (we've all been there 😂). Most big grocery chains are closed today to give employees time with family, but here's the real talk on what's open: **Convenience Stores & Gas Stations (your best bet for basics):** * 7-Eleven: Most locations open 24/7 as usual. * Circle K, Sheetz, Wawa, Casey's: Generally open (many 24/7, but check your local). * Cumberland Farms & others: Often open. **Pharmacies (great for snacks, drinks, meds, etc.):** * CVS: Many open with regul... ISO Red Pillsbury Frosting8d agoSince using food dye is a pain and I can never get the red quite right, I was hoping to find this Pillsbury red frosting. I have only found the green. I have looked at Target and a few Harris Teeters around Durham/CH. Has anyone seen it anywhere?? https://preview.redd.it/xq8wo3zhlo8g1.png?width=1206&format=png&auto=webp&s=235f3f7a6176671ef6fde0fea2752d795495bf3a Why are there no generic Wheat Chex cereals anymore?8d agoI want to make Chex Mix. I cannot find any generic Wheat Chex cereals anywhere. I've checked Walmart, Target, Aldi, Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, and Safeway. They're not out of stock, they just don't carry it. I used to buy the generic version at Walmart and maybe Wegmans. I rarely buy name brands as they're too expensive and not worth it to me. I usually buy whatever is cheapest per ounce/pound. I can do without the rice Chex, but the wheat is just as important as the corn. They're the two most important ingredients. Beyond Meat’s Comeback…Food for Thought…Key Partners and Real Scale8d agoBeyond Meat has been quietly cleaning up operations and expanding distribution. The focus has been cost discipline, fewer SKUs, and better execution. At the same time, distribution has expanded meaningfully in the U.S. and Canada, with new value packs and broader shelf placement. There are also signs of renewed international interest, including potential expansion in markets like India. Talk about a MASSIVE vegan and vegetarian market. What gets overlooked is who they’re actually working with. This isn’t fringe retail — it’s large-scale partners with real reach. If improved execution meets this level of distribution, the next few quarters could look very different. Major partners ... We need to make Harris Teeter Bacon a backup currency10d agoSeriously, when the economy finally collapses I have to assume the bacon from the Teets Hot Bar will be worth more that gold or silver. I went this morning, got there at 9:08, the bar opens at 9. There was no bacon left and the rest of the food had barely been touched. There weren't even bacon shards left, just grease. I did my shopping and came back around and there was some fresh bacon. A guy got there before me and loaded up 30-40 pieces of bacon... and that's it. I know because he checked out next to me and that's all he bought. What I'm asking is, can you guys learn how to share? I like the bacon, but no one needs that much. 2bed2ba Lease Take Over - NOMA UNION MARKET - Thru August 2027 <$3k/mo11d agoWe have a 20mo lease, but my job changed abruptly and have to move out of DC. We signed a longer lease to lock in a good price for a 2bed2ba in a really nice area of DC, but unfortunately we have to find a way to get out cleanly. Pictures attached - taken at night. Apologies for the mess, as there are still boxes floating around. I am happy to video call or send more pictures specifically to folks if interest pops up (especially when there is daylight out), or set up an in person tour. * Details below - Building name - Ledger Union Market - Greystar Management * $2995/mo w/o utilities. Altogether, on average - trash, water/sewage/electricity & water is about an additional $150/mo. 2... Where can I buy a goose for Christmas dinner?12d agoA few years ago (maybe even last year) I saw them at Lowe’s Foods but at least the one near me doesn’t have them this year. I wish I’d just ignored my husband’s objections and gotten it then, but I didn’t. I’ve checked online with all the most likely stores (Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Sprouts) and only see it on Lowe’s Foods. But sometimes online doesn’t have actual store inventory. Has anyone seen it anywhere recently? This Took Way Too Long to Find >_<13d agoFood Lion's website ***lies***. Took me three stores (and a phone call to the third) to finally find a store that had this in stock. None of the Harris Teeters (our local Kroger chain) had it, and they're usually pretty good at having a good variety. Four more 12-packs (there were six originally) remaining as of \~8pm 12/16 at the Leesburg VA Food Lion @ 720 S King St. in a pile along with other limited sodas near the front of the store - they're NOT on the Soft Drink aisle, and it's currently BOGO. I haven't tried it yet - it's currently getting cold. **Verdict:** Pretty good, but not "driving the better part of two hours around Northern VA to get&quo... Friends and Family (Chapter 1)16d ago**Book One** In the shadow of the skyscrapers of Charlotte, North Carolina, is the neighborhood called Dilworth, a collection of shops, parks and houses. Dilworth is a nice place to live and raise a family. One of those nice houses, on a street called Bethany Street, lived a man by the name of Jim Faulkner. Jim lived there with his five daughters. It was a very nice two-story house. It had flower boxes on nearly every window, especially in the front of the house, and also at the kitchen. He had a wife named Candi, who he lost in a plane crash. In addition to the job of raising his daughters, Jim also ran one of Charlotte’s most successful car dealerships. It was called, app... Where to buy fresh gallons of (good) non-fat milk?17d agoAny tips where to buy gallon containers of good quality non-fat milk that isn't about to expire? I've tried Ingles, Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Trader Joe's, etc. I've found that either: 1. Most stores stock very little non-fat milk at all (just whole milk and 2% in most brands); or, 2. Many stores that *do* stock non-fat milk don't sell gallons, just expensive half-gallons; or, 3. The gallons are almost at their expiration date (too soon to drink it all); or, 4. The milk is low quality (e.g., Trader Joe's non-fat tastes like water to me). We drink a lot of skim milk. In my previous home, I could count on buying 3-4 gallons at a time, with expira... starting to freak out a little about the forecast17d agoNever posted on this sub before, but unlike past winters, for whatever reason I am having a really hard time staying warm - and it isn't even winter yet. I think it is due to having lost so much weight and also that my sleeping bag has gotten worn out and thin. And since I have already been freezing with lows only in the upper 20s or low 30s, the forecast for here Sunday and Monday of 15 degrees each night has me worried. The only thing I have learned will keep me warm is if I eat a lot of calories as late as I can. Most of the time I don't eat very much and it is in the afternoon. This past Monday it was brutal and I loaded up on donuts from a dumpster and that helped, but the st... Prime Ribeye20d agoPicked up this prime Ribeye from Harris Teeter on special - half price so I couldn't resist. Seasoned with Kinderz Cowboy Butter and cooked in beef tallow. Used chef IO wireless thermometer (an entirely different topic since I switched from meater+). Came out pretty good. Honoring NCs retail workers22d agoFrom Greensboro’s Gwen Frisbie-Fulton: When I was in middle school, my grandma took a part-time job at the mall’s gift-wrapping counter. She showed me how she tied the big, beautiful glittery gold bows and the fancy way she’d been taught to fold the corners on the red plaid wrapping paper. I just about died at how pretty it all was. Imagine a job where you get to make things look so lovely, bringing such cheer! I was dazzled by it and could see myself someday sitting at that counter, surrounded by colorful ribbons and papers. Imagine my surprise, then, when I overheard my grandma on the phone with her sister, describing her new job as “an absolute living ****.” I’ve learned ... Gallstone induced pancreatitis33d agoI wanted to share my gallstone pancreatitis journey because when I was going through it, I searched everywhere for similar stories. Hopefully, this helps someone recognize what’s going on before things get as serious as they did for me. I have never really had major physical health issues in my life. I have been a little overweight and my cholesterol was getting a little higher over the last few years but nothing tremendously wrong with me. I'm about 5'11 or 6' and hovering around 240 lbs. I went on vacation with my wife and toddler children for spring break to a resort area. It was the week of April 13-19. We were eating poorly, as one will on vacation. A lot of fast food...
