This seems like a GenX experience. Boomers didn’t seem to care about the radios and the newer cars got too complicated. Even those of us who were not super mechanically inclined seemed to dabble,in swapping the radios - to transition from the 8 tracks to cassettes, then to CDs. I spent hours sweating upside down in my car doing this - even had a graphic equalizer. My stereo was probably worth more than the car (which was a low bar to clear if I’m honest.).
