My life has changed drastically.

3h ago

Box cake I made a few weeks ago. 💖 In the past 2 months my life has changed so significantly, and I couldn't be happier. My husband finally had his immigration approved and he moved to the US. Prior to this, I haven't seen him in nearly 2 years while waiting for his immigration to process. The same day he arrived, I found out I did not get chosen for the promotion I applied for at work. It was so bittersweet. I was so glad to have him be there to support me and since he arrived, the hugs have been never ending. I come home every day to my husband having cleaned the whole house, no corner left un-dusted and the toilet sparkling. He has kept close track of our finances, creat...

I only wanted to save my garden harvest… somehow I ended up pressure canning at midnight

3h ago

Let me set the stage. Late summer, backyard garden went completely wild. Tomatoes everywhere, zucchini hiding under leaves like they planned an escape, beans growing faster than I could cook them. My neighbor laughed and said, “You better start canning or you’ll be feeding raccoons.” I haven't canned before, I have zero experience and the memories of my grandmother lining shelves with dusty jars that looked like treasure. So one Saturday I bought a used pressure canner from a guy who kept chickens in his garage. No manual. Just vibes and confidence. First batch was chaos. Steam noise scared me. I kept checking the gauge every two minutes like it was a hospital monitor. I proce...

Contemplating move from upstate NY

3h ago

Hello all! My husband and I are seriously considering a move to the LA area from upstate NY in the next 3-4 years. The firm I work for has an office in Encino (would be hybrid), but I’d likely also have the option of working remotely. With merit raises and a COL adjustment I’d ballpark my annual salary to be $120-130k, being conservative. Combined we might be around $180k if I had to guess (he’d have to find a new job). About us: in our early 30’s, no kids, own a home with a very low mortgage interest rate (thanks 2020) in a pretty low cost of living area. We enjoy being outdoors, coffee shops, great restaurants, live music, bars every now and then, theater, traveling, record sto...

[Request][PS5] Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

3h ago

Alright. So you’re probably gonna see people asking for this game a lot. But hey, anything’s worth trying right? So here goes. As the post says, I will literally SELL MY SOUL. (Apologises for the use of caps) for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The game I’ll say fairly confidently, a lot of us have been anticipating. I’d have bought it myself, but I’m unfortunately short on money as of right now. Am I any different from anyone else asking? No. And I’m not gonna give you my backstory to gain sympathy. But I’m not gonna say I haven’t been a long term fan of the series. I mean Lego Batman 2 is still my favourite game out of them all (as of now). Pretty sure I faked a si...

Recommendations for dryer wines coming from someone that likes sweeter wine?

3h ago

I made another post but deleted. I dont want to spend a lot on researching what I like. I dont like over syrupy sweet wines. I do think fruit forward would be the way to go for now. I will be drinking all wine cold. Not looking for red wine at this point. Google recommends sauvignon blanc, pinot gris, or a off dry reisling. What brands are good under $20 so Im not spending a ton. Im open to more kinds. I am looking to probably get several bottles. No wine stores around. Just liquor stores and grocery stores. No knowledgeable liquor stores.

Where can I find powdered camel milk, imported from China or otherwise?

The PetPlace article that made me realize I had no idea what I was doing

3h ago

I got a Beagle puppy named August (Auggie) in September. He has way more energy and disregard for my commands than I ever expected. He chews furniture, nips at me regularly, and sleeps in these chaotic bursts that seem to happen at random. Bathroom breaks feel like marathons because he tries to eat literally everything off the ground. Raising him has somehow felt harder than raising my human son. I thought I could handle it easily, since I’ve spent the last 7 years as EIC at [PetPlace.com](http://PetPlace.com), editing and writing thousands of dog behavior articles. Then I read this classic piece from Dr. Nicolas Dodman: [Attention-Seeking Behavior of Dogs](https://www.petplace.com/article...

Rocket Appartamento TCA Water recommendations.

3h ago

I recently bought a TCA in Jan 26. I’ve been using primo filtered water, the type you get from the local grocery store machine that fills the 5 gallon jug. My machine was giving me issues with over filling the boiler and too much water in the steam wand (like 1/4-1/2c within 10s). What type of water should I be using? Note- my tap water is super hard and I get calcium build up on the sink spigots. So I’m concerned using tap water would create more issues in the future.

Can't eat over 1000 calories

3h ago

So 30 5'7 300lbs male I started my journey at 313lbs 8 days ago with a calorie deficit. the first day was rough but it progressively got easier to not eat more than twice a day I reduced my intake to 1000 calories a day as I assumed I have enough fat stores to be fine at that amount. I was doing some research online reading some studies that were done and they were saying that people that ate 1500 calories a day had better long term results than those that ate 1000 so I decided to up the amount I am eating to give myself the best chance at success. The problem I am having is I am just not hungry enough to eat more than twice a day I dont want food like my body is fine with what I am c...

Why Is Changing How We Power the World So Hard?

3h ago

Replacing the world’s engine while it is still running Framing the Question The energy transition sounds simple when reduced to a slogan: stop using dirty energy and use clean energy instead. But changing how we power the world is not like swapping a battery; it is more like replacing the foundation of a building while everyone is still living inside. The question matters because it reveals a basic truth about large systems: the best answer on paper is rarely the easiest answer in reality. Why This Question Matters Here is the answer: changing how we power the world is hard because energy is not one industry. It is the hidden input behind every industry. Electricity, heat, transport, ...

RidgePacker app assistance.

3h ago

Hey r/Backpacking, I built an iPhone and iPad app called RidgePacker for hikers who actually plan what goes in their pack. I'm not a developer Im an elevator mechanic. Ive been using AI for everything. It’s been a super fun project. RidgePacker is one of those. I'd like an honest read from this sub on whether I’ve missed something or if there was a feature that I should add. What it does: \- Master gear catalog. Every piece of gear with a photo, brand and model, weight, sack or pocket location, and notes. Link out to the product page so re-orders are one tap. \- Per-trip packing lists built from the catalog. Pick items, check them off as you pack. The header runs packe...

Sri Lankan food is objectively better than most of its neighbors yet nobody talks about it globally, why does our cuisin...

3h ago

Is it because we're a small island? Bad marketing? The economic crisis killing our global image? Or do we just not advocate for ourselves enough? I genuinely want to know why are we sleeping on promoting one of the most underrated cuisines in the entire world and whose fault is it? Sri Lankan food has everything which are layers of spice, coconut, fresh seafood, unique techniques that are thousands of years old. Yet when people talk about Asian cuisine globally, we're barely a footnote. Indian food gets all the credit, Thai food has its own section in every supermarket, but Sri Lankan?

Update: Was down to fumes, made it through the weekend and pulled a few damage control moves

3h ago

Quick update from last week when I was literally watching the gas needle and panicking about getting to work. I ended up getting through the last three shifts at my old job without missing any time. What actually helped: I called my manager and asked if I could start 45 minutes earlier so I could carpool with a coworker who lives nearby. I felt awkward asking, but he was totally fine with it. After I got paid I handed the coworker a few bucks in cash for gas. I also tried to cut trips by combining errands and stopped driving across town to my usual store. I start the new job this week and it is closer, so that should save a lot on gas. Still, I am in the place where one small surpris...
