RE: Dev Bias - Understanding Explicit and Implicit Bias

41m ago

In response to [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/foxholegame/comments/1tmhinr/max_response_to_dev_bias/) and specifically Max's response, I wanted to take a minute to underscore the differences between explicit and implicit bias and give some real world examples. I'll start out by saying that I am a 15 year healthcare veteran. I have been in management/leadership positions in healthcare since 2019, and managing pharmacies in the retail (community), specialty and compounding settings. In healthcare, implicit bias training became a larger thing in the late 2010s. While I'm far from an expert on the subject, it is something that I have been conscious of for the better part of...

Produce going bad fast?

42m ago

Idk if this is an issue because of the climate here in Ohio, a storage issue by grocery stores or if produce is held much longer in warehouses here but since moving to northeast Ohio from central Texas 2 months ago none of my produce lasts more than a couple of days. I've shopped at Walmart, Giant Eagle, Acme and Marcs and everything molds or goes bad really fast. For instance onions and potatoes are getting, soft and moldy in under 5 days, these are things that should last weeks when properly stored in a cool dry place

37-year-old bloke trying to figure out how adults make friends

42m ago

36-year-old bloke trying to figure out how adults make friends Not sure if this is a midlife crisis or just me realising I’ve accidentally become someone whose entire social life is nodding at other dads in supermarket aisles. I’m 36, in a long-term relationship, got two kids (14 & 18), and for the last however many years my whole life has basically been work, family, school runs, bills, and pretending I know how to use an air fryer properly. I’ve got a small group of close mates from school, but they all live miles away now, so most of our interaction is sending each other Instagram reels and saying “we need to sort a night out soon” roughly every 6 months until one of ...

Any Reading founders / freelancers / makers fancy a small dinner at Vino Vita?

43m ago

Hey - bit of a niche one. I’m putting together a small monthly dinner in Reading for founders, freelancers, makers, business owners, and people building something of their own. It’s called Founder Foodies Reading, and the idea is pretty simple: 8-10 people, good food, no pitching, no awkward networking, and no “tell us your elevator pitch” stuff. Just a relaxed dinner with people who are building things, thinking about building something, freelancing, running a small business, working on a side project, etc. The first one is at Vino Vita in central Reading on Tuesday 9th June, 7-9ish. I’ve booked their private wine tasting room for the meal, so it should be a nice setup. Thoug...

#3 05.24.26 Seven Three Motel. Part Two.

44m ago

The worker gave me the key for room 104 “free of charge” even though I already paid seventy three dollars for it earlier, he said since I was so “Out of it”, he’d comp my room charge. His description, not mine. However, he wasn’t wrong, I know how confused I feel so I imagine I look a **** of a lot more confused than that. I wasn’t sure what was going on but my bag was missing from my room when I returned. My most concerning problem is the day, not the bag. I can replace the clothing, which is all it was but I know for a fact that my flight took off on Sunday, so somehow I flew out on Sunday and landed on Saturday? That doesn’t make any sense given the time, It has to be toda...

[RF] Set Sail

44m ago

It’s been almost a year since I last saw Dad - he’s taken to the concept of island time but I don’t blame him.  After more than a few months of less than a few texts, I figured it was time to go and see the old man.  A moment or two passes leaving the Jacksonville airport when the stiff summer air hits me like it always does, full of lethargy you see in the locals here, like my Dad. Settled down but still transient. The big man pulled up as he usually does. Windows down, Skynyrd playing, a half smile ready to beam at the worst jokes.  I threw my bag in the back and hopped in the front, awkwardly reaching across the seatbelt to give one of those awkward hugs when there’s not enou...

Built an app to fix the "where are you??" problem in group hangouts

44m ago

Been building this on the side for a while and finally feel like it's at a point worth sharing. The problem it solves: every group hangout involves a chaotic period where everyone is texting their ETA in a group chat, nobody knows if the restaurant is still open, and the person who was "5 minutes away" 20 minutes ago has gone silent. I got tired of it. **MeetEasy** puts everyone in a shared room with a live map. You see everyone's location, their ETA to wherever you're meeting, and whether they've actually left yet. When you're ready to decide on a spot, there's a venue voting system so the group can actually agree on something instead of the loudest...

Effanbee Doll (Maybe)

44m ago

I desperately need help identifying this doll. My mom was born in 1943, and she can’t remember exactly how old she was when her Daddy gave her this doll. I have picture she has of the Doll (and a few I took when we found the doll in her attic), with her and her Daddy in the picture with it. The boy doll and a matching girl doll came out at the same time. She knows they were sold in our local Five & Dime Store the Christmas that she got the doll. She loved that doll so much because she loved her Daddy, and knew that he had worked extra hard to get it for her. My Mom just turned 83 years old in April. She lost her Daddy in 2000, and she was his baby until the day he drew his l...

Small UK golf apparel brand targeting US market, struggling to convert traffic to sales, any advice?

46m ago

Hey everyone, My brother and I started a golf apparel brand called 9Under Golf. We design minimalist performance golf wear, no loud logos, no gimmicks, and ship from the US via print on demand. We’ve been running for a few months and here’s where we’re at: •6 x 5 star reviews •15 creators with kit sent out including PGA pros and golf content creators with millions of views •Content starting to drop on Instagram •Around 90 followers on Instagram •1,210 website sessions but only 9 sales so far (mostly friends and family) Our conversion rate is low and we’re yet to get a real stranger sale. Would love advice from anyone who’s grown...

I had a Big Lots vacate a shopping center I own in Jacksonville, FL. Here's the behind the scene walk through of ...

46m ago

# Behind the Scenes of a Vacant Big Lots: What Owners Actually Analyze After a Box Store Goes Dark I recently toured a vacant Big Lots in Jacksonville, Florida that Saglo Companies owns in the Mandarin submarket near San Jose Boulevard and Old St. Augustine Road. Instead of just looking at it as “30,000 SF vacant,” I wanted to walk through the actual thought process owners and leasing teams go through when evaluating how to reposition a former big-box space. A lot of people outside retail CRE see a dark anchor and assume it’s a disaster. In reality, the first question is usually: > This particular Big Lots had some characteristics that actually make redevelopment and re-tena...

The journey has begun for Queen Freddie Mercury (aka Fred)

47m ago

Age 5 1/2. Starting weight 17.5lbs. Currently 16.9lbs. Goal 11lbs. Fred was the tiniest little kitten - the runt left under a house by her mom. She's very food insecure, I think because of that? She still eats so quickly that she'll sometimes regurgitate shortly after. Fred is fully indoors with three other girls, who are all within healthy weight (I've got my eye on the youngest though - She's 1/2lb too heavy.) She's been like this even since it was just her + 1. \*\*\*I'm sharing Fred's acute medïcãl condition in detail before I share the start of her dechonking journey, in case anyone encounters the same. (IG flagged that word) I took Fred to the ve...

Never got food and can’t contact anyone

49m ago

I placed an order for delivery of 1 pizza 5 hours ago. I have not gotten the food yet and the store isn’t answering the phone I’ve tried to cancel many times. My car is getting the brakes done so it’s in the shop and cannot go over to pick it up. Is this normal? I’ve called every number I can find and sent a claim to get a refund but the email basically just said sorry with no information. Is there a way I can speak to a person and not a computer that will hang up after telling to call the store that won’t answer or an email address I can send something to that won’t just say “sorry”)

She Hid Under a Tank to Give Birth… But the Water Was Toxic 😭

49m ago

This is the heartbreaking rescue of a homeless street dog who was just trying to be a good mother. She found a dark, hidden spot under an office tank to give birth to her newborn puppies, completely unaware of the hidden danger—the water pooling underneath was toxic and dangerous for her newborn babies. Nobody knew she was down there until we heard faint cries and investigated. What we found broke our hearts: an exhausted, terrified mother dog huddled on the damp, muddy ground, desperately trying to keep her wet puppies safe from the toxic environment. Watch the touching moment we pull this helpless stray dog and her beautiful newborn puppies out from under the cramped concrete tank an...

Texas Writer League

49m ago

Went to the Texas Writer League meeting yesterday. I wasn't aware of them before this. There were a couple of speakers but it turned into a networking event. JE Warr from a group called Local Authors Only was one of the "Captains" who basically led the meeting. This seems to be a state wide event that they hold in several cities around the state. Local Authors is under a nonprofit. They are sort of a marketing company. JE is one of the local writers here in town and part of the writers workshop at the local library. We are all trying to figure out how to sell our books. JE Warr started this with the idea of bringing back book racks in stores. Otherwise known as spinners. So...

I am 21 (male) and have never had a job. How do I go about getting one?

50m ago

I've managed to get by on a small amount I had my parents send me for groceries and living with family members up until now. While I enjoy the freedom of being unemployed I really want to move out on my own and inflation is making that amount I already feel lucky to receive for food not able to cover basic groceries anymore. I literally stay shut in all the time minus going on walks and stuff like that. I don't go out and do anything because any additional expense from say going out with friends for lunch can lead to being out of food money at the end of the month. I worry about food costs and sit around hungry way too much. In which case what's even the point of having "...

ICSC Florida Conference 2025 top take aways from an Owner/Operator that's been in the business 25 years.

50m ago

# ICSC Florida 2025: Full Recap, Deep Analysis & What CRE Professionals Are Missing ICSC Florida 2025 felt noticeably more optimistic than 2024. Transaction activity is improving. Leasing volume is up. Retailers are still aggressively expanding. Capital is actively chasing grocery-anchored and necessity-based retail. And despite all the headlines around retail bankruptcies, the sentiment inside the industry was far more constructive than what you might expect from reading mainstream media. I attended the conference as an owner-operator that has spent more than 25 years in retail commercial real estate. Saglo Companies owns and operates shopping centers across Florida, Georgia, and...
