I **** being so reliant on my partner

1h ago

I (29F) feel like I am now entirely reliant on my boyfriend (36M). We have a house together and have since before my seizures began last year. He has always made significantly more money than me throughout our relationship, so he pays the mortgage and utilities, and I pay for groceries/household goods, the pets food/vet, and the little small things here and there when we go out. Ultimately both of our money is “shared” but we don’t have a shared bank account. Anyway, I am no longer working because I cannot drive, and every week that goes by since my last paycheck, I am getting more and more stressed. My boyfriend has started to pick up some of the expenses I usually pay for, but I’...

Best weekend plan for late-20s lads in Leeds?

1h ago

Got a few mates (mid-late 20s) coming to visit me in Leeds for the weekend. They’ve never been before, and I haven’t done loads of nights out here either, so I’m trying to line up a good experience. Looking for recommendations for a full day → night plan, ideally: • Good daytime spots (food, chill pubs, anything worth seeing/doing) • A decent Spoons to start the night (we like to get a few cheap ones in before heading somewhere livelier) • Lively bars with a good atmosphere after that We’re not after anything too posh / snobby / overpriced. Bonus points if there’s anywhere playing US rap / trap / hip hop to end the night rather than just chart music. Would appreciate...

Grabbing the attention of the audience

1h ago

Hi, to graduate I have to do a senior project, and a big part of that is a speech/powerpoint presentation. We have to do it on what career we want to pursue, and I want to be an attorney. My teacher wants us to do a hook or something cool to make people interested. She gave off past examples like someone who wanted to be a nurse anesthetist bring equipment in and showing us a very basic skill, someone who wanted to be a nutritionist showing off unlikely healthy foods and surprisingly unhealthy foods, and a speech therapist making one of their friends chew 3 pieces of gum and read a sentence, then only chew 1 piece of gum and re-read it, showing progress that people can achieve with speech th...

Food Bank

1h ago

I've been interested in going to the local food pantry...my husband and I do alright, but I'm pregnant and had to stop working because I'm very high risk. My husband picked up a part-time second job to help us feel secure still. There's a local food pantry in town, I've never been but I've been interested in it. I would just feel kinda guilty I guess? Because we don't technically need the assistance, but with the price of groceries just going once or twice a month would be really nice.

Jimmy Corporate, do better.

They ran out of Gyro meat before the end of the LTO's timeline. They extended it an additional month. Then proceeded to run out of Gyro meat days after it came back in stock. They told us they were sorry and multiple water main breaks caused problems. . . after they ran out again. They knew we were never going to make it more than a week longer than the planned period but decided to apologize after the fact instead of telling us. This isn't some mom and pop local store, it's a (now) international chain. Please for the love of all that is holy act like it.

Returning Thanksgiving Eve from 15 day cruise

1h ago

Imagine returning from a 15- Day Caribbean cruise the day before Thanksgiving. No we did not think of the date when we booked, unfortunately. Would love suggestions on how everyone would prepare, food-wise. Our local supermarket will be closed on the holiday (Publix) thus we are stuck with whatever we buy before we leave. We do have a pet sitter but I would not impose on him to grocery shop for us. I am thinking of a frozen turkey he could transfer from the freezer to the fridge a few days before we get home. And a box of stuffing, and butter. I do have friday off work, thank goodness! Thanks everyone!

Pleaseee, realy need feedback (on writing style, story, does it sound interesting at all?)

Lars sank with a deep sigh into the worn leather armchair that had been his faithful companion after long workdays for years. Friday evening. Finally. This week had dragged on forever. His job as a data analyst at Hartwell & Associates was genuinely interesting. Columns of numbers told their own stories, revealing patterns and secrets others overlooked. But interesting did not make it any less exhausting. A dull ache pulsed rhythmically through his skull, as if someone were tapping a tiny hammer against his temples. Eight hours in front of three monitors, squinting against the bluish glow while the world outside moved on without him. All he wanted now was silence. To switch off for...

[Star-spangled Republic] April-June 1846 | Secession Crisis amidst Anglo-American War

1h ago

In April, the British navy would successfully capture the naval base at Norfolk, Virginia. Senator John C. Calhoun and other southern leaders would express concern to each other, and meet in Charleston to discuss what to do. In early May, Calhoun would draft a letter to be given to the officer in charge of the occupation of Norfolk. The letter would arrive by May 8, 1846, with the following details: * The British land and naval forces would recognize the independence of South Carolina, and any other state that chose to declare independence from the United States. * South Carolina and associated states will provide food and safe passage through its land, and in exchange, the British will pro...

99 cent chicken meets French Bistro

1h ago

Found a half chicken for 99¢/lb and mushrooms on qfc manager special $1.24, so I challenged myself to turn it into something that felt more like a French bistro dinner than a budget meal. Ended up feeding my wife and myself for around $5 total. Shifting Stars

**Rorad** My eyes flickered open, greeted by warm rays of sunlight streaking in through the window, and a pesky alarm. I stretched my tail, my arms, my legs, my neck, and I let out a happy chirp as my back gave a satisfying crack. That always felt good. If I couldn’t enjoy sleep, I could at least enjoy the morning ritual. I performed a cursory stretch of my patagia and glided over to my clothing box, picking out a hefty utility pouch and wrapping it around my waist. When I got to work, I’d be able to put on some more clothing for safety, but I wasn’t looking for an altercation with the Surveillance Corps. As I moved to close the box, my eyes lingered on a *qlyquik* resting at the bot...

Weird *** field trips

1h ago

My kids are in college and I was thinking about the field trips they went on in elementary and middle school compared to ours. Everything was very historical - Frontier Culture Museum, trips to DC. Although they did visit a jail (very small town - more like a drunk tank). I lived in Virginia - so we went to all the historic places. We had Safety Town (we learned bicycle and pedestrian safety in a miniature version of a town). We went on a fossil dig (if you found a certain item, you got a free Coke). I think we went to a farm too. But then there were some things we should not have done like visiting a butcher at a grocery store in elementary school. I have vague memories of meat hanging ...

Advice/Opinion Appreciated

1h ago

I am looking to move to Chicago in October (date flexible). I want to spend no more than 1800-1850/month on a studio or one bedroom. I want to be close to River North as I go to law school part time and want to be close to Loyola’s water tower campus. My main asks are a more modern place/high rise with at least laundry on site and walkable to grocery stores/shops/etc. but I am unsure if that is reasonable with my budget. I know it’s still early before October but I am wondering if my asks are reasonable or if I am going to have to look further away. If you know of any great places I would appreciate that too! Thanks ◡̈

I regret not inviting more people to my birthday party.

1h ago

I turned 30 on cinco day mayo/taco Tuesday so naturally I had a fun taco night get together at my apartment. I don’t have many close friends, so I was stressing who to invite. I also planned to have food catered, so I didnt want to make it too big and make it super expensive. I basically overthought my whole party and really dropped the ball on inviting people. I get really socially anxious sometimes. I was worried about mixing friend groups, worried people wouldn’t wanna hang on a Tuesday, worried people wouldn’t want to come to my bday, etc. I had put in a catering order for 10 people and it did end up being 10 of us. But as it got closer to my party, one of my other friends (who...

The Boys Farmers Market, Joseph's Classic Market, and Generoso's (Parkland)

1h ago

Hi, folks. I am planning to drive down from the Orlando area to visit my family in Kendall (South Miami), and I always like stopping at Italian delis and markets and bougie grocery stores in Broward and Palm Beach Counties to stock up on interesting mustards and tinned seafood I can't find back home, as well as to treat myself to good Italian subs. I've been to Carmine's Gourmet Market in Palm Beach Gardens and a couple of different Doris Italian Market locations before, but for my next trip, I'm planning to hit The Boys Farmers Market and Joseph's Classic Market on my way down, since they seem to be close to each other in Delray. Are those good choices for ...
