Japanese food and obesity

1h ago

Excuse me if i may sound oblivious. The famous japanese food that most of us foreigners know about seems to be fried, full of rice or noodles which are all calorie dense. Things like karaage, katsu, tonkatsu, noodles, some of the sushis and kewpiee mayo are very high in calories. Not to mention, desserts are sweet as. How does japan have very low obesity rates? What does the typical japanese eat? Are there other japnese foods that are not as famous that are healthier and lower in calories? Thanks in advance

Why counting recovery in days is neurologically harmful

1h ago

We have been measuring our recovery by our streak of days in a row of not doing the bad thing. That is what we tell ourselves when we open the day counting app and check the number, when we collect the chip, when we introduce ourselves by how many days we have. We think we are tracking progress, congratulating ourselves for how far we have come, measuring how recovered we are by the distance we have put between ourselves and the last time we drank or used. It feels like a scoreboard in our favor. But being “in recovery" isn't supposed to last forever. We heal, we grow, we learn, eventually we're recovered and go on living a healthy life — avoiding what may have caused the ...

34-minute ticket time for one patty and a little fries

1h ago

Placed my order as I was checking out at the Target next door, then walked into the restaurant less than five minutes later. Was looked at and ignored by the cooks while the manager/cashier was holding court about the scandalous behavior of an employee named Trina who had recently been fired. I picked up a cup as if to say “can I just take it…” and still couldn’t get a reaction out of the employees. So I went to fill a coke, and the cashier comes around the corner talkin bout “you gonna pay for that, buddy?” I was still in a good mood at this point. I thought I’d let him off the hook with a little humor. “Oh thank god I thought I was a ghost for a second.” Just a blank s...

OHHHH LOOK AT THIS, another fresh-baked CONTENT BABY dropping straight into the influencer meat grinder! Jaclyn Singletary Gibson—yeah, that cabin-dwelling, ultrasound-waving, “trad wife” cosplayer—has officially announced baby #5 like it’s a limited-edition drop on her Shopify store. “Expanding her family!” screams People magazine’s exclusive (because nothing says “journalism” like pimping out a pregnant influencer’s womb for clicks). She’s standing there in her little white crop-top, hand on the bump, hubby holding the current cash-cow infant, while the other three props sit on the porch like sad little lawn ornaments. And where are they all gonna sleep? In that cr...

We built a WooCommerce archive page that shows different badges per product automatically. Here's how (no code, vid...

1h ago

Default WooCommerce archive pages work fine, but they're generic. Every store gets the same layout, and surfacing custom product attributes usually means either custom code or giving up. We put together a tutorial showing how to use Beaver Builder's Loop Module with Beaver Themer and Advanced Custom Fields to build something more useful. The working example is an RC car store where each product has two custom attributes: power source (gas or electric) and top speed. The archive page shows a gas can badge, a lightning bolt badge, or a speedometer badge automatically based on that data. You design the card once, and conditional logic handles which badges show up for each product. T...

Scene 1 (Carter and Merk begin to wake up and get dressed) Carter: Hmm. (Gets up) Perri: Wow. Ghost me in my own home. Carter: I was so not ghosting you. I was gonna— Perri: Uhh huh. Carter: I-I, I wasn’t gonna just leave. I was gonna like… Perri: Mhhm. Carter: I was gonna leave a note or… Perri: A note? Carter: I was not gonna just leave. Perri: I know. Breathe. Carter: You got jokes. Perri: Hey, uh, you wanna go out and get some food or something? There’s this new Jamaican brunch spot that just opened up down the block. Carter: Listen, I’d love to, but I gotta kind of get back home to my dog. Perri: Well, that sounds like a lie. Carter (pulls out phone): There he...

Review of Nightmarena by Colo Coko

**Details ======** Game: Nightmarena Developer: Colo Coko Publisher: Psychronic Games Steam Link: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/3666030/Nightmarena/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3666030/Nightmarena/) Price: £4.99, currently £3.99 for launch Review summary: Much as I would like to be able to praise Nightmarena for its ambition and innovative enemy design, technical limitations and a general lack of polish lead to a frustrating experience which is not worth the (extremely kind) price of entry. **Full review ======** In Nightmarena you play as near-faceless karate enthusiast Gerald Ventures, a warrior of the Church of Jaysi who is tasked by said church to retrieve a magic...

WHY is everyone so ... SOUR?

1h ago

Seriously. I've been working at Menards for six months now and pretty much everyone I work with just walks around scowling. No hello, no acknowledgment of coworkers' presence outside of the department. Gruff on the walky. Gruff on the phone. Like ... I've had plenty of jobs over the years. I always have a side hustle, which right now is Menards, but I've also been in professional employment for the last 20 years. *Always* had good/collegial, even fun, relationships with coworkers in all types of organizations (retail, gas stations, food service, you name it), so I know it's not me. But I have *never* worked with such a sour bunch of people in my life as I have at M...

I **** my life and I don’t know what to do anymore.

1h ago

I **** my life. Like really **** it. I dont feel grateful for the things I have even though I should. My life just isn’t what I want it to be and I don’t know what to do to change it. I’m a mother to a 2 year old, and primary parent. My partner doesn’t live with us. If he moved in I would lose all entitlement to the benefits I’m on (apart from child benefit and PIP) but honestly, I’m pretty sure that even if that weren’t the case he wouldn’t move in with us. He’s a great dad and plays with our child and has him at his house once a week (8pm- morning). I do the more boring stuff- nappies, washing, food shopping, meals for my son, bath time, bedtime, brushing teeth and s...

A chilled out, friendly swan

1h ago

This big guy, or girl, came over to me while I was walking through a local park. It probably thought I had food but sadly there have been cases of bird flu, so we’re not able to feed them at the minute. He was super friendly though, we spent a few minutes figuring out that neither of us were hostile to each other

I'm worried that I'm setting myself up to be cold and soulless in the future

1h ago

Heads up, I wrote a lot, sorry. Does anyone relate, and what do you do to improve? I've been told multiple times already that I'm too logical and cold. For context, I'm 18f. When trying to have deep conversations with people, it's ended in ways where they've expressed their emotions in such a beautiful and sophisticated way, and I can only express things literally and "as they are". In the last couple years I've gotten better - I used to be awkward and struggle with social skills, I would offer people advice when they would have preferred to be consoled, which caused them to feel like their feelings were invalidated. Now I am more mindful of such th...

Staneel's Cheesy Errand

I craved a breakfast sandwich one early morning. With a hop, skip, and a jump, I left my bed, showered, and readied myself for the day. I tuned my radio to a station for city pop, my favourite genre, and waltzed into my kitchen. Moving with an almost zen level of grace to the music, I gathered the ingredients for my sandwich, as the Sun shimmered through the windows like a rejuvenating limelight. With the most intuitive sense of rhythm I've ever had, I grabbed my whole wheat bread, turkey bacon strips, honey ham slices, a couple of eggs, and a stick of margarine. I set everything on my island with the agility of a professional card-dealer, and saw that one vital ingredient remained: c...

The Arborlanche

According to the University of Vermont, a mature Sugar Maple can produce as many as 200,000 leaves in a single season. The town of Mt. Enos was set in a sea of these trees which stretched for miles across the hills, rolling high up onto the mountain from which the town took its name. Memories of my childhood in that small town feel different from the rest of my life. Enchanted, beguiling, whatever the word might be. The forest was a constant, nearly magical presence in our lives; imposing itself on every horizon. People would tell stories of nymphs who planted the unfathomably massive orchard. Stories of beasts which clung to tall trunks with vicious claws, waiting to drop on any who wand...

I (27F) am really missing my toxic ex (29M), even though I feel so free without him and we were driving each other down ...

1h ago

I don’t really know what to say, but I do want someone unbiased to commiserate with. A year ago I got back together with my ex after breaking up after Christmas ‘24. I tried to make it work and was so excited to get back together, I really missed him and loved (and still do love) him. However, after a couple months back together, he was getting disrespectful and manipulative during arguments again. I knew we needed to breakup for around 4 months before I actually did it, I think I just felt so bad for breaking up with him again and so guilty for dragging us and our families both down this road again. So this last December, I really didn’t want to break up with him almost a year to...
