1st Year Pond Questions and Concerns

3h ago

TL, DR: This is a new pond, and I need to chill, right? This year I joined lots of pond groups, did tons of research, and got to work.  I landed on a 150 gallon pre-formed that would fit in the space exactly how I wanted. I live in the US, Appalachia, Zone 7. My PRIMARY goals are to attract frogs without booming mosquitos. Over the last few months, I dug the hole, built a retaining wall with overflow drainage, packed sand, topsoil, filled with regular hose water, and stirred and let it sit to de-chlorinate for a few weeks. Then, I planted a few things around the outside, some random natural decorations and some froggy-hidey-holes. I installed the solar-power oxygenator, since...

Dog & Rat Poison

3h ago

Hi! My dog has been to the vet and is being treated, but I’m still unclear and would like some outside perspective. My boy is 13, 34.5lbs, a mutt of poodle, terrier and everything else sprinkled in. (According to Wisdom Panel) 23 hours ago we found a small piece of what we believe to be rat poison in our dog’s mouth and brought him to the vet within about 20 minutes. Since the poison type was unknown, he is being treated for the 3 main types of rat poison exposure. (We don’t use rat poison at all in our yard, so it wasn’t from us) At the vet he was induced to vomit, given charcoal and subcutaneous fluids, and monitored for 3.5 hours. We were told his bloodwork looked good overall,...

Dan Rather: Trump's Iran War Is A "Humiliating" Defeat, And The Damage Is "Near Irreversible"

3h ago

*The Strait of Hormuz is closed. Allies are gone. Iran's regime stands. Trump still posts "victory."* # What Nobody Tells You Dan Rather's Substack essay names the scoreboard cable news won't. Twelve weeks in, the Strait of Hormuz, 20% of global energy trade, is shut. European allies view us with "suspicion at best, derision at worst." Iran's regime is intact. Russia and China, per Rather, are "grinning." Trump's April 9 Truth Social post called it a "real victory." The waterway never opened. # Why It Actually Matters A narrative cannot reopen a strait. Every week Trump sells "winning," your gas, grocery, and heat...

Update on being homeless with my epileptic husband (Not exactly a good one)

3h ago

Okay so, we’ve gotten discharged from the hospital (They didnt keep us in as long as I thought), The Social Worker at the hospital tried her absolute hardest to help us out and direct us in the right path but the only thing she could offer was a free 30 day script of Keppra and Depakote (which is going to help a bit in the meantime). We were unable to find a shelter to accommodate the both of us, She could only refer us to “Day Centers” and tell us to sleep outside them during the times they were closed lol. We were able to make an appointment with the healthcare unit and get a date to go in to sign him up for Insurance. We are back outside, and its going to rain soon which *****, w...

anyone else notice Memorial Day seemed to be "a bust" this year due to the high gas prices?

3h ago

So I live in a decently big apartment complex (at least 200 units), with 3 decent-sized parking lots. I live on the 3rd floor so I have a pretty good vantage point on the two closest parking lots I couldn't help but notice that all 3 parking lots were pretty full yesterday - implying that a lot of people stayed home or didn't do much. I stayed home myself other than an afternoon run to the grocery store to pick up a few things Last year (2025) I remember the 3 parking lots were about 35% full on Memorial Day, implying that people went out to do stuff. But yesterday I took a walk around the block around 3 PM and noted that all 3 parking lots seemed to be about 80% full on Memorial...

ROOTS BENEATH CENTRAL PARK

3h ago

In 1825, a Black shoeshiner purchased a plot of land in Manhattan. Soon, Seneca Village became New York’s first free Black community. It prospered: families built homes, churches, schools; businesses thrived. It became a haven for those seeking hope, equality, and peace. This story is inspired by what came after Spring sunlight spills across the dusty churchyard, warm and forgiving. Underneath a tall wise oak tree that sits at the edge of the churchyard, children laugh. Rope slaps earth, their voices ride the breeze. It is a good day - like most days. Ruth Davis steps out of the church with a slate board tucked under her arm. She closes her eyes and draws in a slow, intentional breath, th...

AITA for not wanting to be around my best friends husband anymore?

3h ago

I’ve been a fan of watching people read reddit stories but this is my first time actually posting. Please be kind and bear with me if i don’t articulate well. I (24f) and my best friend Jessica (30f) have been friends for a little over five years now. She has been married to James (29m) for seven years now. I met Jessica through work and we instantly clicked. We got extremely close and I eventually met her husband, James. I thought he was a really cool guy! He was also down to have deep conversations over drinks with us, always down to go wherever we were going, and all around was a fun person to be around. Over the course of the next few years, James and I formed our own bond and it ...

Is/was 14 months a very challenging time for anyone else?

3h ago

My LO is amazing and it brings me so much joy watching her grow, but man oh man, is she putting me through it! For starters, we are pretty much always sick. She started daycare 2 days a week earlier this year and we have had multiple colds, pink eye, and most recently, a brutal stomach bug that had us take her to the ER. She has also been throwing temper tantrums and screaming at the top of her lungs to express her dislike for something, such as diaper changes, clothing changes, getting into the car seat, the whole car ride, and the list goes on. Everything is just very loud and chaotic right now and I’m finding myself depleted most days. Don’t even get me started on the **** show that i...

Guide on Raising your Rating

3h ago

Hi everyone, Catgirl again here to make a guide on raising your rating. There's four main ways to raise your rating. Straight up leveling, Memory Board, Titles, and Gardens # Leveling # Leveling is pretty self explanatory- when you get more stats, your character's rating goes up. Things to note are- P nekos (powerful) **tend to** have more rating than others. 5 stars tend to have more rating than 3-4 stars. Small example, my level 140 Marmelo (4 star buffer) has 389k rating, my level 140 Ak Dut (5 star Powerful) has 524k rating. Big difference. Awakening and limit breaking your nekos will also get you a bunch of rating. Leveling your neko's skills is important and is act...

You Will Own Nothing and Be... Miserable!

3h ago

Capitalism champions property rights and then seems HELLBENT on denying you those rights... I don't think we talk about this enough. Has the transition been so slow that no one has noticed? Rent has been a thing since the first fuckwit called himself a landlord BUT... Everything is a subscription service NOW. We no longer pay once for things like your operating system, software, games, connection to the world, and now even food subscription services are everywhere. I want to say it started around 2000 and has just gotten worse. Was it earlier? Things like the 50-year mortgage is a clear indicator that you're never meant to actually own your home, just pay on it forever. That...

Im so lost dude(tw near the end)

3h ago

Everyone seems to have it figured out. “You dont know whats going on at home”. Still. They have consistent friends who ask how theyre doing and they share so openly it makes me jealous. And it doesn’t even end when I come home, my older brother is so good at school and he has so many friends, as well as being on the varsity soccer team and multiple clubs. I got yelled at by my dad a bit ago because I quit a club. And of course I cried again. My embarrassment never ends. My little brother also has a ton of friends, and he’s at the middle school i went to(which basically caused all my problems) and hes like a fish in water. He hangs out with his friends all the time and he plays for PS...

[FN] [HR] Beachfront Horror

Part I: \~Hunting\~ The kissing was so good I forgot, for a moment, where we were, but like I said, the kissing was really good, so I wasn’t exactly worried about where I woke up. Then a warm breeze carried in the scent of ocean water and sunscreen. Oh yes, I remember now. I slap my husband and ask “what time is it?” It was so late when we made it to the air b and b last night that I couldn’t remember where we left our phones. “It’s a little past seven.” Rick answered. “We got time.” He added, going in for more kisses.  “K, but I wanna stop for coffee on the- “ he cut me off before I could finish what I was saying. We pull up to the first house on our list. It...

Wet food vs dry food, which one works better for your dog?

3h ago

Choosing between wet food and dry food is something every dog owner deals with at some point. Both have their own benefits, and what works best usually depends on your dog’s needs and lifestyle. Dry food, or kibble, is popular because it is convenient, affordable, and easy to store. It also helps with dental health since the crunchiness can reduce plaque buildup. Many owners prefer it because feeding is simple and mess-free. Wet food, on the other hand, has higher moisture content, which can help dogs that don’t drink enough water. It also tends to smell stronger, which makes it more appealing for picky eaters or older dogs with reduced appetite. Some owners even mix both types ...

Professional Sharpening

Does anyone know a good tool sharpening service in the US? I have a well-used Pfeil set that needs a tune up. It seems too niche for a hardware store and the local woodworking stores sell sharping gear, but do not perform the service.

Business idea in oman

3h ago

I’m exploring a business idea in Oman and would appreciate some feedback. The concept is a mobile app that allows restaurants, bakeries, cafes, hotels, and grocery stores to sell surplus food at discounted prices near closing time or during operations time instead of throwing it away. Customers would be able to browse available items, purchase them through the app, and pick them up directly from the business. Do you think a service like this would work in Oman? I’m also trying to understand the legal and regulatory side before investing time and money into development. What licenses, permits, registrations, approvals, food safety requirements, liability considerations, consumer protec...

Droopy herbs

3h ago

Hello everyone, I’m VERY new to gardening and thought I could start with a few potted herbs to help get me started. However, my mint and basil plants have started to droop significantly. I bought these at a grocery store about a week ago (probably not a great option, but it was convenient). I transferred them the next day to these pots with new potting soil. I’ve been watering daily. The pots do have drainage holes in the bottom. I live in Southern WI where temps have been 60-80F depending on the time of day. They are sitting on my back deck where they get direct sunlight in the afternoons. When it was cold, I did bring them into the garage overnight though I’m not sure if that’s nec...

Approaching random women is a waste of time

3h ago

The days of picking up women at the grocery store or even at the bar are pretty much dead unless you look like a gorgeous man. Back in the day when most women only had the attention of a few guys in their neighborhood you could put yourself out there and have a shot. It wasn’t always high but it was relatively decent. Nowadays the most efficient way approach for men is to get in good shape, dress better and take good pictures to maximize your dating app profile. A ton of time and energy is saved when you know off the bat who’s into you and bc of how raw dating apps are women can be as honest as possible. I think that’s a big reason why you’re seeing a large decline in random pickups...
