Anyone else feel prosperous on a low salary?

2h ago

Feeling grateful for the position I’m in, and wanted to ask if anyone could relate. I live in an HCOL urban area. My salary is quite low ($20/hr) but I’m able to pull it off and live comfortably because I have low living expenses. I have no car, debt, or pets/dependants. My monthly rent is $875/month for my own room and private bathroom. My utilities are $75/month. I renewed my lease recently and my rent didn’t go up. The best part is that this comes with a cleaning service every two weeks. They are quite thorough - they clean the light fixtures, they take everything out of the fridge, clean the shelves/inside and wipe down any drips on the bottles, etc. - but it still gets filthy in...

Lollapalooza Brazil 2027 - a guide for foreigners attending (so you don't make my mistakes)

2h ago

# I attended Lollapalooza Brazil in 2026 and had a great time but made a few errors. The below is a guide so you have a great time and do not make the same mistakes as I did. I'll break it down into segments. On a general note, be aware that literally all the information you'll see online from the organisers will be in Portuguese with limited translation into English. Frustratingly, they publish everything on social media in graphic form, so you can't just copy and paste into a translator. You have to paste the whole image into AI to decode it. **Dates** They're already announced for 2027 (March 19, 20 and 21). Lolla Argentina and Chile are the week before. They kee...

limp tail, odd gait

2h ago

Hi all! My cat is 12 years old & has been avoiding jumping on surfaces and as of yesterday, we noticed her walking with her tail like this (excuse the state of her tail, i was washing some dookie out of it, imagine it big and fluffy lol). she doesn’t have a huge appetite, but i’ve been feeding her tuna and treats because food is still food. we took her to the urgent vet & he said worst case scenario is saddle thrombus. nothing will be confirmed until we get her images done hopefully tomorrow. she also will go to the litter robot and just sit in it post using it (hence the poopy tail) I refused pain meds and anti inflammatory meds at the urgent vet because we hadn’t g...

TickTick is awful for checklists (rant + suggestions)

2h ago

My family started using Wunderlist in 2014. It was free, and rock solid for sharing things like travel checklists and grocery lists. We all kept private task lists and notes as well. Microsoft bought Wunderlist in 2015, then spent *five years* rewriting it to use their crappy tech stack. Mostly MS TODO behaves, but the UI glitches, it doesn't always sync properly between platforms, and I've lost data a few times. I started using TickTick a few years ago, and it's been great for so many things, except for that original use case. I now keep MS TODO solely to share checklists with family (they do not use TickTick). I tried migrating our checklists into TT, but it's a much w...

Looking for locally owned restaurants for my parents

2h ago

Over the winter, while living out of town, my parents discovered the joy of eating at entirely locally owned joints and skipping the big corporate places. They already have a few favorites. They absolutely adore Blinkers. They hit Greyhound fairly often. (They live in NKY, if that isn’t obvious.) But that’s kinda the extent of the places they like that are still open. In terms of more commercial places they frequent, they do like the food at Mackenzie River, so something with food along those lines would be a hit. Steaks, seafood, and pasta are always safe bets for them. My mom really liked Carlos Bistro back when it existed and would love to find a locally owned replacement or two. ...

2h ago

WARNING: If you had trouble with mild SA or pet death, please do not read This is a long story, and im not sure how to begin this but for some context, my family is from Eastern Europe, and my immediate family and my uncles family (my mums brother) live in the uk. im currently 17, and I'm going to be 18 in a few months. my mum and my aunt had another kid (my baby cousin is 4 months older than my little sister). i was about to be 14 when they were born. so, for the first reason why i **** my uncle , I think he's a creep sometimes. i only recently thought about it properly as im older and have different experiences now. the first instance i realised he was creep was during summer...

Order wasn’t delivered and DoorDash won’t refund me

2h ago

We ordered over $70 worth of food today and when the driver arrived he only had a small bowl. We immediately told him that this was not our order and he realized it and said I’ll be right back. He tried to go back to the previous delivery he made to retrieve our food 🤦🏽‍♀️ but obviously they wouldn’t answer the door. He came back to inform us but marked the delivery as successful 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. We contacted DoorDash (via phone) and they denied our refund request due to “previous activity on the account”… we have never requested a refund so this just seems like a bogus excuse. If the...

I pulled the campaign finance records on the 3 legislators behind the MA social media ban. It's all Big Cable money...

The Ways & Means Chair who drafted the Massachusetts social media ban, Rep. Aaron Michlewitz, has his fundraisers hosted by the lobbying firm Kearney Donovan & McGee. KDM's clients include Comcast. His most recent payment to KDM, $297.96 for "food for fundraiser," was February 18, 2026. Seven weeks before he filed the bill. [(https://www.ocpf.us/Filers/Index?id=14902)](https://www.ocpf.us/Filers/Index?id=14902) Rep. Alice Peisch, who authored the social media provisions through H.666, expensed $2,135.22 for "NCTA conference mtg w/colleagues" on November 18, 2025. The dates match the NECTA Convention in Newport, the annual conference of the New Engla...

AITAH for telling my mom she missed her chance when she asked to be in the delivery room?

2h ago

I (26F) am currently 34 weeks pregnant with my first baby. My relationship with my mom has been complicated for as long as I can remember. She was never abusive or anything like that but she was emotionally checked out for a lot of my childhood. My parents split when I was nine and after that she kind of just went into survival mode for herself. I raised myself through most of my teenage years, made my own appointments, cooked my own food, figured things out alone. She was physically present but that was about it. As I got older I made peace with it mostly. We're cordial, we talk maybe once a week, I see her on holidays. But we're not close in the way I always wanted us to be and ...

Question as a boyfriend

2h ago

I have been in a relationship with my girlfriend for about 16 months now and whenever there was some type of conflict it was always in the days leading up to menstruation and during it . It was like clockwork and for the past couple months it changed and has been much better With us growing even more inseparable. This past week we had a bit of a heated discussion that lasted almost the whole week now and she’s been dreading me wanting me away saying she doesn’t want a part time boyfriend or someone that’s not there for her son . Last time we had a fight we both talked n said space was what would be helpful during an intense argument so that’s what I thought would help now . I texte...

Just for today: I built a "Digital Sanctuary" to help maintain my center between practices

2h ago

Working with Reiki has taught me so much about the importance of the "vibrational gaps" in our day. It’s easy to feel centered while giving a treatment or during a dedicated self-Reiki session, but it’s much harder when we’re caught in the frantic energy of a 9-to-5 or a stressful commute. I found myself reaching for my phone during these gaps, only to be met with loud news or distracting social feeds that immediately lowered my vibration. I felt called to create something different—a bridge between our practice and our digital lives. I built a minimalist app called **Whimsy: Tiny Daily Rituals**. **How I’ve integrated it with my practice:** * **120-Second "Spar...

Restaurant & liquor tax in St Paul

2h ago

I just ate at a restaurant in St Paul that charged well over 10% tax for food and well over 12% tax for liquor. Is this the norm for eating out these days? I’ve never noticed before. Jeez…glad only one of us was drinking. This might curtail dining out in St Paul for me.

What's with the dogs in grocery stores lately?

2h ago

I just saw an altercation where a guy told off a woman for bringing a dog into Union Market on Union St. Staff eventually kicked him out and let the woman and the dog stay, which was pretty wild. Guess they had to do something as the exchange got pretty heated, with the woman claiming her labradoodle was a service dog, though it clearly wasn't trained to avoid nosing around the food. Anyway, I've noticed a lot of dogs in grocery stores around the neighborhood recently. Does nobody just tie their dog outside anymore? The guy had a point at Union Market -- it's a health code violation. And I've seen dogs do some pretty unclean stuff at stores.

The cross over between frugal living and but jobs is to much.

2h ago

we are trying to make our budget go further like everyone else. we aren't in poverty just bills seem to come faster lately. I have been looking up a lot of recipes to find things we can make on our own. Simple things to start bread soups and sauces. well it means my algorithm changed. Now I get to make it at home because I can make bread with 6 ingredients and the store has 25. or buy this $5000 water filter cause the government puts chemicals in your water. Bulk buy cause the government might put on food rationing like during WW2 and you don't want the government dictating what you can eat. It is annoying. I bulk buy it because a restaurant size bag of flour is cheaper ...

Cat tail down & odd gait

Hi all! it won’t let me share the video on the post. I refused pain meds and anti inflammatory meds at the urgent vet because we hadn’t gotten any blood work to tell us her kidneys ar...

Is being NC the right choice for myself and my daughter?

3h ago

\*\*\*My husband and I are both in therapy.\*\*\* So my husband (39m) and I (29f) have been married for almost 8 years and have 1 child (2f). Sorry this is so long, I tried to give back story with relevant information and situations over the last 8 years. My MIL has always had extreme boundary issues and control issues. My husband is in the military so we do not live near family. But we met before he joined and our families live in the same town, just a few minutes drive from each other. While my husband was in training when he joined the military, I stayed in our hometown and went out if my way to build a relationship with his mother the best way I knew how. I tried to do things that s...

Alec Baldwin, the Actor-Activist, and his wife Hillary ‘Hilaria’ Baldwin, the Health and Wellness Expert & Y...

3h ago

**The Baldwins talk healthy eating, and a healthy planet** All this long audio is a **master** **class** in **virtue** **signaling** — Alec keeps insisting that we need to be “educated” about the dangers of eating meat or using single‑use plastics and straws 🙄. It is so annoyingly hypocritical that I turned it into a video to show—through pictures—just how satirical and ridiculously frivolous their attempt to “educate” us on a UN platform really looks. Brief overview of main points (IMHO): **Liz**:  …I sat down with Alec, who was joined on the platform here at the UN by **his health expert wife and yoga teacher**, Hilaria Baldwin.  **HB** @ 0:50...
