Maybe the president should tax the rich?

11h ago

Maybe he governs this already but I’d like to be more informed about taxes. I don’t like politics but maybe if I don’t obsess over it like some and just pick out specifics like how the rich get richer out wouldn’t hurt because I know they do. Plus the president is getting lots of **** due to the rising gas prices. Will he lower them?

Trump should not TACO out of the war with Iran, no matter what the gas prices do.

11h ago

Look, a war with Iran has been a long time coming and if there was ever a moment for it, it is now. However, where Trump initially seemed to be quite effective by killing the ayatollah and putting his successor likely in a coma. He now seems to be chickening out because of the high gas prices. This is possibly the worst possible scenario. The regime is still there, angered by the attacks by the US and the one thing they have learned from this is that they have the global economy by the balls. This leaves all of us in a worse situation than before. Yes, it will hurt if Iran will keep the strait of Hormuz closed. Yes it will likely cause a worldwide oil crisis. Yes it will likely hurt the ...

For Muslim women, living faithfully in prisons is difficult

11h ago

**For Muslim women, living faithfully in prisons is difficult** A growing number of incarcerated Muslim women have been denied the right to wear religious garments when arrested or imprisoned.  *This article was originally published by* [*The Emancipator*](http://www.theemancipator.org/)*.* Muna Osman Jama was marking the last days of Ramadan with her husband, 10 years ago this July, when a swarm of federal law enforcement agents rushed through the door of their Reston, Virginia home. They handcuffed her and pushed her husband to the floor.  Jama, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Somalia, recalled the moment as chaotic and frightening. “I need to dress up,” she told them. “I...

Leftists and Democrats complaining about gas prices now are hypocrites

11h ago

The current national average for regular gas prices is $4.39 according to [https://gasprices.aaa.com/](https://gasprices.aaa.com/), an increase of more than $1 from a year ago, due to the Iran war blockade of the strait of Hormuz. In response, Trump's opponents have blamed him for the high gas prices. By contrast, during the Biden administration the average regular gas price reached a peak of $5.02 on June 14, 2022. The same Democrats who bash Trump now for raising gas prices insisted that "the president does not control gas prices", that high gas prices are worth it to protect Ukraine, and that those struggling with gas prices should buy an electric car. The left is also veh...

Why are tummy tucks so expensive in USA?

11h ago

I’ve been looking at the prices since most people here are from the USA. I’m shocked to see prices this high for a tummy tuck. What I’m most curious about, does anybody know why anesthesia is a separate cost and why does it cost SO much? I’m from the Netherlands and my tummy tuck was €7000. Everything included. This is even relatively expensive here. Tummy tucks start around €5000. Curious what average prices are around the world!

The companies that get remote work — and the ones forcing people back. A breakdown of who’s winning and who’s losi...

11h ago

Remote work has been the most contested workplace issue of the last five years. Some companies embraced it and never looked back. Others have spent the last two years dragging employees back to offices they don’t need to be in. Here’s a straightforward breakdown of what the data actually says, which companies are leading on remote work, and which ones are aggressively pushing people back to the office — along with how that’s working out for them. \----- \*\*Why working from home actually works\*\* Let’s start with the data because there’s a lot of noise on this topic. Productivity studies consistently show no drop-off for remote workers. A Stanford study published in Nature ...

Would 4th/5th Generation Nuclear Technology Be Allowed in Germany in the Future?

11h ago

**Note: Read the TLDR for summary. Reading the rest is optional.** I am working on my PhD in nuclear engineering in Canada and I recently read about **Dual Fluid Energy**, which is a German (based in Canada) nuclear energy research company, working on developing the only **5th Generation** nuclear reactor design proposed so far, **Dual Fluid Reactor (DFR)**. It's supposed to be a hyper **breeder**. I am learning German right now in order to apply to work in Dual Fluid Energy when I finish my PhD. # TLDR: Key features of DFR: 1. 100% utilization of uranium versus only 1% in current nuclear reactors. 2. Waste radioactive for only 300 years versus 100,000s years for current nuclear reac...

Trees keep falling in the forest behind my house - 2

12h ago

Hello again. I’m sorry for how I ended the [last post](https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/1sunbmx/trees_keep_falling_in_the_forest_behind_my_house/). I got overwhelmed with everything going on, had to take a breather. Someone asked me why the trees were falling. Just as I responded then, I’ll say – I don’t know. I don’t even know if anything out of the ordinary happened there. I told you what I remember from way back when, but to be completely honest, I don’t know if I can trust my own memory. The last time I was in those woods I could’ve sworn something chased me. But I was 12. It was the first time I ever got so drunk I could barely walk. There isn’t that much lig...

Tire pressure again

12h ago

I'm about 18 months into my lease, EX FWD. Last summer the tire pressure displays showed 43-45 for all 4 tires. This was when temperatures were well over 80 degrees. Over the winter, it dropped to 36-38 and so far this spring, it's been at most 39 when temps are about 75-80. I was going to use the pump but it's kind of a PITA and I didn't like going to gas stations. So I had to do the screen software update recall and when I took it into a local dealer, the service advisor says he already has it on the list to the mechanic to check and fill up the tires. When I picked up the car -- after 2-3 hours after he'd said they might need to keep it all day or over ni...

Kenz, Who Was Interviewed by New York Magazine, Says Article Omits Key Context and Negatively Frames Justin Baldoni

12h ago

I’ve spliced together two videos from Kenz: [Part 1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOG7rJj4vU8) and [Part 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luZEyfy56xU)  Kenz shares that she personally spoke with and was interviewed by a journalist from New York Magazine, and is comparing what she shared in that interview with what ultimately appeared in the published article. Kenz points out that: * The New York Magazine article presents itself as neutral but is actually subtly biased in favor of Blake Lively * It undermines Justin Baldoni through wording choices and selective framing * It omits key context that would make Lively look worse (content creators, “Vanzan,” DV-related criticism) * ...

They should show major roads and cities and stuff like this map and could be found in like DOT buildings and rest stops and gas stations and police stations and rarely glove boxes

How about hybrid during the insane gas price hike?

Wouldn't that be amazing?! Don't worry, I know, it would be like I'm asking to bring down the moon.

Couldn’t make my mind up

12h ago

So I’m not a huge gamer I’m more into nerd stuff like frame rates and rgb controls and fans and aspect ratio and 3rd party stuff. I do a lot of retro gaming and Xbox game pass. I have PlayStation Plus as well. I have an amazing gaming PC. Anyway I went all out and bought the Rog Xbox X then got cold feet a few days later thinking I spent too much on a WINDOWS gaming handheld. I returned it for the Legion GO S base edition for around the same price running steam os. I’m sorry but I don’t see the charm in steam os and the desktop. I’m literally heading back to return it and get the base Rog Xbox for $599. Like I said I don’t game enough to have the best of the best but IMO windows ...

Importing a Japanese car - torn between the 2012 Honda Fit RS Hybrid and 2012 Lexus CT200h

12h ago

Hey all, As the title says I'm considering importing a car from Japan, in the sub $15k CAD price range. With rising gas prices I'm looking for a comfortable, reliable and efficient daily driver. The RS Hybrid is compelling because of it's "fun to drive" personality (so I've heard), and the CT200h because of it's refined interior and good looks compared to the Fit. In Canada, we don't get the Fit hybrid so I'm afraid I can't test drive it to see how it feels. I enjoyed the CT200h I test drove, but the cost was pretty prohibative for a decent one. Open to suggestions for other hybrids or other imports that I should consider - maybe one with ...
