I have done some research and think I want to get a VW Jetta. In my area I can get a new 2026 Jetta S for around $22,000, or a used 2024 Jetta SE with good mileage (\~30,000) for around $19,000. Every vehicle I’ve had in the last 14 years has told me the burn rate of my fuel in litres per 100km and now I don’t have a frame of reference that is useful in MPG. I understand “high number better”, but if you tell me a car gets 30MPG I don’t know if that’s good or not for a modern car. If you tell me your car gets 8L/100km I know that’s decent but not great for a new car. This is not to discount MPG as it’s just a different reference point, but to me L/100km just makes more sense because I’m familiar with it. Also because it’s entirely in units I use I can estimate a lot better for when I’ll have to stop for gas.
