You would start of as a traveler who would arrive on an island/village. You’d get a room above a tavern and had an in game year to play a certain amount of money to the tavern owner (she was the one who did the tutorial and all that) to become a resident of the village. You could get married to the others in the village and once you become a resident you can move out of the tavern and into a house of your own and your clothes changed colour(I think).
