I start by making a very rough “sculpture” of my work, dollar store femo or playdough could even work. I take a picture of it with a direct light source or two. I trace and don’t feel bad about it because it’s my own work. Then, I find about 7 shades ranging from pure black to pure white and choose one of the middle shades as a base, then I work from darkest to lightest. I like to leave my lines unblurred. I can use the values of the gray to add colors. I just thought I should share this because it’s been a huge help to me.
