AI as Accelerant: Amplifying Extraction, Not Escaping It

2h ago

[Link to the original blog](https://www.delta-fund.org/ai-as-accelerant-amplifying-extraction-not-escaping-it/) The discourse surrounding Artificial Intelligence whipsaws between breathless techno-utopianism, casual dismissal, and existential dread. We're told AI will either usher in an age of [unprecedented human flourishing](https://www.darioamodei.com/essay/machines-of-loving-grace?ref=delta-fund.org), that it's just another "[normal technology](https://knightcolumbia.org/content/ai-as-normal-technology?ref=delta-fund.org)" that we will harness for our benefit, or that it will [extinguish us entirely](https://ai-2027.com/?ref=delta-fund.org). The new Main Menu UI and monetization is putting me off the game

3h ago

I bought this game and recommended it to people, naively under the assumption it wouldn't be ruined with microtransactions. After booting it up today I just told them not to. Now to get to the challenges and profile screens I have to look at the battle pass? And the store? I might have been interested, but they can't help but shove it in my face in the most obnoxious and aggressive menu UI I've seen in years. Can't get a normal game even for 70 dollars anymore.

“An Ordinary Life” autobiographical novel parts 4-15

3h ago

PART 4/15: THE CORNER By twelve, I had a corner. Not a physical one, but a network. I also had the bruised knuckles from boxing lessons my father insisted on—“a man must know how to fall, and how to make the other man fall harder.” I had torn socks from street soccer, moped grease on my calves from tinkering with a broken-down machine, and a new, bewildering fascination with girls that ruined my concentration for entire afternoons and, paradoxically, improved my posture. School was a separate theater of war. On paper, I was crowned. Advanced mathematics, top marks in literature. I could solve a quadratic equation faster than the teacher could write it on the chalkboard. But I couldn&...

How much house can you actually afford?

3h ago

When I’m shopping for clothes, tech, whatever… I always check the price. No point getting attached to something that’s out of my budget. Same basic logic applies when you’re buying a house… just on a much bigger scale. Before you start browsing listings or going to open houses, you need to figure out what you can realistically afford. Not just what a lender *might* approve you for but what fits your lifestyle and budget. Here’s how I usually break it down: * Track your spending for a couple months. Every dollar. Rent, food, subscriptions, gas, all of it. * Subtract that from your monthly income. That gives you a clearer picture of what’s left for housing. * Most experts re...

Looking for OEM suppliers with under 30% tariffs for barrel plugs, miniclick extenders, psu's and LED tape that ser...

I help manage an LED department in New York City, US at a fab shop and we purchase $5K-30k in product (tape, psu's etc) every couple weeks. We prefer EL to most suppliers because we can do Net 30 and their lead times are good. I go to do some purchasing of 500ct MiniClick White Extender - 2430mm (https://www.environmentallights.com/19541-mclick-w-ext-2430mm.html) and get slammed with an extra $409 dollars in tariffs. I see a bunch of the tapes and PSU's are still only 10-15% tariffed but for things like barrel connectors and mini clicks the price has jumped up drastically. Sometimes we have luck with Superbright LED but their quality isn't great, Ali express is too hit or miss...

Starting A Box Truck Business In 2025…

3h ago

Alright fellas let me save somebody a ton of money and headaches because I wish somebody would’ve broke it down for me like this when I first started looking into box trucks. Everybody online makes it sound like you just grab a truck… hop on Amazon Relay… and boom you’re rich by Friday. Nah man… there’s steps to this and if you skip one you’re gonna feel it in your pockets. Here’s the real rundown… First thing Figure out what type of lanes you even want to run. Local. Regional. OTR. This matters because the truck you buy… the insurance you need… even the brokers you work with depend on that. A lot of new people buy a truck first and then realize it doesn’t fit what...

BU MET: Master's of Computer Information Systems - Student Review

3h ago

**TL:DR** - Graduating MET CIS student needlessly writes wall of text to hopefully benefit someone in the future if they want to know more about this program. When I was first looking for information about this program, I had a hard time finding a comprehensive account of a student’s experience. The best resource I had found was someone’s blog where they gave up after writing a blurb about a few classes and then skipping ahead and ranting about covid ruining their graduation. I thought it may be useful (and cathartic) to say goodbye to BU and brain dump my experience in case anyone wants to know more about the MET Computer Information Systems program and are considering it for thems...

Wired: Ed Zitron Gets Paid to Love AI. He Also Gets Paid to **** AI

3h ago

Article Text: BY TOMMY CRAGGS THE BIG STORY OCT 27, 2025 6:00 AM Ed Zitron Gets Paid to Love AI. He Also Gets Paid to **** AI He’s one of the loudest voices of the AI haters—even as he does PR for AI companies. Either way, Ed Zitron has your attention. IN HIS DAY job, Ed Zitron runs a boutique public relations firm called EZPR. This might surprise anyone who has come to know Zitron through his podcast or his social media or the newsletter in which he writes two-fisted stuff like “Sam Altman is full of ****" and “Mark Zuckerberg is a putrid ghoul.” Flacks, as a rule, tend not to talk like this. Flacks send prim, throat-clearing emails to media people who do, on rare occasio...

Looking for a new daily driver credit card for family expenses.

3h ago

Credit Card Recommendation Request Back story. Planning on dropping the Fidelity Visa due to change in investment firms. We have been very happy with it, but almost all family charges go on this card, and cash earnings will not be going into a 401k as before. Average monthly bill for this card is around $3,000, and it is always paid off in full. The Bass Pro card has been held for 20+ years, and is only used for small business expenses. Average $200 per month, always paid off. Holding about $500 in points. Schwab debit card used as a travel fund and international travel payments. All international travel expenses go on this card, other than airfare. So, I'm looking around for ...

Introducing Kanchi - Free Open Source Celery Monitoring

3h ago

I just shipped https://kanchi.io - a free open source celery monitoring tool (https://github.com/getkanchi/kanchi) **What does it do** Previously, I used flower, which most of you probably know. And it worked fine. It lacked some features like Slack webhook integration, retries, orphan detection, and a live mode. I also wanted a polished, modern look and feel with additional UX enhancements like retrying tasks, hierarchical args and kwargs visualization, and some basic stats about our tasks. It also stores task metadata in a Postgres (or SQLite) database, so you have historical data even if you restart the instance. It’s still in an early state. **Comparison to alternatives** Just li...

Always “starting over” only to fail again

3h ago

My birthday is later this week. I am low-income, and generally can’t afford to eat out. There are a lot of places that have free food offers on your birthday. Some are completely free with no purchase required. Then of course there’s free desserts at sit-down restaurants. I turned off my reminders for LoseIt! and paused my rings (goals) on my Apple Watch. Just now, I ate a free donut from one place, a free pastry from another, and free coffee from yet another. I am going to Olive Garden with a friend tomorrow, PF Chang’s with my adult child another day. I keep telling myself I’ll “start over” the day after my birthday. But…why am I throwing the whole week away? Th...

Sugar Ridge Road in Bristol (Ellis County)

3h ago

I absolutely love this little town. Bristol has only around 714 residents. The only place to grab a bite to eat is the Bristol General Store, where you can fill up your gas tank and get yourself some delicious sushi and freshly baked sweet treats. Yes that’s right, the gas station sushi is actually really great. A quirky little business that doesn’t fit the mold of the town’s rural surroundings. About 33 miles south of Downtown Dallas, Bristol has some breathtaking views, especially on Sugar Ridge Road (picture attached). In the springtime, the bluebonnet filled rolling hills feature some of the most beautiful scenery in the state. On a clear day, you can see the Dallas skyline in...
