Latest Comments & Reviews & Feedback & Social Media Sharing of the Diy Latest Community Discussions About DiyAdvice on actually doing it18h agoHi all, Im looking for some advice on actually transitioning to barister fire. Personal circumstances has meant having to step away from Corporate UK and fortunately I can drop down to part time work, minimum wage for the foreseeable. BUT... im finding it difficult to choose a job and seem to be full of imposter syndrome. I like the idea of being a delivery driver, or working at a DIY store, or I would quite like to work at a cafe. But im seriously over thinking it, feeling like why would they hire me. I ideally only want 2 days per week, but I dont think there's that many jobs around like that. Anyone who has done it, how did you find it mentally but also any tips on actually findi... (UK) Can I get a CV review please?5d agoI am a 20 year old first-year student and I got myself quite a bit of experience before starting university. I have also got a part time job as a surveyor for a DIY store (after 7 months of looking for anything part time) and i'm not sure how to add it in. After graduation , i'd like to work in a travel/tourism related office job that isn't frontline, or something like the civil service/ Aviation regulator/ border force jobs. Thank you in advance for any tips! https://preview.redd.it/cpwy9c2suo1h1.png?width=995&format=png&auto=webp&s=9c4a603b2b2621d94b24bc00ad2d27c3e6413289 £10 katsura10d agoI just bought this katsura from the local DIY store for just £10 because I think it is a good deal. Acer this high usually cost >£30 online in the UK. Can I grow it in a sunny spot(south east facing, London) if I water it frequently and cover the ground with mulch? Where can I source a plastic sheet with 250 mm length, 120mm depth, and about 1-2mm thickness15d agoI’m not gonna go into full detail but I want a shelf that fits a very specific area on an existing shelf for my uni work. I looked about and can’t find anything that fits exactly what I need. I have a 3D printer, so I’m just gonna make the brackets I need but I need a panel to go between them. Looking online what I’m getting is either clear Perspex which I don’t want, or I’m getting much larger cuts that I’d need to resize myself which I don’t current have the tools to do so, alternatively the nearest DIY store to me, is 6 towns away and due to circumstances I can’t take a whole day to travel out there and back. What online retailer could I source a panel with those s... Any ID ideas?31d agoOk - it’s an ugly photo. I bought this from a UK DIY store last year. Only because it was relatively cheap and one head is variegated. I don’t normally buy columnar cacti due to a lack of space. So I haven’t learnt to identify them. My best guess is Isolatocereus dumortieri. Any ideas? My Avocet Mushrooms WindowKeep window won’t close — need advice on replacement (photos included)93d agoHi everyone, I believe this might be the correct model for my window, but I’m honestly very worried about ordering the wrong one. My broken part says it is 076M but ebay pic says it’s 076T I previously ordered the wrong part and had to pay for return shipping myself. I live in Ireland, so returning it to the UK was quite expensive (postage + customs). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! UK length units - how do you manage with the mixed systems?112d agoQuestion answered. I think this thread has been answered and it's getting repetitive. Perhaps the mods could lock it? If like me you've been born after the early 70s when decimalisation came in you've probably lived with the mixed metric/imperial system that the UK uses. However, you probably got taught in metric but lived with imperial too. So you might work with metric for measuring distance for to example you buy things from DIY stores by metric, metres for items like wood sheet, architrave, etc. Or you buy drills or hand tools where the length is metric. You might think about mountains in meets. Then you drive to somewhere watching your speed and distance on signs in im... Numatic (Henry) have cheaped out :(127d agoMy parents had a wet and dry they abused for 20 years and it's still going strong, i had a henry for years of faultless service....but they seem to be abandoning their reputation for quality. I recently went to the website of a big two letter DIY store here in the UK to buy a Numatic wet and dry vacuum and the "Charles" seemed to be the model that fit the bill. There were two reviews (weirdly low) one 5 star and one 1star. The 1 star review complained the retaining clips didn't hold the bottom bucket to the top/motor. I thought they must be doing it wrong or have a damaged one as Numatic have a brilliant recommendation and I've loved the last two i have used. Low... Am I being an *****?165d agoOK so after going down the rabbit hole that is this sub I went back to powder detergent; the Ariel Colour Professional UK to be exact. I wanted something with all the right enzymes, that protected the colour of my (mostly black) clothes. (btw please do let me know if you know of other suitable options in UK). So this now arrived in the mail from my trusty DIY store and I have absolutely no clue how to dose it. The instructions are more than cryptic. This is obviously a powder but dosage instructions are in ml, with the info that 55g=85ml. would I have to use the ratio method, e.g. for 225 x (55/85) = 145g? next problem: the columns seem to show amount of t-shirts vs the rows show kg - how ... My solution for cable climbing178d agoI saw a post yesterday about someone's snake climbing on the cables. I then left a CRYPTIC comment and left to go to a doctor's appointment. I took unwell after it (but now I feel better) but I realize I left a bunch of people in the dark, sorry! 😅 Which has inspired me to share a post on my cable management in my big chonky girls enclosure. I use cable clips to fit the wire flush against the ceiling! She was climbing on the cables and she's a hecking full size chonk so she was pulling the plastic grate out, I was so scared she would escape so I went to B&Q (DIY store in the UK I don't know if you guys over the pond have it? So basically a DIY store lol) and ... DIY wooden chessboard189d agoHi all. So I’m the planning process of making a chessboard as a gift. My dream would be to make it checkerboard with two different woods but I do not have the skill or equipment to do that. I also like the idea of one that folds but I think that might be more hassle than it’s worth, despite it probably being better for storage. So, I was thinking of just doing a plain wood board and either painting it or using mosaic tiles to make up the checkerboard pattern (I’ve seen a few online which looked really cool). I am concerned the tile idea might make it too heavy overall, I’m not sure. I have also seen some painted ones look rather messy which worries me too. The reason I looked a... Watch Storage - An affordable and functional option233d agoIn 3 months I've managed to accumulate over 20 watches, most of them Casio. How did that happen? Anyway, I was getting frustrated with them overspilling a box within a drawer, and started looking at watch boxes. Couldn't really find anything affordable and decent quality, and as I want it purely for neat storage for myself, not any kind of display purposes, I started looking at other options. Someone on here was using a repurposed tool box so I went to my local B&Q (UK DIY store) and picked up a couple of Stanley tool boxes with movable compartment separators, for £7.99 each. Job done! I also have a bunch of straps etc, but once I sell two or three of the watches... Help me understand my dendrobium234d agoHi, This is my 2nd dendrobium... i couldnt get the first one to flower again; about 7yrs ago. Ive since been abit nervous to try again. I adopted this one after flowering from a big orange diy store for a reduced price. Ive already repotted n its been living in a shaded south facing window. But that spot is getting colder for winter. Can anyone give me any insight to the preferred care of denbrobiums...? I have roughly about 150 other plants including about 4 phalaenopsis n succulents. Im in the uk approaching the winter so wondering whether to relocate it to under grow lights or not...?x Where to get steel sheets for magnet trays in the uk?243d agoI’m looking for some steel sheets, but I can’t find any for a good price or right size, the box is 34cm X 40cm, and I went to multiple DIY stores and they were too large, and I don’t have the tools for modification Where can I find them that are small or perhaps cut to the size you wish? Thanks in advance Viz Advert.249d agoSourcing an axe in the UK257d agoLongtime lurker in this sun, but basically as the title suggests: I live in the UK, and am struggling to find anywhere (second hand or new), selling axes or the head only. I’m after a good splitter, and had seen online this guy raving about a ‘Wood Bullet’. Great, I’ll have a look. Most places do t ship to the UK, or if they do, shipping is the thick side of £200. Maybe some of these guys forging their own axes would be a bit more competitive I thought? Again, hard to get shipping to the UK, or ridiculous prices. One quote was $495 shipping for a 7lb head only. So. Does anyone on here know any places that sell something at least half decent in the UK? All I can come up with DIY ... Where can I find PVC earth sheathing/sleeving in the US?260d agoI (UK) have a family member living in the US that want’s me to send them a reel of yellow/green sheathing/sleeving for insulating earth wires because they’re not available in the US (as I understand you don’t need to insulate earth there), it’s sold at every DIY store here but I said surely they sell it there too but alas I can’t find it available online anywhere in the US, any idea where I could find something like this or similar so I don’t have to post it needlessly at great cost from across the Atlantic? Bauhaus DIY store - best option when visiting262d agoHello, I have a short visit to Berlin next week and whilst many people would do a few museums, I'd like to use the opportunity to stock up on some DIY tools and other items. I have visited a Bauhaus in Munich before and found the selection to be much better than the UK where I'm from. I am staying at Alexanderplatz and found a few different stores, but wondering which one offers a good selection and figured I'd ask on here as difficult to tell from the pictures. I'd be travelling by public transport. Thanks in advance. Best place to get a custom cut aluminium sheet265d agoI’m trying to cover a loft hole with a flat aluminium sheet, size 44 × 51 cm, and I’m not sure where to get it cut to that exact size. Anyone know good places in the UK like metal suppliers, DIY stores or online shops? Also, any idea what a reasonable price would be for one sheet, around 2 mm thick? Thanks :) Should You Wax or Polish Laminate Floors in the UK?289d ago***Author, Written by:*** *P. Hirani (Wood flooring Expert)* Laminate flooring is a popular choice in many UK homes thanks to its affordability, realistic wood look designs, and ease of maintenance. But when it comes to keeping that surface looking shiny and new, many homeowners wonder: should you wax or polish laminate floors? The short answer is no, you shouldn’t wax or polish laminate flooring. While it might seem like a good way to bring back shine or cover scuffs, doing so can actually damage the surface. Let’s explore why and what you should do instead. # Why You Shouldn’t Wax Laminate Floors Unlike solid or engineered wood, laminate flooring has a wear layer made from a to...
