Skit from a foreign sketch comedy show where a guy is shopping in a tech store (think Radioshack). He picks up a TV remote and attempts to use it on a display TV. When he presses a button on the remote, the female customer service rep's shirt flies off. He presses the button again and her bra flies off. She covers herself with her hands. The joke is that it's like a magic TV remote that removes women's clothing at the press of a button. At the end of the skit, he buys the remote. It wasn't in english. I wanna say it was french but I could be wrong. The clip itself looked like something out of MADtv or something. Very 90s/early 2000s television looking. The fe...

Looking for electronics parts shops that aren’t in Tokyo or Osaka

2d ago

Hi all, Back in Japan for 3 weeks and looking for electronics parts shops. Think like the old RadioShack stores that the us/Canada used to have. Places that sell LEDs, diodes, ect. Even electronic junk is fine (hard off) Currently in Hiroshima, but will also be in Okayama, Osaka (already know about denden town) Nagoya, Kyoto and Tokyo. Is there anything in Hiroshima/okayama/kyoto/Nagoya? Or am I better to wait till I am back in Osaka/tokyo?

Arduino/Raspberry Pi Equipment Store

4d ago

Is there any store that would have equipment that I could by for an Arduino or Raspberry Pi around here? Specifically something like an actuated piston? I know RadioShack is gone, anywhere else? I know in Ruston there was/is a place called Alvar and Hurrik's that had some equipment for these, at the very least for the CS/engineering programs at Tech.

Diy electronics store?

6d ago

Is there a store in SL or Utah counties that caters to the electronics DIY crowd? Something like the diy section of Fry's used to be, or microcenter, or RadioShack from the 80s? I mean I could get stuff from Amazon, but would rather support something local if it exists.

My experience with h2o wireless

8d ago

My daughter was on US Mobile’s 2GB Minimal plan ($96/year) for the past two years. However, she consistently needed data top-ups every six weeks for basic tasks like maps, tracking, and ChatGPT (everything else was blocked on data). That brought her real cost closer to $156/year. Two weeks ago, I switched her to H2O Wireless’ 3GB plan at $115/year. The porting and initial activation were smooth. Then, three days ago, I got her a new phone (s10 to s21 5g). Chat agents? Either they don’t respond or they disconnect after ten-ish minutes. Phone agents actually attempt to help, but none have been able to get the eSIM working. Support hours don’t help either, as i have just one hour aft...

I got trapped in a dead mall in South Florida and I do not think it ever let me go

9d ago

This is not something I have told many people. I know how it sounds. I know most people will not believe it. But it happened to me, and it changed the way I look at every empty building I pass. This is the story of how I became trapped in a mall that should not exist. Part One: Inside the Dead Mall South Florida is covered in failed projects and abandoned buildings. Hurricanes destroy some, bad money destroys others. There are motels left to rot, entire neighborhoods stripped bare, plazas boarded up forever. But this mall near Fort Lauderdale was different. It had been closed since the late nineteen nineties. Explorers online called it a time capsule. Neon signs still hanging, mannequi...

Party: My House, Friday night

10d ago

N64 is good to go on the tube tv. Mario Party, Mario Kart, Goldeneye 007. 4 controllers, 4 rumble packs. Dave said he was bringing over the Fritos and his mom's onion dip, but I don't trust that. Can someone else pick it up? A case of Surge would be ideal as well, though Mountain Dew or Mellow Yellow (weird) will also suffice. Oh, and If you want to join the LAN party, send Mike a message over AIM so we know how many pop-up tables we should rent. RadioShack is sounding lackluster-- we might have to try TheWhiz, or Becky's Dad's party store. Side note-- Mix CDs brought for the entertainment need to have full track listings otherwise Laura is goi...

Separating VHF and UHF bands becoming a "lost art" anymore?

43d ago

I've been telling people an option to use one antenna for VHF channels and another for UHF ones, but this requires a diplexer for both bands. So far, the only brands I've known actively making this kind of diplexer are Antennas Direct and Televes.... methinks. - Antennas Direct: https://store.antennasdirect.com/antennas-direct-uhf-vhf-tv-antenna-combiner-weatherproof-enclosure-black.html - contains weatherproof enclosure case for especially outdoor mounting - From what I learned just now, "The [weatherproof] enclosure [case] will not accept larger diameter coaxial cable such as RG11" - Perhaps RG11 and somewhat short(?) RG6 cables can be used all together, but...

RadioShack with guard cat - FD73

55d ago

RadioShack at Ashtabula Towne Square in Ashtabula, Ohio. Guarding the front doors of the exterior oriented location included the store’s hired security. A cat. This store was formerly located inside the mall, but most likely due to poor shopping traffic. It’s now in this exterior oriented location, not even connected to the interior.

67d ago

Hey everybody! Just watched “Wade lied to us” and I wanted to throw it out there that RadioShack isn’t totally gone yet! The corporate stores are gone but I work at a RadioShack dealer in Ohio! The corporate side just reopened online too. This isn’t a ad and I don’t get paid commission or anything but I think it’s cool that there’s still stores like us around even if most people don’t know about us. Anyways there’s my once in a lifetime contribution to the Reddit

It still exists!

There’s a radio shack like an hour from me. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen one!

What are some things you miss from your childhood in NH?

80d ago

My son wishes we' had more fireflies. I was telling him back when I was a kid (80s/90s), we had a bunch of them around. That got me thinking, there's many things that don't seem to be around much anymore. Between urban development, global climate changes, more and more disappears each year and it feels like only memories are left now. I miss: - Fireflies in the summer - Having more tree frogs, and frogs in general hopping about, especially after a rainy day or night. I love the sounds of frogs at night during the warm months - Grasshoppers! I can't remember the last time I even saw a big old grasshopper in my yard or anywhere around for that matter. I've beco...

Lead based solder in kitchen electronics

94d ago

Bought this rosin-core solder 10+ years ago when RadioShack still had stores. I've been using it a lot recently to solder electrical wires on my super fancy rice cooker that have been damaged and split due to repeated action of opening/closing lid. My question is, this solder contains lead so should I be using a non-lead based solder (e.g., food-safe?) for use in cooking electronics so that any vapor/fumes from the solder don't get absorbed by the food? Or is there nothing to worry about since the solder requires temp of 375+ to vaporize and cooking rice would never see temps that high? https://preview.redd.it/qpopfhwwwv9f1.jpg?width=1512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&...
