TLDR: got into it with a couple with a dog in a grocery store. (posting in case I get stabbed in the parking lot.) So I got some sad news today that 2 of my local gamestops are closing on January 15th! Another 2 have closed in the last year/year and half in my local area. The one store I’ve been going to monthly for over 10 years. The next closest store after these close would be around 40 minutes away from me. This really ***** for me as hardcore gamer and collector. now the only real options I have are Walmart and target which is ok for new games but don’t have the used game section GameStop has. I can’t help but to feel like Walmart is a pain to shop at due to games being locked behind glass. Cielo (corner shop next to Brother’s) is closing on 1/14. It’s so sad seeing another vacancy in downtown Iowa City. With the future of the Moen Group’s former properties (Chauncey, Hotel Vetro, Plaza Tower) up in the air, and a bunch of other vacancies, I’m nervous for how things will look downtown over the next few years. It’s looking a bit bleak at the moment. I eat, drink, shop, and attend events downtown and feel like it’s busy most of the year. But I guess it’s not enough right now. Downtown isn’t the only neighborhood in IC that matters by any means, but it drives a big part of our local economy. I would love to see our local government speak on this issue.
