It reasonable to have a cash reserve equivalent to 3-6 months of expenses (or more if income is variable/unpredictable). The traditional advice is to store the cash in a savings account. This is usually not tax efficient because there is usually tax retention when interest is payed. Considering that usually the money is untouched for years/decades wouldn't it be reasonable to put it in a accumulating Money Market fund/ETF? The risk would be minimal; the gross return would probably be equal or better and the tax would only by payed when the funds unit would be sold/liquidated allowing for larger compounding. What do you think?
