Of possible historical interest to some Lancastrians, here's a little bit of show and tell (not sell!) from my coll...2h agoDuring Britain's [Regency Era](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regency_era) the Crown was teetering on the brink of bankruptcy thanks primarily to its various overseas adventures and entanglements. Aside from a few small copper releases in 1797-1807 the government had been unable or unwilling to mint Regal coinage for everyday commerce since the 1780's. Something had to be done to fill this gap, so "emergency money" was placed into circulation by merchants, banks, workhouses, factories, and even towns and counties themselves. This necessity coinage became so widespread by the [Great Recoinage of 1816](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Recoinage_of_1816) that hundreds... I built a Chrome extension that rates products, brands, and sellers2h agoHey everyone — so this all started when FakeSpot shutdown (an online shopping tool I had grown accustomed to using). It occurred to me it might be a fun challenge to build something similar on my own. So I did! I built a Chrome extension (there is also a web version) that uses AI to analyzes e-commerce product pages (Amazon, Target, Walmart, Shopify stores, etc.) and generates a quick “risk score” based on stuff like: * Review authenticity * Pricing anomalies * Web presence * Warranty information * Shady marketing tricks This is not intended to be a cybersecurity tool. Just a simple AI assistant to help regular people feel more confident about their online purchases. Right now it... The sad part of rewriting resumes isn’t the writing it’s how little people think of themselves ( Resume writer here ...2h agoJust to be clear I’m not HR, I’m not a recruiter, and I’m definitely not one of those “career coach” people. I literally rewrite resumes. That’s it. Nothing fancy. No corporate jargon. Just me, my laptop, and a ****** amount of resumes. Because of that, I end up talking to job seekers every single day. People in all kinds of situations some burned out, some underpaid, some fresh out of school, some with 10 years of experience but zero confidence. Different fields too: Retail, tech, hospitality, logistics, marketing, finance… and sometimes really niche jobs I didn’t even know existed until someone sent me their resume at 1AM with a “does this look okay?” After doing t... I bought a korean black bolt booster from my local game store for 3,90€ and pulled this.2h agoStory time! So i went to the store like i have many times before, had extra 4e from grocery bonuses on my second bank account so i thought, "what the ****, might as well use it, now that im here" and went for a pack like i almost did, many times before. When standing in the line, i was thinking that maybe i should choose a different pack but then decided that nah, this might be it. I had a good feeling about the pack. On my way home i thought to my self that **** it would be cool to pull the black zekrom aaand... I know that japanese one would be even more expensive and tbh i didn't pay attention that much at first and thought that the pack was japanese but oh well, cool car... Does anyone else dislike the set up and lighting?2h agoI work here but even as a customer years before that something about the lighting always bothered me. It’s so bright but yet so dark in there. It’s like when I go to any other grocery store or retail place I feel fine but when I’m in BJ’s I feel small and claustrophobic. I also dislike the lighting and the smell. I’m sure I feel it more now because I’m there 8 hours a day working but like I said before I had a job at BJS the environment always left me feeling uneasy. It’s like after being in there for 10 minutes I want to get the **** out of there lmao. Whether it’s busy or not. Ive never really felt it at any other store. Not sure if anyone else felt a similar thing or ... Welcome to The Side Quest2h agoVulnerable post, but I'm feeling quite happy in my cozy, if a bit cramped, little shop. Focused early on just finding as many things to sell and craft as possible as getting new things is one of my favorite parts of these types of games. Very much standard, sterile store design 😅😅 but I'm hoping to change that once I get more space and can cordon off rooms for each category and make each their own little world. Also been thinking about implementing the outdoor space as sort of a farmer's market type of deal, which would free up a lot of the interior. I'm quite uncreative, so aesthetics often takes a backseat to form and function for me, but I really like how this ha... Two Strategies: Software Blocking and Financial Blocking2h agoI know these don't address root causes. I would love to get to the point I don't need them. It would be healthy to have my willpower and life setup where these weren't necessary. And, honestly, they can be a pain, a hassle, and time consuming. But, like a cast on a broken bone, they have helped me to heal. A little. **Software-Blocking** prevents me from getting to sites. I've blocked all of Reddit (except about 50 safe-for-me) subreddits. I've blocked X and Twitter and Instagram and TikTok and OnlyWhatever, etc. Not going to lie: It's a pain in the ******* *** and has taken a LOT more time and effort than I thought. I keep finding ways around it. But it... Totally Reliable Pokemon... woooo -Iris (1/2 for Thanksgiving)2h ago3 September 20172h agoHappy Thanksgiving2h agoFor Americans, enjoy the holiday. For everyone, enjoy the photo of my newest plant member, a Truncata I got in a grocery store. They did a decent job on timing the forcing. First bloom opened today, right on Thanksgiving. blake lively's outing to 'lsoften the narrative' amid lawsuit - sourcd2h agoalright folks. happy thanksgiving! the gift that keeps on giving. blake lively and ryan reynolds are doing the PR: "flooding the zone" technique of putting up good news articles about them to soften the narrative before their evil texts gets unsealed. Where should a new grad who enjoys sports + outdoor running and will be working in Tysons Corner rent?2h agoHi NoVa! I'm a new grad renting an apartment for the first time with my office being in Tysons Corner. I'd love recommendations on where to live - I've seen recommendations of Tysons Corner, Arlington, Ballston, and Clarendon. Trying to narrow that down. * Price Range - $1500 - $1800 * I'm looking for a 1B1R apartment or a studio. Happy to live with a roommate but I'd prefer to live alone for the first 6 months to a year before revisiting the situation. * A parking spot is necessary for my car. In-unit laundry would be nice. * I'll be working in Tysons Corner. I'd like for my commute to be <30 minutes, preferably 20\~ minutes. I can drive but would ... Local Adult Orphan Seeking a Family Who Won’t Make Holiday Plans Without Me2h agoHey Portland, okay, so this is probably the strangest post I’ve ever made, but here we go. I’m an adult orphan (yes, apparently that’s a thing, and no, Disney still hasn’t offered me a movie deal). I’ve spent most of my life building myself from scratch: emotionally, financially, spiritually, and occasionally with caffeine; but lately I’ve realized something: I want a family. Not the “share your bank account” kind. The “show up for each other, laugh together, borrow sugar, and argue about who’s cooking dinner” kind. A little about me: I’m 45, *****, neurodivergent, newly rediscovering myself after a long, messy chapter. I drive Uber/Spark, build side businesses, ... Away at the Mountain – Roseselsa Distant Mountain 10th Anniversary Edition Headphone Review.2h ago# TL/DR With an slightly vocal forward and warm-ish sound presentation, the Distant Mountain 10th Anniversary Edition presents an easily approachable soft V-shape sound that prioritizes a rhythmic and relaxed listening session without totally neglecting the performance, and sporting a sturdy metal build alongside sleek retro looks. With a focus on a punchy and agile mid-bass hit over a some less pronounced sub-bass. A warm mid-range with fairly clear male vocals and some energetic and a bit stand out female vocals. And a controlled, complementary treble that helps avoiding harshness while keeping a sense of balance in the sound. \---------- **WOULD RECOMMEND:** * Fo... Which under bed storage works best under low beds?2h agoFinding the right under bed storage for a low bed can feel like a puzzle. You need something that fits in that tight space but still holds your stuff without turning into a wrestling match every time you need to grab something. **What Height Are We Talking About?** Low beds usually have between 5 to 8 inches of clearance. That's not much room to work with. Before buying anything, grab a measuring tape and check your actual space. Don't forget to account for any bed frame lips or support beams that might eat into that height. **Best Options for Low Clearance** Rolling storage bins are your friend here. Look for containers that are specifically 5 inches tall or less. The ones wit... 🛡︠Content Safety: All discussions are automatically filtered for inappropriate content to ensure a safe browsing experience. |
