So I went to the grocery store a little while ago, and I was putting my shopping cart back. An older lady was discussing something with someone else and then looked over at me and said, “Oh, she has one of the smaller ones. Let’s take hers.” It’s a small thing but with all that’s going on it’s nice to have moments like this.

I grew up on Shields & West in the 90s. The grocery store used to be "Foodland" before it became Las Palmas (and before the Rite Aid). My mother briefly owned a thrift shop in the shopping center behind it, near the recycling center and the laundromat. So I'm a 3rd generation furniture manufacturer of soft furnishings for the retail, wholesale and hospitality market. My factory handles everything in house from frame construction to upholstery. Things have been up and down over the years but throughout the last 10 or so I've come to realise that the market in my country has gone in the direction of many others.... I have two orchids that have already flowered (Ludisia discolor and den Zechia Lynn pink) but most of my phals are still spiking. Don't have the names for all but the ones I do know are: schilleriana (2 spikes with at least 7 buds each), sogo red star (2 spikes with 4/5 buds currently), chia E Yenlin variegated (2 spikes, still too small to tell the buds), the others are all rescues/grocery store phals.
