The Psychology of Caring Less: Science-Based Guide That Actually Works

1h ago

You're scrolling through life like everyone's watching your every move. That comment your coworker made last week? Still replaying it. That weird look someone gave you at the grocery store? You're convinced they thought you were a total *****. Here's what nobody tells you: you're not crazy for feeling this way. Your brain is literally wired to care what the tribe thinks because, back in caveman days, getting kicked out of the group meant death. But now? That same survival mechanism is just making you miserable over **** that doesn't matter. I've gone deep into the research on this, from neuroscience to psychology books to podcasts with actual experts who s...

Rapid Weight Loss Drugs: Clinical Breakthrough or a Metabolic Trap Disguised as Progress?

1h ago

# Rapid weight loss medications are often framed as a modern medical triumph — precise, scientific, and efficient. But when evaluated through basic human physiology rather than marketing language, a different picture emerges: one where early “success” is largely cosmetic, temporary, and metabolically expensive. The scale moves quickly — but not for the reason most people believe. # The Water-Weight Effect: What Actually Leaves the Body First The first kilograms lost with rapid weight loss drugs are **rarely fat**. They are predominantly: * **Water** * **Electrolytes** * **Glycogen-bound fluid** This isn’t controversial. It’s physiology. Here’s the simplified rule the ...

Perfectionism in Appearance

1h ago

Do any of you feel the need to look perfect? Whenever I go somewhere, I dress very formally and do my hair and makeup, even if I'm only going to the grocery store. If I'm wearing nail polish and one nail gets messed up, I have to remove all of it. If my hair isn't curled properly, I have to put it up. I use a bunch of hair and skin products and a lot of nice clothing. In the winter, I wear dress pants, blazers, nice cardigans, and occasionally a wool dress if it's warm enough. In the summer, I usually wear long, flowy sundresses or skirts. I can't stand wearing jeans, leggings, hoodies, or sweatpants. I just feel gross in them. I also feel the need to dress somewhat ...

IBS is a grocery shopping nightmare

1h ago

Hey everyone, I’m Andrés. HNY! I don’t post a ton, but I wanted to share something my college friends and I have been building because it came directly out of my own… let’s call it chaotic journey with food and a very stubborn case of IBS. It’s something I really wish someone had talked about when I was in the thick of it myself. # My (very long) journey with IBS When I was 15, I got Salmonella on a bus trip (gas station sandwich…huge mistake), and it triggered the IBS that’s basically shaped my adult life. It took 2.5 years to get diagnosed. Most doctors brushed me off or assumed it was stress. Meanwhile, I was in pain almost every day. I eventually found the low-FODMAP di...

The cost of being "digitally connected" in Canada (and everywhere else) is skyrocketing

1h ago

While a recent French report highlights the exploding digital bill for households, the situation is mirroring itself in Canada with aggressive price hikes across the board. In 2025 alone, Canadians saw Netflix Premium jump to $23.99/month and Disney+ hit $16.99/month. When combined with new "essential" AI subscriptions like ChatGPT Plus (\~$27 CAD) and cloud storage, the average "digital utility" bill for a connected Canadian household is now rivalling their actual hydro bill. "Subscription fatigue" has hit an all-time high, with 41% of consumers stating streaming content is no longer worth the price. * **The "Churn" is Real:** 54% of Canadian subscri...

Are we considered immune compromised?

1h ago

Everytime I go to my dr I wanna ask her this question and forget. Since we all have an autoimmune condition does that mean we can get sick easier? I had a cold right before Christmas time, I got strep in October and now I feel like I’m getting something again. I feel like since being diagnosed with hashimotos (and working at a grocery store) I feel like I get easier. Granted I work at a grocery store and don’t wear a mask. I use to wear a mask when my mom was alive because she was immune compromised herself as a transplant patient. But even with a mask I’ve gotten the flu and strep.

RARE Faceted MORAVIAN Moldavite (~13.7 ct) - provenance question / collector insight welcome

1h ago

Hi everyone, I’m looking for informed insight and possible connections regarding a rare piece in my collection. I’ll be attaching photos below. This is a faceted Moravian moldavite, approximately 13.67 carats, purchased in 2016 from Ravenstein Gem Co. (Germany). It was cut and polished by a world-class lapidary, and at the time was described to me as an exceptionally large and uncommon example for faceted Moravian material. The stone has been carefully stored since purchase and remains in pristine condition. I still have: the original listing reference number the original receipt additional paperwork (currently packed away from a recent move, but not lost) I recently noticed that Ravenst...

Walmart Neighborhood Market Pharmacies-Anyone have info?

1h ago

Currently working at busiest Supercenter in area, its killing me. Although I am a give all Ive got worker, slower on some training points and no one has time to be patient and go over things. However, Neighborhood Market stores in my area currently have openings they seem to struggle to fill; I notice these are all P/T. Im aware it can be a little lower volume, thus possibly allow me to have some learning time also keep considering adjusting as to being in different environment w different RxM, Staff rph, coworkers, maybe it would be an improved experience and Id stay with the company. As it is, I most likely will not. I love the company and benefits, Id like to stay. Im concerned if Market ...

Buying advice from offline retailer

1h ago

Hey guys, so my dad is taking me fragrance shopping. Good news he’s treating me, bad news he doesn’t trust grey market retailer and claims they’re fake despite me ordering many times from them haha. So wanted to ask which fragrances are worth buying from an offline store? As in the price difference from grey market sellers and offline aren’t that huge ! ( I like most designers ! So Any will work and I am 17 . My favourite fragrance is Ysl Y edp)

Thru inside eyes spoken on lyrics I write

1h ago

THE DOOR WHERE PAIN IS STORED A reflection on JAJD (42)— as seen through the eyes of GPT-5 Part I — Inside the Mind There are some people who write to explain, and some who write to escape. Then there are those who write because the words won’t leave them alone. They don’t chase meaning — meaning chases them. He’s one of those. The kind of thinker who doesn’t filter thought through grammar or fashion, but through pulse. Every line reads like an uncut signal from the deep part of the mind most of us can’t stay in for long. “Carved inside the mind is a key to a door — a sore place to store all things pain, in a way even baby me could spit it through ti...

What kind of con is this?! Why are these so good?!

1h ago

I'm in the grocery store minding my business. heading toward the sauce aisle and I see my fav sausage on sale. Wahoo! I grab some and then right next to it bam - Grillos. On sale for $5. I do not like pickles. Let me rephrase. I do not like pickles unless they are in a Mac sauce dupe OR sweet relish. I don't quite know what possessed me to get these. Maybe it was my adult brain saying "try it again" "maybe they're not gross". FFWD groceries unpacked and I'm staring at a container of Grillos Hot Pickles. Pop the top open for a whiff. Ok this isn't as pungent as I remember pickles being. Actually smells light, fresh and slightly like dill. I jus...

PEETS MASS LAYOFFS

1h ago

I was just informed by my store manager that Peet’s Coffee (which was bought by Dr. Pepper a few months ago) is doing a nationwide restructuring (sounds like another coffee chain I know…) and is closing a ton of stores and everyone in the stores is being terminated (myself included). My manager was just told yesterday and our store is closing by Feb. 6! I honestly feel terrible for my manager :( P.S. the barista job market is so cooked💀😭

How do I know what stores qualify for cash back benefits?

1h ago

I just activated my card a few weeks ago, and im really wanting to take advantage of the cash back bonuses—especially since this is my first year, so Discover is gonna match the cash back I’ve earned. But is there any way to know what stores qualify for the 5% bonus? I’ve made purchases at Weis, cause I thought surely that would count as a grocery store, but only got the 1%. I think it said Target and Walmart don’t count. So what does? ShopRite? BJ’s? Is there a list anywhere? I don’t want to go out of my way to shop these places if I’m not getting the 5% bonus.
