Is it safe to touch the baby’s fontanelle? 🤯 Parents’ Guide to the "Soft Spot"

1h ago

Hi everyone! Emily here (Health Researcher & Mom) 👋. One of the most common fears I hear from new parents—and honestly, something I stressed about too—is the **soft spot** (fontanelle) on a newborn's head. It seems so fragile, doesn't it? Many of us freeze up during bath time or handling, secretly worrying we might hurt the baby’s brain. 🧠 Based on evidence and anatomy, I want to share some science-backed reassurance: **It is much tougher than you think.** # What exactly is the "Soft Spot"? First, let’s clear up a huge myth: **Fontanelles are NOT holes in the skull.** They are gaps bridged by extremely strong, fibrous connective tissue. * **...

Vegan appetizers/hors d'oeuvres with a Christmas theme.

1h ago

It's the tradition in my family that Christmas Day features hors d'oeuvres made throughout the day instead of a large dinner. This year, my sister's girlfriend will be celebrating Christmas with us, and since she's vegan, I want to make sure that there are plenty of vegan appetizers that are tasty and really lean into the Christmas flavors. Any recipes or even just advice on vegan substitutes would be greatly appreciated.

Reddit Civilizations, Day 11

1h ago

Reddit Civilizations and Reddit World War have merged servers, you can join at: [https://discord.gg/XPZZeHrXqt](https://discord.gg/XPZZeHrXqt) Found a nation to start with (or, the recommended option, claim an unclaimed nation), put it in a comment, and I'll add it to the map. If you already have a nation, you can do literally anything which a real nation could do. The rules are whatever's realistic. The first thing I'd like to establish though is a "progression" system of sorts. You get 1-3 research points per turn depending on your nation size / population. Currently the nations here are like tribes / tribal kingdoms. You can use research points to research tech...

first month ✅

1h ago

hello there. I just wanted to share that ironically yesterday on thanksgiving was one month of me eating fully plant based. it has been a bit of a challenge I will say trying to get used to cooking more often now and double checking and reading labels at the store, but I do feel happy about it and overall do feel a lot better about myself. I do come from a mexican household, so it has taken my mom some time getting used to it as well, she keeps asking me over and over certain things and making certain comments I just chose to ignore at this point. I have always struggled with my health and weight and I made it a priority this time around since I got a bit of a health scare back in august, an...

Guide: nymphedora

1h ago

At the time of posting this character is the cheapest non starting character you can buy at only 150 gems. As opposed to the others 900. Brief description: nymphedora is the speed queen. But can cause problems if you don't realize all that entails. If you're looking to buy a new character, I would highly recommend her. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Mechanics: haste, stamina, and stars, hunters mark Haste: this is a buff available for any character but she has it in abundance. What is specifically does is increase ALL item usage by 1% per Haste. So if you gain 1 health per second it increases to 1 health every .99 seconds. Stamina: just like haste, every character has this, but ...

In Defense of the Shek (and their path forward)

1h ago

In light of the recent string of threads arguing that the Shek are/aren't the evilest faction, I wanted to share some of my thoughts I don't see discussed much. The claim that the Shek are dysfunctional is true. Some parts can be explained by being underdeveloped by the devs, but not all. For example, they should absolutely have hunters for food; they obviously view *some* trades other than warriors as honorable (such as shopkeepers and blacksmiths), and they willingly trade with the UC and West Hive, but that's about it. The cause of most of their issues: **Shek were never intended to be an independent race.** They weren't meant to lead themselves, or be monoethnic. T...

Where to start, how to start, and more

Main problem/idea: create a project that will help me learn arduinos while learning the basis of gardening and woodworking (like learning how to use drills so that I can connect planks together) Hello, 17m here. I thought it would be cool to pick up gardening as a hobby as when I get my own house, I want to make it so that I can grow tons of food for my family. But in present time, I don’t know where to start. For my 1st plant to grow, I want it to probably be a plant that grows food. It can’t be big though, since I want it to be inside of my house or in a small area (small pot at most) of my backyard. Because it’s my 1st plant, I don’t want it to be crazy. My idea was to make a sm...

Did I possibly cross a criminal?

1h ago

This happened a few months ago, and for some reason it’s stuck with me enough that I feel like sharing it here. It was a Sunday, and my family and I went to the city mall. Outside the mall, there are a lot of street food stalls. Before we even went inside, I noticed a guy alone at one of the stalls red T-shirt and blue jeans. Nothing odd at that moment I was just eyeing my favorite stall. But once we were inside, I ended up crossing paths with the same guy twice. Since this was now the third time I’d seen him, I paid a little more attention. He had no shopping bags, which meant he wasn’t really shopping and for some reason walking alone in a really busy mall on a sunday felt slightly...

I can't let go of my anger towards my mother and it's eating me alive

1h ago

So for a little bit of background I (24 year old male) am one of 4 siblings who share the same mom and same dad. I'm the second oldest of the family. My mom and dad met at church where my mother literally said to my dad "God told me you were my husband" and they got married my literally a month after that. I'm not joking. They ended getting divorced when I was around 7 years old and my dad went back to Guatemala (because he was an illegal immigrant and was here illegally for over 20s) when I was 11 where he married and had more kids with a 16 year old girl. So my father was never really present in my life. Most of the time my mom wouldn't allowed to talk to him simpl...

The Invisible Box That Could End Global Hunger

That's how much food we throw away globally every year. Not because people don't want it. Not because it's gone bad at home. But because it rots before it ever reaches a plate—spoiling in trucks, warehouses, and market stalls across the developing world. And here's the kicker: while this mountain of perfectly good food decomposes, 783 million people go to bed hungry. The reason? We've never cracked the cold chain problem for place...

What to do in Athens during Christmas?

1h ago

Hey all, I’m going to spend my yearly Christmas holiday in Athens by myself. I’ve already booked a day trip to Meteora but I still have 5 days in the city. I’m not familiar with holiday opening times and the internet isn’t very helpful so I’d appreciate the help. Are there vegan restaurants that you could recommend? I’d love to try traditional Greek food but in vegan. Are there great sugar free snacks/desserts? Or maybe whole stores where I can find something like that? Is there anything I should visit during Christmas apart from the basic touristy stuff? I like nice buildings and I appreciate long walks in beautiful or cozy neighbourhoods. I don’t care about museums b...

The clever and sly manjanna

1h ago

Manjanna is clever and sly 😂😂 He’s the one who planted that whole “take half the ghee jar and don’t give anyone” idea in Dhruvanth’s mind. And Dhruvanth was already annoyed and manjanna also mentioned that in their season they have done the luxury budget task more fairly and way better. If they didn’t get food, at least they’d fight for it properly 😭🔥

Do roses and shrubs needed to be covered in 25 f - possibility of freezing rain?

1h ago

I waited to the last minute and we might get freezing rain tonight and tomorrow night. Weather will be in the mid 20’s over night. I have sunshine ligustrum and a couple of knockout rose bushes that I planted late this summer. So they are doing well but I don’t know how established they are considered yet. My question is, do I need to cover them? If so what is the best, hopefully affordable material for now? I did already apply a thicker layer of mulch around the base a few weeks ago. I read to avoid plastic bags- which was my backup plan.

Using up icecream

1h ago

Hello to all that will read this. I found myself in a situation where I have a liter of mint icecream that I do not enjoy. What would I be able to use it for in cooking? I don't **** mint, but mint icecream just doesn't sit well with me. I'd like to, if possible, be able to use it for something instead of wasting food. A lot of recipes I know ask for icecream straight up, not mixed with anything. I need ideas for something that won't just use icecream as a topping, but instead incorporate it as an ingredient? Something like that... I make pancakes myself often, but I'm pretty sure it would not go great together. Open to any suggestions. Thanks.

America: A Prophecy

1h ago

I think this prophecy by William Blake about America is very fitting to all that we have discovered together. Would you like to review it and place it on our framework? **America: A Prophecy** by *William Blake* **PRELUDIUM** > 1 The shadowy daughter of Urthona stood before red Orc. 2 When fourteen suns had faintly journey'd o'er his dark abode; 3 His food she brought in iron baskets, his drink in cups of iron; 4 Crown'd with a helmet & dark hair the nameless female stood; 5 A quiver with its burning stores, a bow like that of night, 6 When pestilence is shot from heaven; no other arms she need: 7 In...
