Part history book, part cookbook, never read anything like this

3h ago

My son got me this cookbook for Christmas last year because he knows I’m a bit of a prepper. I don’t have a bunker or anything, but I do keep shelves stocked with canned food and other essentials. Seeing all the hurricanes, floods, and power outages over the past few years have made me a lot more cautious. This isn’t your regular cookbook. Every recipe is designed to last months or even years without refrigeration, and the author includes the backstory behind each dish. It’s part cookbook, part history lesson, like a little window into how people used to survive when grocery stores and fridges didn’t exist. I’ve been cooking my way through it the past few weeks. Some of the rec...

[METHOD] I locked in for 60 days straight and here’s what actually happened

3h ago

i committed to 60 days of complete focus. no half-assing, no excuses, just showing up every single day for myself. ended up completing all 60 days and i’m literally a different person now. here’s what worked, what failed miserably, and the stuff nobody talks about when they post their transformation. **what DIDN’T work:** **trying to change everything at once** - week one I tried to wake at 5am, workout twice daily, meal prep, quit all social media, study 4 hours, meditate. lasted 3 days before completely crashing. too much too fast just guarantees failure. **relying on motivation** - spent the first week watching motivation videos and reading success stories. felt pumped for like...

Sharing is awful

3h ago

I’ve been having extreme anxiety over sharing things recently and I don’t know what to do. Ive never really had a problem sharing I’m the eldest of 4 and normally really good with my friends. Sharing now though I only feel comfortable doing it with certain people. I’ve always shared food with my friends whether sharing my own meal or buying them their own. However I’ve stopped doing that because I felt like I was being taken for granted as I would share food and bring food to places for my friends to eat but it never felt reciprocated. An example would be if ask for a nibble and my friends would get really defensive, or I’d arrive to a hangout and I was the only one who provide...

ICE Prison’s 911 Calls Overwhelm a Rural Georgia Emergency System

3h ago

The 911 operator couldn’t send an ambulance because it was already responding to another call from ICE’s Stewart Detention Center. “MALE DETAINEE NEEDS to go out due to head trauma,” an employee at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s detention center in Georgia tells a 911 operator. The operator tells the employee at Stewart Detention Center that there are no ambulances available. “It’s already out — on the last patient y’all called us with,” the operator says. “Is there any way you can get one from another county?” the caller asks. “I can try,” the operator says. “I can’t make any promises, but I can try.” The call was one of dozens from the ...

Something you coincidentally have in common with a SVT member?

3h ago

What is something that you have in common with a SVT member - but by accident? In my case, I only got into Seventeen this year. Call me surprised when I realized Scoups and I used almost the same name for our pets. While (go)Kkuma means sweet potato in Korean, I used the name Kuma for my pet which I got three years ago. It means "bear" in Japanese and my pet is far away from being a sweet potato lol (Fun fact: Kuma was selected as the kanji of the year 2025 due to many bear encounters! Plus, another fun fact, Koreans like to name their pets after food because due to a superstition, this will make them live longer than usual.) Also, Scoups and I have a tattoo almost at the same spo...

Nearly toothless cat (17) refuses to eat wet food

3h ago

My boy is 17 and mostly healthy but his teeth have given him trouble over the years. He had yet another tooth extraction a week ago and is now down to his bottom canines and a few incisors. The problem is he doesn't like wet food - never has - and refuses to eat it, but with dry food he starts gagging and pawing at his mouth shortly after digging in with much gusto. I've tried multiple brands, kinds and flavours of wet food - he'll slurp up the gravy/soup and leave all the chunks behind. I've tried cooking him plain chicken ****** - goes crazy for it but gags and paws. Rehydratable kitten kibble (Royal Canin Mother and Babycat) - chows down the dry form then gags and ...

3h ago

Hey r/garden, Long-time lurker, occasional commenter here. I've been struggling with keeping track of what's planted where across multiple beds and remembering when to start seeds vs. transplant for years, and after trying spreadsheets, notebooks, and various apps that were either too complicated or missing key features, I finally decided to build my own tool. **What it does:** Helps with garden bed planning and planting schedules by: * Creating a visual layout of your beds so you can see what's planted where at a glance * Generating a personalized calendar based on YOUR hardiness zone and frost dates that shows when to seed, transplant, and harvest each crop * Tracking com...

This is a disrespect and constraint on people who want to actually use the app!

3h ago

This is unbelievable! I just updated my app, and it doesn’t let me add my food for later in the week! I meal prep for my weak ahead (actually a good decision I made in my weight loss journey) and then I weigh and pack everything in my lunch box to bring to the office (I eat my lunch and dinner there), so I can easily add them the night before while I am filling my lunch box, it was easier and obviously more accurate. Now all of a sudden it doesn’t let me do it!!!!! The only reason I kept using this app is that I have so many recipes and meals that I have created saved there and it would take so much time to migrate all of those to another app. Not to mention the constant loooong uns...

What To Get Dad (Late 70’s) Never Wants Anything?

3h ago

Looking for any gift ideas for my dad (late 70’s) that basically only has two hobbies. Dedicating his retired time to his church and eating healthy/exercising. Even in his older age he still loves to run and bike. Two years ago, I got him a blender he asked for and he never took it out of the box. I’m not religious, so I don’t know if there’s any Catholic-based gifts I could get him? But I feel like there’s more health food/lifestyle gifts out there. Also, he doesn’t drink coffee, tea or alcohol.

Ongoing water ingress from neighbour’s property

3h ago

Hi all! I’m looking for some advice on next steps as this issue has been ongoing for some time and I want to be sure I’m handling it correctly. I own a mid-terraced home in Wales. For over a year, since around October/November 2024, I’ve had recurring water ingress into my kitchen ceiling, including water dripping through a ceiling spotlight during heavy rain. I’ve also had damp and mould developing inside a cupboard that backs onto the shared external wall. Initially, I tried to resolve this and paid for a full replacement of my flat roof in November 2025 (around £7,000), based on contractor advice that the issue might be on my side. Unfortunately, the ingress continued even aft...

GPT-5.2-high is bad

GPT-5.2-high reasons in a way similar to DeepSeek V3.2. This looks like an overfitting problem - the model scores very high on benchmarks, but its real-world quality does not match those scores.
