Hii, I’m very new to this hobby but I’m so excited to set up my first tank! I’m having a bit trouble so any nice help would be appreciated: I have a 14 cube tank and I want to add some rasboras, otos, corydoras, and then a bettafish with lotsss of plants! I work full time and have 3 young kids so dedicating more time was not ideal. My lil Thai Constellation just let this leaf out like 1-2 weeks ago. Today I removed the dry leafy bits off the base of the petiole and I noticed this dark spot. It’s been in leca for about a year, but I transported it last week to a larger container. I also have it under a few grow lights for about 14 hours a day. The plant feels good and healthy, but I am worried. Photos 1 & 2 are of the base. Photo 3 is the leaf. Photo 4 is the whole plant.

Hi! New(ish) betta owner here. I got my new betta about 2 days ago now and have noticed her chasing her reflection in the tank. She doesn’t do it immediately when I first turn the tank light on though. Usually after an hour or so is when she starts. I didn’t realize the tank would reflect so badly when I bought it. I’ve tried adjusting the lighting in my bedroom to make it more bright to see if it would balance out the light in the tank but it does not. Even when the light is off her reflection is still there. Can you share with me your self watering chunky mix recipe?? I’m struggling to find the right balance. Coco coir, orchid bark and pumice was my go-to but I’m find that it the coco coir actually compacts so some of my older plants have rock hard substrate. I’ve seen a coco peat mix and supposedly that isn’t prone to compaction but before I go down the wrong path again, just looking for a little guidance. I should also mention that I was top watering but moving forward, I’ll be using all self watering pots. So I’d like a mix that has decent water retention but not too much

So we have been being harassed by a small brown bird. I’m not sure if it is the blue jays mate but the harassing bird is not blue at all. I’m guessing one gender doesn’t look blue and this brown bird must be the mate of the bird we killed. The blue jay must’ve seen us planting rat traps with food around the garden and went into the trap to get the bait and sadly was killed.
