Drosera neocaledonia growing medium39m agoSince the plant grows *in situ* together with Nepethes vieillardii (see the photo above), has anyone tried to grow them in the same Akadame-based medium? Something like 50% Akadama, 25% Coarse horticultural sand, 12.5% Chunky cubes of coconut coir, 12.5% large chunky perlite? Otherwise, what medium would they prefer? Feedback needed42m agoHey everyone, I’m a developer based in India. I noticed that most local coffee shops and restaurants here have great food but terrible customer retention. They rely entirely on footfall or expensive ads (Zomato/Swiggy). I spent the last week building a "Silent Manager" system to fix this. The concept is simple: Customer scans a QR at the table (no app download). They rate the food. If they rate 5 stars, the system automatically texts them a "Manager's Special" coupon via WhatsApp if they haven't visited in 7 days. If they rate 1 star, an AI reads their complaint and drafts a personalized apology instantly to stop them from posting a bad Google Review. My Quest... Are your beliefs really a result of a serious rational and critical enquiry or you too believe whatever you want to or feels convenient, not confronting uncomfortable truths like religious people do? When the judgment was given on the basis of belief not evidence53m agoThe masjid was demolished by the goons of the RSS, BJP and Shiv Sena on December 6, 1992. Criminal proceedings launched against the leaders — L.K. Advani and the rest have made scant progress. There now comes the Supreme Court’s strange verdict strangely expressed with a stooge addendum which belies its unanimity. The court holds that the idols were indeed planted inside the mosque on December 22-23, 1949, and holds also that the demolition on December 6, 1992, was against the “rule of law”. But it does not restore the masjid to the victims of those two crimes. It rewards their perpetrators’ successors in interest with possession of the land on which the demolished masjid stood. ... i’m wondering if anyone here shares my weird food preferences.54m agomayonnaise is okay on a toasted or grilled sandwich. on a cold sandwich it’s gross. tomato sauce is okay on pizza or in lasagna. in other foods it’s gross. all other tomato products are gross no matter what. caramelized onions are delicious. non-caramelized onions have to be chopped up tiny enough that i don’t have to deal with the texture. bean salad and pasta salad are gross. beans and pasta are both meant to be eaten warm or at least room temperature. vinaigrette is gross but vinegar-based barbecue sauce is good. please tell me your weird food preferences. I had posted about doing Washington this winter and as I suspected many had recommended doing other winter hikes like Pierce Moosilauke etc. I settled on Mount Madison tomorrow! The hive-mind virus is an intelligent-life extinction virus.56m agoI came across a theory on this sub suggesting that the hive-mind exists to transmit itself from planet to planet, systematically eliminating intelligent life on its current host world in the process. I’ve been reflecting on this idea and wanted to share my thoughts. After watching the HDP episode, I’m convinced the hive-mind has no real motivation for long-term survival beyond a certain point. We see that they refuse to consume livestock or engage in farming due to their supposed moral code. But seriously, are we to believe that with countless intelligent minds merged into one collective, they couldn’t figure out robotics or other advanced methods to create artificial farms for food... Oh Sheri....57m agoGUEST ROOM | The Value of Interfaith Engagement59m agoHere at Cornell, we regularly invoke the phrase “any person, any study.” It is a noble aspiration, central to our purpose and values as a university. But fully realizing that motto requires work. We fall short when we fail to leave our comfort zone and never meaningfully engage identities, cultures, ideas and values different from our own. This includes engaging students with deeply-held religious, spiritual and secular commitments and worldviews. In any given week, more than a thousand students come to Anabel Taylor Hall at 548 College Avenue to worship, pray and meditate while wrestling with meaning, identity, values, justice and tradition. They come to explore the big questions not... The Complete Guide to Feline Gut Microbiome and Dietary Fiber: What the Science Actually Says1h ago**TL;DR: Despite being obligate carnivores, cats have surprisingly active gut fermentation that produces higher SCFA concentrations than dogs. Moderately fermentable fibers like beet pulp are optimal; they feed beneficial bacteria without causing gas and loose stools. Psyllium has 82 to 93% success rates for constipation in clinical trials. Highly fermentable prebiotics (FOS/inulin) dramatically increase beneficial bacteria (164 fold for lactobacilli) but need careful dosing to avoid digestive upset. Most "helpful" home additions like pumpkin are too weak to have therapeutic effects; one tablespoon provides only 0.5g of fiber when therapeutic diets contain 8 to 28% total dietary fi... Gut-Friendly Fermented Foods You Can Add Easily1h agoFermented foods aren’t just trendy — they’ve been used for centuries to support digestion. They introduce beneficial bacteria into the gut, which may improve balance and reduce bloating. Some easy options to try: * **Yogurt with live cultures** * **Kefir** (fermented milk or water-based) * **Sauerkraut** (fermented cabbage, unpasteurized) * **Kimchi** (spicy Korean-style vegetables) * **Miso soup** Adding even a small portion regularly can make a noticeable difference. 👉 Which fermented food do you enjoy most — yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, or kimchi? Bad parent1h agoIt’s 5:51am and I am currently holding my second born (M: 5 weeks) trying to get him to sleep. I am so frustrated but mostly disappointed in myself for not having the patience to deal with all the things that come with having a newborn. For context, I have a 2.5 year old son. He is a healthy happy boy but I struggled the 1st year with everything from breastfeeding (never latched so I pumped and bottle fed for a year) and sleep (he was always a sensitive sleeper and I was basically home bound trying to get him to nap - he never hit the 12-14 hour minimum hours, usually did 10-11 if I was lucky. I eventually sleep trained and he is an independent good sleeper but it took work and sacrifice i... Nitrates and cycling1h agoHi, Have a 60L planted aquarium that’s been cycling now for nearly 6 weeks (with some bio media from a larger well established aquarium in the filter) Currently has 6 Amano in there for algae management who are doing fine but is going to house a Betta - tested water yesterday and came up fine 0pmm on both ammonia and nitrites and minimal nitrates (hard to differentiate on the test kit but no real material difference) Added some aqua care bio boost yesterday and tested this morning to see if the filter had dealt with it and showing 0ppm on both ammonia and nitrites but nitrates up to around 40ppm Would that suggest tank isn’t fully cycled yet? Would seem like a long time especially w... Veganism in Nepal1h agoRecently so many people are turning vegan and sharing the same online. According to them it's wrong to hurt animals for our convenience and there are dietary alternatives to meat and dairy hence we shouldn't consume animal derived products. Moreover, It is been proved that balancd plant-based diet is sufficient for human beings to thrive on. There are tons of articles online supporting the claim. Also in Nepal we(most middle-class and below families) eat meat not as a staple protein source but as occasional delicacy because of affordability. Dairy products are used more for nutritional value but we can easily replace them with plant based foods. Veganism has right points and I d... [World] - Flash in the pan: how China’s plant-based meat craze fizzled | South China Morning Post1h agoTheory & an Explanation On the Nature of XP1h agoI theorize that XP is an element equivalent to the elements on the periodic table with its own unique priorities and functions; existing in a unique state of matter like a supersolid but capable of existing at any temperatures. To begin there are discrepancies between XP pre-death/used to after death/given back. What I mean by this is that usually the XP you initially had never amounts to the same when you die. This applies equally to the grindstone; the amount of XP spent on an enchantment does not equate to getting the same amount back. This can be explained if we consider that XP is in a unique state of matter like a supersolid. Where the breaking of coherence of XP causes most of th... Bittersweet Family Event1h agoI went to visit family over the holiday weekend. Me and my old man spoke for some time catching up when he told me him, my aunt, and both of my uncles are all giving up the cattle business because the cost just doesn't justify the output anymore. After they sell the last of the herd, they'll probably turn the pasture into either soybean or more vegetables for us. My family has been farming cattle for five generations, so I've always been the oddball in the family with my plant based dietary habits. While it's welcome news and a win for the animals, it's going to feel weird visiting and imagining my late grandparents rolling in their graves. ğŸ›¡ï¸ Content Safety: All discussions are automatically filtered for inappropriate content to ensure a safe browsing experience. |
