I feel very ****, but I cannot figure out what the symbols mean in this book. I see that the white cup means an alum mordant was used and the grey cup means that an iron modifier was used after dyeing. But I'm confused on what the black cup means by "dye color on fibers". Does that mean no mordant or modifier was used? If that is the case then how can one color swatch have all three symbols next to it (an example being getting green with onion skins which has all three symbols next to it).
