Shoutout to the Subnautica 2 designer(s)

9m ago

Just wanted to make a post to highlight how standout the design is for me so far in Subnautica 2! I'm a UX designer and I'm just noticing so many little things that feel intentional. Minor spoilers ahead, as per the spoiler tag; stop reading if you want to know nothing about the game yet. First, there's the opening sequence. It's such a clever way to hint at the fact that the game will get deep, and spooky. You get a taste of this early on, before ending up in the safe, shallow, and well-lit beginning zone. It's just a great, minimal hook to give you the drive to go further, and especially after Below Zero and how non-scary it was, it gives confidence to the players...

I feel bad for enjoying vegan meat...

9m ago

I started my vegan journey A month ago now and I never felt better. I love that I am longer participating in systems I exploit and torture kill animals. I was vegetarian before I became vegan but A long time of deep thought and guilt I decided to become vegan. A few weeks ago. I was grocery shopping and I went to Frozen vegetable aisle where I saw some morning Star vegan chicken nuggets. I was randomly craving some childhood nostalgia food and I loved them as a kid so I thought I would try them. It was honestly very scary. **** they tasted exactly like chicken. I was having a mental health day eating my vegan junk food winding down after a long week. But I felt bad for eating the vegan meat ...

Trip Report: Guatemala with kids

11m ago

Traveled April 18-28, 2 families, 4 adults, 4 kids ages 10,9,8,7 Days 1-3: Antigua Stayed in a Vrbo house with a pool slightly south of downtown (4 minute walk to 1st cafe, \~10 minutes to central park). House was exquisite, neighborhood was very quiet and safe. So many cafes & restaurants. Outdoor market with wares, people selling trinkets and woven textile items. Colorful and vibrant. Locals were friendly and would approach to sell something but would not pester you if you politely said “No gracias.” We explored on foot, popped into shops, saw the arches. Highlights were doing a chocolate making class at the Choco Museum and taking a day trip to hike Volcan Pacaya. Thi...

L3302 SA20 bit size. How large can I go?

16m ago

Anyone have a L3302 with 3rd function SA20 and bit size over 12”? If so how does it do? We have red clay and are trying to plant large bushes/trees so I’m interested to see if it can push 18-24” bits. I’ve called the Kubota dealers near me and not getting confident answers on what is too big based on the hydraulic GPM flow rate. Thanks in advance!

The role Animal agriculture has in colonization

16m ago

I watched the fantastic video https://youtu.be/UhLizvrhbOU?si=DYJmogXKxkib1teR About environmentalism and Native Americans and how European livestock was the harbinger of colonialism with the buffalo being killed to make room for cattle ranchers. Even today livestock farming especially is the main driver of deforestation that deprives indigenous people of their land. Like in the Amazon. Of course this is oversimplification some indigenous people are livestock herders and many other indigenous people adopted European livestock like Navajo and sheep. I **** it when people claim veganism is “white” and “colonialist” when European style livestock/meat farming has been one of the driv...

Chinese Style chicken dish with sauce

18m ago

First time poster here. I am trying to identify this Chinese-style chicken dish + especially the sauce from these pictures. (Last 2 pics are a duck version of the food). I used to have this quite often when I was a kid while we lived in my home country (Slovakia) but now in the UK I have not been able to find a place that does anything similar. The chicken was super crispy and the sauce was some sort of sweet soy sauce and kinda sticky. The sauce had a thick, honey-like consistency that smoothly coated the chicken rather than being thin or runny. Does anyone know: 1. what this style of dish is actually called? 2. what the dark sauce might be? 3. any recipes that are close to this? I’v...

HMOs (human milk oligosaccharides) for adults

22m ago

Human milk oligosaccharides, or HMOs, are one of those supplement categories where the name makes people immediately check out. I had the same reaction at first. "Human milk"? Sounds like ****** milk, but that is not really what most HMO supplements are. A lot of the commercial HMOs now are bioidentical versions made through fermentation or other manufacturing methods, meant to replicate specific oligosaccharides naturally found in human milk, not be ****** milk itself. HMOs are complex sugars often described as the third most abundant solid component of ****** milk after lactose and lipids. Babies do not really digest them directly. Instead they act as a very targeted prebiotic s...

The search for the perfect vegan loafers

24m ago

I’ve been looking for vegan loafers for men for a while now, and I’m still struggling to find an option I feel confident about. I’m specifically looking for loafers in a brown shade that could be suitable for a semi-formal setting, and I don’t really mind if they have a smooth leather-like finish or a suede kind of texture. Based on my own research and other posts on here, the main options I’ve identified so far are the following: \- **City loafers from Will’s Vegan Store**. These are likely the most recommended out there. After having managed to get some second hand ones I was however disappointed with how wide they are at the ankle. I also have the impression that the leather...
