Fresh Vegan Peppermint Tea Recipe

Loosely WFPB for 10 years now.

For the **** of it, I got my cholesterol checked at the annual physical. I eat mostly whole food plant based (probably >95% calories) with a modest emphasis on legumes, seitan, and tofu. Wide variety of fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, rice, nuts, and spices / herbs. I've more or less eaten this way for a decade now. I do try to limit coconut products, sadly. I exercise regularly, mainly biking, running, and tennis. My dad started taking a statin a year ago because his cholesterol level was high and had a CAC score of around 200 or so. I often wonder if he could've avoided the high CAC score if he had paid more attention to what he was eating.

Feeling Demoralized over our Break Meal policy

3h ago

Our store recently changed our break meal policy from a flat dollar amount to a new system that can fluctuate every day or week based on if we hit CEM or Food cost goals and stuff. Allegedly they took away the old system because people were getting more on their meal than the allowed dollar, but it was eventually found out that the people who were doing that were just being given the extra food by a director as a reward (aka no one was stealing). With this new system the break meal can be up to 20 dollars if we hit the operator-set goals in CEM, Food cost, food safety (0 findings), etc. But we almost never get anything above 5 dollars. The other day, our break meal was 1 dollar and I almost...

Boone County representatives push to expand agriculture education statewide

3h ago

JEFFERSON CITY — House Reps. Adrian Plank and John Martin of Boone County are collaborating on a bipartisan effort to expand agriculture education in elementary and secondary schools. House Bills 2097and 1905, introduced by Martin and Plank respectively, would enable schools across Missouri to incorporate agriculture-based lessons into their classrooms, provided they receive guidance and support from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The program was first tested in select schools before the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching students where their food comes from through gardening, caring for small animals and other hands-on activities. Under the bills, DESE would oversee the...

Former US officials warn of impending 'widespread collapse of American agriculture'.

3h ago

Trump, who knows nothing about agriculture and even less about international trade, causes chaos every time he opens his ignorant mouth and is putting our entire farming industry in imminent danger. A master of nothing but jackassery, his dementia-driven back and forth, up and down, irrational implementation of tariffs on our formerly reliable trading partners is not only driving up domestic prices but is driving our friends to look to new avenues of trade. Folks, we have a rank amateur -- a petulant child -- affecting our future in a grossly negative way because this fool in the Oval Office is looking to make up for all the times he was humiliated in high school. He’s not a tough g...

Reinterpreting Marxian Political Economy

3h ago

Abstract Biological evolution and social evolution appear, at first glance, to belong to different explanatory domains: one governed by natural selection and genetics, the other by history, institutions, and ideology. Yet both processes unfold within the same physical universe and therefore obey the same underlying mathematical and informational principles. This commentary proposes that social evolution follows dynamics structurally analogous to biological evolution: both are driven by energy flows, information compression, selection mechanisms, and game-theoretic interactions between competing agents. By drawing analogies between genes as compressed evolutionary history and culture as com...

Industrial/Sci-Fi Bases/Markers/Scatter

3h ago

Bases, that could also be used as minimalist representative scatter or markers, made from food packaging cardboard, food packaging plastic, packaging tape, some leftover anti-rodent mesh, some plastic I'd stripped from paperclips the metal of which I used in something else, baking soda and a salvaged electronic component. The bases are actual bases, because I had them lying around, but I found I had some 32mm cheap wooden discs from The Range that would have worked, or I could have made 25mm bases from punched cardboard.

Maybe you want to do something special for Valentines’ Day and a private chef would make that possible.

3h ago

Howdy! It’s me, again - back at it with the private chef listing. As many of you have read over the years: I’m Nikki! A chef based out of Philly, close to ten years’ experience and I do a lot of in-home work like cooking classes, meal prep, private dinners, small catering events, yada yada. While I am trained in French technique, I love branching out and finding ways to fulfill whatever food dream you have. You could learn how to make pasta, almost any kind of dumpling (yes, I’m considering even an empanada a dumpling in this case - it’s a food in a wrapper after all!), bread, a cake - bring it on! If you want to learn, I’ll see what we can make happen :) You could also h...

Going to bake lemon meringue pie for the first time-any tips?

3h ago

We're reading The seven year slip in our bookclub, and I'm planning to bring a lemon meringue pie to the meeting. I want to perfect it before, so I'm going to bake it tomorrow. it is my first time baking this particular pie(I'm usually more biscuits, strudel, yeast-based recipes type of person) and second time baking a pie with stuff inside of it(and the first time was a catastrophe, though I insist that it was the quinces' fault), so I've got a bunch of questions: 1)**The blind baking** My first time doing it-I found some informations about it, but there are so many opinions. Should I use paper parchment or aluminium foil? And about the stuff inside-I don&...

Cycling, add plants now or at the end?

Ammonia rose to 1 and then dropped to 0.5, but Nitrite and Nitrate have stayed at 0. If I add plants to the tank now, will they help the cycling process or slow it down? Cons: Since plants consume Ammonia, would adding them now slow the cycling process? Pro: They might introduce more beneficial bacteria to ...

Chicago Squares Player Edition: Joe Thuney

3h ago

Bears lineman Joe Thuney just won the inaugural "Protector of the Year Award" after an amazing season that helped transform the Bears O line into one of hte best in the NFL. Joe's pizza is inspired by one of his favorite foods, Kansas City style BBQ. The pizza starts out with a tangy KC BBQ sauce base and is topped with a combo of shredded mozzerella and sharp cheddar cheeses, homemade smoked brisket burnt ends, BBQ baked beans, and pickled jalapenos. After a quick bake in my it's finished with bread and butter pickles, cole slaw, and even more bbq sauce. This pizza is a winner, just like Joe. You can't go wrong with a BBQ pizza and you cant go wrong with Joe o...
