tofu knot ideas

1h ago

I recently bought a bag of tofu knots from my local Chinese shop because I've been wanting to try them for ages but I realised even in my excel sheet where I have probably about a thousand vegan recipes from the internet compiled I don't have a single recipe with tofu knots, so if you all use tofu knots, how do you use them?

My Dinner Tonight

1h ago

Pork loin, whole chicken leg, and chicken livers. That's my dinner tonight . I've developed a bunch of food intolerances because I've been living in a house with black mold in it for the last 5 years and now meat, eggs, and dairy are is the only things that I can eat without experiencing unbearable debilitating stomach pain that radiates into my back and my hips. Every time I eat any kind of plant within minutes I'm in unbearable pain. I'm hoping it goes away once I'm out of the house because I miss fruit and vegetables but generally I do quite enjoy eating like this.

My brother won't help clean our apartment

1h ago

My brother (26M) and I (22F) moved into one side of a duplex about two years ago. This was the first time the two of us had moved out of our parents' house. Some backstory: My brother is autistic, and it affects his everyday life. He doesn't drive, is picky about what he can eat, and will only work in cashier or grocery store jobs. Right now, he's working at a convenience store. I have been working towards being an EMT and have recently landed a job that has me working in 48-hour increments. So far, the job has been well, and recently, it's been pretty uneventful. Ever since moving out of our parents' house, my brother will not help out around the house unless I as...

M27 U.S. • are you my future friend? ✨

1h ago

Greetings! I’m a 27-year-old guy based in the U.S. I work in a shop that sells books and records, which means I spend a lot of time alphabetizing things and having strong opinions about album covers. When I’m not there, I like making stuff with my hand. I enjoy making poor paintings, writing short poems that mostly stay in notebooks on my shelf, knitting uneven scarves and trying to keep plants alive in my garden (mixed results). I’m into wandering conversations and finding small joys where you don’t expect them, meaning you don’t have to share any of my interests. I expect nothing at all of you except that you put some effort into introductions and conversations, and that you are...

Week 9: Braising - Meatless "Bolognese" (meta: pantry staples)

1h ago

Recently, I've been seeing a lot of recipes for lentils in place of meat in slow-cooking tomato dishes like ragu and Bolognese sauce. Since I have lentils on hand, I put it to the test this weekend. It was not quite like typical Bolognese, but closer than I would have thought. The aromatics, wine, and tomato did a lot of the heavy lifting flavor-wise, and I impulse-added salted butter and real cheese to what was initially a vegan recipe, which lent it some richness. It's far from a weeknight recipe, since it still simmers for hours, but I liked that I had to buy zero things from the store to make it.

Could I make these safe?

1h ago

I bought these at home Depot yesterday and I was wondering if I could use them for a small hydroponics setup. They are 6.5 Quart, small, so I'm aware I can't use this for like long term but rather instead use them for growing seedlings to be bigger before I transplant them outside (peppers/tomatoes, or maybe other plants too). I am worried about chemical/plastic leeching since these are just generic totes and I highly doubt they would be food safe. They do kinda smell, I'm just wondering if cleaning them might do the trick, if there is some sort of liner I could use? Or anything else that doesn't involve just ditching these (I am a very hands on DIY kinda guy but I haven&...

I'm starting to face food insecurity

1h ago

I just wanted to share a situation I'm in, and I'm sure a lot of people are, too. To start, I'm employed and so is my partner. We do not have children and we live in a largely affordable are. As lucky as we are, I'm starting to notice that groceries have become so expensive that the amount and quality of our food has gone down drastically. Since our wages haven't really gone up in the last 5 years, we have the same food budget. More often than not, I'm finding we end up with no food in the house my the end of the pay period. And that's with us shopping at aldi and buying staples, not pre-prepared things. It's also very noticeable when it comes to ...

Merch Musings: Diagnostics and Research, $DIS, Member Question Re: Downtrend Insurance

1h ago

As I’ve continued to look into the Health Care sector for a rotation-based opportunity, the general trend I’ve noted when looking through the laggards is that several of them are in the Diagnostics and Research industry. I’ve already shared that I want to avoid Insurance right now because of regulation and the D&R names that seem to be undervalued right now, I’m afraid, are sort of in the same space. The names that I have been looking into further include $DHR, $WAT, $A, $IDXX, and $IQV. https://preview.redd.it/kupcj1k1apmg1.png?width=1620&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8cbb68d6ce6ac0b9d47d144a87bdb08e8902903 From a technical or a valuation point of view, I...

Recap - Detailed recap of my family trip to Disneyland Wed-Fri - Multipart

1h ago

The advice I received from this group was invaluable so I wanted to do a detailed recap of some of my family trip and hopefully help someone else. 2 adults 1 seven year old. SEE #5 for my best advice regarding lightning lane. Much of the advice below is a culmination of the advice I received from this group, so a lot of it will be repetitive. (((1))) Cortana Inn - It was the cheapest room by a decent margin. We booked direct through their website which seemed to save us even more. HOWEVER, the rate we booked at offered NO REFUND, so be aware before committing. I believe they had options at higher rates where you could cancel. This was a solid option if you are just using the hotel ...

GF Bread Flours

1h ago

I’ve been doing the Bobs Red Mill GF bread mix and loving it, but it is so expensive and the price keeps going up. Also love the part where I can just chuck everything in my bread mixer, push a button, and walk away I’m trying to find a flour or flour blend that I can chuck in there instead without having to get a zillion different types. Anyone have a simple recipe or bread mix they love WITHOUT inulin or cellulose or all the other fillers I just want to eat good bread that is real food and not just filler without it breaking the bank!! Twenty years and we are still here at this point!

What color would you give Wigfrid from Don't Starve/Don't Starve Together?

1h ago

For context, Don't Starve is a survival game where you play a character from the early 20th century trapped in another dimension called the Constant, where they struggle to survive in the wilderness amid monsters and some supernatural elements. Wigfrid, in particular, is an opera singer who faded into obscurity after the massive success of her first role, that of a valkyrie, and [is tricked into making a deal that sends her to the Constant](https://youtu.be/h0zFtNQ0EHs?si=mihF9Z7BLD5z75n3&t=1218) by Maxwell, the mastermind behind the first game's events, who promised her he could make her famous again. In the Constant, she embodies her valkyrie role so much (it's deb...

Great rural area for a forever home?

1h ago

We’re looking to put together a travel list to find our forever home. In about 10-15 years, we’ll be around 50, financially independent, and looking to buy 5 or more acres and a modest home (2-3 bedroom). Our kids will be adolescents/teenagers One of us has lived in the PNW most of their life and the other in the SW and PNW. Also a small amount of time in PA. We’ve lived in most environments the PNW has to offer - rainy, dry, big city, rural. We love the PNW but are wondering if there’s somewhere else that would work too. And because don’t want to take on any debt, including a mortgage, cost is a factor. We’d like something with good access to the outdoors, scenic beauty, and ...

Newly diagnosed 🦄, asymptomatic celiac. Any advice plz

1h ago

Hello new community, I have been issued my celiac card officially 4 days ago and I am le sad. I am one of the unicorns who doesn’t **** their brains out and appear to not be affected by consuming gluten and I am going through a cornucopia of emotions. Anger, frustration, sadness, mourning, pity for myself. Ugh I know I will be fine, but it still ******* *****. I love baking and cooking. My corporate office has told me I should open a bakery I am so good since I bring in various baked goods when I want a creative outlet🥲 my doctor has told me I should think about possibly investing in new cookware to avoid contamination. I am getting a DEXA scan later this week to see how bad it is but...

Thomas Massie: "Spent $8 Trillion in the Middle East" Picturing Roads Groceries and Homes Transformed at Home

1h ago

* U.S. poured $8 trillion into Middle East conflicts over decades. * Matches 100 times yearly federal outlay for roads and bridges. * Redirecting funds could ease costs for housing and food nationwide. WASHINGTON D.C., Mar 02 (TNGB) - Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie sparked debate with his take on America's foreign spending habits. He claimed the nation has dumped a staggering $8 trillion into Middle East entanglements since early 2000s. That cash, he argued, could've revamped crumbling infrastructure right here at home. Massie pointed out this sum equals roughly 100 times what the feds spend annually on roads and bridges. Imagine smoother highways without endless potholes ...
