Possible Malaysia Visit? Need serious help!!!

33m ago

Hello, Need some serious help! Never booked a trip to Asia before. 3 of us, me 41, mother 68 (in decent shape), brother 36. Time Frame: May. Interests: Walking/Hiking (though not enough in shape for Mt. Kinbala), Culture/Festivals, food, wildlife, thrills/adventures, photography, nature/natural wonders, water – swimming/boat rides/snorkeling etc etc, scuba diving (Me rest of family doesn't dive - I have not done it in a while – will take refresher course but I think it’s important for this post). We do not care about partying/bars/nightlife happiness etc etc. In May I have 3 weeks – possibly a bit more time off. I was going to do Singapore+Japan; but clearly I don&#...

unsolicited review on Thistle meal delivery

35m ago

Thought I would post to save somebody else both their money and taste buds! first, I want to say that I really really wanted to like this. And I don’t mind paying premium money for a premium product. I ordered a weeks worth of food that came yesterday and after already sampling at least six of the products or so I could tell you that so far it’s been across between horrid, to tolerable at best. First of all, I ordered two meals with the chicken, one cold harvest stirfry with sesame chicken, and the chicken was beyond rancid. I would love to sit there in front of whoever, prepared this and watch them eat the whole portion of the two dishes. There’s no way they could stomach it down. I...

****'s Kitchen: Florida - Episode 5: Touchdowns, Throwdowns and Teardowns (Part 1)

36m ago

***Previously on Hell’s Kitchen…*** “VA DAPP ORA HUMM AB SEI!” The chefs were tasked with making dishes based on different types of seafood. Alexis and Jake impressed (**Jake:** That’s what really matters!), while Damia (**Ramsay:** I’m not getting that flavor) and Vinnie sank (**Ramsay:** That is wreaking of garlic), but in the end, it was Luke and his first ever oyster dish that won the challenge for the blue team. But at dinner service, Vinnie’s struggles to communicate with Zach combined with Brayden’s inability to communicate at all (**Ramsay:** I know you can hear me, you don’t have headphones on!) made it a miserable night for the blue team. The red team wasn’t ...

Vietnamese Coffee Swirl Brownies

38m ago

I made this at 9pm in the middle of winter, so excuse the poor lighting. Not my best food photography, but worth posting because WOW these are hands down the best brownies I have ever made, which 1) isn’t saying much considering my track record and 2) makes sense given that the recipe calls for a cup of butter. These brownies delivers rich chocolately flavor that’s balanced by the not-so-light cream cheese-condensed milk concoction adorning the top. I ate one…and then five minutes later I went back and used my knife to section off a sliver of brownie. Repeat 4-5x and I am writing to you with a tummy ache. Well worth it. I know what I’m having for breakfast.

17M Desperate for Advice

40m ago

Advice? Hi, this might be kind of long, so bare with me if it is. For a long time, I have wanted to leave the United States to see life in a different way. I understand that this sounds like I’m being overly optimistic and underestimating how challenging moving abroad can be, but given the past election and recent happenings, I’m thinking of leaving and do not exactly know where to start. Why I’m thinking of leaving: \\- Elon’s Nazi salute being brushed off \\- That one top ICE official wearing a borderline Nazi coat and doing the salute multiple times in Minneapolis to taunt people \\- Thousands of detainees at Alligator Alcatraz alone “going missing” (God, I wonder what th...

Coconut dal multiple ways

45m ago

Dinner for my almost 8 months old. Coconut dal with carrots and cauliflower, the end of a baguette with butter and dal smushed on top and a smashed blackberry with yogurt. I used the Solid starts recipe with some minor modifications. She did great, i'm still unsure of the amount of food to serve, but I had to pry the wet soggy bread from her little fingers (she loves bread but I get nervous at the end).

Non-vegan things not so well known?

45m ago

There are always things that seem vegan but aren't, which ones do you know or surprise you the most? I've been vegan for just a some months, but been baking for two years now, and it wasn't until a few months ago that I discovered white/refined sugar is not vegan, many vegans don't usually know about this and use it in a lot of recipes, so I simply blend brown sugar or grind it by hand Also I recently learned that some pens are tested on animals?! What is it even supposed to do?

Should I put dewormer in a new tank before adding inhabitants?

46m ago

While doing a fishless cycle, I dropped a couple algae wafers in my new tank over the course of a week to kickstart the ammonia. Now I’m reading about planaria and detritus worms thriving on uneaten food, and that planaria are harmful to shrimp, which I want to keep eventually. I also read that if I plan to use a dewormer, like No Planaria or Panacur C, that it could harm snails, which I also want to keep. Would it be reasonable to put a dewormer in right before adding shrimp and snails to make sure there isn’t planaria, since I left a bunch of decaying food and plant foliage sit in my tank to get it established? Any advice will be much appreciated!

Veganism and friends

47m ago

in short: I've reached a point where I find it impossible to overlook a friend not being vegan. I need to hear some similar stories and journeys I have been vegan for 13 years I'm now 30 and I will not take on any new friendships if I find they are not vegan or at least vegetarian. but: some of my few most meaningful relationships are with women (childhood/highschool)that despite loving animals and actually helping stray dogs and cats, they eat meat. whenever we're on FaceTime and the subject comes up I simply mention "well do you know how you're being tortured and slaughtered" and I get the "please stop I don't want to think about that it breaks m...

Week 4: Vinegar - Sweet & Sour Country Style Ribs (Meta: Unexpected Dinner Guest)

47m ago

This year’s meta comes with an open door and a very flexible guest list. Each week, a friend selects an unexpected party guest to appear at my table and I imagine how they might review the main offering. My unexpected guest this week is Julia Child. I made a VINEGAR and pineapple based Sweet & Sour Country Style Rib crock pot feast. Julia was such a joyful and encouraging chef, valuing decisiveness in the kitchen and food as generosity. I imagine she may have had the following to say: “Oh, this is just wonderful! The ribs are tender and generous and that sweet and sour balance is bold, but it works. This is the kind of dish that makes people happy at the table. I’d serve it ...

How to fix the Aftershow: Put a Dinner Table in the Jungle and Let 'Em have a Survivor Family Dinner

48m ago

The Survivor 50 Live Reunion has been announced, and of course, I'm super excited. However, the realist in me sees that the Reunion is almost certainly not here to stay. The whole reason the reunion went away is because COVID gave them an excuse to not shell out for it in 41 and 42, and it had no effect on viewership, so it stayed gone. With no "special" status in the 50s, there is no logical reason for them to bring it back as a mainstay. However, the current state of the aftershow is simply untenable. I have three main problems with it: 1. There is no visual "break" that clearly implies it is separate from the game because they film it like it's a tribal cou...

Weatherford , TX – Hard Freeze Coming (14°). Important Steps to Protect Trees & Palms Tonight

51m ago

Hey Weatherford neighbors, We’re looking at a hard freeze tonight around 14°F, which is not normal cold for our area. Many trees and landscape plants here in Granbury and Hood County are not acclimated to temperatures this low, so a little preparation can prevent serious damage. A few important reminders based on ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) and ANSI A300 best practices: Palms (Very Important) If you have palm trees: • Wrap the trunk and crown, not just the base • Use frost cloth, burlap, or breathable fabric (not plastic directly on tissue) • Tie fronds gently upward to protect the growing point • Avoid trapping moisture against the trunk Palms are es...

What do you ACTUALLY need to not struggle for a couple weeks in a new house?

52m ago

I need to move out pretty fast because me and my roommate are NOT getting along and it's affecting my pups health due to them trying to "fix" my "mistakes". (Pups on a strict diet+feeding schedule and they keep giving him absurd amounts of the wrong dog food as well as people food behind my back because they see me prepare his food and think I'm starving him even tho it's the vet recommendation.) I need to move out but I'm gonna be low on money for awhile. What do I ACTUALLY need? I have a place to go I just need to know what I actually need. I can't go based on what I use because I've tried that in the past and ended up needing a lot of stu...
