Lawn Jockeys are traced back to early/mid 1800’s with vary difference in race depending on location (white/black/chinese/etc) as an original purpose of being a horse hitch. Most would have a ring to tie your reins too. As years went on people (mostly stores/bars/food service) would add a lantern and use them as a store front “greeter” much like an open/closed sign. Just wanted to give everyone the good history and not the political/personal opinion based history of this. I’m not attacking either side of the political fence just merely wanted to point out what the lawn jockey was truly for. I’m out of food and money. Can you give me a recipe for cat?22m agoHelp me use 2lbs of slicing turkey23m agothe food pantry gave me 2lbs of sliced turkey. I thought about filling a pan up with left over gravy and cooking the slices like how the banquet ones are. what other recipes do you all have? I landed on a combination that sounds insane on paper but works incredibly well on the palate. I wanted to share the recipe and the logic behind it to see what you all think. The Concept: Essentially a savory, spicy riff on a Vietnamese Egg Coffee or a high-end Bulletproof. The goal was to balance extreme richness (fats) with sharp acidity (vinegar/heat) and aromatics (smoke). The Build: Base: Davidoff Espresso 57 (Dark roast is essential here to stand up to the fats). Fats: 1 tsp Ghee + Two Egg Yolks. The Kick: Red Tabasco Sauce (Acid + Heat). The Bridge: Cinnamon Smoke (cap... Needing some help with Cool Steam Vents!25m agoSo, my partner and I are building this base together. We are in cycle 155 with 13 dupes, no SPOM yet. We are realizing we should have done some things sooner in the game but we wanted to kind of go in blind at first and figure it out ourselves. I realized they were leaking heat so I threw up insulated tiles way back but we are at the point where we need to completely enclose them, and start figuring how to at least use them as a water source for electrolyzers, even if we aren’t ready for steam turbines an all that. We have been pretty lucky with our map, I think, we have these two cool steam very close to our base and a natural gas geyser I need to figure out as well, but we have very lit... It doesn’t matter if it’s simple, the key is to finish it, put it in production, and set real deadlines. That gives you confidence when dealing with clients later. Choose something that could actually help a real business down the line. A chat app or social network might sound fun, but your first projects probably won’t be that. Landing pages, basic e-commerce, service pages… those work. Do them properly: don’t copy templates, understand why each element is where it is. Don’t overuse AI. Doing this teaches you design, UX, SEO, deployment—all the things you’ll use for clients later. I started with a beverage e-commerce that taught me mor... Honest Opinions About Royal Canin29m agoHello everyone, so I came across a tiktok where a creator was giving advice of what food is “best” for your dog. In the comments, a user mentioned “Royal canin is a great brand!!” the creator then replied “No it’s literally the worst 🙌” other users followed by implying “It's a horrible brand. You don't know anything about dog nutrition if you think Royal Canine is a great brand” and “it's a great brand if you want you're dog dead faster”. I was honestly surprised because I feed one of my chihuahuas the Royal Canin Chihuahua kibble. The other two are fed Royal Canin low fat prescription kibble. So, I wanted to ask, what are your honest opinions (... The Realities of Keeping Ferrets29m agoFor anyone coming to this sub because they are thinking of getting a ferret(s), I wish I knew these things before I decided to pick one up so hope it helps. Other experiences to add to the conversation are welcome. # The Good: 1. Ferrets are adorable, inquisitive, silly, rambunctious, and loveable animals. Obviously, that's why people love them. 2. They sleep a lot. You might think its not a good thing, but trust me, its a lot while they are awake. They are typically only awake from about 4 - 6 hours a day, but boy are they awake. This also means it is semi-easy to fit those awake times to your schedule for supervised play. Like keeping them caged and secure while they are asleep and ... HighGuard needs to focus on base building and cut out the fat30m agoI really like HighGuard it feels new you know but it also feels like to much, the game really shines in the base aspect fortifications on walls defending and defusing bombs. The looting aspect or the “open world” riding around and finding loot just feels for lack of a better word stupidly redundant you honestly don’t need it in the game, you don’t need to loot for better gear or ammo there’s literally a in game shop where you can upgrade your gear get new gear or ammo/protection you don’t need to loot for anything it’s honestly pointless, heck when you start the game there’s literally a change your loadout option where you can start the game with whatever guns you want. Looti... what are some personal rules you’ve created to spice up games?37m agoi saw someone on tiktok playing guess who but you can’t ask any of the normal questions about physical appearance, so instead they were asking things like “does your person look like a vegan?” “does your person look like they would share recipes on facebook?” “does your person look like they’ve worked at a starbucks?” that sounded so fun so i will be doing it soon!! but i also wanted to hear other people’s takes on changing up games to hopefully find more ideas!! Four years ago, due to personal trauma, I gained around 30 lbs and became overweight. Over the past four years, I tried many approaches, CICO, IF, OMAD, and even keto, but I couldn’t stick to anything because of depression, anxiety, and my overall life situation. Each time, I’d lose 6–10 lbs and then gain it all back. This January, I hit 175 lbs, officially putting me in the obese category. I never imagined this would happen to me. A small relief is that not all of the weight gain was fat. I did build some muscle, as I continued some form of strength training during my CICO phases. CICO did work for me whe... Hunter x Hunter: Pros and Cons (a detailed critical text, please do not send death threats XD)40m agoBack then, 9 years ago, I watched HXH after watching the 1999 version as a child and falling in love with it. I totally loved it and would recommend it to every being that passes by my side. It is definitely my favorite shonen anime; nothing in that genre can beat it. So, after finishing it again (for the 8th time literally), and as a grown-up adult who developed a stronger critical lens, unlike in my teen or early adult days, I can tell that this anime is full of flaws, and that's exactly what makes it stand out for me personally, and that is exactly why I like it so much. The thing is, I studied Literary Criticism at university, and HXH seems like a good material to criticize and rais... Black dots on echeveria42m agoI watered my plants with Pennington all purpose plant food a couple days ago and noticed this succulent now has black dots all over the leaves. It’s the only one like this. Is it fungus? Sooty mold? Environmental damage? Do I need to do something to treat it? Plant is indoors in a windowsill, but it has been well below freezing outside (Midwest) this week. Rate my idea - I will not promote42m agoRate my idea - I will not promote Hi all - I would love your honest feedback on my business idea. I’m exploring a consumer meal prep concept aimed at time-poor families who want to eat well and cost effectively, but **** cooking from scratch every night. The problem I’m trying to address: classic batch cooking saves time and money, but most people don’t stick with it because eating the same thing repeatedly gets boring. It's also tedious planning what to cook and buying the ingredients. Recipe boxes help with planning, but still require nightly cooking and don’t always save much time. They're also more expensive. The core concept is a batch-cooking model built around f... It’s time to talk about my health isn’t dramatic it's survival mode now42m agoLet’s be real. Almost everyone I know, from coworkers to people in this sub, has quietly said some version of “I need to get my life together” in the past year. Usually followed by “I’m tired all the time,” “my gut is a mess,” or “I can’t focus for more than three minutes.” And that’s not just vibes, it’s real. Health is crumbling quietly across a whole demographic, and we’re told it’s just stress or age or hustle culture. But that’s not the full story. This post isn’t about pushing juice cleanses or some overpriced TikTok supplement. It's a researched deep-dive from books, studies, and expert podcasts into your most neglected asset: your health. What... Mould on lamp44m agoHello, I live in a country that gets VERY DAMP around autumn and winter time (Portugal, Lisbon). And to compound it, I keep a lot of plants in my room (don't let water sit in the pots or catchers, I dry the bottoms, but it contributes). While I usually managed to stay mould free, this winter I seem to have failed the assignment. I'm spending a lot of time out for work, so the windows can only stay open under supervision in the evening or very early morning (before sunrise). The room does get fresh air coming from outside, but it's humid, or at least damper than daytime air would be. I didn't think it would be a huge problem until I found mould at the base of my lamp... ğŸ›¡ï¸ Content Safety: All discussions are automatically filtered for inappropriate content to ensure a safe browsing experience. |
