Looking for Bay Area neighborhood recommendations (UCSF commute, suburban + amenities)

2h ago

**TL;DR:** Looking for suburban, amenity-rich Bay Area neighborhoods with good transit access to UCSF Parnassus, Indian groceries nearby, and Target/Costco-type shopping. Hi all, I’m a PhD student in the Bay Area working at UCSF (Parnassus campus). My partner works in Redmond, WA and will be moving in with me this summer. We’re looking for a **1b1b or 2b1b** and would love suggestions on **which areas/neighborhoods to focus on**. **Our preferences:** 1. A **suburban or quieter area**, ideally with newer or well-maintained apartment complexes (modern appliances, in-unit washer/dryer, gym access, etc.). **Budget:** \~$2.7k–$3.2k/month. 2. We’re both **South Indian and vegetarian**,...

This cookbook made me think about how our great grandparents ate

2h ago

I stumbled across this book from another post recently that completely changed how I think about food. We’re so used to fridges, supermarkets, and next day delivery that I honestly never stopped to think about how people actually ate before all that existed. This book is basically a collection of old recipes that were designed to last months or even years without refrigeration. The same kind of food our great grandparents (and great great grandparents) relied on. What surprised me most wasn’t even the recipes, it was the mindset. Everything was about making food stretch, using what you had, and not relying on systems that could disappear overnight. Reading it made me realize how depend...

Is it really chicken allergy?

2h ago

Hello everyone. I am expecting to soon pick up my almost 5-month British shorthair kitten. Unfortunately I just received information that my kitten developed allergy to chicken which affected his tail. He is on medication and I should be able to take him home in 2 weeks once his tail fur regrows. They excluded fungus and bacteria, but I am still little worried. Is it normal for chicken allergy to affect his tail like this? Is it common with BSH? Do you believe he may have some underlying disease? The breeder said everything is fine and I just need to feed him seafood based food. Any advice and opinion appreciated. Thank you.

[27/M/GERMANY] Looking for friends all around the globe!

2h ago

Hello everyone! I'm a 27 year old, nerdy guy from Germany. I'm currently extremely bored and don't feel good overall so I thought I'm gonna try to find some people I can connect with on a deeper level. Just so you know, time zones aren't really an issue since I am a homebody and chronically online and more of a night owl. I would connsider myself a fast responder when I'm not busy and if I will be busy, I definitly make sure you know I'll get back to you later! I am not a big fan of small talk BUT it is kind of needed to have a little smalltalk here and there, especially in the beginning. I am a pretty open minded person, so your sexuality and gender doesn&...

[30/M]

2h ago

I’m a 30-year-old software engineer currently living in the northeast of Scotland, though I originally come from the Highlands. Growing up surrounded by mountains, lochs, and wide open spaces had a big influence on who I am, and I still feel most at home when I’m outdoors or somewhere a little quieter than city life. By trade, I work in software engineering, which suits both my problem-solving mindset and my curiosity for how things work under the hood. I enjoy learning new technologies, refining my skills, and building things that are both functional and thoughtfully designed. Outside of work, I tend to gravitate toward hobbies that balance creativity, learning, and a bit of adventure....

Deciding how to help a relative with money problems

2h ago

Deciding whether or not to give someone money in an imperfect situation: The problem: I have a Gen-X relative in another city whom I'll be visiting in a couple of months, when I fly out to see my dad. She's on two types of disability for multiple health issues - private and public insurance support, and it's unlikely that she'll return to paid employment. She's a distant relative but we relate to each other like sisters. Through a series of circumstances and life decisions, she's in a big financial mess, close to bankruptcy, but now she needs eyeglasses, which are not covered by the (Canadian) public system and her private coverage is a fraction of what ...

Does our relationship sound unbalanced to you?

2h ago

TLDR: I do more housework but overall I feel like our relationship is balanced and healthy. My partner enjoys our arrangement but sometimes feels guilty or thinks others would judge him harshly for letting me do more. I let him read this before I posted it; I want to get a sense of how other people see it. Let me preface this by saying neither my partner (42M) nor I (42F) are unhappy with the status quo. There's no dispute here. This post arose from a conversation we had in which he speculated that someone else looking at our relationship from the outside might conclude he's a bad partner. My POV is that while there are certainly some people who jump to conclusions based on ge...

New to consistent training need advice on deficit, appetite & recovery

2h ago

Hi, I’m looking for some outside opinions on whether what I’m doing right now is actually sustainable. I’m a 20-year-old woman, 5’8” (173cm), currently around 126–127kg (down from 133kg in October). Based on calculators and my activity level, my estimated maintenance is around 2600 kcal. For the past month With my planned deficit I originally aimed to eat around 1500–1700 kcal with a focus on protein (usually 90–130g) while increasing my activity quite a bit. My training is a mix of swimming, gym sessions with weights, Pilates/yoga, and home workouts, and I’ve found that I need regular movement to feel mentally regulated, which has made exercise something I genuinely enjoy,...

My Entry for the Cutebee Event

2h ago

Good afternoon everyone! TLDR: “Four seasons of Japan” theme even tho my grandma told me she rarely saw dead plants in the summer in Japan like she does here in California! About the theme: This one sure did take up my time! But, it’s dedicated to my 93 year old Grandma who was born in Japan and brought over here during the war as a bride. She’s taught me a lot about the culture thru the years so I thought I’d ask her about her childhood to see if she remembers anything. She mostly talked about the food and local store she’d walk to daily but she also mentioned the wild monkeys that they would feed after dinner. They put their scrap rice/veggies on a tree stump in the yard an...

Week 3 Introduction Thread: Contrasts

2h ago

A dish with intentional contrast has a dynamic range. In other words, each bite is engaging and exciting because big differences can occur between them. Contrast gets elements to push and pull against each other, providing a real sensory experience. Crunchy then creamy. Cold then hot. Spicy then sweet. Red then green. You can add contrast to a dish through [texture](https://www.the-independent.com/life-style/food-and-drink/recipe-dinner-idea-fish-prawn-pasta-b2055338.html), [temperature](https://www.sixsistersstuff.com/recipe/copycat-chilis-molten-lava-cake-recipe/) , flavor ([sweet & savory](https://food52.com/story/28163-how-to-pair-sweet-and-savory-foods)), and [color](https:/...

Riverside Splash Bedroom – a calm, modern look that mixes hotel luxury with real comfort

2h ago

This bedroom concept is a great example of how to do modern without making the room feel cold or empty. The whole space is built around soft neutrals, texture, and a few bold accents. The foundation is the bed. A low-profile platform base with a thick, textured mattress gives the room a grounded, high-end feel. The padded headboard panels behind the bed add depth and make the wall feel designed, not just painted. This is something a lot of bedrooms miss: the wall behind the bed is treated like a feature, not an afterthought. Color-wise, it stays calm: creams, light taupe, soft gray, and warm wood. Then it adds personality through a controlled splash of color. The purple chair and throw, p...

Do I need a paralegal certificate if I wanted to apply for jobs?

2h ago

Hi everyone. I (F, 20) am graduating from undergrad in Fall 2026, majoring in Philosophy (Morality, Politics, and Law) minoring in Justice Studies, and Film and Media Studies (4.x GPA). I had planned to go to law school and was interested (and still am) in the field of intellectual property but after taking a practice LSAT (the score was not the issue) I realized that I want/need work-life balance in order to be happy; I am not sure if a job as an attorney will provide that (even though I’ve read stories of lawyers having such, and spoke to lawyers of having such). There is also the issue of having so much responsibility as well as the commitment— I am a hard worker but I am also one tha...

DBZ Kakarot - Ultimate Character Build guide

2h ago

I'm posting this since I haven't seen a proper guide for character builds for this game, at least not in a structured, coherent manner. We will go over the best super attacks and know-how’s for ALL characters in the game. # This guide currently covers up to DLC 6. Keep the following 3 points in mind: * This guide assumes you will (eventually) unlock the most/all of the skill tree * You do NOT need to power build to clear this game * These are my *opinions*, so don't get all twisted up about it (suggestions/discussions are welcome) Some general knowledge for newcomers: * Having *variety* matters; doubling up on 2 beam attacks is not as useful as having 1 beam and 1 Ao...
