Hi- We are having a hard time deciding what is an appropriate jacket for August and the advice online is all over the place. My instinct is to go with my rain jacket (and REI outdoor rain jacket) and layer that over a fleece when it gets cold. Does that seem sufficient? I contacted the seller and it turns out they are professional liquidators and REI Experience warehouse Beltsville Maryland was selling off all the used gear from the REI Experience program. I’m (29F) interested in bouldering in any of the NYC parks and looking for an existing group or form a new group of outdoor climbing friends! My current Montbell jacket must be about 15 years old now, and just not as fluffy as it once was so I'm looking for an upgrade. This would be for low activity, mostly hiking or standing around in the cold months, so it needs to be pretty thick. I've been a fan of quality down, but not opposed to synthetic. I looked through REI, Outdoor Research, Patagonia, Marmot, Cloudveil, Cotopaxi, Mammut, Montbell, Fjallraven, Rab, TNF, Arcteryx, and Mountain Hardware and best of those options looked to be the Montbell Alpine Down Parka or Marmot Guides Down Hoody.
