Career confusion

3h ago

Hi, I’m a 29M from SEA and I feel stuck with my career. I think I’ve made a series of wrong career decisions, and I’d like advice on how to move forward. Timeline: -Studied Electrical Engineering. -First job: Engineering Development Trainee (11 months, mostly soft skills). -Took a coding bootcamp → became Associate Software Engineer at a startup (almost 3 years). This was my best career moment—stable income, great team, healthy challenges. -Left for another company with double salary → became sole Front-End Engineer. Workload was overwhelming, confidence in coding was low, felt stuck. -Quit and prepared for a career in Japan (via labor work instead of software). Passed exam...

Wall Street hits fresh peaks on rate-cut hopes; oil majors slash jobs, China probes US chips

3h ago

### Economic & Political News **Markets pop while Main Street frets.** • Record-setting U.S. indices rode a dovish Fed narrative after softer CPI and a third straight weak payroll print. • ConocoPhillips, Exxon and Chevron plan up to 25 % workforce cuts as sub-$70 WTI and post-merger overlaps bite. • Beijing opened antitrust investigations into Texas Instruments and other U.S. chipmakers days before high-level trade talks. *Why it matters:* Cheaper money could keep the AI boom humming, but energy layoffs flag a pocket of real-economy pain, and the chip probe is a stark reminder that tech decoupling risk hasn’t gone away. ### Corporate & Stocks News Oracle joined ...

Help!!!

3h ago

It is currently 3 AM, I got home and noticed the handbag I purchased was damaged, so I grabbed the receipt, I’m overlooking it and I noticed it says I have three items, one is the handbag, the other is a bag for groceries (the $5.50 one) and then the third Item I have no idea. I only purchased those two items. I don’t know what to do here. Should I tell them to review the camera and go into the store tomorrow? I don’t understand how the employee rang up three items. I was looking away because I was trying to get my Apple Pay while she was ringing me up.

Am I overreacting partner Lied about smoking a unmotivated /red flags

3h ago

I F/37 recently found out that my partner M/36 has been lying to me about vaping weed. He would vape in his car and then come inside to hold our 3 month-old baby. I feel so hurt—not only because he lied, but because he was caring for the baby while high and exposing him to third-hand residue from his clothes and hands. I don’t know how long this has been going on. I’m worried about what effect this might have on our baby’s health, and I don’t know if I can trust him again. This isn’t the first time I’ve caught him in a lie, and he knows how important honesty is to me in a relationship. I have caught him in a lie before and it really upset me but he asked for a second chance, so...

Best place to find affordable Dockers jerseys?

3h ago

G'day! I'm a tourist from Malaysia who arrived in WA a couple of days ago, and so far I'm loving the place. I'll be in Perth for the next week or so, and in a few days I'll be visiting the Fremantle market with my family Before my trip I read a bit about Perth, WA and its culture, and I've taken a liking to the Fremantle Dockers. On my flight to Perth I even sat next to a nice bloke who happened to be a Dockers fan, and as a result I'd really hope to get myself a Dockers jersey to bring back to Malaysia However I am on a tight budget, and I am aware official AFL merch would be pretty expensive. Therefore I'd like to know if there are any good thrift...

“How fintech is quietly reshaping how we think about money 🚀”

3h ago

Over the last decade, fintech has gone from being a “buzzword” to something that’s touching almost every part of our daily financial lives—payments, investing, lending, banking, and even how we use crypto. What’s fascinating is how fast the landscape keeps evolving: * **Neobanking** is challenging traditional banks with agility, speed, and customer-first design. * **Crypto exchanges & DeFi platforms** are changing how people store and trade value—borderless and 24/7. * **Payment gateways** are powering global commerce, making cross-border transactions smoother than ever. I’ve been diving deep into this space through our work building compliance-ready fintech solution...

Looking for a Tech Cofounder for B2B SaaS (early traction, MVP ready)

3h ago

Hey everyone, I’m building a tool that helps offline retail stores and D2C businesses improve customer retention & engagement. * The working MVP is live **(built with React frontend + Firebase backend)** and we’ve already got good feedback from early users. * I can code myself, so product development is not blocked at this stage. * However, right now **I want to focus on sales, marketing, and fundraising**. I’m now looking for a CTO cofounder who can: 1. Take full ownership of the product/tech roadmap. 2. Be hands-on with development and scaling. 3. Commit full-time once we raise funds (or sooner, if possible). Why a cofounder and not just hiring devs? Because I want so...

Each to their own! music in retail environments

3h ago

Music in retail is a powerful tool used to shape the customer experience, influence their behavior, and reinforce a brand's identity. The music chosen for a store depends on a variety of factors, including the type of retailer, the target demographic, and the desired atmosphere. # Luxury Retail: The Sound of Exclusivity In luxury retail, the goal is to create a refined, unhurried, and exclusive atmosphere. The music is an essential element of this, designed to make customers feel comfortable and to encourage them to take their time browsing. * **Classical and Instrumental:** Music such as classical piano, string quartets, or instrumental jazz is a common choice. It projects an i...

I have a full-time job but I still collect cans and bottles in secret to pay my bills

3h ago

I’ve never said this out loud to anyone in my real life, but I have a steady office job and I still secretly collect cans and bottles for extra cash. On paper, I look fine. I pay my rent on time, I show up to work every day, and I probably seem like I’m doing okay. But underneath all that, I’m drowning in medical debt from a surgery I had two years ago. Even with insurance, I was left with bills so huge that they’ll take me years to pay off. Every month I make the payments, and every month it feels like throwing money into a hole that never fills. A while back, I picked up a couple of bottles during a walk and brought them to the redemption center. I got a little bit of cash, and i...

A key?

Such a bizarre dream.. Invited over to my ex wife's house (because our kids live there) for a get together of some sort. House is strange, never seen a layout like it before. The back porch was pointed out specifically. A double decker patio that is already raised to "floor" level because the house is on a steep incline with stairs from top to bottom of the hill at an odd angle from the house. Then everyone's playing video games while I wander around almost getting lost. I see memories float by as I look around. A time when I went to the store to get groceries and had a hard time finding a specific pie. A time when we all went to some event and helped some rand...

Horror movie with a scene with open scissors simbolizing crosses

4h ago

Blonde protagonist and her husband, their son died before the film, they are moving into a new apartment, in the end the husband gets shot by a black cop woman thinking he was attacking the woman protag, and it's later revealed that the villain was actually some child ghost. There was a scene with open scissors simbolizing crosses. There was also a scene in a groceries store about chosing the right shampoo or some **** like that. Probably 2005-2013. There was a infidelity scene with the husband and some biatch tied to a bed and seducing him. Saw it as a kid with my sister

Are certs still worth it in today’s job market?

4h ago

The answer, in my opinion, is yes (for most people). These days, it’s necessary to fire on all cylinders. Network, degree and portfolio are some. Certs are another. And certs serve as an immediate motivator to actually learn all the content for them, which you can then discuss in interviews and use at work. Just be wary of overdoing it; if you've stacked up an enormous cert collection out of obligation; I’d ask myself if it’s really the highest leverage thing you can do for your career. Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but if someone has a golden jacket and doesn’t loooove collecting certs, they have terribly misallocated their time, money and energy. The game is harder today w...

The strangest (but most fascinating) cookbook I’ve ever owned

4h ago

My son got me this cookbook for Christmas because he knows I’m a bit of a prepper. I don’t have a bunker or anything, but I do keep shelves stocked with canned food and other essentials. Seeing all the hurricanes, floods, and power outages over the past few years have made me a lot more cautious. This isn’t your regular cookbook. Every recipe is designed to last months or even years without refrigeration, and the author includes the backstory behind each dish. It’s part cookbook, part history lesson, like a little window into how people used to survive when grocery stores and fridges didn’t exist. I’ve been cooking my way through it the past few weeks. Some of the recipes are d...

Catch up: Kasha/каша (September 1, 2025), childhood memories

4h ago

tl;dr: would make again :) So I literally mentally started prepping for kasha on August 31, 2025 but I had so much work that...once again I am late and this is a catch up post. I am Chinese so I grew up eating porridge. I know traditionally kasha is made from buckwheat and I had trouble imagining it because I don't think I've ever had buckwheat and couldn't think of the Chinese word for it. The porridges I grew up eating were made with white rice or cornmeal. They were really bland but I think the blandness added to the comfort factor. I can't explain it...sometimes I really just need tasteless mush. In the past decade, we've been experimenting with other grains, a...
