learned valuable new thing - histamine

3h ago

TL;DR: slowcooked protein, broth, etc can raise histamine and it may or may not affect you negatively if you are in a sensitive state. Had a mild head cold coming on so made lrg batch of chix soup/broth. a v simplified version - zero seasoning, only carrot & celery added. As the cold symptoms including lethargy set in, I wasn't prepping sufficient other food so for one or two days relied primarily on the chicken and stock for sustenance. Oranges were really the only other intake besides water and fresh ginger. failed to have carbs. After 3rd serving of the chicken (by 2nd day) my nerves became hyper agitated - felt like caffeine overload or vit B12 overload. limbs an...

Kurdistan Watch: Chicken Wars

3h ago

Chicken Wars: a Rudaw investigative report on harmful substances in Kurdistan Region poultry farms has spiraled into a full-blown media confrontation between the two most powerful outlets in the Barzani orbit: Three days ago, Rudaw aired an investigative program focused on poultry farms. The report revealed that furaltadone, a veterinary drug banned in the United States and other countries for over 40 years, had been found in several livestock farms. The drug, which is linked to DNA damage, cancer, and leaves behind chemical residues (AMOZ) in animal tissue, had reportedly entered the Kurdistan Region with altered packaging and labels. Sulaimani's acting mayor confirmed that t...

Which foods to try eliminating first for suspected allergies?

3h ago

My 10 month old kitten has started to lick away spots of fur on her back legs. It started around December, with just one leg, and now she is starting to do it with the other leg. I have 3 other cats (her brother, and a separate set of brothers), and none of them are experiencing any issues. They are all indoor cats, and they are all spayed/neutered. She does tend to groom a lot more than the others, and grooms a lot over her whole body, but it is just her back legs (and on the lower half of her legs) where her fur is coming out and she has licked some skin raw. I've taken her to the vet, and they do not suspect ringworm or fleas. I haven't seen any sign of fleas on any cats, or a...

Do I have to jerk the chicken myself or is it better to buy the chicken pre-jerked?

3h ago

As a professional home cook, I prefer to do most food preparation myself. However, my jerked chicken never comes out as good as the local Jamaican restaurant's chicken, which means my jerking technique is incorrect. For those of you who have jerked chicken (properly) before, what is the target jerking rate and jerking time for optimal flavor and texture? Also, do I have to use both hands or just one?

How doomed is my toddler 😭

3h ago

My mother in law fed my 5 year old ramen that I meant throw out this morning because it was left out overnight. From around 7pm to maybe 7am? So 12 hours ish. Ughhh when I woke up this morning I noticed it sitting on the counter and put it in the fridge like a dummy noting to myself to throw it out before I left the house a 9:30am but I forgot. Is my 5 year old doomed?! 😭😭😭 it was just the noodles and flavor packet nothing else mixed in. I’m sure she heated it up but I know that doesn’t matter. I got food poisoning as a child from cross contamination with raw chicken so I’m feeling so triggered. I’m beating myself up I know better.

Why is it a stereotype that Black Americans like fried chicken, watermelon, kool aid, and grape soda?

3h ago

As a Hispanic/Latino, I will never understand these stereotypes. Like who first said or invented this ****? I swear I’m not hateful. I’m extremely kind, friendly, and respectful with everyone. I just don’t understand these stereotypes that have been talked about for years. I like both kool aid and grape soda. Besides the orange soda and kool aid blue raspberry flavor, grape soda and the kool aid grape flavor are favorites as well. I like watermelon too, especially homemade natural watermelon juice. One of my favorite fruits besides apples, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and others. But oh my god, I LOVE FRIED CHICKEN. Whether it’s KFC, Popeyes, homemade, or other places. Who d...

18M, 3+ years of unexplained high BP (140+/80) and exercise intolerance. Doctors say it's anxiety but I'm not ...

3h ago

Hey everyone, (this is an ai summary) I'm hoping someone here might have insights or similar experiences. I've been dealing with this for years and feel like I'm not getting clear answers. Background: I'm 18 years old, 167cm tall, 65kg (lean/athletic build). I play football frequently and consider myself fit. This started when I was 17. The Blood Pressure Mystery:  I initially went to a doctor for a lower back injury. During routine tests, they found my BP was consistently high - around 140+/80. This wasn't a one-time thing. Multiple checks, multiple days, same result. They referred me to a cardiologist with 20+ years of experience. Her assessment: \- Tested...

Leroy and Lewis Review

I'm going to use a lot of four letter words, 'here' so buckle up. They got their stars. They need no accolades. It's apparent, but '****'... I want to give them a shout out, because a placard on a wall won't. It was perfect. The staff were working like they were a part of this well oiled machine with courtesy and an apparent love for some craft- maybe witchcraft that slowed down the time. I immediately wanted to 'help' them. I wanted to be there 'with' them. It reminded me of an old familial motto- to be 'kind' is to be kin. We were early for the CFS special, but the front of house checked and back of house gave them a thum...

I (18F) think my best friend (21M) is developing an eating disorder

3h ago

Hi. Just for some context, I have a friend who is like an older brother to me and I love very dearly who I am worried is developing a poor relationship with food. He moved to the UK from Eastern Europe a few years ago and for the sake of this post we will call him Viktor. Viktor is sweet, introverted and sensitive and for the longest time I have known him he is quite insecure about his appearance in particular. Viktor also has a best friend, who we will call David (20M). I also want to say that between the ages of 14-16, I watched a different close friend develop and fight anorexia nervosa and I went to an all girls school so I know what an ED looks like, and I see a lot of patterns. his be...

I will try to make this short. growing up mom divorced dad because he was abusive and did drugs. mom moved into aunts place where things weren’t great either. mama got married again when i was 9-10 years old to a guy with 9 siblings, 2 out of 9 siblings sexually molested me, even tho they were small acts. one of step dad’s cousin once did it too. anyways i had trouble in school since 3-4 class where i would fight randomly, but i was a bright student till grade 7-8. changed school in 8th grade where i was bullied. around that age i got chicken pox scars all over my face too. my confidence went even down. in school in 8th grade, a senior asked me out but he would only make out with me. the...

Thinking of intentionally mildly aggravating my gallbladder for a US. Thoughts?

3h ago

Background: I have symptoms potentially indicative of a progressive partial blockage, progressively lightening stool, increased pain duration during episodes (spasmic 1-3 seconds to mid grade 4/10\~ back pain that was continuous for about 30 mins with a strange ice pain like sensation), increased incidence of grey/white marbling in stool, rapid weight loss despite high caloric intake, painful knotting sensations at what I assume is the base of my gallbladder and the exit to the CBD. All other characteristic symptoms: URQ pain, indigestion, extreme nausea after eating food with a high saturated fat %, popping, gurgling, extreme bloating/gas, reflux, some displacement of the right rib due to...

Cat bladder cancer- Operable?

3h ago

Male 13 yr old cat was diagnosed with bladder cancer (possibly TCC). He's on predisolone 2.5mg eod, cbd eod, and 1 pill dasuquin eod. He eats Dave's restricted diet chicken wet food. My question is, is surgery a good option??? My vet says where it is located could be very tricky to fully remove. August he had a urinary blockage from clots coming off of the tumor. I'm fearful it will happen again as there is constant blood in the pee. Thank you so much for any insight!! Ultrasound observations say: twenty m l of sterile fluid was instilled. There was a heterogeneous solid mass on the left dorsal surface of the fundus. it measured approximately twenty seven x seventeen x ninete...
