Anyone here knows Metrojaya, a local Malaysian chain of department stores?

17d ago

Founded on 31 December 1974, Metrojaya would open its first store at Pertama Complex on September 1976. As time went on, they would become one of the largest department store chains in Malaysia, and they once had stores in BB Plaza (demolished since March 2015), Sinar Kota, Menara Bakti (now Digital Mall which first opened on 9 August 2006), The Curve, Berjaya Times Square and Brem Mall. Many of their stores much later on would either close down or end up downsizing. It seems that tough competition coming from both online shopping and other department store chains such as Aeon and Parkson could had affected Metrojaya's businesses seriously. Metrojaya also owns the brands Cape Cod, Eas...

The Collectors Novel by David Baldacci Free Read online

CHAPTER 1   ROGER SEAGRAVES WALKED OUT of the U.S. Capitol after an interesting meeting that, surprisingly, had had little to do with politics. That evening he sat alone in the living room of his modest suburban home after arriving at an important decision. He had to kill someone, and that someone was a very significant target. Instead of a daunting proposition, Seagraves saw it as a worthy challenge.   The next morning Seagraves drove to his office in northern Virginia. Sitting at his desk in a space that was small and cluttered, and looked exactly the same as other work spaces up and down the corridor, he mentally assembled the critical pieces of his task. Seagraves finally con...

Downtown Raleigh Restaurant Week starts tomorrow! July 24-Aug 3. 50+ Lunch, Dinner, and Drink specials. Support Local!!

66d ago

With the current presidential administration increasing tariffs and cutting off federal funding to local communities and state agencies, I think it's an important time for people to start helping people more. I’m currently boycotting all national food chains/department stores and instead spending money on local restaurants, shops, and activities. Downtown Raleigh has 250+ restaurants, bars, and shops. 85% of downtown restaurants are locally owned and independent. Below is a list of my favorite locally-owned dinner restaurants in the Triangle where you can get an entrée + app/desert/drink for under $30. Places with (*) are places I haven't gone to yet but they were highly recom...

~ Paris, off the tourist path (July 2025) ~

69d ago

NB: repost from the original article of 2023 as Reddit'filters mysteriously decided to remove it today... Salut tout le monde! Long time French Parisian, I wanted to share my own insights in an evolving post to guide people new to the city, staying only for a few days or planning to live here for a while, and interested by *the other side of the postcard*. First, to get a general understanding of the city read [Paris Voyage wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/paris/wiki/index). This post doesn't aim at being a full guide on Paris but a selection of alternative or less touristic things to do, thus no mention of the famous landmarks, museums, parks or iconic residential areas, which ...

Epcot Guide Map From 1993

Hi, I've been Scanning old family photos and such and found this cool map from 1993. I hope you all enjoy this cool piece of vintage Epcot like I have. (There are a few scanning errors in the map I do apologize. I returned the memory books before I caught them.)

CalpisMelonCremeSoda’s Expo Tips

104d ago

I went for two days in the last week of May and hopefully some of this is helpful to you. YMMV: Your Mileage May Vary with any advice you find online. People come to the Expo for different reasons, and with different needs: gift shop, particular counties, coming with only self, small group or big-group-by-committee. Maybe you’ll be solo, or with five kids, or elderly parents. Maybe you’re coming from overseas the night before, or live in Japan. Take what you think is appropriate to YOU and ignore the rest of this post. If you can go more than one day, the first day will help inform your second. ======================= Mental attitude for starters. ======================= ...

Korean Friday

127d ago

Korea had its second impeachment AND removal from office a few months ago and now we have our presidential election. As Koreans residing overseas we can vote at the consulate general this week a few days before the Koreans living in Korea. You know, I’m not much of a Korean spirit kind of a guy, having been influenced by American culture and all but today I felt some sort of a Korean pride at the voting booth as I cast my ballot. Los Angeles has the biggest Koreatown in the world and the consulate general is located there. So today we decided to do some typical Koreatown things we do every time we’re there. We like to have some Korean food, desserts, and shopping for K-Pop goods. Voting...

List of Canadian Companies I have gathered

189d ago

This is here for anyone (and I mean anyone wishing to buy Canadian things) that wishes to buy Canadian good from Canadian companies. Now before I show the companies, there may still be confusion about what the differences between "Product of Canada", "Made in Canada", and "Bottled in Canada". As it can get very confusing, but the best way to know it is that Product of Canada has the most ingredients with 98%, Made in Canada is around 51% for production costs, while Bottled in Canada can depend on being either imported or domestic ingredients. Here is what I have to help you all: 1. Product of Canada: - Definition: This label indicates that the product is entir...

Are you writing this right now? I think so. You've injected yourself into my brain, your soul I mean, you are possessing me, like a ghost does or at least could, if there were such a thing, and in this respect we could say you're a 'ghostwriter', and the economic dimension is valuable here: Yours is a *service*, dutifully performed, and the money I proffer is a *reward* for this service, this *being*-serviced that I enjoy, that I desire, that I promote and which several days ago, on a whim, had wriggled out of my brain and into reality in the form of a phone call to the newspaper, the ad department, where in a small one by two inch space for a week there was written at my...

Shopping Canadian: My highly-specific-to-me list

215d ago

**Edited to add pet supplies and Canadian book presses per recommendations in the comments** If anyone is interested, here's a (long) list of my Shop/Support Canadian life. This is not exhaustive--it's made up of companies/businesses/services I've used or admire. (I also repeatedly plug local libraries because they are amazing and also important to support!). Some other disclaimers/notes appear at the end of the post.  **Media** * [Find a local, indie bookstore](https://www.indiebookstores.ca/bookstores/): If you don't have a great indie bookstore in your town, then buy from a nearby store that will ship to you. Buying books from Amazon and Indigo is simply no good f...

12ish Day Trip Report - Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo

531d ago

I (25M) was going to do this trip back in 2021 (BASc Grad Trip) but ended up getting delayed due to COVID. Finally was able to do it these past few weeks as a MASc Grad Trip instead with a nurse friend of mine (24M). Honestly I had zero complaints for the whole trip, a lot of things fell in place and worked out a lot better than we originally thought they would. In terms of weather, our one day trip to Mt Fuji was clear skies (the only hiccup being icy roads so we could only get as high as the 4th station). For rain, it only ever rained on days we were traveling between cities. This worked out nicely since those were treated more as shopping/exploring days rather than outdoor activities. We...
