Is there a lot more servers that don’t know what this means than I thought? I’m realizing that the term 86, as in, the count is zero, we are out of such and such dish (e.i. “86 Bass”, “hey we’re 86 Chocolate cake”, etc.) might be more New York and LA centric… Or maybe it’s more of a fine dining term that has trickled down to other upscale restaurants but not shifted into chain restaurants, diners, and small independent restaurants in middle America. Curious to hear what you guys think…. And does anyone know the origin of “86”??

For the past few years, I’ve been noticing an outdoor odor here in Chico, CA that I cannot identify. I am familiar with the odors of weed, beer brewing (hops), restaurant food odors, farm animals and all the usual smells that come with city life. What I’m smelling is something kind of sour, like a chemical, and not pleasant. I notice it in the daytime mostly. I live about a 1/2 mile west from 5 Mile. Other people have noticed it too. Hello! I am an American visiting London in March with my husband and another couple. We are all very into food - and overwhelmed by the options in London. my first chapter starts in one location, the kitchen of a restaurant where the MC undergoes two major plot beats. my issue with this, i guess perhaps bc im a very insecure writer is i worry that my scene is boring.
