what to do if I get lost ?

2h ago

I am doing a solo trip across southern China next month, focusing mainly on Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and my biggest anxiety right now is figuring out what to do on the fly. I have my hotels booked and a general idea of the major sights I want to hit, but I usually prefer to leave my afternoons completely open to just wander and see where the day takes me. The issue is that I cannot read Mandarin, and I am worried that wandering around without a strict plan will just lead to me getting lost or eating at mediocre chain restaurants because I cannot decipher the local review apps. Does anyone have advice on how to seamlessly find good local food, interesting hidden streets, or spontaneous cul...

The Serial Killer's Ghostwriter Part 1

2h ago

(I started writing this story for this sub almost a year ago now and it's a full on novel now. I'm still working on the last two chapters, but I wanted to post part of the first chapter and gets some feedback!) I didn’t set out to write the autobiography of a serial killer. I thought I was ghost writing a vanity project for a cringey clout chaser. I told myself it would be easy money and maybe even an amusing character study. I was wrong on both counts. Well…maybe not the money, but there’s only so much blood a dollar bill can soak up. The guilt I feel at every moment of my life, both waking and dreamt, is the price I now pay.   I’m going back through my drafts because...

How honest should you be about risks in business plan?

2h ago

I see founders struggle with this a lot. You are putting together a plan for a startup (let's use food and beverage as an example) and you know there are real, glaring risks staring you in the face. Supply chain issues. Razor-thin margins. The natural instinct is to sweep these under the rug. You worry that putting them on paper is just going to scare investors off. Include them. Investors and lenders already know the risks in your industry. If you don't mention them, it looks like you haven't done your homework or you are trying to hide something. The trick is how you frame it. What you want to do is mention the risk and then immediately explain how you are managing it. ...

[D] Agentic AI: From Tantrums to Trust

2h ago

Agentic AI systems are failing in production in ways that current benchmarks don't capture. They drift out of alignment, lose context across handoffs, barrel through sensitive territory without adjusting, and collapse when coordination breaks down. The failure modes are identifiable. The question is what we build to address them: a governance infrastructure that turns impressive-but-unreliable AI capability into something an organization can trust at scale. # Developmental Scaffolding Child development doesn’t happen in a vacuum. The research is clear that developmental outcomes aren’t just a function of a child’s innate capability. They’re a function of the environment, the ...

Food Mascot fighting game Day 26

2h ago

Lucky the Leprechaun joins the battle Rules: 1. Daily and 1 character per day (best one gets in) 2. Don't have to necessarily be restaurant mascots; just anything related to food (Starbucks, Starkist Tuna, Pepsi, etc). 3. No downvoting or rude comments. 4. One character per brand (we don't need the entire population of McDonald Land flooding the roster). 5. Don't necessarily have to replace a Smash Bros character (unless you really want them to). 6. Have fun!

Everything looked hopeless, but everything is finally getting to together.. but I still worry a lot.

Assalamu Alaykum Maturity hit me pretty late and didn’t get my mind straight before turning 27 around last years ramadan. Since then I have been working hard on strengthening my iman through various islamic courses as well as Tajweed and I feel I have come very far in this short amounth of time. I’m now 28, fasted all days off Ramadan for the first time in years plus did itikaf for the final 10 days. I still frequently attend islamic courses 3 times a week and have a much better idea of what I want with my life. The final boss of my bad habits is to lessen my social media use, stop overthinking so much and to stop seeking comfort in unhealthy food when sad but instead turn to Allah. I...

We could learn from Brazil

2h ago

I am on a séjour for two weeks in my wife's native Brazil and every time I come here the spirit of the people and the country inspires me. Notwithstanding the very real and serious problems facing Brazil (income/wealth inequality, curuption, high crime) the country itself stands fiercely proud, forward-looking, and with a generally sunny disposition. Brazilian national identity is strong, but so too is is it's regional and municipal distinctness. The people are true patriots and genuinely love their state and/or town they hail from. When it comes time to culture; it is around EVERY CORNER. Brazil oozes with a je ne sais quoi that is, well, Brazilian. They don't need to be...

Is no one here concerned about Force majeure?

2h ago

Force majeure is essentially a “not my fault” notice oil companies send when they physically can’t deliver. Middle Eastern suppliers are sending FM notices to clients in SK, JP, and India. Without FM, they’d owe clients the difference between contract price ($70) and spot ($120+) per barrel. With FM, the client pays the difference. Of course some of the upstream companies will declare FM as well like a fertilizer company which says it can’t deliver due to the lack of oil, but these cases get progressively weaker as they aren’t as strong in the definition of “not possible” - because it is possible for the fert company to get oil, just more expensive. If Hormuz stays closed ...

2 month transformation

2h ago

I’ve wanted to build this HUGE collection for years, im talking hundreds of games, hundreds of movies, dozens of books, plus countless old consoles. Because of lent, ive been working mega overtime at my fast food job, so ive been able to purchase 150+ movies in the last 2 months or so. I was just starting to buy a few movies a pay right before lent, but with the ot ive been able to to just buy buy buy, and still live the same quality of life as just a few weeks ago. This next pay should be my last big one, so i gotta slow down soon. That, and im running out of space. I still don’t know how im gonna make space for the 60+ movies that are on the way

Preventive measures for finch guidance

2h ago

Hello everyone. I have been keeping birds for some time and I am posting because I have faced repeated losses in Society Finches and I genuinely want to understand what I have been doing wrong. I will try to keep this as concise as possible. In December 2024 rats climbed to the second floor of my balcony at night and killed one 6-month hand-raised green cockatiel chick, one 1-year-old male cockatiel, and two pairs of Society Finches before I realised what was happening. Since then I keep all birds inside at night permanently. During summer I take cages outside during the day for natural daylight and fresh air and bring them back in at night. In winter they stay inside at all times. For my ...

Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters - Es Con Field - wow!

2h ago

I arrived in Japan on Monday for 3 weeks of Japanese sport with the intent of completing the NPB. I'd done 6 of the 12 stadiums prior to this trip and I'm planning the remaining 6 plus Omiya and SGL for Seibu Lions and a Hanshin Tigers second team game respectively as well as 3 J League games. Tickets secured for all. For context I'm a Brit and lived in Taiwan for a decade and have been a devoted Uni Lions fan, hoping to see Gu Lin Rui Yang and Lin An Ko on this trip. First off, if you want Jingisukan and like beer then go to the brewery. 2 hours all you can eat food and drink for 6100 yen. I liked it there. Anyway, Wednesday I went to Hokkaido Fine Arts Museum and then att...
