In my country, we get cheaper vegetables from "not farmers" but some random dudes with a small pickup truck who would get from local farms and give fresh and cheap vegetables. Sometimes the farmers would directly sell at the special "farmers markets" which are set up by govt But in USA, they cost significantly higher for some reason and no change in quality...in fact organic in whole foods costs cheaper at times...
