What Kind of Event Are You Actually Prepping For?

3h ago

What Kind of Event Are You Actually Prepping For? Genuine question because I think the answer says a lot about how people build their preps and where they prioritize their budget. Some people are prepping for the realistic stuff — job loss, extended power outage, bad storm, medical emergency, supply chain disruption. Honestly the most likely scenarios for most people and the easiest to prep for on a budget. Some people are prepping for the medium tier stuff — economic collapse, prolonged grid down, regional disaster that cuts off supply chains for weeks or months. Requires more depth but still very practical to build toward. And some people are prepping for full societal collapse, EM...

Why don't more homeless people take food from the mobile pick ups section of fast casual restaurants?

3h ago

The orders are just sitting there for seemingly anyone to grab. That's what I would do if I was really hungry and homeless. Most people that work at these locations are probably woke/sympathetic so they're unlikely to care or call the police. Police probably wouldn't even bother to respond since they've basically been on strike since 2020 and don't do anything except play candy crush on their phones in their cars. Seems like an easy way to feed yourself every day as long as you aren't hitting up the same Panera constantly

17 yo cat leg amputation

3h ago

Hi, my 17 year old boy had his front left leg amputated on Friday due to cancer in his bone in that leg. At first when we returned home after the surgery for the first 2 days he was doing well sauntering around (not too much but just to the litter tray and back) and now for the past 2 days he has refused to try move and get up, he is still hungry for food and eats it when we bring it to him and same with water. He only had a wee yesterday because we carried him into his litter box and even then he put up resistance to this and was meowing and hissing - the day before, he only wee’d whilst he was fast asleep next to me on the couch (luckily we had him sleep on blankets) I am taking him to t...

Navigating US Tipping Culture: A pragmatic guide for new immigrants to avoid social friction

3h ago

For individuals relocating to the United States from regions like Asia or Europe where service workers are paid a standard living wage, the American tipping system is arguably the most jarring cultural shock. It is not optional; it is an entrenched social contract. Here is the baseline pragmatic guide for 2026: **Sit-Down Restaurants:** If a server takes your order at a table and brings you food, the absolute minimum standard tip is 18% of the pre-tax bill. 20% is the standard for good service, and 15% indicates poor service. Leaving zero tip is considered highly offensive unless the service was catastrophic. **Delivery (UberEats/DoorDash):** You must tip the driver. The platform heavily su...

Half-Service Dilemma

3h ago

I've recently patronized a sit down restaurant and gave a tip of 18%. I consider the restaurant half-service, where you are greeted at the entrance, led to your seat, and the servers bring out your orders. However, a significant part of the ordering process is self directed, for example I need to scan the QR code to order instead of having a server taking my order and providing recommendations. I even have to take my water glass and water from a common area. I understand this half-service frees the staff up to tend to customers in need. I can't help but think if the restaurant is understaffed on purpose. I initially thought that 18% is fair. I might have over tipped but I don'...

“Babe leo tukule nini?” 😅 I built an app to solve this problem

3h ago

I’ve been working on a small app called PikaNini, and it’s basically built around this exact struggle we all go through almost every day. Instead of arguing or overthinking, the app helps you: Decide what to eat based on your budget (KES) Suggest meals depending on your mood (tired, hungry, lazy, etc.) Let you scan your fridge and get ideas from what you already have Or just find places to eat out nearby So whether ni kupika ama kutoka nje, it helps you decide faster. Still improving it, so I’d really appreciate honest feedback from you guys 🙏 What works? What doesn’t? What should I add? [Due 2026-05-04] english research essay

Hey everyone. I really gotta have this essay due tonight 😭 I pulled an all nigher last night and had to work and I just got home. It was rushed and i know its probably terrible but here it is along with the rubric if anyone wants to help me to get at least a c Housing in hendersonville Hendersonville, North Carolina has seen a significant and sudden increase in population and growth and residents are feeling the pressure of development.  The state is failing to protect residents, and it doesn't appear that this issue is getting any better. People who have lived here their whole lives are pinching pennies to get by, no one should have to live that way in their own town. This shoul...

Escape High-Volume Orthodontic Mills: South Florida’s Private Studio Delivers Board-Certified Precision in 2026

3h ago

**I’ve seen the inside of the assembly line. So have you.** You sit in a packed waiting room listening to drills, rushed assistants, and a schedule running 30 minutes late. The doctor breezes by, glances at your mouth for ten seconds, mutters something, and disappears. You walk out confused, unheard, and completely commoditized—treated like a barcode, not a patient. If that hits home, you’re not alone. We hear this exact story from patients driving up from Miami to Fort Lauderdale. Thousands of dollars, years of treatment, and a smile that still doesn’t feel right. The root cause isn’t you. It’s a volume-driven business model that treats orthodontics like a fast-food drive-thru...

Where to start?

3h ago

Hi, I'm very interested in vegetable gardening, and I've done some reading on it here and there, but I'm still unsure if I know enough to be successful with it. I have read up a little bit about the zone map and using [Gardenate](https://gardenate.com/zones/USA+-+Zone+10a?month=5), I have some idea of what to plant right now. However, it sounds like growing fruits and vegetables is more complex than "put this in the ground and water it". What should I read/look at to get some reliable general tips on gardening? Or any specific advice with attempting to grow some of the foods listed on Gardenate?

Poutine 43 - Wok Box Tokyo beef poutine

3h ago

What a nice surprise. When u/sarcasm-o-rama said to try out the Wok Box’s poutines I almost thought it was a joke. I was planning on posting this in the fast food section but after going to the west side Wok Box it deserves its own number. If you haven’t been, check out the Wok Box on Betts Ave. It’s a legit restaurant. The poutine consisted of: Fries, cheese curds, beef strips, sweet teriyaki “gravy”, Lime aioli, green onions Fries: Nice brown crispy fries. Not salted but they had a really good texture and crunch. They barely got soggy. Cheese curds: a little light on the amount and mostly buried away and hard to notice. They were there and when you found them they were ok. Th...

Mixed Orientation Marriage

3h ago

Salam all, I am a 25 year old Palestinian practicing Muslim male in the USA. I have fought my sexuality for years and have come to terms that I will always have an attraction to other males. This has affected my mental health and how I view life, and I can go on and on about this. I am now approaching the age where marriage is beginning to make sense. My goal is to find a Muslim female (preferably Arab) who shares the same struggle but does want to have a legitimate marriage, being we have the intention of being husband and wife and raising a family, but we both have understanding for each other and our struggles. I would not necessarily define this as a lavender marriage, as that’s just a...

\-Firstly I bought for $278 CAD a single gear Vevor 24" wheel adult tricycle (bad idea) They ****: design makes it so 2 bolts hold the back axle to the entire front of the trike, no natural hook like a wheel fork, no just if they loosen, it separates. Wheel nuts are lock tighted, not king nut, you loosen them once, theyre done. Heavy, its a steel frame. **** spring rear axle brake design, added a ton of friction to the whole system, even when not engaged. Materials: rusty within one year with no salt exposure meaning likely bad material choices, it will destroy itself in a vacuum. ETC. \-Then I bought a 500W front wheel hub motor kit (bad idea) & 3 SLA UPS batteries (ok idea) ...

Can my employer legally withhold tips due to injury?

3h ago

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but hopefully someone can help me out with where else to go if it isn't. This is my second reddit post on any social media ever so be please nice :) I work in fast food. I broke my leg a few months ago and had to take time off work, but I'm just recently getting into being able to do shorter shifts with limited abilities. At my restaurant, there isn't a traditional front of house/back of house split. Everyone helps customers and has specific prep tasks to complete during slow times. At the shift ends, we would split tips between everyone who was clocked in. Things are extra complicated because we just switched to new...

Assisti a 25 minutos de Mandaloriano e Grogu e descrevo aqui! SPOILERS

Hoje tive a chance de assistir a 25 minutos do filme em um evento fechado no IMAX do Rio de Janeiro. Aqui segue a descrição do que foi exibido, que eu acredito que seja exatamente o início do filme. SPOILERS PESADOS, A PARTIR DO PRÓXIMO PARAGRAFO COMEÇA A DESCRIÇÃO!!!!

Why your "Budget" is a liability (and the 7.2% truth the news won't tell you)

3h ago

If you looked at your bank account today and felt like you’re working a 40-hour week just to afford 20 hours of life, you aren't crazy. The PSA just reported that inflation hit **7.2%** today. But here’s the kicker: That’s the *average*. If you drive or commute, your personal inflation is likely closer to **20%** because transport costs alone surged by **21.4%** this month, fueled further by today's **₱2.66/L hike in Diesel**. Most people respond to this by "cutting back on coffee." That’s like trying to stop the Titanic from sinking with a teaspoon. You need a systematic approach to financial triage. ## 1. Identify your "High-Burn" Variables * *...
