Bringing out the big guns ...

Welp, last Wednesday, I had A-fib event No. 5 after my ablation on November 17. So, the general consensus is that this ablation has failed even though there are 17 days left until the end of the three-month blanking period. I was in the hospital until yesterday at roughly 11 a.m. Meds changed now. Flecainide out, Amiodarone in. No more hydrochlorothiazide, and the furosemide I am taking is just for a week. I'm supposed to stop it but keep the furosemide around in case I get foot swelling. So, now it's 200 mg amiodarone, BID, for a week and then QD. Metoprolol, 100 mg, BID, Rivaroxaban, 20 mg, QD, and magnesium taurate, 1,000 mg, BID, in addition. Also, the doctor told me, ...

Best places to visit in Berlin with a toddler in May

3h ago

We are visiting Berlin close to end of May for four days with our 15m old toddler. What I wanted to know was: 1. Best and value for money hotel that gives breakfast and is maybe close to city centre. 2. Things to do around the city or even a bit on outskirts with a child 3. Best way to travel? Is there a travel app you'd recommend. 4. Top restaurants for vegetarian food. 5. Is it realistic that we also want to do a day trip to Munich while keeping Berlin as our base. We'll be travelling through the DB train for the same.

Mar Bella Boqueria hot take

3h ago

Tried Mar Bella last night for the chefs tasting at the counter. Gorgeous place with a buzzy vibe at 6pm on a Saturday, but strangely half empty by 8pm. Food was all well prepared, though many dishes had that Spanish salty taste which became too much for me. This is a very loud restaurant as well between the loud music and crowd and lots of hard surfaces everywhere. We heard almost nothing that our server at the counter said so we didn’t hear the descriptions of the dishes. Also the first tasting menu I’ve had that I could barely make it through, it’s lots of food. Probably my least favorite restaurant from Chef Curiel’s other great spots.

27 days Juice Fast Completed!!

3h ago

This was my first real long juice fast. I usually do 5–7 days, so 27 days was a whole different level. Here are my main takeaways: **Juices I stuck with (kept it very simple):** • Green juice: kale or spinach, cucumber, celery, apples, ginger • Orange juice: oranges, carrots, ginger (sometimes I added beets and made it purple) • Watermelon juice • Vegetable broth: I know this isn’t technically juice-related, but I made vegetable broth whenever I craved something savory. I literally just boiled leftovers from whatever vegetables I was using for juicing and added some salt and pepper. It helped a lot. Days 1–7: Physically the hardest. Brain fog, weakness, cold-like sym...

Was this racism or am I overreacting?

3h ago

My friend and her boyfriend (both white) visited my hometown for a movie and I met them afterwards for dinner. I recommended one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants (I’m Chinese-American, half to be more specific, and half White-American) and everything was going pretty alright. The boyfriend remarked about how much of a hassle traffic was getting there, the weather, etc. I agreed with him on that since I do live in a fairly large city. Then he started saying that the restaurant smelled a certain way and made comments about the tableware, but I brushed them off. I thought “well, I guess he’s not that wrong.” Food comes out and he started asking about the herbs, sauces, etc. and we ...

This pill is truly a miracle for me.

3h ago

I’ve tried every diet under the sun. I’ve done Tenuate, Phentermine, keto, low carb, intermittent fasting, and nothing lasted long term. After having two significant pregnancy losses last year and then receiving the news I couldn’t have more children, I turned to my one comfort- food. Fast food constantly, sugar and desserts daily, huge portions, anything to give me a feeling of escape and euphoria (for lack of a better word). I gained every single pound I lost back, and the cravings were out of control. I finally decided enough was enough and decided to try this pill. Tomorrow will be day 12 and I’m down 4 lbs. I haven’t had any side effects, the only strange thing is my legs ...

IMPERMANENCE One Man’s Journey in Japan Following the Shikoku Eighty-Eight-Temple Pilgrimage **Prologue** Day 0: Departure March 1 *“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man.” —Heraclitus* What if walking could change everything? At 3:00 a.m., my wife Betsy and I lay awake in the dark, hours before my late-afternoon flight. The condo was quiet except for the hum of the refrigerator and the occasional creak of the hardwood floors as the furnace kicked in. Outside, snow rimmed the sidewalk, crusted after a mild February thaw. We didn’t say much. Just held hands. The anticipation was too big for words. After nearly t...

Roundtop - Best off-resort spot for food/beer after skiing

Heading to Roundtop today. I’d like to find a good restaurant away from the hill afterwards for some food and beer. Any recommendations? We’d ultimately be heading south afterwards.

White Smoke Over Warwick

4h ago

**How Jehovah’s Witnesses Built a Two‑Tier Covenant, a Hidden Priesthood, and a Self‑Selecting Magisterium** There is a moment in every hierarchical religion when the curtain slips and the machinery behind the sacred symbols becomes visible. For Roman Catholics, it is the white smoke rising from the Sistine Chapel, signaling that the cardinals have chosen a new pope. For Jehovah’s Witnesses, the organization that insists it has no clergy, no hierarchy, and no human mediators, the equivalent moment happens in a quiet conference room in Warwick, New York. No smoke rises, but the effect is the same: the ruling class has been reshaped, and millions of people will now treat the decisions...

AITAH for wanting to go on a 2 month clinical elective abroad

4h ago

Dear Community, my girlfriend and i have recently have had multiple talks on this and never came to common ground, so here is the scenario: Im a med student in my second to last year and currently contemplating to apply for a 2-month clinical elective in the USA for my final year of uni. Going abroad is something very common in my field in the last two years of studying, as there are many programs offering to go to partnering universities in europe. I have never found an opportunity in these programs fitting for me and therefore never considered doing one of those. My gf and I even looked into it to see if there would be an opportunity to go together, as she is studying a different major, b...

Beluga Lentils with Swiss Chard, Meze Style

4h ago

Once my wife and I changed our diet to primarily plant-based foods, we defaulted into more "meze" style meals, common in this region. Not really on purpose, it was a natural progression. Today's version included small plates of hummus (a staple, we eat this almost daily), avocado, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, sliced peppers, black and green olives, and toasted flax bread. Almost everything for today's lunch was sourced locally, as we live in the Mediterranean. Not shown were the dates for dessert (from Saudi Arabia, not local). The main dish (plated) is a stew with black Beluga lentils, Swiss chard, Dry Anari cheese (from goat), carrots, celery and various s...

AITAH for cheating in my situationship

4h ago

Just to start with this is going to be a long *** post because I want to provide as much context as possible. me (18F) met (30m) online on a fetish website in October and we quickly began hanging out weekly for several hours at a time. He called them “dates“ rather than hangouts which was sweet to me, but at the same time my internal diologue was tripping me up the entire way through the “relationship“. I started growing feelings for him and instead of talking about it I shoved it down and i kept thinking things such as: “why would a full grown man want to be with you? He couldn’t actually see you romantically. you’re too immature and mentally unstable.“ As you can see I wa...

Help a noob build a team?

4h ago

Ok guys so I’m a bit overwhelmed here.. After about 4 years of my friend asking me to play (and has now quit) I found myself having a few drinks on the train watching some videos, and the content creator I was watching had a Raid link and promo code (ultimate deathknight) so I thought hey what the **** I’ll have a look finally. So fast forward 10 days and a couple drunken purchases I currently have everything above (ignore some potential food in there I forgot to vault) and have absolutely fallen in love with this game. Here’s my issue, I work away from home with very **** WiFi for a few weeks at a time and I need to pack my bags again in about 24 hours. I’ve watched so many bu...

First Michelin star dinner in Paris

4h ago

I’m coming to Paris for the first time and I want to have dinner at a Michelin starred restaurant. I’ve never been to one before. I’m looking for a meal with a great experience, not something insanely pretentious in terms of atmosphere or food. Just amazing ingredients, preferably local / modern (not Asian, Italian, etc.). I’m totally fine with complex food and fancy plating, but I think you get what I mean. My partner is also less into shellfish (fish is fine), so preferably not places that are purely seafood-focused. Are there restaurants like this in Paris in the \~200 EUR per person range including wine? Lucas Carton and Nicolas Flamel looked nice for me but I'd love...

Am I in the wrong for feeling sad about my birthday gift?

4h ago

Hi. Fair warning, this isn't a deep story or anything like that. It's probably a little pathetic compared to the others in this subreddit. So, I'm fifteen and my birthday is in a few days. So my parents gave me this huge gift of going to a chocolate hotel (because I like chocolate). Thing is, I have a math exam in 3 days, so I wasn't very excited for this trip at all. Plus, they didn't warn me until the last moment and I get overwhelmed easily. The hotel part was fine, actually! I did have fun. But it felt more like a gift for themselves than for me. Why? Well, I don't like walking. Like at all. It's not something I enjoy. And I don't mean like "...
