I'm starting to realize MIL is toxic but idk how to get my husband to admit it to himself?

1h ago

Some background: husband and I are late 30s and got married end of 2024 (first marriage for both). We met in the current city we live in which is where I grew up. DH grew up a few states aways which is where most his family and friends are (2 hour flight from us). His parents don't fly so I only see them 2-3 times a year - and I'm realizing that is enough! We had very different upbringings - my parents first generation, put themselves through school, saved aggressively to put me through college so i wouldn't have to struggle like they did, and set me up for success without every complaining or wanting anything in return. DH grew up differently - his parents always worked, but...

every time i buy clothes i convince myself im not “allowed” to buy my actual size

# TW for fatphobia/body shaming **both self-directed and mentions of other people shaming women for their weight. i put “TW numbers” but all i say are clothing sizes and weight classes.** **generally i also talk a lot about being fat vs skinny in ways that i think some people’s disordered thoughts can spin into something triggering so please keep in mind i am often referencing thoughts i KNOW are absurd/irrational and you should not take a crazy woman online’s crazy thoughts to heart.** anorexia genuinely makes me delusional. people always get annoyed when someone is “obviously skinny” and calls themself fat but they don’t get that even if the numbers on the scale say i am...

Less able to tolerate activities I don't like since diagnosis? Anyone else?

1h ago

30M, got my ADHD diagnosis a few months back. ASD still pending due to the cost of it where I'm from. Unsure if its even worth it since I very much know I am, and having it be official wouldn't change my reality. Since becoming medicated for my ADHD (PI, Vyvanse 50mg), I've noticed a very sharp increase in the effect ASD has on my daily life. I know it's a "normal" thing when starting meds, and I feel like I mostly handle the changes pretty well. Except one that has a LOT of impact on my current relationship. Me and my GF's hobbies and interests are very different, but seeing each other happy is really what drives us. To that end, I often end up going s...

Rita’s latest owner hopes year-round sales and drive-thru lanes will finally make the Philly-centric chain a national ...

From the article: >Rita’s is on its fourth private-equity owner since the founding Tumolo family sold out in 2005. >... >But Rita’s store count hasn’t changed much since its second sale, in 2011. Now Maple Park Capital Partners, which bought the company last year, is looking for new operators in 40 states for its own growth plan.

The myth of Indian “independence”

1h ago

I wrote this post for r/IndianHistory but it got removed just as it was gaining traction. I guess it was too “alternative“ for them. Maybe it’ll be better posted here The idea India gained independence because Britain no longer had the resources to maintain colonial rule and felt compelled by America after Gandhi led a few peace marches is perhaps the greatest propaganda ever written. It’s taught in every school.  Its true the British Empire was in a state of utter disarray by the end of WW2, but the British did everything possible to maintain colonialism, by transitioning their colonial Empire from extraction style mercantilism to a new form of neocolonialism- AKA the mo...

Icebreakers before shift

1h ago

Anyone else doing these daily icebreakers to build ‘teamwork’ and foster that ‘we’re a family’ atmosphere for their store before each shift? Lately upper management has asked us to do these things daily in a circle like in school and we answer to any of these topics-so far it’s been favorite food, dream vacation spot, and favorite dessert (not food, just dessert). I kinda get where they’re coming from but at the same time I and many others on my team just think these are the cheesiest things ever and if we actually wanted to build more connections we’d do things like strike up a conversation based on mutual interests while working instead of shoehorning these in when we’re...

So growing up I spent about 60% of my time in a major US city and the other 40% out in the absolute sticks. I promised I wouldn’t give away too much. In the rural area there is a family that are just some of the greatest people in the universe. The current owner is Roscoe. Roscoe is probably pushing 80 now. Patriarch of one of the only Black families in the area. Smokes (rollies) like a chimney. Drinks on occasion. And absolutely EVERYONE loves Roscoe. His great great however many greats grandpa bought some land in the area. Started a store. Was successful. Bought some more land to raise cattle. Was successful. Started butchering and cooking cattle and sellling BBQ. Was successful. Bou...

Fladrafinil (CRL-40,941) Quick Guide: The Wakefulness Nootropic

Fladrafinil (CRL-40,941) is a eugeroic (wakefulness-promoting) compound and a prodrug of adrafinil, which itself is a prodrug of modafinil. In simpler terms, when you take fladrafinil, your body converts it into the active compound that promotes wakefulness through histaminergic and orexinergic pathways in the brain. It belongs to the same pharmacological family as modafinil (Provigil) and armodafinil (Nuvigil), which are FDA-approved for narcolepsy and shift work sleep disorder. Fladrafinil has gained popularity in the nootropic community because it provides moda...

Anti cope posting (pic for attention)

1h ago

Many of you in this group seem to enjoy dunking on people on this group who post their investments in firearms and tactical gear for SHTF scenarios. Saying things like “you can’t eat that gun/ammo” etc. phrases like this are super common here. I believe this view stems from a place of real insecurity regarding, well, security in a crisis scenario. Many here seem to assume that preparedness in weapons in gear means a lack of preparedness in food/water/agriculture and other means of survival. This may be the case sometimes, but keep in mind there are more well rounded people out there than many of you imagine. If you have an awesome setup and plan to keep your family fed during a period ...

Costco samples make the shopping experience far worse

1h ago

I **** costco samples. Costco is always busy, and while trying to navigate the store with the oversized cart I am always stopped by families of 6 waiting for 3 potato chips in a cup. Sure the samples are decent but not worth the delays in shopping and overcrowded aisles I have to walk through. The absolute worst is people who crowd around a sample station when there isn’t even any samples available. If you’re really that hungry buy a hot dog for 1.50 or something else cheaply priced at the foot court after you’re done shopping.

AITAH for being upset my sister canceled our plans for a cousin day because she’s going on vacation instead?

1h ago

Hi everyone, first-time poster here! I’ll try to keep this as short as possible while still giving enough context. I (36F) have a 2-year-old son, and my sister (40F) has a 4-year-old son. Growing up, my sister and I weren’t super close it was just typical sibling stuff, but we’ve bonded more as adults, especially since becoming moms. However, we don’t see each other often because of our schedules. I work shift work, and she has a 9-5 job, so our timing doesn’t always align. We mostly see each other at family events or on the occasional playdate. For some quick background, my sister often complains about not having money. A few years ago, she even stole money from our parents (I don...

Trying to make some positive changes...

TLDR: Awful internet addiction most my life, ****** sleep, poor diet, mostly sedentary living, wasting days away. Trying to not beat myself up too much, and just focus on small changes. I'm 38, and as soon as we got computers in the house in the mid 90s with aol I was done for. I've wasted years just browsing on the computer. Once I discovered reddit in 2011, that was it. Every day, like all **** day, youtube and reddit. I go to work, and work fewer, longer shifts so I have more days off and they're just filled by rotting on the computer. At work, during downtime, take one guess. It's hard because where I live, I don't have family out here, or friends I can call up...

2h ago

**I just spent 3 weeks in Japan for less than some people spend on a *week* in Tokyo, and I barely saw a tourist crowd.** Seriously. Okay, deep breath. I just got back last week from my third trip to Japan, but this time I was on a mission: experience authentic Japan without blowing my limited budget *and* without fighting influencer-level crowds at every landmark. I’m talking hostels, 7-Eleven dinners, and local trains. No fancy ryokans, no expensive themed cafes, no JR Pass. What I discovered actually saved me a significant chunk of change and gave me some of the most memorable experiences. --- **The Un-Tourist Itinerary: My Route & Budget Breakdown** My goal was to zig where...

Unesco sites in Iranian city of Isfahan damaged by US-Israel strikes

2h ago

Several Unesco World Heritage sites in Iran, along with other historic landmarks, have been damaged in an intensifying campaign of US-Israeli strikes, threatening some of the nation’s most treasured cultural sites. In the city of Isfahan, local media reported on Monday that the Chehel Sotoun Palace (Forty Columns) and other sites within the 17th-century Naqsh-e-Jahan Square were damaged when a strike hit the provincial governorate building in the Dawlatkhaneh complex, which also dates to the 17th century and lies in the city’s historic centre. Located around a five-hour drive from Tehran, Isfahan is one of the most significant relics of Iranian art and architecture. The Safavid dynasty...
