Welcome to r/mycookedbook - a community for cooks who plan, cook, and repeat

21m ago

Hey everyone, I'm the developer behind [MyCookedBook](https://mycookedbook.com). **How this started** My wife has *hundreds* of recipes scattered across Word docs, printouts, screenshots, and "I swear it's somewhere" folders. Over the years I've watched her phenomenal organization and prep skills and if I've learned anything about how she makes the hard stuff look easy, it was her process. Before any holiday, dinner party, or weekend trip, she picks a set of recipes, combines the ingredients into a single shopping list, scales quantities as needed, and makes checklists. So I built MyCookedBook to support that loop - **plan, cook, repeat** - and it kind of gr...

[7mo Update] 35M, $1.4M. Lessons from ExpatFIRE-ing in Manila, Philippines

Hi r/ExpatFIRE, Wanted to provide another update after 6 months post-FIREing in Manila, some of the lessons learned, regrets, and how I plan to approach the future. Overall, **I'm quite happy I made the decision to expatFIRE**. Plus, my overall mental and physical health has been in top-shape. So please keep it in mind as you read through the reflections! **Quick Stats - Mar 2026** 1. \~$1.4M ...

Trying to balance being a ******* single mom with a very religious family and a difficult coparent

22m ago

I’m in a weird and emotionally complicated place in my life and I guess I’m just looking for perspective or advice from people who have been through something similar. I’m a single mom to a young son and currently in school trying to build a stable future for both of us. I’m working toward becoming financially independent, but right now I still rely on some support from my parents which makes things complicated. The bigger issue is that I’m a *******, and my family is extremely religious. My dad is actually a pastor. Growing up I was always the kid who tried to make the least waves possible because my parents’ relationship was very toxic. I learned early on that keeping the peace...

Goodbye Forever Dyson

23m ago

I have been a loyal Dyson owner for 27 years. The las Dyson I bought was an $1,100 V15. After 2.5 years it stopped working. I went to the Vancouver Dyson store and they said the only way to fix this would be to get a new one. They gave me a number to call to see if I could get a 5% discount on a new one. I found this upsetting. Luckily I purchased this Dyson from Costco. I took the vacuum in and they gave me a full refund! Great. I then went to buy a new Dyson with the comfort of Costco giving such good warranty coverage. The issue is that Costco no longer carried the V15. They only had an entry level cordless Dyson. The Dyson store had the V15 but I was not going to take the risk with the...

Controlling husband

23m ago

Title: My husband (30M) says he loves me deeply but also says he doesn’t like me at all. He also controls many parts of my life and I don’t know if this relationship is normal. I’m (25F) writing here because I’m very confused about my marriage and I need some outside perspective. My husband often tells me that he loves me very deeply, but at the same time he says he doesn’t like me even a little bit. When I ask him about it, he says love and liking are different things and that he loves me a lot but doesn’t like who I am as a person. He also has a very unusual view of love. He says he has been “in love with his wife for 13 years.” What he means is that long before he met m...

Housing issues in BC health authorities.

23m ago

I've tried to keep this short and to the point without overloading people with the details, but the whole purpose of my post is to find out if other people here in BC have suffered any similar serious housing issues as a result of the people responsible for their contractually defined housing agreements. So, my partner recently started a new position within the local health authority here in Northern BC. Once she'd moved to the area to begin her job, she soon endured a toxic **** as a result of the woman in charge of the health authorities housing policy. Her abusive and negligent attitude combined with her genuine contemp for the hospital where my partner worked was not only co...

First reactions to Warner Bros-Paramount deal: “Mega-mergers raise red flags”, “An antitrust disaster”

24m ago

I’m surprised no one posted this five days ago. Anyway, here's an interesting part regarding EU and UK approval: "M&A expert Kim Chua, a partner at OC&C Strategy Consultants, said: “In Europe, a Paramount acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery would face detailed competition scrutiny, particularly around the combined group’s bargaining power over cinemas, broadcasters and streaming rivals. “It would almost certainly go to an in-depth review in Brussels, but the streaming overlap is less acute than in a hypothetical Netflix–Warner deal, because neither Paramount+ nor Max is the market leader in most European countries and arguably the combination provides ...

30M - Need guidance on protecting myself legally if I reconcile with my wife (India)

25m ago

I’m a 30M from Hyderabad and got married recently. I’m looking for some practical guidance on how to handle my situation responsibly and protect myself legally if I attempt reconciliation. After our marriage, things were initially normal and we were on good terms. However, problems started arising due to interference and misunderstandings involving other people. During that period, my wife threatened or emotionally pressured me with suicide a couple of times during arguments. This scared me a lot because I didn’t want anything tragic to happen or for things to escalate. Because of that fear, after about one month of marriage, I requested that she go stay with her parents for some tim...

If you buy this, you're literally supporting slave labor

26m ago

We all know about the buyout and Saudi Arabia at this point, but this isnt what the post is about. Buying from the sims 4 store is LITERALLY supporting slave labor. Let me explain. From what some creators have been saying (not gonna point fingers), the way EA treated them was abhorrent. They basically drew them in with the promises of riches and went like "just do what you normally do, but this time make more money!". Like, they made it sound enthicing by preying on the poor... and then they rode them like labour mules, requesting perfection or no dice. They did *not* get paid for this. This is work that was done for **free**. Then EA was satisfied with the result, so they decide...

(and a brief mention of Moscow) Phil Ruffin is a businessman, born in Texas of Lebanese descent. In 1972 he pioneered self-serve gasoline in Kansas, creating a chain of 60 convenience stores (later leased to Total), using cash from this enterprise to build a Marriott hotel in Wichita in 1987. He bought the Frontier Hotel and Casino (originally jnown as Pair o' Dice) for $167million in 1998 after it had been mired in the longest running strike in American history, due to workers seeking better wages and benefits ('Underpaid, underpaid, underpaid, underpaid) Ruffin, in a joint venture with his good friend Donald Trump, started building Trump International Hotel and Tower on thr ...

Why the 70% Off Altitude Sale Is the Best Time to Upgrade Your Gear

28m ago

I was browsing earlier and came across this sale on [**https://altitude.ph/**](https://altitude.ph/) and some items are discounted up to **70% off**, which is honestly a pretty big deal if you're into outdoor or tech gear. For those who don’t know, Altitude is a lifestyle and outdoor gear store that carries products for adventure, photography, travel, and everyday gear like power stations, camera equipment, cases, and accessories. What I like about sales like this is that it’s actually a good opportunity to **upgrade gear you already use**, instead of buying random stuff. A lot of their items are things people use regularly for travel, content creation, or outdoor trips. Some exa...

Should I leave?

29m ago

I had experience successfully selling Subarus at a high volume store. I took a leave to care for my dying mother and lost my job. I finally found another role at a great Cadillac store that also sells Buicks and GMCs. They treat us well and pay us hourly. The problem is that we don’t get lot traffic and I haven’t sold anything in almost 3 weeks. Most of my coworkers are struggling as well and many of them are veterans. The ups at Cadillac are horrendous and so are the leads. Escalade inventory is non existent and we can’t move EVs without the tax credits on them. Repeat customers are going with other brands. I can’t even pay my car payment, that’s how bad it is. This is the best de...

Leaving my job because I'm just burnt out of crappy co-workers. (long rant, sorry)

30m ago

I've worked with mentally disabled clients for over a decade and truly love the job—it's rewarding, low-stress in many ways. Picnics, zoo trips, bowling, movie days, nerf battles, laser tag, and all being paid to do it on the company dollar. Most people would kill for perks like that. The problem isn't the clients; it's my co-workers. I've been picking up doubles every Sunday for 8 months, always saying yes to extra shifts; even did a long stint of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift schedules in the same week when one of the night shift ladies broke a leg. When I'm there, incidents are rare. Clients are safe, happy, and well-cared-for. On weekends I'm off, it'...

Echos of the void Vicky’s house

30m ago

With Titus and Kelly retiring for the night, the villa fell into a gentle hush. The ocean outside whispered against the shore, a steady rhythm that matched the slow beat of their hearts as they moved through the quiet house. Kelly paused in the bathroom doorway, glancing back at Titus with a small, tired smile. “I’m going to shower,” she said softly. Titus leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching her with that easy, affectionate look that always made her stomach flutter. “Take your time. I’ll be here.” She stepped inside, the door sliding half-closed behind her. A few moments later the water hissed on, steam curling out into the hallway like smoke from a distant fi...
