If someone offered you $5 and you said "sure, but I'll spend $100 at your store over the next 10 years" people would think you are insane. Yet this is essentially what one of the most hyped AI companies in the world just agreed to. Anthropic is reportedly worth $800B, has Google also pumping money into it, and is considered OpenAI's biggest rival. But it still signed a deal where it gives back $20 for every $1 it receives. Maybe the chips and compute are worth it. Maybe there iis no other way to get 5 gigawatts of power to train a frontier AI model.
