Curious about a "well known" battery scammer

13h ago

I was recently let go from this **** company because of a issue with a scammer. I would like to prefice by saying I did not know he was a scammer nor was I aware of the tip policy, although that it is on me. A man who I'm not sure I should name is apparently an infamous multi store scammer. My encounters with him went something like this: He would come into the store with a battery, sometimes new, sometimes used. He would come up to the counter and for some reason requested me to assist in his returns. He had warranties for every battery he brought, however sometimes he wanted to do a force return or avoid the warranty, in those cases I would contact my SM and ask for approval before ...

I am having starter motor, cranking issues

16h ago

I have a 2015 GMC terrain Denali. The car hasn't started for a few years because it had a timing chain issue, I fixed it and the car started right up, however, I didn't have a lot of coolant in the car, so I turned it off immediately. I regret not letting it run for a few minutes because the car didn't start back up again. It would crank but not start. I figured I had ruined the battery because it was used and old, so I then replaced the battery with a brand new one. From this point forward, the car never cranked or even clicked, just silence. I then got a remanufactured starter from Advance auto online store, it was over 250 dollars so I thought this should be okay. I install...

Update on non-returnable code scanner.

1d ago

Went up the chain with corporate and the BBB. They have stuck to their guns and consider code scanners as "Electrical parts" which a code scanner is neither linguistically or technically an electrical part, it is a diagnostic tool, just like a battery tester or a compression tester would be a diagnostic tool. They can't tell me why code scanners are not on their "big list" of non-returnable items, which only shows electrical car parts, specific parts for specific models of cars such as wiper switches, body control modules, connectors, oxygen sensors, etc. For shits and giggles, I went both in-store AND online to Oriley's and Autozone and spoke with management...

Replace Engine Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid Engine Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid jw jetta 2009

1d ago

Is it okay to get this part from a store like autozone, there’s one nearby and they have options(higher prices and lower) I planned to get one on the higher range but I don’t want to waste money. Has anyone bought one from a store to use and had any bad experiences?

Best mid tier brake pads

3d ago

Im getting ready to redo my brakes so whats some decent pads for delivery work. I'm looking for lower mid tier not really el cheapos but a couple of notches up. They don't have to come from oreillys/autozone either I have no probs ordering them bc I needed a new high pressure fuel pump and from the store it was 600+ tax and everything. Same part number ordered was 140. I also drive a 2016 f150 if that helps as well.

Considering leaving.

4d ago

I’ve had enough of the abuse from my store manager and his best friend that doesn’t do anything but gets paid $19.15 an hour to refuse to drive, refuse to open the safe or have a store key, refuse to receive transfers. She basically refuses to do any PSM tasks even though she is a PSM. I’m done with it. Upper management told me “you just worry about you don’t worry about your coworkers and what they’re doing” even though what they’re doing is costing me on dwell time and other things. So O’Reilly’s offered me a job minimum 19 an hour allegedly. Because I have 8+ years experience at autozone. So, if I leave what happens to my sick/vacation time? Can I cash it out?

Just Did The Valve Covers. This is What I Learned

4d ago

I gave a 2019 Ford Flex Limited 3.5L Ecoboost. One of the round gaskets that keeps the oil out of the spark plug turrets failed. The entire turret filled with oil and was leaking down the front of the block. I bought a Fel-Pro gasket kit from Autozone for $67+tax. I figure Fel-Pro is American parts it should be fine. I returned to my shop and got to work. Everything was staring out fine. The valve covers were coming off easily with some force and finesse. I got the plastic stock covers off and started to remove the gaskets. Immediately when I tried to get the spark plug turret, gaskets off, I broke the valve cover. It was at that point I decided that I needed aluminum valve covers versus th...

Parts recommendations

5d ago

2016 Jeep Patriot 4WD I want to do Hubs w/ bearings all around and brakes on my wife’s jeep. What do you guys recommend for online parts stores, other than autozone, orielys. Like 1A Auto, RockAuto, PartsGeek, A premium? Thank you!

I have 170,000 miles on my Honda Accord and my original alternator is still on it. Should I go ahead and order a replace...

2015 Honda accord and still have my original alternator. They are so expensive at Oreillys, autozone, Napa, and advanced auto. Like $500-$800. Instead of waiting for it to go bad on me should I order the $200 Bosch one off rockauto now (shipping takes 3-5 days) if I don’t then I’m stuck going and paying for that at a parts store. The Bosch one also comes with a 2 year warranty and roadside assistance if anything goes wrong with it. Probably only have the car for 2 more years at most

O2 sensor purchase

9d ago

Vehicle has 2. All stores including the hub only stock one each. The $30 Duratech one. Is this a ploy to try and force the convenience sale of the $70 Bosch which they conveniently stock 2 of? https://www.autozone.com/engine-management/oxygen-sensor/p/duralast-oxygen-sensor-dl861-0412/1329635_0_0?searchText=o2+sensor And who is the likely manufacturer of the Duratech one?

2021 Crosstrek sport weird start

9d ago

Hi all. I have a 2021 Crosstrek sport 2.5 with 55k miles, which I love. Yesterday after making a quick trip into the store my Crosstrek had a weird start, sounded delayed, like no cranking (see video) but started up. I thought it was weird, but didn’t think too much of it. Then it did it twice more in the same day after other short time being parked. The car was warmed up all three times having been drive off and on all day and for 15ish minutes before each incident. I had the battery starter and alternator tested at autozone and it they all passed, but I know Subaru has some problems with CCA on batteries. The battery is also original for Dec 2020, but had no issue til today. Posting to ...

2014 ford fusion Rack&Pinion/steering rack ?

10d ago

So my 14’ 2.0L fusion has 107k miles on it, steering rack went out back in June25’. I haven’t drove the car since. The prices for these racks are crazy. Anyways. I’m finally ready to purchase a new rack. I don’t drive much, maybe 2000-3000miles a year. I see this rack from Oreilys; Autozone has a discount for it to knock it down $300 less than Oreilys. Ford motor dealer quoted me nearly $2300+ parts without labor. This car isn’t even worth the $2300 as I could sell this car for what the ford dealer wants out of me.. anyways, beats having a car payment of over $500/month when I decide to fix this car. I have a mechanic in my family who will help me out replacing it for $400 with...

Stay far away from autozone

11d ago

Autozone is by far the worst company I have ever worked for, seems like everyone in the company failed upwards. Store managers that sit on their asses all day, district manager that want to break state law and force employees to buy their own uniforms, or refusing to let me schedule rest breaks as defined by state law... I warned the district manager multiple times if nothing changes I will accept a job offer from the competition for a pay raise and promotion. It still ***** my mind that your not allowed to sit, they don't give you a coin counter, have you redo the same ******* planogram 2-4 times a week, expect you to wear ****** badges and do a walmart cheer... I guess what else w...

Suspension Rebuild tips/kit?

13d ago

My 95 RW 2.4L extended-cab DLX needs a complete suspension rebuild. My shocks, leafspring bushings, wheel bearings, and ball bearings are all going out. It's 30 years old, and I'm kinda a noob when it comes to cars. Found Bilstein shocks from AutoZone, but they were $360 for all 4 ([rear](https://www.autozone.com/suspension-steering-tire-and-wheel/shock-strut/p/bilstein-b6-4600-shock-absorber-24188203/84499_0_0), [front](http://www.autozone.com/suspension-steering-tire-and-wheel/shock-strut/p/bilstein-suspension-shock-absorber-24184830/84703_0_0)) Looked at [Old Man Emu](https://store.arbusa.com/suspension/), but...

Dear customers!

15d ago

Wanted to make a message to customers to explain my point of view. I run a low volume store in Houston and I wanted to address returns. There are many high volume stores basically surrounding us and people come to my store to do returns alot which keeps us low volume. When you return a part, AutoZone as a company gets credit from the manufacturer and does not take a hit at all, but the autozoners in said store do. We have to cut hours and we already get low pay because we are low volume. So please. If you buy a part at 1234 Charlie road, don’t go return it to 1234 Robinson road. Go back to that same store, because now the high volume store got a $100 sale and the low volume takes a $100 hi...

Chillest Store Ever ?

15d ago

I've been working at AutoZone for 9 months. Hired as a PSM, and trained under a 10yr store manager. My store is quite different than everything I read and hear online as well as other stores in my area... We take returns. On anything. My boss is not concerned with losing a few dollars. We handle our customers. Our store literally doesn't even have cameras and our shrink is 0.5% #1 DIY sales program in the region for 9 months straight. Maybe you guys should loosen up a bit? We ******* crush it at our store

Not another oil thread

15d ago

Hello my fellow FiST’rs- I ended up at an auto parts store helping my buddy wrench over the weekend when I figured I should go ahead and buy oil bc I’m about due for my 2nd change. I whipped up the ol’ google to double check proper weight and I got ****** down a rabbit hole on oil specs- From what I can see general consensus is 1.6 eco boost calls for 5w-30 updated from the 5w-20 it shipped with (us)- my real question was for the oil spec and if US based folks have trouble finding it in store shelves? My local autozone and orielys didn’t have a spec “WSS-M2C913-C” (which has been updated to now WSS-M2C913-D) and when I showed the guy behind the counter the oil spec he didn’t...
